Compilation of boost on HP-UX 11iv3 using aCC

Hi All, I am trying to compile boost 1.45.0 on HP-UX with HP compiler ( acc ) having version A.06.26. OS version : HP-UX 11iV3 on IA-64 _Question_ : Does anyone has experience of compiling boost with aCC compiler ? Does boost listed aCC as supported compilers ? As I tried to compile and compilation failed at points generating errors. I need to use boost for some production level software and if such issues occur, I wonder i may not be able to use boost on HP-UX. I earlier thought for using gcc, but it is no longer supported on HP-UX and it is risky to use it for production work. Please provide some directions in this regard. It will be immensely helpful for me. [Intrusive] Using a mutex-guarded smart pointer to achieve thread-safety

Hi, I was looking over Boost.Intrusive and specifically the section regarding smart pointers. I am mostly interested in the linked lists, so I don't have any need for size(); auto-unlink however is extremely useful to me. If I replace the default pointer with my thread-safe smart_ptr-like type (for example a wrapper that instead of doing reference counting, it guards the pointers with a mutex), do you think that the resulting intrusive container will be thread-safe? Has anyone attempted anything similar? Thanks

Interval Timer

Hi, I need an interval timer to continuously call my callback function after every n milliseconds/seconds for ever once I set it up. I also need the ability to kill/cancel the timer. Does Boost provide such a facility now? Sincerely, Asif

Passing format strings to printing tuples

The current tuple output mechanism wants me to say cout << formatting_manipulator << tuple; The expression (cout << formatting_manipulator) return an "embossed" cout, but currently it returns just cout with internal settings modified. The call must change things allocated within cout, like the standard manipulators do; although it is supported by the standard output, I find this approach so CFront-ish. How about using the syntax (cout << format_specification (tuple)) instead? Or even (cout << tuple / format_specification)? Chris

You could assemble that timer using asio's deadline_timer http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_47_0/doc/html/boost_asio/reference/deadl ine_timer.html The deadline_timer calls a callback at a specified time. Your callback would need to calculate the time of the next callback and restart the timer. Perhaps the following pseudocode could get you started: Public data members: * deadline_timer::duration_type trigger_interval * bool is_killed Private data members: * deadline_timer::time_type next_trigger * deadline_timer the_timer Constructor: is_killed = false Set trigger_interval next_trigger = now + trigger_interval Initialize the_timer Call the_timer.expires_at Callback: if (! is_killed and no errors happened) { next_trigger += trigger_interval Call the_timer.expires_at Do your processing }
