boost::filesystem::path corruption

Hello all, I've recently started using some of the Boost libraries, one of which being boost::filesystem. I have however encountered a problem while using the library, which as far as I can tell is a bug. I'm not sure if anyone is aware of this problem, or if is not an issue with the library itself but rather with my configuration - in either case a description of the problem follows: Whenever I instantiate a boost::filesystem::path object and try to print out a text representation of the path using a method such as .string(), the path itself is printed out, however it looks as though the string is not terminated properly as a whole bunch of trailing garbage appears after the path. The following sample program produces the problem for me: #include <iostream> #include <boost/filesystem/path.hpp> int main(int c, char** v) { boost::filesystem::path testpath("test/path"); std::cout << testpath.native_file_string() << std::endl; return 0; } When I run this code I get output similar to the following: test/pathpÿÿÿÿtest/ÿÿÿÿdataÿÿÿÿpath... etc (a whole bunch of other random stuff like days of the week & month, as well as garbage character strings) Can anyone shed some light on this for me? limiting searches in BGL

Hello, I am just starting to use the BGL, and have been beating my head upon a problem. I am needing to find an irregularly bounded set of points in three dimensional space. The points are within a convex hull and the graph edges are edges in a delaunay triangulation. I want to start at a node known to be on the hull, and crawl through the inside with either depth first or breadth first search. If you are on the hull, you would not allow the search to continue outside the hull. I thought of doing this with a simple visitor, and color the unwanted vertices black. However, from inside the scope of the visitor, I do not believe I can have access to the colors. Several ugly hacks come to mind, but I would like to know if there is an easy way of doing this first? -Jason Crosswhite

That's a functor which returns true if the search should not continue after a certain vertex. - Volodya

dynamic boost::array and performance/size of STL vector

Dear list, I frequently need to use arrays with undetermined (at compile time) but constant (user specify size) size. I.e., I need something like boost::array<int> arr(5); without arr.insert etc, rather than boost::array<int,5> arr; which only accept constant array length. Of course I can use 'vector<int> arr(5)' in this case but I am worry about the performance and size overhead, specifically: 1. How is size() implemented in vector<>? I am concerned with this function since icc (intel c++ compiler) can not vectorize 'for(i=0;i<arr.size();i++)' unless arr.size() is an inlined reference to a variable. 2.Since I will have a lot of such arrays, I would also like to know how many additional variables vector<int> keeps. I.e. exactly how big is vector<int> arr(5)? It might be trivial to copy boost::array and add constructor/destructor but I do not want to re-invent the wheel. Thanks. Bo

Regex failing to match postcodes

Basically, I need to make sure that a UK postcode is valid. The postcode that is passed to my function sometimes has extra things with it such as: Wakefield, WF1 3RD Shrewsbury SY2 5PT Shropshire It now seems to be failing to find the postcode in the above examples. Also, when I pass my function a postcode that I know is invalid, such as JG2 7L5 it matches it as G2 7L5 instead of failing to do the match. How to use STL and Boost in C codes.

Dear Lists, I am working on a projects which was written in C (*.c), is there any way to use STL Vector or Boost Smart pointer class in this original C codes. WHen I compiled these C codes with VC6.0++, and included with <vector>, the compile give fatal eroor C1189: #error :"eh.h is only for C++!", Any work around without modifying the codes are weclomes, thanks. Spirit Attributes, Semantic Actions, and Closures: The relationship.

Hi, I've been learning about Boost Spirit from the documentation, and one big gap I'm finding is how Spirit knows to call a particular signature semantic action given a particular parser. I see this has something to do with the match type, but I'm not sure how to actually define the match type for rule. I've discovered by accident that semantic actions seem to be called with the type of the closure member of a single-member closure, but I don't see this documented, and I can't quite figure out how its supposed to work. Its difficult to deduce expected signatures by the compiler error approach because GCC is giving fairly nonsensical errors for the sorts of template constructs Spirit seems to use, when something goes wrong. In particular, I'd like to know specifically how I am supposed to be defining semantic actions for my rules. Perhaps this is something that would be nice to be included somewhere in the documenation. Maybe it is, but I missed it somehow, or it wasn't spelled out explicitly enough for me to catch on. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated! (By the way, I have to repeat the almost obligatory comment that everyone seems to make about Spirit: it is one of the most beautiful examples of C++ I have ever seen!) Aaron W. LaFramboise

Is there any workaround? It seems that a wrapper class with instances of all available generators and some if-else code can do this but there should be better ideas. Many thanks in advance. Bo

Yes, that is what is happening. The problem is that your single_thread objects are destroyed at the end of the loop body. By the time the new thread runs its single_thread may have been destroyed along with all its members. Hi, I understand that by using enable_if the following way: template <class T> T foo(T t, typename enable_if<boost::is_arithmetic<T> >::type* dummy = 0); I can include/exclude the appropriate function overloads. When I write: template<class T> T foo(T t, typename enable_if<[condition1]>::type* dummy = 0, typename enable_if<[condition2]>::type* dummy = 0); Does this mean an AND-relationship between condition1 and condition2? (So that a particular overload is enabled if and only if both conditions evaluate to true?) Thx, Gus

regex v4: regex_replace fails on trivial case

Hi all, regex_replace("XX",regex("X", boost::regex::literal), "Y") returns "YXY" instead of "YY" whereas the (even more) trivial case regex_replace("X",regex("X", boost::regex::literal), "Y") returns "Y" as expected. I am using boost_1_31_0 compiled with VC6(SP5). In addition, I have applied the patches from the package boost-1.31.0-regex-patch-20040503. What is going wrong here? Bernd

newbie question: missing libs ?

After building Boost 1.31.0 on Linux and on Irix, I expected to see a smart pointer library, something like libboost_smart_ptr-gcc-mt.so If fact, it looks like only date_time, filesystem, prg_exec, regex, signals, test_exec_monitor, thread, and unit_test_framework were built. I didn't see any error messages. Did I do something wrong? Thanks, Randy

Hi, I'm having trouble getting shared_ptr objects and threads to work in harmony. Problem compiling Threading lib on Linux

Hi, I've been developing some code on Windows using Boost threads which works fine. I'm porting it to Linux and am having problems compiling the Boost Threading library. I'm running Linux Mandrake 10 Community Edition and have attached the output I get when running bjam. I don't actually have bjam included in the PATH enviroment variable as I'm not sure how to do this in Linux so I just copied the bjam exe into the thread build directory - I doubt it but could this be the cause of the problem? BGL: Internal Compiler Error with VC++ 7.1

Hi, I'm getting the following error trying to iterate over adjacent vertices in boost_1_31 with VC++ 7.1: c:\boost_1_31_0\boost\mpl\aux_\preprocessed\plain\apply.hpp(50) : fatal error C1001: INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR (compiler file 'msc1.cpp', line 2701) I have noticed other similar problems reported in the list archive along with a request for a short example. Any advice would be appreciated. Query re a Boost calculus library

Hi everyone - I'm a newcomer to this list (but have used Boost Spirit for a long time). I've looked through the various Boost libraries and have noticed that there seems to be one area of mathematics that isn't covered by the existing libraries : calculus (derivatives, integrals). So, my question is - is there a reason for this, or is it just that a suitable library for inclusion hasn't appeared yet? ( I'm aware of a possible one that could be put forward as a candidate, but I don't know if it's "OK" for me to suggest a library ). Many thanks in advance. - Andy
