I have spent so much time to find how to build boost with only one combination of release/debug, multithreading, static/shared... that I want to record the method in the archive for other potential users. By default boost is build 16 times which corresponds to all combinations of: - release/debug - multithreading on/off - static/shared link - runtime static/shared link It takes ages to compile and we get roughly 1 giga-bytes of data. In general you need only one combination of these options but it is not very well documented how to set these options. Here is a simple mean: unix like environnement: $ configure --prefix=path_to_the_intallation_directory edit Makefile: BJAM_CONFIG=link=static threading=multi runtime-link=shared --layout=system LIBS=release $ make install nocygwin environnement (build cygwin independant library from cygwin, can be used in CodeBlocks or with g++ -no-cygwin): build bjam from cygwin (boost-jam-3.1.14.tgz): $ chmod 755 build.bat; ./build.bat gcc-nocygwin build boost: $ full_installation_path_of_bjam/bjam link=static threading=multi runtime-link=shared --toolset=gcc-nocygwin --prefix="windows_path_to_the_intallation_directory" --layout=system release install F. Hi How to connect method with more arguments (pointers) to signal using e.g. boost::bind? The code below works, but if I eliminate Data_type class from desing, and try to work directly on _two_ pointers I have a problem with connection methods to signal slots. Could anyone tell me how to do that? Compile failure with fairly simple use of multi-index / hashing on Solaris with CC 5.8 (boost 1.34.0)

I've a relatively basic example of using the multi-index capability that fails to compile on Studio 11 (CC 5.8) on Sparc. I submitted it to the tracker before spotting the injunction to talk to the mailing list first. Can anyone offer any relief here?

Hello, the following program crashes in the last line (deallocate) with VC8: #include "boost/pool/pool_alloc.hpp" int main() { boost::pool_allocator<int> a; int* i = a.allocate(0); a.deallocate(i, 0); } I didn't find any annotations about restrictions regarding the allowed size, neither in the c++ standard nor in the boost docs. I thought, calling allocate is the same as calling array new with 0 (gives back a pointer != 0 which must be array deleted). 'Explanation' of boostrapping problem

There is internal dissention as to whether the toolset name is 'sun' or 'sunpro'. Bjam wants 'sun'. regression.py and the configure script want 'sunpro', and the configure script leaves 'sunpro' in user-config.jam with the unpleasant consequences I reported.

boost::thread flush()?

Is there a method to release all threads waiting on a mutex? Or, more generally, a portable way to release a bunch of threads at the same time? (boost::asio?) I didn't see anything in the docs, besides barrier. Unfortunately, I can't guarantee the N threads will be waiting when a flush is needed. thanks, graham

The current doc for the multi-index feature uses the member<> parameterized type as the key extractor. The example source codes use some CPP macro all in caps that doesn't seem to be defined any longer. Perhaps the doc needs an update?

ambiguous overload using boost::variant

Hello, I'm having difficulty compiling the following code fragment using the Intel 9.1 C++ compiler. This little program mimics part of our application and the way we make use of the boost::variant class template. The build log follows at the end. The program itself is totally meaningless, but it just demonstrates a problem in either the compiler or in boost. The strange thing is that this program compiles nicely without any problem using the gcc 3.3.1 compiler on Linux. I appreciate any help. Therefore: mpl::front<my_vector>::type::value_type ^^^^ ^^^^^ + => integral_c<float, X>::value_type + => integral_c<float, X> result in correct type resolution stored in mpl::vector. Hope that helps. Hi, I have the following fun problem, seemingly simple, but couldn't find the trick. The objective is to convert a given argument list to some other one or more useful argument list. Each of the arguments are copied verbatim into the other list unless it is specified to be a SPECIAL_TYPE. For example the following two-argument macro function call: FUNKY_MACRO( 5, ( double*, SPECIAL_TYPE, const char[], SPECIAL_TYPE, int) ) would spit out: (double*, const char[], int, special1, special1); (double*, special1, const char[], special1, int, special2, special2); note that, in the first generated tuple SPECIAL_TYPE is replaced by some other text, and moved to the end of the tuple. In the second one, same replacement occurs and some yet other text is appended repeatedly at the end, same number of times as SPECIAL_TYPE appears in the original list. MSVC-7.1 does not compile all the project code

Hi, I downloaded and ran bjam from the BOOST home directory. Most of the projects compiled OK. But projects using read_graphviz_spirit.cpp cause "cl.exe" to terminate. cl.exe resulted in an buffer overrun error. The cl compiler I'm using is MSVC++ 7.1 standard edition (no optimization). ASIO: When part of official Boost release?

Hi, My apologies if this already has been asked, but I was wondering why the ASIO network library is not part of the standard distribution of Boost and doesn't appear on the Boost website. Preprocessor thingy

Hi, I don't know if boost has a solution for my problem, or there is just something simple I miss... I've been struggling with some preprocessor things. I'm trying to use it for versioning. Here is the problem: I've got these defines: #define VERSION_MAJOR 5 #define VERSION_MINOR 4 #define VERSION_BUILD 3 #define VERSION_SUBBUILD 2 Sometimes I just need a string like: "5.4.3.2". I do it like this: #define STRINGER_(s) #s #define STRINGER(s) STRINGER_(s) #define VERSION_STRING_1 \ STRINGER(VERSION_MAJOR) "." \ STRINGER(VERSION_MINOR) "." \ STRINGER(VERSION_BUILD) "." \ STRINGER(VERSION_SUBBUILD) So VERSION_STRING_1 is "5.4.3.2" Now I need a string like: "5.4.3b". (Note the 'b'. When VERSION_SUBBUILD == 3, I want it to be a 'c' etc) How do I do this in a preprocessor command???? The char is simple, its (VERSION_SUBBUILD+'a'-1). How do I add that to a string?? It just looks so simple, I can't stand I'm not finding a solution! I'm hoping someone could help me! Regards Johan

[spirit] MS compiler ICE when using push_back_a

Hi there, I'm using boost 1.34 and MS VC7.1 . The following code lets my compiler ICE. #include <vector> #include <boost/spirit/core.hpp> #include <boost/spirit/actor/push_back_actor.hpp> using namespace std; namespace sp = boost::spirit; int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { vector<int> n; bool ret = parse( "12", sp::int_p[push_back_a( n )] ).full; return 0; } The reason is the push_back_a actor. Error using boost::thread for the first time.

Hi there, I am using boost::thread for the first time as part of boost::asio. I am trying to compile the chat_client.cpp example. When I uncomment the threading line, it won't link.
