socket library

Hi all, Does anyone know what the state of the socket library is? I remember it getting started sometime last year, and there is an implementation in the files section on Yahoo, but that is far from complete and is all I can find. Has it gone off the boil or is someone still looking after it? Many thanks, [)o IhIL..
