Win2k / NT Spell Check Wrapper

Hi all, My first time posting or visiting here. I'm trying to find out if anyone has ever worked with the spell checker .dll and .dic files that come with Win 2k / NT. I'm desiring to wrap / call this via VB or Lotus Script for a web application. I'm a newbie c++ programmer, but I'm learning fairly quickly. boost::bind for member functions

Hi, I'd like to be able to bind an object to to a member function argument, like the example below. NB: if I make not_ok()'s first argument an int and pass an int variable to bind, gcc will buy it. I've tried this every way that makes any sense to me and I have not been able to get it to work. I'm using gcc 2.95.3. Regex problems with HP aCC

I am trying to build the Regex library for hp_ux 11.0 using aCC version 3.33. I have tried both the current CVS version and version 1.28 of Boost. With either one, I get the same errors. Below is the full text of my error message. I have been able to build successfully on many other platforms. I found a message in the archives, accessible at http://lists.boost.org/MailArchives/boost/msg29179.php, where another user has experienced a similar problem. Has anyone solved this problem, or could any offer a possible fix? Is anyone using Regex on HP_UX? If so, any tips on configuration, etc, would be greatly appreciated. I am stumped by this one. not enough space for thread data

Hi As you can see in the subject this is a newbie problem. I tried the example code "Simple usage of boost::thread" (http://www.boost.org/libs/thread/doc/thread.html) with MSVC 6.0 and ended up with an error message: R6016 - not enough space for thread data Are there any settings that must be set before this code will work? Does anyone know why I am seeing problems? I am trying to compile boost on a SunOS 5.6 with gcc 2.95.3, using stlport 4.5.3. [BGL] Newbie problems with property_map interface

Hi, I'm just starting to learn how to use BGL, and have a few questions. Help would be much appreciated. I'm currently trying to understand the add_vertex function where properties can be assigned to the vertices as the graph is constructed. The only info I've managed to find on the website is this: --------- vertex_descriptor add_vertex(const VertexProperties& p, adjacency_list& g) Adds a vertex to the graph with the specified properties. Returns the vertex descriptor for the new vertex. --------- Does anybody have any examples on how to use this? More specifically, consider the following. I want to construct a graph dynamically, i.e. the graph will grow and shrink during runtime. Let's say I have a Node class with one member (which I want to represent as an "internal property") as follows: class Node { public: std::string name; }; And an Edge class, again with internal properties: class Edge { public: int weight1; double weight2; }; Then my graph object would look something like this, right? typedef adjacency_list < vecS, vecS, directedS, property < vertex_name_t, std::string >, property <edge_weight_t, int, property <edge_weight2_t, double> > > Graph; Where do I go from here? VC7 + STLPort (and other assorted questions)

Is there any way to force boost to build using VC7 and STLPort? I tried the obvious (settings TOOLS=msvc-stlport, and setting MSVC_DIR=<path to VC7>), but I got a ton of compiler errors that way. I ask because VC6 + STLPort 4.5.3 has some serious issues with the the VC6 compiler, causing internal compiler errors (very bad :P). Also, I keep hearing mention of a way to build the boost libs from inside the VC IDE (and the ability to build them for static linking), but I can't find project files, or a Jam option to build static. What am I missing? This is all Boost 1.28.0. Matt Holmes

What follow is the descriptions of a possible bug. Unfortunately I'm using MSVC++ and ran into some unexpected behavior using boost::regex_format and a stringbuf. I compiled 1.27.0 without the /Oa flag as suggested in the installation notes. In summary, this works: stringbuf line; ... string tmp = line.str(); if (regex_match(tmp, matchInfo, linerx)) { string name = regex_format(matchInfo, "$1"); } but this doesn't: stringbuf line; ... if (regex_match(line.str(), matchInfo, linerx)) { string name = regex_format(matchInfo, "$1"); } By "doesn't work" I mean that 'name' has spurious characteres. If this might be a bug, let me know and I'll track it down to a small, compilable example.

Is getting/setting thread priority implemented in boost threads? I didn't see any mention of it on the web site, other than the behavior of mutexes under Priority Driven scheduling. boost::recursive_mutex::scoped_lock is crashing with some unknown exception in its destructor, no matter whether the lock is locked or not. Has anyone else experienced this problem and possibly have a solution? Thanks, Toby

MS VS 6: passing boost::shared_ptr<T> to a dll function

Hi all, I am trying to pass a smart pointer (boost::shared_ptr<T>) as an argument to a function that is implemented by a dll and called by an executable, but whenever I execute the application, it goes into a loop, no matter what the type of T is. When the function is implemented in the exe or when the function is called from inside the dll it works fine. Does anybody have a clue what could be happening? BTW, I'm not implicating a bug in boost, I know that it could as well be a MS VC++ bug but I would just like to know how this comes and how I can solve it. I have a few more questions regarding boost::threads: 1) Is is at all possible to get a return value from a function which was passed into a thread - for example after calling thread.join() ?? 2) Assuming that I create a thread from within another thread ( for exaple: from within the "main" thread - main()); is there a mechanism for that newly created thread to notify my "main" thread that it has finished execution?? Is there some sort of library (I am looking for something platform independent) which would allow me to do that?? 3) I would lie to run two threads in a client application. One would be responsible for receiving and the other for sending data. The threads would basically run in infinite loops. Both sending and receiving would be done to/from the SAME socket. My question is: Do i still have to lock the mutex during each opperation?? I have been doing a LOT of testing WITHOUT locking it and have not had my program crash (yet). Is that because the kernel (running win2000 and using the winsock API) is somehow dealing with all the overhead of locking/unlocking the socket, or have I just been lucky?? This has little to do with boost (which, again, is why I can answer; at least in part) A member function cannot be addressed like a regular function. Ask yourself this question: With just a function pointer to go by, what will the compiler use for 'this'? The Good News: STL contains a template functor to take care of this for you: "std::mem_fun". I haven't messed with it personally, but the docs sure make it sound like it would do the trick. The Bad News: I'm not so sure the thread class will let you use it. I'm not familiar with the function0<> template, so I don't know whether or not std::mem_fun will work with boost::thread. Your problem was that the EXE was using the single-threaded runtime, but the DLL has been set to multithreaded. The mutex lock in the DLL was spinning forever. When I set both to multi-threaded, it works, even with different heaps. Interesting issue.
