Hi, I am able to compile the boost libaray on my linux machines. I am not able to use it. Is there a simple program I can try to compile to make sure I am doing things correctly. I'm sorry. its a shortcoming of mine, but I can't do _anything_ until I have a working stub. (or hello_world, or wahtever you want to call it.) write_graphviz: write out edges when vertex data is a boost::shared_ptr?

How does one write out the proper edge node names when the vertex data is a boost::shared_ptr? My graph is defined as: typedef property< vertex_index_t, uint32_t, property< vertex_name_t, boost::shared_ptr<Component> > > VertexProperty; typedef adjacency_list<setS, // OutEdgeList setS, // VertexList directedS, // Directed VertexProperty> // VertexProperties Graph_Type; The call in graphviz.hpp at line 269 has me confused. I understand that the node ids are printed out by looking for the value stored in the vertex_index_t property, graphviz.hpp at line 263. So if the value stored at the vertex_index_t property was the value '3' the node's name would be '3'. The edges are what have me confused. I would expect that the source id and the target it would be the value of the vertex_index_t property. So if there are two nodes the dot file would be: 0[label="A"]; 1[label="B"]; 0 -> 1; Yet with a boost::shared_ptr stored in a vertex_name_t property I get: 0[label="A"]; 1[label="B"]; 0x807a108->0x807a128; Well anything starting with a '0x' is ambigiuos to the dot parser. It breaks the 0x807a108 into two names. I need to use a boost::shared_ptr for my data. I believe I have not used the right boost::property type. Is that right? Here is my attempt at writing a PropertyWriter. What is the best method for storing a type in a boost graph vertex? By value or pointer? I have the following graph type: typedef property< vertex_index_t, uint32_t, property< vertex_name_t, boost::shared_ptr<Component> > > VertexProperty; typedef adjacency_list<setS, // OutEdgeList setS, // VertexList directedS, // Directed VertexProperty> // VertexProperties Graph_Type; The Component is a class. signals library with stlport

how can i compile the signals library with stlport? i have tried setting STL_PORT_PATH and STL_PORT_VERION but when i run bjam -sTOOLS=vc-7.1-stlport it says it cannot find vc-7.1-stlport.jam (which is true, there's only jamfile and jamfile.v2 in signals/build) and if i just run bjam it gives me the native stl libraries (which, of couse, won't autolink with my program). can you help me? ---------------------------------- Peace and love, Tweety mitea(a)sympatico.ca - tweety_04_01(a)users.sourceforge.net YahooID: tweety_04_01

Hi, Below is a list of bugs (at least I think so) in boost graph library: 1. I used the functions illustrated in file "components_on_edgelist.cpp" on a adjacency_list graph instead of a edge_list graph. It gave the correct number of components in the graph, but when printing out each components, the nodes in some of the components were disconnected. Also, segmentation fault was flagged.(This happened when the graph had a lot of components.) 2. I ran the source code in file "subgraph.cpp" as it was, the output was different from the sample output given in the same file. The difference was: the subgraph had global edge index, but local vertex index. 3. When creating multiple subgraphs, code like below would give segmentation fault: " typedef property<vertex_name_t, string> VertexName; typedef property<vertex_index_t, int, VertexName> VertexProperty; typedef property<edge_index_t, int> EdgeProperty; typedef subgraph< adjacency_list<vecS, vecS, undirectedS, VertexProperty, EdgeProperty> > Graph; ... Graph G(N); //add edges to G //assign names to vertices in G ... Graph & G1 = G.creat_subgraph(); //add vertices to G1 //assign names to vertices in G1 ... " When using function put(PropertyTag, const subgraph& g, Key k_local, const Value& value) to assign names to the vertices of subgraph G1(it seems that the name of vertices in G is not automatically inherited by G1.), it gave segmentation fault. This problem would not happen if the number of subgraphs was few such as 2. Hi, I came across this problem in using the threads package. write_graphviz with listS as vertex container

Hi all, I've been using the Boost Graph Library for a project that requires the use of the graphviz library, and have run into a quandary. For reasons that are a bit complicated to get into right now, my users need to be able to remove vertices from what are at times extremely large graphs (~75,000 vertices), so vecS is clearly the wrong type for runtime reasons. The problem comes with write_graphviz. As the documentation points out, the graph must have an internal vertex_index property map; listS doesn't have an inherent vertex_index the way vecS does, so I've defined vertex_index as a property (along with vertex_name); the code compiles and runs. However, in the DOT output, I get a vertex list that looks like: 0[label="foo"]; 1[label="bar"]; 2[label="baz"]; [....] and an edge list that looks like 0x8061d90->0x8061db8 [weight="5"]; 0x8061d90->0x8061c50 [weight="13"]; [....] Obviously, the edge list is using vertex descriptors (which in this case end up being the memory location of each vertex object), while the vertex list is using vertex indices (and a quick look at graphviz.hpp confirms this; starting from line 262, the function uses get(vertex_index, *i) to get vertex identifiers for the vertex list in the DOT file, and source(*ei, g) and target(*ei, g) to get source-vertex and target-vertex identifiers for the edge list. This isn't a big deal when the vertex list type is vecS, of course, because vertex-index is basically a pointer into the vector, but it doesn't work for listS, setS, et cetera. Any suggestions for how to resolve this contradiction? I suppose I could try overloading source() and target(), but if there's an easier way to do it, I'd rather go that route. :) Cheers, Meredith L. thanks again brian.Like u said, i also thought about project settings and made sure I had set the various options and linker specifications correctly...well, i solved a lot of issues and i am down to 12 errors from initially 122. Which is quite a relief, but these last 12 are still an issue taking away a considerable time of mine. I am working on them right now but do let me know if you have any clue. They are mainly some issues with luabind and boost. I have just made #include references to luabind and boost. Havent included any .libs for them, so it would be great if you let me know if there are any specific .libs for the same that need to be added to the project settings. I am *not* an expert on bjam (working on it though) but I know just in the VC world, you WILL get errors like below if you do not have your debugging and threading models all set the same. ublas developer list accepting new members?

I've seen a number of ublas questions here recently (including my own); is there difficulty in joining the ublas-dev list on yahoo groups? (Daniel Elliot also commented on this last week.) My membership application there is pending still - its only been 2 days for me but still no posts on ublas from Daniel. (Has everyone in the US gone on holiday to avoid the election coverage?). Could the registration process at ublas-dev in yahoo groups be relaxed as there do appear to be measures to stop spambots autoregistering.

Suggestion: MS VC is EXTREMELY finicky about having all the settings be very close on all aspects of everything you are linking. I.e. I would double check to make sure that those settings like "not using MFC" and "Single Threaded-Debug MSVCRT" are all set the SAME amongst everything you are building. (!!) I am *not* an expert on bjam (working on it though) but I know just in the VC world, you WILL get errors like below if you do not have your debugging and threading models all set the same. I would also suggest to you if you setup JUST VC projects for EVERYTHING and get everything to build properly in the MS tool (I am not sure if below is bjam or not) that will at least get you to something that works and it will be easier to take the bjam step from there. You can also make a solution- and then add the individual project files under that one "parent solution" which will make the above steps easier. thanks brian and aleksey....well i installed the latest beta of visual studio 2005 instead of my mvc 6.0. It did get rid of the block scoping issues and many other compiling issues i was facing. I had to replace the apply_if with eval_if everywhere. could understand the exact technicalities of that, but read it from some post on the forum and just followed it..... now, i got different issues Boost::Regex - bug work-around...?

Hi there... I've been trying to implement some routines using the Boost library, primarily with the excellent RegEx library. Everything was working well enough in small tests, but when I tried running the routines on many patterns, my program would crash (it performs various pattern matching and search-and-replaces in multiple text files). I was able to determine that the crashes came on the calls to regex-related functions (though it tended to be a little unpredictable as to when, depending on the set of files I gave it). I tried changing my project settings (I use VC6, btw) to link with "debug" libraries instead of the standard ones (eg. "Debug Multithreaded"), and ran the program again, and everything worked perfectly. Unfortunately... I don't want to have my program running with all-debug libraries for performance and size reasons. However, is it possible to have my link-settings set to use standard libraries as before, but for the stuff that uses the regex library, to use a debug ".lib" file? Or... in the 'bjam' process, is it possible to say something to the effect of "when compiling the regex libraries, turn off compiler optimizations", so I can get a standard library that should work...? Hopefully that'll make sense... :P Thanks for your time, Mike.

Hi, I am using VC++ 7.1 and getting an internal compiler error when compiling in DEBUG mode: boost\mpl\aux_\preprocessed\plain\apply.hpp(50) : fatal error C1001: INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR. This is at the declaration of boost::mpl::apply2 This does not happen when compiling in RELEASE mode. When doing a full build, two files cause this error, say X.cpp and Y.cpp. If I first clean the build and compile X.cpp then Y.cpp, only Y.cpp will generate the error. Ditto for reversing the order. Has anybody else seen this inexplicable (to me) behavior? Thanks, Greg

uBLAS for signal processing?

I'm looking for a vector/matrix library that is suitable for relatively simple vector maths (+-*/, x=Ax+By) with occasional use of matrices (simple covariance calcs, matrix inversion). My main concerns are being able to optimise for speed by being able to capitalise on vendor-tuned libs on a specific architecture(e.g. MKL, ATLAS ) and maintain portability across a wide range of platforms. I'm looking to support vectors and matrices of types float, double, complex<float> and complex<double>. uBLAS seems to support specification of a storage format that allows me to define/assume an underlying representation of contiguous floats/doubles (with stride info) suitable for typical C-optimised signal processing functions to be applied. (No doubt I will hide the signal processing functions behind an appropriate lightweight interface, but it is important to be able to avoid copies etc and get to hand-tuned FFTs etc that typically are only supplied for C interfaces.) Is uBLAS the right tool for the job? (http://itpp.sourceforge.net provides an idea of where I'd like to see a processing layer end up albeit it is GPL (commercial use a problem) and doesn't have a clear separation between the underlying matrix/vectors and the various types of processing functions) Some other questions and observations: 1) What is the state of the bindings aspect of uBLAS with Atlas et al (or is this a separate project that hasn't got quite the same impetus to it as the main uBLAS development.) 2) Is there any implementation of 'tiny' vectors and matrices that reduces the abstraction penalty of say 3x3 or say 8 element vectors when compared with C. Is this possible/desirable while maintaining the uBLAS interface? 3) At the moment from a users point of view I feel the ublas docs focus heavily on implementation detail and I haven't managed to find too much in the way of simple tutorial information (pointers appreciated) to encourage simplified usage. If uBLAS is the right way forward for me I would be happy to contribute to this documentation effort. (There is mention of newer post 1.32 docs - is this already being addressed?)
