boost::filesystem::path corruption

Hello all, I've recently started using some of the Boost libraries, one of which being boost::filesystem. I have however encountered a problem while using the library, which as far as I can tell is a bug. I'm not sure if anyone is aware of this problem, or if is not an issue with the library itself but rather with my configuration - in either case a description of the problem follows: Whenever I instantiate a boost::filesystem::path object and try to print out a text representation of the path using a method such as .string(), the path itself is printed out, however it looks as though the string is not terminated properly as a whole bunch of trailing garbage appears after the path. The following sample program produces the problem for me: #include <iostream> #include <boost/filesystem/path.hpp> int main(int c, char** v) { boost::filesystem::path testpath("test/path"); std::cout << testpath.native_file_string() << std::endl; return 0; } When I run this code I get output similar to the following: test/pathpÿÿÿÿtest/ÿÿÿÿdataÿÿÿÿpath... etc (a whole bunch of other random stuff like days of the week & month, as well as garbage character strings) Can anyone shed some light on this for me? limiting searches in BGL

Hello, I am just starting to use the BGL, and have been beating my head upon a problem. I am needing to find an irregularly bounded set of points in three dimensional space. The points are within a convex hull and the graph edges are edges in a delaunay triangulation. I want to start at a node known to be on the hull, and crawl through the inside with either depth first or breadth first search. If you are on the hull, you would not allow the search to continue outside the hull. I thought of doing this with a simple visitor, and color the unwanted vertices black. However, from inside the scope of the visitor, I do not believe I can have access to the colors. Several ugly hacks come to mind, but I would like to know if there is an easy way of doing this first? -Jason Crosswhite

That's a functor which returns true if the search should not continue after a certain vertex. - Volodya

dynamic boost::array and performance/size of STL vector

Dear list, I frequently need to use arrays with undetermined (at compile time) but constant (user specify size) size. I.e., I need something like boost::array<int> arr(5); without arr.insert etc, rather than boost::array<int,5> arr; which only accept constant array length. Of course I can use 'vector<int> arr(5)' in this case but I am worry about the performance and size overhead, specifically: 1. How is size() implemented in vector<>? I am concerned with this function since icc (intel c++ compiler) can not vectorize 'for(i=0;i<arr.size();i++)' unless arr.size() is an inlined reference to a variable. 2.Since I will have a lot of such arrays, I would also like to know how many additional variables vector<int> keeps. I.e. exactly how big is vector<int> arr(5)? It might be trivial to copy boost::array and add constructor/destructor but I do not want to re-invent the wheel. Thanks. Bo

Regex failing to match postcodes

Basically, I need to make sure that a UK postcode is valid. The postcode that is passed to my function sometimes has extra things with it such as: Wakefield, WF1 3RD Shrewsbury SY2 5PT Shropshire It now seems to be failing to find the postcode in the above examples. Also, when I pass my function a postcode that I know is invalid, such as JG2 7L5 it matches it as G2 7L5 instead of failing to do the match. How to use STL and Boost in C codes.

Dear Lists, I am working on a projects which was written in C (*.c), is there any way to use STL Vector or Boost Smart pointer class in this original C codes. WHen I compiled these C codes with VC6.0++, and included with <vector>, the compile give fatal eroor C1189: #error :"eh.h is only for C++!", Any work around without modifying the codes are weclomes, thanks. Spirit Attributes, Semantic Actions, and Closures: The relationship.

Hi, I've been learning about Boost Spirit from the documentation, and one big gap I'm finding is how Spirit knows to call a particular signature semantic action given a particular parser. I see this has something to do with the match type, but I'm not sure how to actually define the match type for rule. I've discovered by accident that semantic actions seem to be called with the type of the closure member of a single-member closure, but I don't see this documented, and I can't quite figure out how its supposed to work. Its difficult to deduce expected signatures by the compiler error approach because GCC is giving fairly nonsensical errors for the sorts of template constructs Spirit seems to use, when something goes wrong. In particular, I'd like to know specifically how I am supposed to be defining semantic actions for my rules. Perhaps this is something that would be nice to be included somewhere in the documenation. Maybe it is, but I missed it somehow, or it wasn't spelled out explicitly enough for me to catch on. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated! (By the way, I have to repeat the almost obligatory comment that everyone seems to make about Spirit: it is one of the most beautiful examples of C++ I have ever seen!) Aaron W. LaFramboise

Is there any workaround? It seems that a wrapper class with instances of all available generators and some if-else code can do this but there should be better ideas. Many thanks in advance. Bo

Yes, that is what is happening. The problem is that your single_thread objects are destroyed at the end of the loop body. By the time the new thread runs its single_thread may have been destroyed along with all its members. Hi, I understand that by using enable_if the following way: template <class T> T foo(T t, typename enable_if<boost::is_arithmetic<T> >::type* dummy = 0); I can include/exclude the appropriate function overloads. When I write: template<class T> T foo(T t, typename enable_if<[condition1]>::type* dummy = 0, typename enable_if<[condition2]>::type* dummy = 0); Does this mean an AND-relationship between condition1 and condition2? (So that a particular overload is enabled if and only if both conditions evaluate to true?) Thx, Gus

regex v4: regex_replace fails on trivial case

Hi all, regex_replace("XX",regex("X", boost::regex::literal), "Y") returns "YXY" instead of "YY" whereas the (even more) trivial case regex_replace("X",regex("X", boost::regex::literal), "Y") returns "Y" as expected. I am using boost_1_31_0 compiled with VC6(SP5). In addition, I have applied the patches from the package boost-1.31.0-regex-patch-20040503. What is going wrong here? Bernd

newbie question: missing libs ?

After building Boost 1.31.0 on Linux and on Irix, I expected to see a smart pointer library, something like libboost_smart_ptr-gcc-mt.so If fact, it looks like only date_time, filesystem, prg_exec, regex, signals, test_exec_monitor, thread, and unit_test_framework were built. I didn't see any error messages. Did I do something wrong? Thanks, Randy

Hi, I'm having trouble getting shared_ptr objects and threads to work in harmony. Problem compiling Threading lib on Linux

Hi, I've been developing some code on Windows using Boost threads which works fine. I'm porting it to Linux and am having problems compiling the Boost Threading library. I'm running Linux Mandrake 10 Community Edition and have attached the output I get when running bjam. I don't actually have bjam included in the PATH enviroment variable as I'm not sure how to do this in Linux so I just copied the bjam exe into the thread build directory - I doubt it but could this be the cause of the problem? BGL: Internal Compiler Error with VC++ 7.1

Hi, I'm getting the following error trying to iterate over adjacent vertices in boost_1_31 with VC++ 7.1: c:\boost_1_31_0\boost\mpl\aux_\preprocessed\plain\apply.hpp(50) : fatal error C1001: INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR (compiler file 'msc1.cpp', line 2701) I have noticed other similar problems reported in the list archive along with a request for a short example. Query re a Boost calculus library

Hi everyone - I'm a newcomer to this list (but have used Boost Spirit for a long time). I've looked through the various Boost libraries and have noticed that there seems to be one area of mathematics that isn't covered by the existing libraries : calculus (derivatives, integrals). So, my question is - is there a reason for this, or is it just that a suitable library for inclusion hasn't appeared yet? ( I'm aware of a possible one that could be put forward as a candidate, but I don't know if it's "OK" for me to suggest a library ). Many thanks in advance. - Andy

Hi, I have took a look at some parts of the boost library, but I couldn't find what I want, and that is something like this: How can I determine if a type T has such and such member? It would look like something like this: has_member<T, paint>::result (true if T::paint() exists) has_member<T, m_size>::result (true if T::m_size exists) The closest to this I could find is boost::type_traits but that does not provide this functionality. boost::bind problem

Hi, Please take a look at the code below. The point is that for_each_treenode calls for_each_treenode_child. It seems to me that bind(Print, ref(cout), _1)(&t); is not the same as Print(cout, &t); But if this is the case, how come that for_each_treenode_child(&t, bind(Print, ref(cout), _1)); compiles and works without problem? Boost.Threads && MFC?

Has anyone ever used Boost.Threads in combination with MFC? MFC requires that threads using MFC functionality be created with AfxCreateThread(). What I'm wondering is if it is safe to create threads using AfxCreateThread() (instead of the Boost.Thread functionality) but then use the Boost.Threads mutexs and locking mechanisms to manage the thread activity. >From my brief perusal of the source it looks like it might work. But I was hoping I could find someone who had actually tried it and might have some experiences to share. :) Any information greatly appreciated! Thanks! Tim.

Thread usage question.

Hello all, I am currently using Boost threads in a project I'm working on that involves a server/client type communications system. The project is a 3D renderer, the particular component is the communications between the renderer core, and any number of interested display clients, which are responsible for either displaying or storing the resulting image. Within the main program I have a listener thread that waits for requests from the display clients, and when it recieves one, launches another thread to handle the response. The responder thread can often just construct and send the response immediately. But if the request is for data that hasn't yet been rendered, it needs to wait for the data to be available. The responder is implemented as a class which has an operator() overload for the thread function. I would like for the responder thread to first query the system to see if the data is ready, and if not, block waiting for a signal from the system to indicate it is ready. So I need a way for the thread to 'register' it's interest in a particular data item with the main system, then wait for the signal. I presume there is a neat way of doing this using boost::mutexes and boost::condition's but I can't quite work out how, I freely admint I'm not very experienced when it comes to threaded programming. I've looked at the Boost bounded_buffer.cpp tutorial and it does something similar, but I can't work out how to apply the principles to my situation. Any help is greatly appreciated. Some bad links on the web site

The web site contains a bad link: http://lists.boost.org/mailman/listinfo.cgi/boost-announce directs you to http://lists.boost.org/MailArchives/boost-announce for the archives. That gives a 404 Not Found error. I think there was another bad link related to mailing lists, but I can't find it again. By the way, it would be good if the web site had where to send web-site related queries and bugs on the bottom of every page. As far as I could tell, this list is the place to go.

Date time Library: ptime and special_values

The documentation for the date_time library states that a ptime can be constructed from a special value e.g. ptime(special_values sv) ptime t1(neg_infin); ptime t2(pos_infin); ptime t3(not_a_date_time); However when I try this with the Cygwin GNU compiler I get a no matching function for call error (see errors below) Am I missing something here or is the documentation wrong? Compiling with "Visual C++ Toolkit"?

Has anyone already successfully built Boost with the "Visual C++ Toolkit 2003", aka the free command line version of VC 7.1? I adjusted VC71_ROOT and copied "vcvars32.bat" to "bin". Hi, We compiled the latest RegEx library on: 1. SunOS 5.8 Workshop 6: We used the sunpro.mak makefile. Unfortunately, we received many error messages regarding conversions from enum to int and vice versa. 2. HP-UX 11.11 aCC 3.33: We used the generic.mak makeilfe. We got an error regarding dynamic_cast from char*& to char*. In both cases, we didn't run the configure script in libs/config, because if we do, we get many compilation errors (probably because of the #define-s in the created user.hpp). Are you aware of these problems? or are we doing something wrong? Is it imperative that we run the configure script and not use the default user.hpp? On top of that, we managed to overcome the problems I mentioned by simply specifing explicit conversion and casting, and we compiled RegEx on Forte 6 with the 64-bit compilation flag. The compilation worked, but unfortunately, the tests failed. (I mean, the compiled okay and run, but they say that tests.txt contains errors - something that didn't happen when compiling the 32-bit version). What can we do to make it work in 64-bits? Bind and shared_ptr

Hi, The current bind defines the placeholder _1, _2 etc. I was wondering if there is another placeholder that will deference the placeholder if the container is holding pointers instead of copies? Usually I store shared_ptrs in containers instead of direct copies as they are polymorphic class C; // this is our object we are storing typedef boost::shared_ptr<C> CSP; std::vector<CSP> C_List; Now we have a function that operates on C void Operate(C &c); C_List clist; // the list of shared_ptrs to C // this won't compile std::for_each (clist.begin (), clist.end (), boost::bind (Operator,_1)); I have to make an auxillary function to compile void Wrap_Operate (CSP &c) { Operate(*c); } std::for_each (clist.begin (), clist.end (), boost::bind (Wrap_Operate, _1)); Is there to avoid making the additional function and have a placeholder that will dereference directly (eg *_1, *_2)? bjam failed to build (mingw)

Hi, I have updated from CVS today, set the dev-cpp bin directory into PATH and run: build.bat mingw. This build has failed, attachment '1.txt' contains stdout&stderr outputs. Then I set two additional environment variables: set MINGW_ROOT_DIRECTORY=C:\Dev-Cpp set BOOST_JAM_TOOLSET_ROOT=C:\Dev-Cpp\ and again run: build.bat mingw. This build failed too, attachment '2.txt' contains stdout&stderr outputs. Am I something missing? Have a nice day, L.

I have another question. The following code won't compile. But if you change the first "listS" to "vecS", then it does. BGL: multigraphs with remove_edge_if

Hi, I have a question about the BGL. I'm trying to get remove_edge_if to work with a multigraph. boost::variant: need help with 'get'

I'm trying to use the "get" template with boost::variant but can't figure out how to get my compiler to recognize it. Boost::tokenizer and reverse iterators

I'm using boost v1_31_0 and gcc v3.3.2 In experimenting with boost::tokenizer to meet a requirement that I have, I've tried hooking it to a reverse iterator. This act produced a run-time error. This is the code: const string test = "One:Two:Three:Four"; typedef char_separator<char> Sep; typedef tokenizer<Sep,string::const_reverse_iterator> Tok; Sep sep(":"); Tok t(test,sep); for (Tok::iterator iter=t.end();iter!=t.begin();++iter) cout << *iter << endl; Executing this produces continous output of "garbage". Switching the ".end()" and ".begin()" references in the for loop doesn't fix this problem. Switching from "const_reverse_iterator" to "const_iterator" produces the following output: One Two Three Four Is there a way to use a reverse iterator with boost:tokenizer?

BGL: boost::read_graphviz()

Dear Group, During some initial experiments with the BGL-GraphViz interface, I observed a significant asymmetry between a given DOT graph input with boost::read_graphviz() and output with boost::write_graphviz() (without changing any attributes).
