Hi all, I'm having some trouble getting the boost fusion tuple adapter working (the one that makes boost::tuples into conforming sequence types). I'm assuming that the adapted tuple should now be a legal MPL sequence but mpl::is_sequence yields false and consequently mpl::for_each doesn't work on the tuple type either. The following program is an illustration of what I am trying to do. I guess I must be missing something simple? Any help would be appreciated. Problems with boost serialization/shared_ptr/container

Hi I am using boost/1.41.0, and the following code give me compilation error when I try to deserialize a shared_ptr. The serialize part it compiled successfully. There was a post in 2008 (http://lists.boost.org/boost-users/2008/05/36589.php) about using a NULL cleanup function for thread_specific_ptr, but no response to the issue. It appears that there is now a special case in the code for thread_specific_ptr to not call NULL cleanup functions; is this official (and thus can be relied upon)? This is a versioning bug. The first of the following two lines is missing from the example shipped with 1.40: BOOST_CLASS_VERSION(bus_schedule::trip_info, 2) // missing from example // BOOST_CLASS_VERSION(bus_schedule, 2) // not necessary for example to work. When the schedule is recreated, the driver is not copied to the bus_schedule as the field is contained in the nested struct. When I replace the second macro with the first one, the example works.

Question about the boost::thread_group

Whether is it safe to invoke boost::thread_group::create_thread in an other thread and the join_all will wait for all the tow thread? I saw the source code of thread_group. It used a std::list to keep thread objects, and used a shared_mutex for synchronization. It lock on create_thread and shared lock on join_all. Is that mean if it run on "tg.join_all()" in main thread before "tg.create_thread(thread2);" in thread1, the "tg.create_thread(thread2);" will lead to a dead-lock because the "tg.join_all()" wait for thread1 finish, and thread1 wait for "tg.join_all()" finish on "tg.create_thread(thread2);" If it is so, how can I implement such a function? I'm having a hard time making it work. Any hints would be very much appreciated. I can get a full working test case up on the web, but I need to pull out some bits (especially from the test routine) that rely on other parts of my project. Alternately, if anyone knows of a freely-available implementation of this functionality (or, even better, one that stores std::strings directly instead of having to go to/from b::ip::strings, and maybe one that auto-sizes its shared memory pool)... I want a bimap<int,shared_ptr> in which the rhs is ordered not by pointer, but by thing pointed to. Can you give me a simple example to follow? I know this is a naive question, but I have searched the docs long and hard for such an example. If one appears, I'd be interested in knowing where. Thanks in advance.

[Boost][statechart] Any way to print events received by a state even discarded ones

Hi, I am struggling to figuring out when sometime I invoke process_event on a state-machine in a specific state I do not see the necessary transition taking place. I know I am in a specific state because I log everytime I enter a state. Post mortem also I use the custom_static_type_ptr and state_iterator code to print the state the machine is in and I am able to confirm that I am in that said state. I initially had defined a very straightforward state-machine and simple outer-state. And 9 out 10 times the simple event triggers the necessary transition but in a few instances I see no response/or transition. Is there some way to see if the event got silently discarded. Is it being queued to the state-machine, an exception event raised. I just want to understand what is happening. After the said event had occurred I print the state I expect to be in, print some member variables and things look ok so I am really at a loss for why the event would be just lost. Thanks - I really really appreciate any debugging guidance.

Class hiarchy: --- Event EventNotification EventNotificationUser --- Each class calls boost::serialization::base_object<...>(*this); and has BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_GUID(..., "...") at the end of their header. >From what I can gather from the manual this is what's needed for boost to know the types and be able to serialize them, but I still get "unregistered void cast" exception when I do this: EventNotificationUser e; Event* ep = &e; ar & ep; Thanks, Christian

uBlas and openMP?

Hi all, I'm working on a project using uBlas. I'm using dense vector and dense matrix, the dimensions of these structures are very big. So, I was thinking about the opportunity to modify some algorithms of uBlas using multi-thread programming. I've tried to do this using openMP. Below, you find my first attempt. Serialization of pointers ? --> loading not working ...

Hello again ! I am continuing my structure serialization ... Seems I do not get something with pointers ... I have followed the "demo.cpp" example and tried to do the same as they are doing for pointers but I get an exception when trying to relaod my structure ! Hope someone can help me .... [spirit] boost 1.33.1, HP-UX ia64 & gcc-3.4.6 - doesn't work with optimization (-O2)

Hi, we have confirmation now from hp, that they could reproduce the problem (pls. see below). We here decided to switch to a newer gcc compiler version. And doing so we will also switch to a newer boost lib version. Actually we already tried the 1.41.0 with the old gcc-3.4.4. But for that there was a not backwards compatible change in boost::spirit impl. and API. [Serialization] Runtime error in load_pointer

Hello I do not have small working example, and can't reduce the problem to such. I know that is impossible to say what can be the problem from the following information, but still I 'll give it a try. I am getting runtime error in STL ( vector is out of range error ) when trying to load my shared pointer. The runtime error happens in basic_iarchive.cpp line line 431 : cobject_id_vector[i].bpis_ptr = bpis_ptr; I am using boost 1.41. Anyone has seen this error and maybe knows what can get to it. Thanks

sorry, the issue is not related to boost::serialization, but boost::spirit - see http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.user. Ease of use vs. stability

Hi there, I am using a multitude of different Boost libraries in my code. Since that code is growing quickly, I am increasingly running into bugs which I (sometimes) consider to be on Boost's side. Allowing only selected Boost versions which are known to run fine with my code would allow me to keep that code simpler and thus less error-prone. As my main platform is Linux, however, which usually comes with a given version of Boost (currently often 1.39), my users would be forced to compile Boost themselves, which will mean that they are less likely to start using my code. If I generally allow all Boost versions above a given version, I have to work around known bugs in certain Boost versions, at the expense of code simplicity and thus stability. Hi, I'm pleased to announce the new version of the Boost.Chrono library. The implementaton is quite stable; the new interface could suffer of some modifications, renaming, ... as far as you submit some proposals. I would request a formal review soon and I will need a review manager. I know that review managers are hard to find, so if you are interested in the library, please the Review Wizards.
