Well I tried, but I got a rare unrelated compile error in the middle of an STL header. Mostly they are then related to out of memory conditions or crashes within the compiler.

Usually, you can use some option to increase PCH memory-usage limit. In Eg., in VS2005 you can compile with -Zm111 or even -Zm122 option.
