not available for user code. Hello, I am using Ubuntu 8.10 with g++ 4.3.2 and boost 1.37.0 I have two issues I have run into with program_options. 1. Minor. When using program options to read option into a short or unsigned short g++ gives me a warning of: /opt/boost/1.37.0/include/boost-1_37/boost/any.hpp: In member function ‘void boost::program_options::typed_value<T, charT>::notify(const boost::any&) const [with T = short unsigned int, charT = char]’ 2. I have a need to pass configuration into a plugin for another package. When using multiple plugins that are compiled with the program_options I run into a problem that the second plugin loaded is unable to use program_options to parse the configuration file and dies with an error of: boost::bad_any_cast: failed conversion using boost::any_cast Any assistance anyone can provide on these 2 matters? -- Regards, Mikhail Veygman

I am using Visual Studio 2008 SP1 with the Intel 11.0 compiler and boost 1.38. I am compiling with the pre-processor directive: BOOST_HAS_TR1 (though I am not sure this does what I thought it did does since I see boost::tuples is used below). When I use the native tr1 function, I am unable to put a boost::lambda into it (which worked fine with boost::function), I get an errors. Any ideas? [serialization] Polymorphic archives in 1.38

I've been using serialization with polymorphic archives from boost 1.38, but I had to apply the patch given by Vladimir Prus (http://lists.boost.org/boost- users/2009/03/45658.php) to get it linking (with MSVC71). Hello everybody! When i upgrade boost form 1.33.1 up to 1.39 I get the following assertion failed error message: Debug Assertion Failed! File: F:\dd\vctools\vc7libs\ship\atlmfc\src\mfc\dllinit.cpp Line: 587 ================== void AFXAPI AfxCoreInitModule() { ASSERT(AfxGetModuleState() != AfxGetAppModuleState()); All run ok when i rollback boost. There are breaking changes in boost.Thread http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_39_0/doc/html/thread/changes.html since 1.33 Interface of scoped_lock has been changed and boost::mutex now is boost::recursive_mutex. error 2039 & 2873 at boost\archive\codecvt_null.hpp(30). A problem of codecvt namespace. It seems stlport hides codecvt's namespace out of gobal. Hello! I am using boost regexp to do string/expression match. I got several dump files that have the same call stack when the crash happends. What my code does is copying user buffer (containing string to be mached) to an internal allocated buffer and then call boost regexp functions. [function_traits] How to detect function arity for functors with member template?

I am interested in tag dispatching in a generic function depending on whether the passed in argument is arity 1 or 2. My problem is that I want to have a generic expectation operator that is passed in a function to take the expectation over, and a distribution for the integration. The expectation needs to support both real and mixed-integer measures and functions. Consider the following functions it should work with: struct my_real_functor { template<std::size_t N> double operator()(ublas::bounded_vector<double,N>& x) {...} }; template<std::size_t N> double my_real_function(ublas::bounded_vector<double,N>& x) {...} struct my_mixed_functor { template<std::size_t RealN, std::size_t IntN> double operator()(ublas::bounded_vector<double,RealN>& real_x, ublas::bounded_vector<int,RealN>& int_x) {...} }; .... naturally, part of the problem is that the functor could have both specializations, so I recognize this might be tricky. I havn't received replies on this, and wonder where is the correct place that I should post this kind question. I got full stack using VS 2005. It tells that register EBP is corrupted in the function boost::re_detail::abstract_protected_call::execute. Before this function, the value of EBP value is correct. Is there any similar problem that has been known already? Thank you. [program_options] detecting if "arguments" are passed

I am using Boost.ProgramOptions to parse my command line options. By default, I an exception is thrown when an unknown option is passed. So far, so good. Suppose I have a program p that takes only the option --help - and nothing else, esp. not a "positional option" or "arguments". I.e. I would like to croak a message to the user if she call something like p /tmp/x ProgramOptions does croak when I call "p -v", but not when I call "p /tmp/x". Question: What is the recommended way to catch unwanted (or forbidden) arguments (not options!)? (I know I can define a positional like --input-file and then check if any of those are present. But that seems quite awkward for such a "simple" thing.) Best regards Christoph

Hi Jan, Thanks for your reply and sorry for taking so long to respond. I am a bit confused by your response. I never did expect begin() to move forward after push_back(). In my original post, what I said is that I expect begin() will remain constant and that **end() will move forward** each time push_back() is called. My main question is this: why does end() remain constant when push_back() is called on a circular_buffer? Rather than stuffing all values in to a vector as the example does what I'dx like to do is to determine how many columns exist and stuff all values in to a multi-dimensional array. [Units] help with type-safe unit-specific conversions

I have been playing with Boost.Units as part of a work project recently, and I am not sure what the best approach to "demarshalling" values in a specific unit. For example, I would like to do something like: using namespace boost::units; struct A { enum { feet, kilometers }; quantity<si::length> some_length; double foo(int type) { switch(type) { case feet: return quantity<feet>(some_length).value(); case kilometers: return quantity<kilometers>(some_length).value(); } } }; This approach is necessary for passing values to external libraries which do not (and probably will never) use Boost.Units. Is conversion_factor the best approach, or is there a way to achieve this implicitly using the type system? Thanks Justin

filesystem: create_directory unexpected exception

Platform: Windows XP Pro Boost version: 1.38 1.39 (BoostPro binary release) try { boost::filesystem::create_directory ("C:\Program Files\hello123"); } catch (const boost::filesystem::basic_filesystem_error<char*>& ) { std::cerr << "Directory creation failed" << std::endl; } The above code crashes if user doesn't have root permission. I assume some exception is being thrown as catch (...) catches whatevers being thrown. The documentation says "Throws: basic_filesystem_error<Path> if Effects fails for any reason other than because the directory already exists." The requested directory "C:\Program Files\hello123" doesn't exist, so I should have caught a boost::filesystem::basic_filesystem_error. Is this a known issue or am I the only one seeing this? thanks, john

New Boost.Build tutorial

As I started to use Boost.Build recently I wrote everything down what I learnt and what is partly missing in the documentation. If someone likes me to add more rules and features just send me a mail (including a description as I don't know all rules and features myself :). This will not only make the reference more complete. Why boost::asio doesn't work???

I'm starting using Boost::Asio. I tried to write a simple class to send and receive asynchronously UDP datagrams, following the boost::asio tutorial. The class compiles fine, but it's not working and comes out with an exception about a mutex (which shouldn't be involved I guess). Basically there are two methods: one starts an async_receive_from and the other send packets asynchronously. I first start the receiver, then I try to send a packet to localhost (127.0.0.1). But nothing happens. Here is the code, maybe you may know what's wrong. getting a handle to another connection?

Hi, I need to send ip information of a client to the other one (as they will connect to each other directly now). I used async echo server sample <http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_39_0/doc/html/boost_asio/example/echo/async…>as a starting point. I guess sessions are recorded in io_service instance, since in the server constructor when we create session, we pass io_service to it. session* new_session = new session(io_service_); Can I get information of connected sessions from io_service? (or any other recommendations on how to better design it?) To expand my question: I am implementing a chat server, but the chats will not go over the server (is it a bad idea?). many clients connects, I keep their status (online or not) in a database. when A wants to talk to B, I need to pass request to B, how can I get a handle to my connection to B while I am in the instance of session with A? I am still not sure I understand io_service concept. Is this proactor thing similar to observer pattern? When we pass io_service as a parameter to something, are we registering it to be observed in io_service?
