[Interprocess] Using shared Memory with different compilers (msvc, mingw)

hi, My library uses boost::interprocess' Shared Memory and has to be delivered with msvc(7.1) and mingw compiled versions. Every instance of the that library opens a connection to the Shared Memory "sharedMemoryMapTest" and communicates via instances of the class "SyncObject". In my test program ProcessA opens the shared memory, instanciates a SynObject with the identifyer String "id1". ProcessB connects to the same SyncObject and synchronizes with ProcessA. If ProcessA and ProcessB are both compiled with the same compiler it works fine. If one process is compiled with mscv and the other is compiled with mingw it fails. (mscv = ProcessA, ProcessB = mingw -> I read my Windows environment variables instead of "id1") Did I make a mistake in my implementation, or is it simply not possible to access the same Shmem with different compiled versions? [ptr_container] ptr_vector and ptr_circullar_buffer don't initialize PODs

ptr_vector<T>::resize creates new objects using 'new T' instead of 'new T()', which results in uninitialized objects if T is a POD. For consistency with STL containers (std::vector in particular) all PODs must be explicitly initialized. [boost] Create Graph in Function

Perhaps an easy answer, but I am working on adding a boost graph to an existing code. I would like to create the graph in a function (not main) and then read/modify it in a separate function. I am unsure as to what I need to pass between the functions to allow this to work. In other words, I am able to correctly create the graph in a function and modify as necessary. This function will be called many times as the code runs and it is inefficient to recreate the graph every time. I want to create the graph once when the code is run and pass the created graph to the function. Due to the structure of the code (mostly Fortran), I can not define the graph in the main function of the code. My graph is defined as: adjacency_list<vecS, vecS, bidirectionalS, no_property, EdgeProperty> Graph; Thank you for any help you can give, James

Multiple binds on a asio socket

Hi, Is it possible to have multiple binds on a single socket instance? Say I have two multicast addresses that share the same port and use the same nic. On linux I would bind like so: listenEndPoint1(multicastAddress1.to_v4(), port); socket_.bind(listenEndPoint1); socket_.set_option(asio::ip::multicast::join_group(multicastAddress1.to_ v4(), interfaceAddress.to_v4())); } Can I then perform a second bind and join for the other multicast address? listenEndPoint2(multicastAddress2.to_v4(), port); socket_.bind(listenEndPoint2); socket_.set_option(asio::ip::multicast::join_group(multicastAddress2.to_ v4(), interfaceAddress.to_v4())); } If this is not possible or good practice, what would be the alternative? [serialization] Serializing a reference

I'm trying to follow the instructions in the document for serializing classes with reference members, which suggests I serialize them as pointers. The documentation suggests I do the following: "This raises the question of how and where the objects being referred to are stored and how are they created. [Thread] io_service post is unsuccessful

I'm trying to figure out why a call to boost::io_service::post might be failing. My program is multithreaded, and has a periodic "timing event" that is triggered. The timing event calls "Service.post(&OnSignal);" to execute a handler, while another thread runs the service. Using this design, I can post an event from any thread without worrying about explicit resource locking. My question is, why does my call to Service.post always fail? I know it is failing because the function that I post never gets called. There is not explicit return code or thrown exception to indicate that there is a problem. Below is an example of what I'm trying to do. Inside main(), there is a commented call to "Service.post(&OnSignal);". Uncommenting that line results in a successful post to the Service, which eventually calls OnSignal, (but only once, obviously). [Proto] Stuck turning a complex gramamr action to a primitive trasnform

I tried to turn a complex grammar transform : struct grammar : or_< ... ,bp::when< bp::nary_expr< bp::_, bp::vararg< grammar > > , bp::_default< grammar > ( _bp::functional::unpack_expr<bp::tag::function>( push_front( bp::_ , bp::_make_terminal ( some_type< bp::tag_of<bp::_> >() ) ) ) ) > into a single primitive transform but I end up stuck cause it seems some of those transform (make_terminal) don't follow the classic proto::result_of/proto namespace acces to compute it's return type and calling it. How should I handle these ? My intuition was that the transform oeprator() will call the equivalent function onto its expr parameters while its result struct compute the result_of by chaining the transform result_of results. range_ex

Hi list, what's the status of range_ex? I read that it was accepted into boost half a year ago. So, will it make it into 1.41? This week I downloaded it from the boost vault, as the version from the svn sandbox seemed to be outdated. I like it very much so far. Just two remarks/questions: - in my measurements using the piped adapters (filtered / transformed) was on average 4% slower than hand coded loops. Do I have to live with that, or are there any tricks / hints? - I can't use lambdas for the adapters. - transformed expects a result_type that also lambda::res<> doesn't seem to provide. - filtered tries to copy the functor, which in turn lambda doesn't seem to like. [bind] Unable to pass method to simple function pointer

Hello, I am trying to make a wrapper for libxml's SAX api, for learning purpose, I am trying to use bind to wrap sax events in a class like this : namespace sax { class document { public: document(); ~document(); protected: virtual void start_node( void *user_data, const xmlChar *name, const xmlChar **attrs ); xmlSAXHandler m_evhdl; xmlParserCtxtPtr m_ctxt; }; } The start_node() function is intended to be pointed by the startElement member from xmlSAXHandler ( it has same definition than start_node ). Here http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_40_0/libs/assign/doc/index.html#extensions is stated "it is illegal to take the address of a function in the standard library" Is it correct? Where is it mentioned in the Standard? 17.4.4.4/2 says that a member function may be replaced with the version with other signature, but a) "a member function" != "a function" b) May be replaced with the version with other signature doesn't mean one cannot take its address, it only means taking its address doesn't make sense for portable code.

[iterator] Automatic definition of transform_iterator reference_type

[Posted once again with better subject] I've encountered a problem when using boost::mem_fn in transform_iterators. In the attached example, I've chained two transform_iterators. The first iterator returns an Obj by value and the second extracts a member of the temporary object. The example shows that the return value is not quite what is expected. boost::mem_fn(&Obj::m_member) returns an int const&. The transform_iterator uses the return value of the UnaryFunction template parameter to initialize his value_type. In the given example, this logic seems too simple. At least if the UnaryFunction is of type boost::_mfi::dm the transform_iterator could do better: If Reference is boost::use_default If UnaryFunction is boost::_mfi::dm && Iterator::value_type is not a reference itself reference = boost::remove_reference( result_of(UnaryFunction) ) Else reference = result_of(UnaryFunction) Else reference = Reference Is this too much of a special case to fix it in the transform_iterator? The same logic would apply to all (unknown) functors that returned references to member variables. In general, the transform_iterator can probably not decide if a reference returned from a UnaryFunction will cease to exist when the temporary is destroyed. It could have been a global object. On the other hand, transform_iterators should work correctly if only boost objects are used, shouldn't they? [spirit][regex] rxstrlit/regex_p with wchar_t strings

Is it possible to use rxstrlit/regex_p with wide character strings (wchar_t based)? Or even better, with arbitrary char type/char traits pair? I tried this with suggested example (http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_40_0/libs/spirit/classic/example/fundamenta…) and after converting to wchar_t what was required and compiling it run successfully. But it generated a lot of warnings about converting wchar_t to char in headers that looked like regex headers. So I guess it worked only because the wchar_ts in the example are actually chars. If I changed the example to use wchar_t which have no corresponding char values the example would likely fail. In the end I have a string with templated char type and traits type (just like with string and iostream library). And I want to match it against grammar build from (among others) strings with the same char type and traits type. Can I force regex in Spirit to do that? Adam Badura

Preprocessor Sum Shift

I would like to take the following Sequence of Tuples: ((A, 1)) ((B, 1)) ((C, 1)) ((D, 2)) ((E, 4)) and create a summation as follows: ((A, 0)) ((B, 1)) ((C, 2)) ((D, 3)) ((E, 5)) I've been able to produce the following summation: ((A, 1)) ((B, 2)) ((C, 3)) ((D, 5)) ((E, 9)) Which is close to correct but is shifted. No matter what I try, I can't create the desired result. It seems the preprocessor library just doesn't have enough power to do the job, but maybe there's a way to do this I can't see. For those interested, the input represents member variables and their respective sizes. The output is member variables and their respective offsets within the struct (byte aligned in the example case). The ultimate goal is to generate some test case code, so feel free to suggest a non-preprocessor way to do the same thing. As an aside, I get warnings in the case where there is only 1 Tuple in the Sequence ((A, 1)). It would be nice to solve this too. Thanks email: <pdx247(a)yahoo.com>

I changed the config.jam file to point to the STLPORT installation. I'm using boost 1.35. I wanted to use boost::intrusive::unordered_set for std::string - couldn't find an example how to do it. Can someone give a small example?
