Dear Dave, Thanks for answering! After much struggling, I realized that WINNT\SYSTEM32 was not in my path, so bjam was failing to find cmd.exe. Fixing my path fixed everything. Thanks again, Jon On Sep 10, 2004, at 4:56 AM, David Abrahams wrote:

I'm failing to build either bjam or (eventually, I got the binary) the boost library. I'm using Win 2K, VC++ 6, boost 1.31.0. In setting environment variables, I set MSVC,
How did you set it, and why would it matter? Boost.Build doesn't use a variable by that name.
but couldn't figure out VISUALC
Details, please. You couldn't figure out VISUALC, or Boost.Build couldn't? What were the messages you saw that indicated that?
(since I don't have a VC++ directory). When I try to build, I get:
D:\boost_1_31_0>bjam "-sTOOLS=msvc" install
[ Fails to find PYTHON ]
...patience... ...found 7592 targets... ...updating 3079 targets... MkDir1 C:\Boost spawn: No such file or directory
Which bjam binary did you get (or under which command shell did you build it) and which command shell are you using to invoke it?
