Sorry, it's a makefile variable; my internal parser isn't working too well today. Ignore the "LIBS="
or the configure script "--with-libraries=foo_library" option would be helpful in working around the compile errors with gcc 4.x.
Doesn't the table at http://www.boost.org/more/getting_started.html#step5 contain a pointer to the --with-foo_library option?
Yep, that's good. I found the option by reading the configure script.
