64 bit Project

Hi! I am trying to build a project here with Visual Studio 2008 for a 64 bit platform, but I get a lot errors like the following (building it 32 bit works fine) 1>boosttest.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "private: class boost::basic_regex<char,struct boost::regex_traits<char,class boost::w32_regex_traits<char> > > & __cdecl boost::basic_regex<char,struct boost::regex_traits<char,class boost::w32_regex_traits<char> > >::do_assign(char const *,char const *,unsigned int)" (?do_assign@?$basic_regex@DU?$regex_traits@DV?$w32_regex_traits@D@boost@@@boost@@@boost@@AEAAAEAV12@PEBD0I@Z) Here is what I did to build the libs: bjam msvc architecture=x86 address-model=64 stage bjam msvc architecture=x86 address-model=64 install I tried various versions of the above lines, with other parameters, or written differently e.g. (--toolset=msvc) but the end result did not change. Then I added the c:\boost\include\... and c:\boost\lib dir to (Tools -> Options -> VC++ Directories -> Platform x64 Include and Library files) To simplify the problem I created a new project and created a new Configuration for x64 ----- #include "stdafx.h" #define BOOST_LIB_DIAGNOSTIC #include <boost/regex.hpp> #include <string> int main() { boost::regex pat( "bla" ); } ----- I can build above fine in 32 bit mode, using the same(!) lib folder. Hi all I need to make a filtered graph for each color. I have a graph where the edges are assigned a color (there are many colours). I want to make a filtered graph (for each colour) given a colour. I am a little lost with the filtered graph and edge predicates and do not know how to make one with a colour and a colour-edge map. In the examples I have found it is only the map that is needed in the edgepredicate. [filesystem] Custom memory allocator

All, I'd like to use filesystem::path with a custom memory allocator (I need to allocate and free millions of paths in cycles from multiple threads). As far as I understand only the underlying string type can have a custom allocator. I created these typedefs: typedef basic_string<char, char_traits<char>, tbb::scalable_allocator<char> > fast_string; struct fast_path_traits; typedef fs::basic_path<fast_string, fast_path_traits> fast_path; struct fast_path_traits { typedef fast_string internal_string_type; typedef fast_string external_string_type; static external_string_type to_external( const fast_path &, const internal_string_type & src ) { return src; } static internal_string_type to_internal( const external_string_type & src ) { return src; } }; typedef basic_directory_iterator<fast_path> fast_directory_iterator; Everything compiles until the point where I'd use operations: d = file_size<fast_path>(itr->path()); I get this error under VS2009: error C2770: invalid explicit template argument(s) for 'boost::enable_if<boost::filesystem::is_basic_path<Path>,boost::uintmax_t>::type boost::filesystem::file_size(const Path &)' Please help correcting it. Class from plugin serialization fails

Hi, I'm using boost::serialization to store my data from my application. Everything is working nice, but I just can't store my class loaded from plugin. I know there is a lot of discussion here on this topic, I did read a lot of it. I also looked in /examples and /test directories but I still don't fully understand what exactly should I do... So I have abstract class i main application and derived class in plugin. As I understand it, all I have to do to make it work is: 1) #include <boost/archive/text_oarchive.hpp> #include <boost/archive/text_iarchive.hpp> 2) use BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT macro in plugin_class.cpp but I'm still getting unregistered class exception. Can someone help me please? I know I'm doing something wrong but I can't figure it out. [Test] prevent exceptions from beeing caught

Hi Is there any possibility for boost.test execution_monitor to not to catch exceptions thrown from code that I'm examining in a test case? It's the case with system errors which you can pass from execution monitor outside, to the system for further examination in debugger (--catch_system_errors=n). How am I supposed to do the same with regular exceptions i.e. detect where an exception comes from, if only information I get is something like "unknown location(0): fatal error in testValidate" etc? I would love to have possibility to detect this exception with debugger and print full stack trace, examine variables and so on. Is it possible with boost.test? Regards.

CodeSynthesis XSD is an open-source (GPL2 + proprietary license), cross- platform W3C XML Schema to C++ data binding compiler. [boost-users][proto] Using proto with nvcc

I noticed that fix for ticket #3919 has been checked-in. Thanks JoelF. I checked out boost trunk, and am trying to compile the following simple program using nvcc. #include <boost/proto/proto.hpp> namespace proto=boost::proto; int main() { return 0; } I was getting "ISO C++ forbids declaration of ‘expr_param’ with no type" error in couple of places in proto/traits.hpp and proto/transform/pass_through.hpp. The code used to look like typename pass_through_impl::expr_param e I added a typedef as follows transform_impl<Expr, State, Data> base_type; and changed the code to typename base_type::expr_param e Now the compiler error goes away. I have 2 questions : 1) Is what I am doing the right fix for the problem, or is the nvcc compiler really broken when handling this? 2) If my fix is OK, how do I make it permanent? The other error I am seeing is probably not proto's problem, but I will mention it here anyway : boost/boost-trunk/boost/mpl/size_t_fwd.hpp:23: error: expected unqualified-id before ‘[’ token boost/boost-trunk/boost/mpl/size_t_fwd.hpp:26: error: ‘mpl_::size_t’ has not been declared boost/boost-trunk/boost/mpl/aux_/integral_wrapper.hpp:42: error: expected unqualified-id before ‘[’ token Any ideas on this? Build errors with boost 1.42.0 under MinGW

I am having problems building boost 1.42.0 using MinGW. The bootstrap.sh script only works if I specify 'mingw' as the toolset. The resulting bjam tool doesn't work though. It doesn't seem to support mingw as a toolset, but I am unable to force it to use something else. I am using WinXP SP3, MinGW GCC 3.4.5. Just running ./bootstrap.sh yields: $ ./bootstrap.sh Building Boost.Jam with toolset gcc... Failed to build Boost.Jam Consult 'bootstrap.log' for more details The log contents are at the bottom of this email. Hi All, I'd like to start by thanking all of the students who are interested in working on the Boost C++ Libraries and submitted proposals. Unfortunately, we can't fund every proposal we received (about 85), and the competition for available funding slots (only 10) is very competitive. We carefully reviewed every proposal based on the merits and feasibility of the work described. If your proposal was not accepted, that does not mean that it was without merit. We encourage all students to continue participating with the Boost community as users and developers, regardless of the results of this program, and look forward to seeing new proposals next year. If you are interested in feedback about your proposal's review and how you can improve the competitiveness of your submissions, feel free to contact me directly. Having said that, congratulations to the students whose projects were accepted. Multi-array non-preserving resize?

I'd like to use a multi_array<double, 2> inside a loop, but the dimensions may be different each time. Now, I could create a new one on each iteration, but I'd prefer to avoid the extra allocations/frees if I can. I also could create it outside the loop and use resize(), but that promises to preserve elements if possible, and that's extra copying I don't need (presumably; I'm assuming here that an underlying 1D memory layout is used, which means that preserving elements after the first row would require moving things around). Is there any simple way to ask a multi_array to resize itself without preserving elements?

I tried something like this: First, the general form in one header known by everything: template <typename T1, typename T2> dim_s foo (const T1& left, const T2& right); Then, in a header that gets more concrete, provide its own form that is meant to be used when objects of those types are involved: template<typename T1, typename T2> typename enable_if_c< is_base_of<genericbase,T1>::value && is_base_of<genericbase,T2>::value, dim_s>::type foo (const T1& left, const T2& right); Here, the template defined in this header derives from genericbase, so I have a hook to say "all types derived from any specialization of this template". Now, this actually causes an ambiguity. The latter is not a specialization but a peer overloading, and when both are present, both are templates that form exact matches and template arguments at the least restrictive way to refer to the type. This function is already internal plumbing, so I don't mind it being a little messy to use. What I'm really doing is multimethod dispatch: various concrete classes, generic versions for making such, and special combinations all have their own efficient logic, with a fallback (slow) that always works. And I want all the plumbing to disappear at compile time so it efficiently calls the efficient function. So if I'm really guilty of the "X for Y" problem, that is what I'm really trying to do, and if there are any suggestions on doing that better in general, please let'em rip. As for the road I'm on now, the simplest thing is to somehow give each form a priority. I did that by adding a 3rd parameter. The general form declares a void*, and the specialized form declares an int. The caller always gives a zero. I'm wondering what is the longest chain of different priorities I can use with this method, using only compiler primitive types that the optimizer should be able to toss when the function is inlined. I know I could use dummy classes with any number of derivations, but I'm thinking I can get several levels just using primitive types. Any suggestions? Boost Interval Arithmetic Library: msvc_rounding_control.hpp broken in 64 bit msvc?

Hello, When using the boost interval library we get a run-time assertion failure in debug with 64 bit Visual Studio 2005 and up. In file msvc_rounding_control.hpp, the function set_rounding_mode(..) calls _control87(..) which in debug will cause an assert to fail. According to microsoft documentation: "On the x64 architecture, changing the floating-point precision is not supported. If the precision control mask is used on that platform, the invalid parameter handler is invoked, as described in Parameter Validation." Run-time library reference: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/e9b52ceh%28VS.80%29.aspx Visual Studio 2010 documentation: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/c9676k6h.aspx In release the invalid parameter handler is not invoked so the code runs without complaining, but the rounding-mode is of course not changed. If that leaves the stored path with one or more trailing *slash * elements not representing *root-directory*, remove them. Seems to me that remove_filename() does NOT remove trailing slashes as stated. - Rob.

I am writing a DLL that gets injected into another process, and creates pointers to the target processes functions. The target process uses all 3 calling conventions, __stdcall, __fastcall and __cdecl. [MPL] Proposal for runtime_contains_if algorithm submission

Hello everyone. Currently only one runtime algorithm is available in MPL: for_each. I suggest to add another one: runtime_contains_if. The problem is searching through the sequence of types and find that one which satisfies some runtime predicate. Sample task: Given some base abstract class: struct base { virtual ~base(){} }; The implementation of the base could be one of the following classes: struct child1 : public base {}; struct child2 : public base {}; struct child3 : public base {}; struct child4 : public base {}; struct child5 : public base {}; Now suppose you have "base* b" and you need to find out if its concrete type is either child3 or child4 (in practise the set of types to check could be larger). I propose the following solution: 1. You write a predicate similar to STL contains_if but with template type in operator(). The concept is the same as in boost::mpl::for_each. struct child_detector { base* base_; child_detector( base* b ) : base_( b ) {} template< typename Derived_ > bool operator()( Derived_* ) { return ( 0 != dynamic_cast< Derived_* >( base_ ) ); } }; 2. [Install] Am I doing something silly....?

Hi Guys Despite having used Boost for quite while I'm doing my first install of Boost on a Linux box and don't seem to be getting it right! This should be straight forward, using all the defaults. Specifically this is Fedora 11 (64-bit), with gcc 4.4.1 and Boost 1.42, and I don't have write permission for /usr/local, so... > ./bootstrap.sh --prefix=/home/rjones/thirdparty/boost/boost_1_42_0 .... > ./bjam install 2>&1 | tee bjam.log There's A LOT of noise, lots of warnings, some errors, and finally cp: cannot create regular file `/usr/local/lib/libboost_wave.a': Permission denied cp "bin.v2/libs/wave/build/gcc-4.4.1/release/link-static/threading-multi/libboost_wave.a" "/usr/local/lib/libboost_wave.a" ...failed common.copy /usr/local/lib/libboost_wave.a... ...failed updating 98 targets... ...skipped 7732 targets... ...updated 674 targets... I've attached the logfile begin and end (it's huge!). Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks, Rob.

Compiling specific modules

Dear Friends, I'm sorry if this is a stupid question... however, I want to compile boost but only specific parts of it. Is this possible? I'm already using --build-type=minimal - but I want to compile libraries for exactly what I'm using so it doesn't take so long for cross platform compilation. Is there some documentation somewhere? [BGL] Examples missing in the documentation

Dear all, I have noticed that the following two examples have are missing in the BGL online documentation: example/exterior_edge_properties.cpp example/bellman_ford.cpp (I spotted these in the following page: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_42_0/libs/graph/doc/using_property_maps.html) Strangely enough, they apparently don't exist in the entire Boost website either (Google doesn't find them). phoenix function problem

Hi, in the example attached, the 1st test case fails on runtime: test_phoenix_fcn.cpp(105): test 'at_c<0>( rlc ) && at_c<1>( rlc ) && at_c<2>( rlc )' failed in function 'int main(int, char**)' test_phoenix_fcn: /home/olaf/Projects/programming/cpp/boost/trunk/boost/optional/optional.hpp:591: typename boost::optional_detail::optional_base<T>::reference_type boost::optional<T>::get() [with T = double]: Assertion `this->is_initialized()' failed. Aborted the 2nd (with defined WANT_TO_HAVE) doesn't compile. This is the goal. Where is my misunderstanding here? To to get it working correctly? Thanks, Olaf

Boost.Fusion compilation error gcc 4.4.3 in boost/fusion/include/make_unfused_generic.hpp

I have an up-to-date Archlinux system with a standard gcc 4.4.3. I wish to use a library that in turn uses Boost.Fusion. I get compilation errors for Boost.Fusion 1.41 and 1.42 (version 1.40 and 1.37 are ok). Simple test program to reproduce: #include <boost/fusion/include/make_unfused_generic.hpp> #include <iostream> int main() { std::cout << "Hello world"; } The first error that I get is: boost/fusion/functional/adapter/unfused_generic.hpp:54 error: a function call cannot appear in a constant-expression boost/fusion/functional/adapter/unfused_generic.hpp:54 error: template argument 1 is invalid Google has not helped me to resolve my problems. Hmmm . . . actually, as I've been poking around, I think I've I found some more explanations elsewhere which, if I'm understanding them correctly, indicate that (a) I've misunderstood what an upgrade_lock does, but also that (b) my code shouldn't be subject to* *the deadlocks you're describing (though it's clearly susceptible to others :-). The key (which isn't clearly noted in the documentation) is that an upgrade_lock is like a unique_lock in that only one upgrade_lock can be held at a time. (I was thinking it was more like a shared_lock, in that multiple instances of it could be held at the same time, but Anthony Williams indicates that's not the case: http://groups.google.mv/group/boost-list/msg/2c93110e9e3dbb45.) This means that the behavior in my code could go something like: - transmit() acquires shared_lock. - createRoom() acquires upgrade_lock. - deleteRoom() attempts to acquire upgrade_lock and blocks (because of the upgrade_lock held by createRoom()). - createRoom() attempts to upgrade to a unique_lock and blocks (because of the shared_lock held by transmit()). - transmit() releases shared_lock. - createRoom() successfully upgrades to a unique_lock. (deleteRoom() is still blocked because createRoom() already has an upgrade_lock) - transmit() attempts to acquire shared_lock and blocks. - createRoom() releases unique lock. - deleteRoom() successfully acquires upgrade_lock. - transmit() successfully acquires shared_lock. - life goes on Now, if transmit() were regularly taking longer than 20 ms to complete, so that it was regularly being called reentrantly, I could imagine that it would build up a pretty good backlog of shared locks, which would prevent createRoom() and deleteRoom() from acquiring their *unique* locks. But if I'm understanding this correctly, I can't think of a scenario that would result in the behavior I'm seeing, i.e., both the createRoom() and deleteRoom() methods blocking each other while attempting to acquire an upgrade_lock. (Since no other unique or upgrade locks appear to be held elsewhere at the time.) That said, I'm reasonably new to multithreading, and I'm still having to think through these issues, so I might be missing something. (Actually, I clearly am, I'm just trying to figure out what it is :-). Troubleshooing deadlock with upgrade_lock<shared_mutex>

I'm a C++/boost newbie, so my apologies if this is a basic question. I've got a multithreaded app that appears to be deadlocking when two threads are trying to acquire an upgrade_lock<shared_mutex> at the same time. Specifically, I've got a class that looks something like this: #include <boost/thread.hpp> using namespace boost; class Manager { public: Manager(); ~Manager(); void createRoom(); void deleteRoom(); void transmit(); private: shared_mutex roomManagersMutex; }; void Manager::createRoom() { upgrade_lock<shared_mutex> upgradeLock(roomManagersMutex); // Read stuff if(roomShouldBeCreated) { upgrade_to_unique_lock<shared_mutex> uniqueLock(upgradeLock); // Create room } } void Manager::deleteRoom() { upgrade_lock<shared_mutex> upgradeLock(roomManagersMutex); // Read stuff if (roomShouldBeDeleted) { upgrade_to_unique_lock<shared_mutex> uniqueLock(upgradeLock); // Delete the room } } void Manager::transmit() { shared_lock<shared_mutex> lock(roomManagersMutex); // Read stuff about the room } The Manager::deleteRoom() and Manager::createRoom() methods are typically only called once every few seconds, but Manager::transmit() is called every 20 milliseconds or so, i.e., about 50 times / second. Periodically, the app stops responding. When it does, I can see that the transmit() method is working fine, but the createRoom() and deleteRoom() methods (on separate threads, obviously) appear to be deadlocked on the highlighted lines, waiting to acquire their upgrade_locks. Now that seems weird to me, because I thought the whole purpose of the upgrade locks was that they're supposed to be shared, right up until you request an upgrade to a unique lock. Obviously the code is more complex than what I've described, but it doesn't appear that there's a unique lock being held anywhere when the deadlock happens. Am I doing something wrong? Why I cannot access the first element (it works if I give an initial value, for instance using tuple<int, double> t2(1); I get a similar error if I use the method get<N>() instead of the function. I am having troubles figuring out how to use write_graphml from the documentation. My problem is in creating the dynamic_property. To access my vertex properties i use this: VERTEXPROPERTIES& properties(const Vertex& v) { typename property_map<GraphContainer, vertex_properties_t>::type param = get(vertex_properties, graph); return param[v]; } where VERTEXPROPERTIES is a type of a structure that i use for vertex properties. how would i go about creating a dynamic_property from that property map? [Range] non-const range reference

I'm not able to use the latest Boost release, so I've plagarised some little bits that are useful, and in the process might have missed something, so bear with me. I can fix this by adding a const ref overload of for_each, but no such overload exists in the real boost range header (AFAIK). Returning containers by value seems to be the 'right way' now, as RVO should sort out the copy elision. What I'm doing in this code seems reasonable - should it be supported by const ref overloads, or have I missed some 'gotcha' somewhere? Thanks, - Rob.

We tend to store the names of our options in strings (so we can reuse them later when getting the values out of the variable map). But option_descriptions can only be created from const char *, so we need to add a .c_str() when building the options_description. Is there any reason why options can't be constructed with a string? time_t to ptime conversion problem

While doing some testing I've come across what I consider a bug in the boost::posix::from_time_t function. I'm running this on Visual studio 2005 due to needing to deal with some legacy code. I'm using boost v 1.39 - Issue is that if you create a time_t representing a date after Jan 18 2038 using standard functions, when the time_t is loaded into the ptime it's rolling back to 1901. In Visual studio 2005, time_t is 64 bit. Example code: #include <boost/date_time/posix_time/posix_time.hpp> #include <boost/date_time/posix_time/time_parsers.hpp> int main() { struct tm timeStruct; boost::posix_time::ptime boostTime; time_t timeVal; memset(&timeStruct, 0, sizeof(timeStruct)); timeStruct.tm_year = 138; timeStruct.tm_mon = 0; timeStruct.tm_mday = 18; timeVal = mktime(&timeStruct); std::cout << timeVal << std::endl; boostTime = boost::posix_time::from_time_t(timeVal); std::cout << boostTime << std::endl; memset(&timeStruct, 0, sizeof(timeStruct)); timeStruct.tm_year = 138; timeStruct.tm_mon = 0; timeStruct.tm_mday = 19; timeVal = mktime(&timeStruct); std::cout << timeVal << std::endl; boostTime = boost::posix_time::from_time_t(timeVal); std::cout << boostTime << std::endl; return 0; } which outputs: 2147403600 2038-Jan-18 05:00:00 2147490000 1901-Dec-13 22:31:44 which is not quite the result I was hoping for. Hi all I'm trying to use spirit in order to make a parser for a simple language. Last time i had to do this I was in school (some more than 15 years ago). I managed to do something that works but it does not handle "balanced parentheses". I know this is a common problem but after having look for every possible way of spelling "balanced parentheses" I did not find anything (that I could understand). The files I want to parse are made of ASCII char. They can contains commands that should be interpreted (replacement). Commands always start with "^!" (command switch). An example of a file content: text text text ^!for-each( A )( B ) text text text text I want to send the "text" strings to the std::cout and detect the commands "^!for-each( A )( B )" in order to process them. At the moment I only have one command "for-each" Where: A : is a query that can contain /'" and balanced () B : is the text to be sent to output for each result of the query. This can be a 'script' meaning text + commands, for example: aa bb ^!for-each(C)(D) tt yy uu therefore B can also contain balanced (). The rules, I wrote does not handled balanced () very well. [date_time] Formating overall lacking in flexibility & functionality?

Sorry for being a bit of a douche, but I find the formatting options in date_time lacking and would like to see what others think. We have a use case that I think displays some of the shortcomings. We have a time duration stored as an int representing the number of miliseconds. When displaying the time duration we want to use MM:SS,FFF, padding with 0s in order to get them to line up nicely. First problem here is it's not possible to control the number of fractions, we use substr to remove the last 3 unwanted digits, this however naturally doesn't respect rounding. The second problem is that it doesn't seem to be possible to control the padding, ( although this isn't a problem for our use case ). Another problem is that it doesn't seem to be possible to format a time_duration directly, the only solution which I've been able to find is to construct an arbitrary valid date and keep the time part at zero. This seems both unnecessary and imposes restrictions if one were interested in actually measuring and format long durations of time. I also think formatting a date time is often unnecessary verbose. [Boost MPI] : Point to Point Communication

Hi Everyone, I am trying to send a user-defined structure named ABC using boost::mpi::send () call. The given struct contains a vector "data" whose size is determined at runtime. Objects of struct ABC are sent by master to slaves. But the slaves need to know the size of vector "data" so that the sufficient buffer is available on the slave to receive this data. I can work around it by sending the size first and initialize sufficient buffer on the slave before receiving the objects of struct ABC. But that defeats the whole purpose of using STL containers. Does anyone know of a better way to do handle this ? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Here is a sample code that describes the intent of my program. I search the mailing list and bugs and found out that the bug is really old and the patches are suggested that solves the problem. problem linking

I am having a problem linking with boost program options on windows with msvs. No mater what I specify on the command line, cl tries to ling with 'libboost_program_options-vc90-mt-s-1_42.lib'. When I built the boost libraries it built 'libboost_program_options-vc90-mt-1_42.lib', 'libboost_program_options-vc90-mt.lib', 'libboost_program_options-vc90-mt-gd-1_42.lib', and 'libboost_program_options-vc90-mt-gd.lib', but not 'libboost_program_options-vc90-mt-s-1_42.lib'. I have tried to tell cl to link with one of the libraries that was build, but it still links with 'libboost_program_options-vc90-mt-s-1_42.lib' regardless of what I specify on the command line. serialization of unordered_map

I am struggling with getting serialization to work with unordered_map. I have found someone else's header file for that purpose and modified it so the compilation goes through without errors, however I'm getting segfault when attempting to run the executable. [BGL] graph serialization

Dear all, I have a graph with edge property is a smart pointer to myEdge class. I want to save my graph and choose the serialization option. Saving the graph seems to work (if exporter to a text file I can see that information is there). Unfortunately, loading the graph fails as no edges are loaded. In facts, the edge data is loaded (if I stop the debugger to the edge serialization info seems to come) but not added to the graph. In file adj_list_serialize.hpp Ln 95: tie(e,inserted) = add_edge(verts[u], verts[v], graph); Boolean "inserted" is true but still no edge is added to my graph m_edges array (size keep to be 0). I was wandering if it's because I am using smart pointer as my edge property and that while saving doesn't require memory allocation for the edge smart pointer, loading will. Would it be possible that this step is skip? How could I fixed it? Did anyone faced the same problem My graph is a adjacency list and I did add the definition BOOST_SERIALIZATION_SHARED_PTR for myEdge class. Thank you very much Damien

Boost TR1 sub-package

I am interested specifically in the TR1 stuff and not the rest of Boost and it seems that using Boost-TR1 would be the most portable way to use TR1 since not all compiler vendors have a TR1 implementation ready yet. Error with GCC and TR1 (error: no include path in which to search for tr1/type_traits)

Hi, I'm using GCC 4.4 with Boost 1.40, and I've recently came across a library which uses tr1/tuple. The problem I'm running into now is that I include <boost/tr1/tuple.hpp>, and it does not include <tr1/tuple>, but rather pulls in the Boost implementation -- which gives me compile errors like /usr/include/boost/tr1/tuple.hpp:63: error: ‘tuple’ is already declared in this scope /usr/include/boost/tr1/tuple.hpp:72: error: ‘tuple_size’ is already declared in this scope /usr/include/boost/tr1/tuple.hpp:73: error: ‘tuple_element’ is already declared in this scope So I'd really like to pull in the TR1 implementation from the compiler, to avoid these collisions. In order to fix this, I tried to define BOOST_HAS_GCC_TR1 as specified in the docs -- without success, I'm getting now /usr/include/boost/tr1/type_traits.hpp:13:49: error: no include path in which to search for tr1/type_traits As described in the docs, I added several more defines: DBOOST_HAS_GCC_TR1 BOOST_TR1_DISABLE_INCLUDE_NEXT=1 BOOST_TR1_GCC_INCLUDE_PATH=/usr/include/c++/4.4/ without success, I'm still getting the "no include path" error. I'm using the system boost, which is installed in /usr/include/boost; and I'd really like to keep using it. Is there any other way to force Boost to pick up the compiler's TR1 library? [Review] [ITL] ITL formal review results

Hi all, The formal review of the Interval Template Library (ITL) written by Joachim Faulhaber started February 18th and ended March 7th, 2010. We saw a lively discussion resulting in 14 votes: 10 people voted unconditionally YES, 3 voted conditionally YES, and 1 reviewer voted NO. The overwhelming majority of the votes was YES which reflects the overall discussion and the general consensus of this library being worth to be included into Boost. Based on this result and the discussions we saw the Interval Template Library is now formally accepted into Boost. Detailed results ---------------- Pros: Almost all reviewers highlighted the general usefulness of the library. The more experience the reviewers had with the library in real world applications the more they emphasized its usefulness. Here are some quotes: - "ITL solved this problem for me, in a way that honestly freed me from having to think about a lot of the unsavory low-level details." - " Until now, we only used the library for intervals of date-times (coded as integers), but I'm sure, that its usefulness goes far beyond." - " Very useful. I mentioned two projects where the library would have helped me if it had been into Boost earlier, and I'm considering rewriting them such that the problems make use of the library, and simplify them in that way." The comments on the quality of the documentation are unanimous: "impressive and quite complete", "I couldn't ask for more". It seemed to be generally helpful to understand the concepts of the library and to get started. Some people asked to add more simple quick-start examples to the documentation and the distribution. Overall, the library is mature and easy to use. All reviewers actually utilizing the ITL library for real world use cases reported they were able to start quickly and without problems. All reviewers using ITL in real world applications stated that no performance problems were encountered. This is important to note as the NO vote was based on the current lack of a interval tree implementation, which was considered to result in suboptimal performance for certain use cases. Cons: Some aspects of the design have been criticized: "OO-type design decisions", "fat 'one size fits all'-interval class template", and "incomplete extraction of global functions" are the major points of critique. These points have real merit. In order to make the design and interface more flexible and more durable these have to be rectified before the final inclusion of the library into Boost's code base. Joachim already agreed to a list of things to change addressing those problems. For certain use cases, specifically for interval map of collections, the current implementation has suboptimal complexity characteristics that leads to O(n^2) space usage in the worst case. OTOH, for the majority of applications of the library the worst case scenario seems to be (reportedly) irrelevant. This issue has been discussed at length and Joachim plans to add an implementation with a better worst case performance of the affected class templates as later optimizations. This is not considered to be a precondition to full inclusion into Boost's code base as it is not anticipated to cause any interface changes. Last but not least people suggested to change the name of the library as having the word template in the name does not carry any useful information. Joachim already agreed to this. Later, it will be called again. My questions are therefore: 1. If boost::serialization provides some hook functions for this purpose (I didn't find anything in documentation and via google either) 2. [date_time] Formating a posix::time_duration

I have a racing time in miliseconds which I'd like to apply formatting to, I can't seem to get it to work using posix::time_duration and what I'd think is the appropriate time_facet ( it produces the same results as the default facet ). Looking at posix_time_io.hpp I see the following comment: "// todo fix to use facet -- place holder for now...", leading me to believe that there's perhaps no way to apply the formating strings to a time_duration yet? We want to present our times as MM:SS,FFF.

[GIL] Premultiplications when using color_convert

Hi all, I am working on rgba32f view that have alpha values of 0. I need to apply a color_convert but it drops the values because of the 0 alpha valued. How can I disable alpha premultiplication ? I attach to this mail the original flex/bison based parser, that I wrote some years ago, and the one developed with Spirit. It seems that parsing doesn't start () but I don't understand why that happens, I've tryied several ways without success. Help me, please. I'm going crazy!! Hello, Here's a summary of my problem: My original fully functioning grammar was this: start %= (constitkind >> id >> ':' >> id >> probs) % ","; // WORKS where - constitkind exposes unsigned, - id exposes string, - probs exposes a list of doubles, - start exposes a list of constituent structures (Is that jargon acceptable?) It recognizes strings such as a:b, foo:bar [ 0.00 ], extraposed x:y [ 0.00, 0.50, 0.99, 1.0 ], optional z:a [ 0.00, 0.50, 0.99, 1.0 ] I wanted to replace the grammar with this (note the expectation points which replace sequence operators): start %= (constitkind > id > ':' > id >> probs) % ","; // FAILS That won't compile. All I can glean from the error report is that I've induced a type mismatch. What's wrong? I got as far as this by thrashing: start %= (constitkind >> (id > ':') >> id >> probs) % ","; // WORKS Why do the parentheses in (id > ':') permit compilation? Compiler's telling me a Boost class isn't a class.

Hi all. Just started using Boost, and these three lines (which compile in another project) fail here: // Get a list of endpoints corresponding to the server name. tcp::resolver theResolver(boost::asio::io_service); tcp::resolver::query query("10.10.10.10", "http"); tcp::resolver::iterator endpoint_iterator = theResolver.resolve(query); The compiler gripes thus: error: request for member 'resolve' in 'theResolver', which is of non-class type 'boost::asio::ip::basic_resolver<boost::asio::ip::tcp, boost::asio::ip::resolver_service<boost::asio::ip::tcp> > ()(boost::asio::io_service)' "using boost::asio::ip::tcp;" appears in an earlier included file. I don't see why this would work elsewhere and not here. Anybody have a guess as to what the problem is? Thanks!

UTF : capturing asserts

Hi, Just started using the BOOST unit test framework. I have legacy code that exercises asserts. This resided on both a linux and windows platform. Using 1.42 release of boost. Is there a method in which to capture assert so as to pass a test ( like BOOST_REQUIRE_THROW)? It is either that, compile code without debug on ( which I wouldn't want to do if debugging) or replace all asserts which would be painful considering it is legacy code. Inconsistent dll linkage trying to use boost/test as dll

I'm a newbie, and I'm trying to get the most basic example unit test up and running. The following works: #define BOOST_TEST_MAIN #include <boost/test/included/unit_test.hpp> BOOST_AUTO_TEST_CASE(my_test) { BOOST_CHECK_EQUAL(4, 4); } However, it takes a while to compile, so I want to use the DLL version of the library. [boost.test] 0 return code with expected failures?

Hi, I have a binary that runs unit tests, 3 tests fail and these tests I have marked as being expected failures after analysis. The binary however produces a non-zero exit code even with these tests marked as expected failures . Is there a way to have the binary return a zero exit code when all the failures are expected and non-zero when some other non-expected failure happens? BOOST_HAS_RVALUE_REFERENCES and Visual Studio 2010 support

As I see Boost C++ Libraries (1.42) doesn't support rvalue references under Visual C++ 10.0 (Visual Studio 2010) - there is no definition of BOOST_HAS_RVALUE_REFERENCES (and BOOST_NO_RVALUE_REFERENCES too) for Visual C++ 10.0. Does anybody know why it is so and when will it be supported? (and will it be so?) Regards, Marat.

SVG Graphics - to be supported by IE9 - Boost GSoC project?

Some may remember that Jake Voytko worked on a SVG graphic plotting package during a 2007 GSoC - dubbed Boost.Plot. In July 2009, I announced that this was available for people to 'try out' - it seems in a usable condition. Although several people made some kind remarks about it, I sensed that the 'killer' feature was using SVG SVG was *NOT supported 'out-of-the-box'* by Microsoft IE (including 8, to my surprise, and disappointment). It now seems that Microsoft have 'seen' the light' and promise that IE 9 will provide good and portable support for SVG. http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2010/03/18/svg-in-ie9-roadmap.aspx They have finally realised the 'small is beautiful' applies to graphics - especially now that many are being displayed on phones with limited speed links. SVG graphics need a tiny amount of code, especially when compressed, and can be expanded without 'going all pixelly'. Boost.Plot is special in that it is in C++ and it has a Boost license. It allows you to add just a few lines of code to the end of your C++ program to take data from any STL container (all or part) and produce a plot as a Scale Vector Graph (.svg) file. So it is already suited to sending near real-time plots to phones. BUT while Boost.Plot provides zillions of functions to TechniColor your XY plots, it doesn't do much to help produce other displays - even things as simple as pie charts. And the underlying SVG interface functions are perhaps rudimentary. So I wonder if there is any enthusiasm for a Google Summer of Code project for NEXT summer 2011 to get this into a reviewable state? (Sadly I think we have just missed GSoC for this year). Has anyone successfully used boost with gcc 4.5.0 (mingw) ?

Hi, My code was running fine with gcc 4.4.0, Mingw and boost. I changed to gcc. 4.5.0 and though it compiles okay it crashes when I try to run my tests. Has anyone successfully used boost with gcc 4.5.0 (mingw) ? Thanks, -- Mauricio Gomes

[This question is about Boost.program_options library.] When I want to print options summary (e.g., for --help) I do this: cout << optionsDesc where optionsDesc is: boost::program_options::options_description optionsDesc; The output is correct, but how to format it? It looks bad: --mode arg [must be set] [........] mode: 'f' to gener ate file, or 'x' to fix file, or 'p' to gen erate ... Option descriptions are too narrow, and some words are broken right in the middle. (There is a big gap here between "mode" and its description because other option names are quite long.) It would be nice to be able to print wider option descriptions or maybe option descriptions *below* option names and somewhat indented (instead of to the right). Are there any formatting options?
