[BGL] destroying a subgraph

Hi all, I have a vector of subgraphs and at certain situations I have to remove some vertex from one of them. As this is not possible for now, I simply create a temporary subgraph with the vertices I want and replace the old one. The problem is that the memory allocated from the old one is not freed correctly. [lambda] warnings from Lambda

I'm finding that pretty much every lambda :: bind call I make is producing a c4180 warning under Microsoft which I think is warning about the application a meaningless qualifier to the first argument of the bind call. So given, say bool f( int ); lambda::bind( f, lambd::_1 ); inside lambda_traits a const qualifier is applied to f, which is already const, hence the warning. Anyone know how to avoid this, other than #pragma to disable the warning? Thanks, - Rob.

Copy a smart pointer into allocated memory

Hi, and sorry for the probable newbieness of this question! I want to put weak_ptr into a piece of memory previously allocated. this is my code: // construct a weak_ptr from a share_ptr boost::weak_ptr<Obj>* cameraPtr = new boost::weak_ptr<Obj>(obj_share_ptr); // lua_newuserdata allocs memory and returns a pointer to it, just like malloc. boost::weak_ptr<Obj>* camera = static_cast<boost::weak_ptr<Obj>*>(lua_newuserdata(pLuaState,sizeof(boost::weak_ptr<Obj>))); Now i want camera to be a weak_ptr of ObjPtr. I tried different ways to do this, such as *camera = boost::weak_ptr<Obj>(obj_share_ptr); or camera->swap(*cameraPtr); or *camera = *cameraPtr; I think none of these work because in fact they all do a swap() between camera and cameraPtr. Since camera is just an malloc, it will try to swap dirty memory and segfault sometimes (yes, sometimes this worked). Out of desperation, i did this: memcpy(camera,cameraPtr,sizeof(boost::weak_ptr<Obj>)); Which seems to work but it stinks. It's copying an object with memcpy instead of using its constructor. [BGL] Searching for index_map

When I run my program the output gives an id to each edge and vertex like so. <edge id="e262" source="n46" target="n43"> This must be the index. So how can I access this index? When I put the following in my code it fails to compile. error: ‘index_map’ was not declared in this scope for (tie(edge_iter, edges_end) = edges(g); edge_iter != edges_end; ++edge_iter) { get(index_map, *edge_iter, g); } Do I need "get_property(index_map) or something? Hello, I'm trying to implement the IncidenceGraph concept for an non-BGL undirected graph like datastructure. Following the boost documentation the target function used with edges from out_edges(u,g) must give vertices != u. Can somebody please explain me why this requirement is in BGL! I think it can make the adaption very difficult as it requieres to artificially orientate undirected edges for each call to out_edges. Any help would be much appreciated! Hi all!! In my class have an internal member of type typedef boost::ptr_map<int, Component> InternalComponentCollection; I'd like to provide const and non-const iterators, through appropriate two pairs of begin / end methods, in order to have "const Component&" and "Component&" as return type in each of the dereferencing operators. What's the way to do that? What I tried: Since the underlying storage relies in "pair" with a pointer, I thought of using a transform iterator to project "second" and then dereference the pointer; something like, for instance, ComponentIterator Begin() { return boost::make_transform_iterator(fComponents.begin(), fResolver); } where fResolver is an instance of template<class T1, class T2, class R> struct SecondResolver { typedef R result_type; template< template <typename,typename> class Pair> result_type operator()(const Pair<T1, const T2>& p) const { return * p.second; } }; and having typedef SecondResolver<KeyType, MappedType, MappedReference> ComponentResolver; typedef typename InternalComponentCollection::key_type KeyType; typedef typename InternalComponentCollection::mapped_type MappedType; typedef typename InternalComponentCollection::mapped_reference MappedReference; typedef typename InternalComponentCollection::iterator PairIterator; typedef boost::transform_iterator<ComponentResolver, PairIterator> ComponentIterator; The case for const iteration is similarly implemented, using the following typedefs: typedef SecondResolver<KeyType, ConstMappedType, ConstMappedReference> ConstComponentResolver; typedef const Component* /* No nested typedef for this...*/ ConstMappedType; typedef typename InternalComponentCollection::const_mapped_reference ConstMappedReference; typedef typename InternalComponentCollection::const_iterato PairConstIterator; typedef boost::transform_iterator<ConstComponentResolver, PairConstIterator> ComponentConstIterator; My remarks about my solution are: 1) SecondResolver is not an "UnaryFunction" in the sense of the C++ standard, since there's no "argument_type" nested typedef. Tough it seems that that isn't actually required by transform_iterator. I have problems in trying to define that typedef (see 2). 2) The actual pairs are instances of boost::ptr_container_detail::ref_pair so it wouldn't be right to typedef that as arg type (it's a "detail"). This class provides implicit conversion from std::pair, but no implicit conversion to std::pair. So that's why I wrote the operator() as a template function, since cannot give the operator an explicit type: nor ref_pair (being a detail), nor std::pair (not having the conversion). Should that conversion be provided? 3) I wrote ConstMappedType typedef explicitly, without relying in a nested typedef in the original class. Doing typedef const MappedType ConstMappedType; doesn't work because the const binds to the pointer, not to the pointed type. Hello, I want my program to be statically linked to runtime libs, which is using Boost.Regex. I'm using the following command: bjam --toolset=msvc-9.0 --builddir=./ --address-model=32 --link=static --runtime-link=static --threading=multi stage --build-type=complete --with-regex But I get the following error message: error: link=shared together with runtime-link=static is not allowed error: such property combination is either impossible error: or too dangerious to be of any use IMO, the option specified by "--link=static " is overlooked by bjam. [serialization] problems extending existing archive type

I recently revisited a problem I was having trouble solving awhile ago, and I'm still having issues. I wish to create a new archive type that is simply an extension of xml_iarchive that takes an additional construction parameter and then be able to retrieve that value from the archive later. This new archive type is part of a static library. See attached Archive.hpp/cpp for my most recent attempt. I should also mention that BOOST_ALL_DYN_LINK is globally defined in my environment. This is the cause of the errors in output1.txt. After looking at archive/detail/decl.hpp, I was able to get my static library to compile by defining BOOST_ARCHIVE_SOURCE while compiling the static library. I then get the linker errors in output2.txt when trying to use the new archive type from an executable. I'm sure I'm just missing something simple, but I need some hand-holding here because I've been at this awhile. [shared_ptr] Member functions as deallocators

I'm using shared_ptr to hold a SceneManager object. In this particular case, I don't actually want the shared_ptr to have ownership of the SceneManager, but rather take advantage of it to insure that the SceneManager it holds is cleared when the containing object (a game's state) is destroyed. The deallocator needs to call SceneManager::clearScene, but it needs to call it on the held object, so the deallocator call would be essentially (pointer held in shared_ptr)->clearScene( ); Can anyone give me some guidance on how to accomplish this? multi-thread server with boost::asio or boost::thread?

Hello boost users, I'm currently working on a MMO game server and have been using the boost::asio to deal with sockets. For now i'm concerned with responsiveness and scalability, and have been thinking of two ways to achieve that. The first way would be multiple calls to io_service.run, each in a different thread, using the strand object to synchronize the callback handlers. The other way is to explicit use threads and locks with the boost::thread lib. So could you point me what would be the main differences (maybe advantages and disadvantages) between both ways? ASIO iostreams example -- help?

Hi Folks, I'm just getting into ASIO, and am having problems with the examples. I'm trying out both the tcp::iostream examples and the (more basic?) synchronous TCP daytime clients in the tutorial. I have the server print the socket endpoint, which produces: 0.0.0.0:23421 (23421 being a randomly typed socket number, once I figured out that the '13' in the examples doesn't work because Linux reserves socket numbers up to 1024 for the kernel). I then run the client, providing 0.0.0.0:23421 on the commandline as the address to connect to. I get this: Host not found (authoritative) Does anyone know what that means? Simple question about boost::random

I think I'm overlooking something very simple, but I'm trying to generate random numbers that are uniform over the open range of various data types. Hey guys, I remember a while back using boost::unique_ptr<Foo>, but I can't seem to find that class anymore. I'm using Boost 1.39. I noticed boost::interprocess::unique_ptr, but this isn't the same thing I'm looking for. Where can I find the boost::unique_ptr class? Is this in the sandbox somewhere? Thanks.

[PropertyTree] Rewrite - Please Review

Hi PropertyTree users, I have completed the main bulk of the property tree rewrite/cleanup. In the course of this, I have made the code standard-compliant (it previously used a std::list of an incomplete type, which is not, strictly speaking, valid), made it follow the claimed complexities (find() was O(n), although the docs said it's O(log n)), and revised the customization interface quite thoroughly. Inevitably, there were breaking changes in this process. I would ask everyone who has existing code using PropertyTree to look at these changes and tell me their best guess at how much effort it would be to update the code to conform with the new interface, and how I could make this easier. The development is still in a branch, so you need to check out the SVN branch http://svn.boost.org/svn/boost/branches/sredl_2009_05_proptree_update to try out the new version. The breaking changes are as follows: 1) Probably the most common change need: ptree::find() now returns the new type assoc_iterator (const_assoc_iterator for the const version) instead of iterator (const_iterator). This means that you need to change the type of the variable you capture the result with to assoc_iterator. It also means you need to compare the result of find() against ptree::not_found() instead of ptree::end(). You can get an iterator from an assoc_iterator by passing it to ptree::to_iterator(). The other projection direction is currently not supported, although it would be trivial to add. 2) The number and order of template arguments to basic_ptree has been changed. The old arguments were * Key comparison predicate * Key type * Path type * Data type * Translator type The new arguments are * Key type * Data type * Key comparison predicate (defaults to std::less<Key>) The old order prevented defaulting and wasn't very useful in general. The new order is consistent with std::map. The path and translator arguments have been removed to simplify the interface of basic_ptree. Equivalent functionality is available (see below). If you used your own instantiation of basic_ptree before, instead of simply using the (wi)ptree typedefs, you will have to adapt your code to the new order. If you used custom path and/or translator types, read on. 3) put and put_child previously had a final parameter 'bool do_not_replace'. I don't like boolean parameters, especially those whose name contains a negation. I removed the parameter, and replaced its functionality by a pair of new functions, add and add_child. If you previously called put or put_child passing true for do_not_replace, you must change these calls to add or add_child, respectively. If you ever passed false explicitly, you have to remove this parameter. 4) Using custom path types has changed. You can no longer create individual basic_ptree instantiations with custom path types. Instead, a key type has a fixed path type associated with it. I can bring this functionality back pretty easily if required, but I want to see use cases for this first. (Such things are why I make this call for reviews.) Less template parameters to ptree is good, in my opinion. To use a key type other than std::basic_string specializations, you have to specialize boost::property_tree::path_of for this key type. The path_of struct contains a single type called type, which is the path to use for this key type. The way paths are implemented has also changed thoroughly. Previously, you had to implement a const and a non-const variant of get_child, plus put_child (with do_not_replace making that effectively two functions too). These functions contained a lot of logic that really belonged into ptree, making implementing custom paths tedious and error-prone. The new interface requires you to implement four functions, but they're far simpler. The functions are described in ptree_fwd.hpp in C++0x concept syntax, but here's the gist: bool path::empty() const -> is the path empty? bool path::single() const -> does the path contain a single element? key_type path::reduce() -> chop off the first part of this path and return it (basically a pop_front that returns the value). std::string dump() const -> get a readable form of this path for exception messages; feel free to return "" here if you don't care. The new interface should be easy to implement, and the tree traversal is now where it belongs (in the internal implementation functions walk_path and force_path). 5) Using custom translators has changed. A ptree no longer has a fixed translator associated with it. Instead, you can supply a custom translator to every get_value/get/put_value/put operation or use the default, which depends on the tree's data type and the type you extract/insert. An example: ptree pt; pt.put("k1.k2", 100); // Uses the default translator for std::string+int. // Note: the explicit template parameter here will go away. float f = pt.get<float>("k1.k2", my_special_float_string_converter()); The tree's own data type is called the internal type, while the parameter/return type is called the external type. The default translator for a internal+external pair is set by specializing the boost::property_tree::translator_between struct. By default, PropertyTree supplies an id_translator for when the internal and external types are the same, and a stream_translator for converting between a basic_string and anything else. Together, they faithfully emulate the behavior of the old default translator. Writing a custom translator is easy. It's a class that provides two typedefs and two functions: typename internal_type -> the internal data type typename external_type -> the external data type optional<external_type> Tr::get_value(internal_type) -> convert from the internal to the external type, boost::none on failure optional<internal_type> Tr::put_value(external_type) -> convert from the external to the internal type, boost::none on failure That's it for the changes. The new version of property tree is not quite complete yet. I still need to polish the documentation a little and document the new extension mechanisms properly. I also need to clean up a little. Finally, the INI parser doesn't work at the moment. However, the main functionality (tested by property_tree_test) plus the XML, JSON and INFO parsers should all work now. [program_options] [msvc 2010] 1.34.1: Error when compiling

Hello, I got hands on the Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1 and had to rebuild the 1.34.1 version of boost libraries I use in my project with the new VC 10 compiler. Thread, Test, IOStreams, Filesystem built fine, but program_options failed. Let me first clarify why I do need 1.34.1: This is the version that is most available on Linux servers (including the one I develop for), so I need this version on my development box to ensure source code compatibility, even though this version does not officially support even VC 9 (which however builds it fine and I happily use it). Below I list the errors that happened with the VC 10 compiler. I aggregated them to 3 issues. For multiple occurences of issue 1., I only copy/paste the full output for the first occurence. I would welcome if someone could tell me if these are the new compiler's fault, or not. If they are, I plan to report them on MS Connect so that they can hopefully get fixed before next Beta (or at least before the RTM). 1. Serializing derived class in dll

I am working on a programwith pluggable classes delivered in DLLs, so I have an virtual abstract base class in my EXE and both abstract and concrete classes in a hiearchy in my first DLL. I am trying ot serialize the derived class instances through a base class pointer. I am not able to get it to work after reading the samples in the documentation and the most likely looking threads here. So I broke it down in to a sample EXE/DLL and can still not get it to work. I am using version 1_38 currently, also tried with 1_36_0 I am getting the exeption on oserializer.hpp:374 where the comment says // note:if this exception is thrown, be sure that derived pointer // is either registered or exported. In my opinion I am exporting my derived class, but I am feeling that it is probably going into the wrong instance, since the export code is going into the DLL, but I can not find any other recomendation. I am saving and restoring thousand ptimes and integers. If I am saving/restoring only ptimes - everything works. If I add integers to it - it breaks. Code to reproduce the problem is shown below. [mpi] failed test and other issues

Hi, I'm using boost-1.39.0 with openMpi 1.3.2 on OSX 10.5.7. I'm getting some strange behavior when sending and receiving a vector of pointers between processes. The received pointer addresses are sometimes invalid. I'm not using the skeleton content code, just sending and receiving the vector. Some output: [2] processing edges from 1 [2] unpacking edge 0x834810 [2] unpacking edge 0x834810 [0] processing edges from 2 [0] unpacking edge 0x834ec0 [0] unpacking edge 0x834ec0 [2] processing edges from 3 [2] unpacking edge 0x8346c0 [2] unpacking edge 0x8346c0 [2] processing edges from 0 [2] unpacking edge 0x1 [2] unpacking edge 0x1 The hex value is the pointer address, and obviously doing anything with the edge with the weird address causes the app to crash. I can't see that I'm doing anything wrong (although of course that's a possibility) and so I thought I'd run the boost mpi tests.
