Beginner needs help with Boost thread class

Hello, I am completely new to Boost and I would like to know in which method to put the business logic (work) of my thread class (which inherits from boost::thread). When you do that in Java you implement Runnable and put the business logic in the run() method. How do I do that with boost? Thanks in advance, Julien.

Hi everybody, I'm new to BGL and very frustrated beacause I can't make a proper use of dynamic_properties. I'm just trying to read a graphviz dot file with read_graphviz and I found a sample which make use of dynamic_properties in order to make a proper call to read_grahviz. Here is the slightly modified sample: typedef boost::adjacency_list < boost::listS, boost::vecS, boost::undirectedS > Graph; typedef boost::graph_traits<Graph>::vertex_descriptor Vertex; typedef boost::graph_traits<Graph>::vertex_iterator Iterator; int main(int argc, char **argv) { Graph g; std::ifstream input(argv[1]); boost::dynamic_properties dp; dp.property("node_id", boost::get(boost::vertex_name, g)); dp.property("weight", boost::get(boost::edge_weight, g)); boost::read_graphviz(input, g, dp, "id"); return 0; } When I try to compile it, g++ returns lots of cryptic template related error messages but I suspect the most relevant part is : no match for 'operator<<' in 'out << boost::get...' I must be doing something wrong, but I can't get it; expect you'll point me out my mistake so that I could re-focus on the algorithms instead of these annoying technical details.

[review result] mini-review of update to Boost.Assign

Dear all, Here follows the result of the result of Erwann Rogard's update to Boost.Assign: **************************** The update is not accepted **************************** This is not because the new functioanlity/interface was not seen as an improvement, but because Erwann has chosen to implement a full replacement (or Assign v2) based on the feedback he got during the review. The feedback meant that the new "update" would be much larger than what was present in the mini-review, and the new library should therefore be subject of its own full review. I would like to thank Erwann for his hard work so far, and hope he submits a Boost.Assign v2 in the near future. Tokenizing UTF-8

I was looking around to see if Boost has support for tokenizing UTF-8 strings. I don't see any mention of UTF-8 or Unicode in the Boost.Tokenizer documentation. If not Boost.Tokenizer . any other ideas ? I am also looking into ICU. Thanks. - Roshan

[fusion][mpl] Generating a fusion sequence type from an MPL sequence

Hi all, I am unexpectedly stuck looking for some functionality which I assumed would be present. Given an MPL sequence, I want to generate the type of a corresponding fusion sequence, which I can then use to store things: mpl::vector<int, string> mpl_vec; typedef some_metafunction<mpl_vec>::type fusion_vec; // equivalent to fusion::vector<int, string> fusion_vec vec(5, "foo"); Does some_metafunction exist? I'm not sure if I'm just not seeing it (or perhaps thinking wrongly about the problem), or if it really is not present. Hi fellow users, I build boost 1.43 on windows, using mingw with gcc 4.4.0: Using built-in specs. How to improve property_tree performance

Hi, I have a fairly easy record structure which I am writing to xml using property_tree. I am trying to figure out how to do it better, since the current time spend building the tree is too high. I do the following : wiptree pt; wiptree &tvars = pt.add(L"some.recordname",L""); for( int i = 0; i < somenumber /*say 60K*/; ++i ) { wiptree &curtree = tvars.add(L"someitem",L""); curtree.add(L"<xmlattr>.name",L"some_attribute"); ... } To me this seems reasonable. Is there a faster way to do this ? Since I just want to write it out and it's quite simple, I could avoid using property_tree and write the xml file manually. But since I read it in later with property_tree, then for maintainability I would like to read and write with the same method. Thanks Bo

I eventually managed to get everything to work nicely Just one essential bit that seems to be missing in the docuemntation...at least I missed it :-) **** Use the ***DLL version*** of boost serialization (#define BOOST_ALL_DYN_LINK or BOOST_SERIALIZATION_DYN_LINK in your build) Otherwise, afaict, every DLL gets a separate static extended type-info singleton container. **** And, to anwer my own question, the documentation does say explicitly that non-rtti and rtti implementations of extended type-info can coexist. Hopefully, this will help other newbies!
