Does the initialization form I showed earlier, e.g. std::vector<record_type> newvec= list_of().range(RecVec.begin(),db).range(newdata).range(de,RecVec.end()); know to get the total length first, or will it keep re-allocating storage with each underlying insertion? That is, do I get a performance benifit from manually doing: std::vector<record_type> newvec; newvec.reserve (... add up the sizes of my three ranges ...) newvec += range(RecVec.begin(),db).range(newdata).range(de,RecVec.end()); Hmm, I'm sure the last line would be somewhat different. This is my first time reaching for the Assign library, but I'm insprired by what I've seen discussed here in the list. I'm creating a vector from three ranges. So something like: std::vector<record_type> newvec= list_of().range(a,b).range(c,d).range(e,f); would be right? The tutorial doesn't show anything where the stuff begins with a range, only stuff in the list_of(). But I'm thinking I have to start with list_of, even if it's empty, to kick it off, right? I'm hoping that correctly kicks it off but doesn't add default elements! Next question: the range c,d is going to be a whole vector. That is, the V.begin(), V.end() pair from another object. Can I just name V alone? Hi, How can I interpret and use the error_code in my application? As an example my ASIO async_read "handler function" receives one argument as error, as shown below void MyClass::AsyncReadHandler(const boost::system::error_code& error,std::size_t bytes_transferred) { } How can I inrterpret the "error" in a meaningful way? error.message() returns the meaning of the error and and error.value() returns an integer code associated with the error. OpenMPI cannot get the results from workers

Dear All : I designed a master-worker framework, in which the master can schedulemultiple tasks (numTaskPerWorkerNode) to each worker and then collects results from workers. if the numTaskPerWorkerNode = 1, it works well. But, if numTaskPerWorkerNode > 1, the master cannot get the results from workers. But, the workers can get the tasks from master. why ? I have used different taskTag to distinguish the tasks, but still does not work. Any help is appreciated. [Boost.Uuid] Passing UUIDs with MPI

Hello, I'm having troubles trying to pass a uuid with MPI routines. Since a uuid is serialized as a primitive type, I was expecting it could be declared as an MPI datatype using: BOOST_IS_MPI_DATATYPE(boost::uuids::uuid) and sent via MPI routines. I've written a short program to illustrate the problem. [date_time] How to parse "5th" into day of month?

Hi all, I'm a bit stuck with the date_time module. I found a few examples (ironically from bug reports) since I couldn't find any on the Boost documentation site, as I am trying to parse a string in the format "Fri 5th March 2010, 05:01pm" into a boost::gregorian::date structure. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to get it to recognise "5th". It works fine if the day is two digits, but for a single digit it returns the error "Day of month value is out of range 1..31" My date string is "%a %e.. %B %Y" (not sure if the ".." is correct but it was the only way I could get it to ignore the "th" after the day - again, I couldn't find anything about doing that in the docs.) Does anyone know whether it's possible to parse a date with a single digit day in it? Some of the docs hint that it's possible and give sample dates in that format, but they don't include the matching format specifiers to use. Now STL has the value_type declarations for all containers, but for tuples is there a documented way to get the type of a tuple member ? Or the type of the tuple<>::get<>() function ? Some results for planar graph coloring algorithm

I have uploaded Planar6_July3.tz to http://groups.google.com/group/graph_coloring_program (README_July3) . It contains 100 maximal planar graphs of 50 vertices each. The graphs were generated using LEDA's function maximal_planar_graph(graph, number_of_vertices). I applied my graph coloring program "pl" in batch mode (using a perl script) to a directory containing the 100 graphs and it succeeded in finding a proper 4 coloring for EVERY SINGLE GRAPH. Average solution time per graph - about 1 second, of which a large part was probably disk read/writes. Does anyone have a favorite planar graph of <= 50 vertices that I can try my algorithm on? 50 vertices is not very large, but soon I hope to try graphs of 60, 70 or more vertices. I ran fr_layout on the 100 graphs but the resulting layout was not very clear. I think what I really need is a layout on a sphere and a way to look at the sphere from any angle. Does anyone know of such a thing. In the not too distant future I hope to be looking at graphs of up to 100 vertices. Anything but a spherical layout i believe would be too messy. vector iterator element-wise operation

[proto] : Recursive functions in a lambda like language

I was playing with the idea of having the user declare functions (polymorphic, possibly recursive) in a lambda like language, and the capability to later call that function with different types of arguments. Here is an example of what I am thinking about. function fib = if_(_1<2) [ _1 ].else_[fib(_1-1) + (_1-2)]; int x = fib.eval(10); How should I define the "function" class? My first attempt at a solution was to use "boost::any" like class for function, I overloaded operator() in that class so that it returns a proto expression. I am attaching some source code that has a function class and a phoenix like language. Now, I am not able to come up with a solution for defining a polymorphic eval() for the function class. Since "function" has to be able to store any type inside it, it has to do type erasure. All methods in "function" has to be delegated to value_base class but that cannot delegate a polymorphic eval() function down to value_type. I can templatize "function" class and get monomorphic functions defined in this language. But that is less interesting. I would greatly appreciate any advice and suggestions on other solutions to this problem. I realize that this is not entirely proto specific and maybe it is a general C++ language question, but I am hoping proto users might have faced similar problems and provide guidance. The various command prompts are in "Visual Studio Tools" under your compiler in the Start menu. The --layout=system option gives you libs and dlls with no boost version or compiler version in the filenames. The SSCA code is trying to declare an explicit property_map type for the vertex_owner and vertex_local maps. I can think of several ways to get around this, the simplest is probably to play some dispatching game to get the compiler to generate the types for me. If that didn't work I'd probably have to take a closer look at the filtered_graph and distributed CSR code. Do you actually need the SSCA code for anything? As a benchmark it's pretty much dead. The failure of this test doesn't affect the rest of the library. It should only be an issue if you want to run betweenness centrality on filtered graphs. I'll add the fact that betweenness centrality doesn't work with filtered graphs in 0.7.0 to my list of bugs, but I'm in the middle of a big rewrite of the library at the moment. Let me know if this is a blocking issue for you and I'll try to carve out some free time to address it in the near term. Hi, I try to build a covariance matrix. I have installed and linked LAPACK and ATLAS with boost and use the boost numerical bindings. For the covariance I need a matrix command like cov on http://www.mathworks.com/access/helpdesk/help/techdoc/ref/cov.html I don't find an example in the boost documentation. Is there a command for matrix data? Is there any documentation with example for using LAPACK and boost? I have only found http://mathema.tician.de/node/391 but I can understand it better with examples Thanks for help Phil

Dear All: With boost MPI, I trying to ask some worker nodes to send some message to the single master node. I am using OpenMPI 1.3.4. I use an array recvArray[row][column] to receive the message, which is a C++ class that contain int, member functions. But I got an error of terminate called after throwing an instance of 'boost::exception_detail::clone_impl<boost::exception_detail::error_info_injector<boost::mpi::exception> >' what(): MPI_Test: MPI_ERR_TRUNCATE: message truncated[n124:126639] *** Process received signal ***[n124:126639] Signal: Aborted (6)[n124:126639] Signal code: (-6) It seems that the master cannot find enough space for the receicved message. But, I have decleared the recvArray<calssPackage> , which is a vector with element as my received class package. The error is very wierd. When I open the recvied package, the elements are not expected numbers buy only some very large or small numbers. Any help is appreciated. Can someone please come up with appropriate BLL magic to resolve this situation? It seems to me, I'd somehow have to dereference bll:_1.

boost::iterator_facade and std::find

I'm having some issues with boost::iterator_facade iterators and the std::find template. I've reproduced the error using the example code from the boost documentation (the linked list tutorial). The only difference between this implementation and the one provided is a dereference value of Value* instead of Value&. The template error seems to indicate find is looking for a reference as the value argument. Boost Test with multiple processes (MPI)

Does anyone have a solution for writing unit tests with Boost Test that run in multiple processes? I am using MPI, but I think the same problem would appear in other multi-process situations. I need some way to collect whether, e.g., BOOST_CHECK, has passed. Here's a schematic view of the problem. I want my "example" test to fail because should_be_true is false on process 1. It looks to me like I have a function to handle this. I don't understand where boost::typed_identity_property_map<size_t> is coming from. 2. graph_concepts.hpp:408: error: no matching function for call to ‘put(boost::edge_weight_t, ImplicitRingGraph&, Edge&, size_t&)’ I didn't write any put() functions so I understand why I'm getting this. However, I would like the edge weights to be readable but not writeable (myEdgeWeightMap models a ReadablePropertyMap), and I can't figure out how to specify the read-only property in the graph defintion. 3. graph_concepts.hpp:390: error: no matching function for call to ‘get(boost::edge_weight_t, const ImplicitRingGraph&)’ graph_concepts.hpp:391: error: no matching function for call to ‘get(boost::edge_weight_t, const ImplicitRingGraph&, Edge&)’ Should I create functions identical to what I've already written, except with constant modifiers in front of the graph type? That feels like redundant source. Thanks for any help you can give. Hopefully, a completed version of this example would be a useful resource for other BGL developers.

None of my code is using the math library directly, though the .cpp being compiled here does include (mostly indirectly) a lot of boost headers. These include multi_index, optional, some MPL and type_traits, range, iterator, and probably others I am not seeing. Any suggestions on how to work around this? Is it possible to disable this warning? I'm using boost 1.42.0 and i686-linux-g++ (GCC) 4.1.2 Thanks, -Gabe

(oops) Boost Test with multiple processes (MPI)

Sorry, I accidentally hit send too early... Does anyone have a solution for writing unit tests with Boost Test that run in multiple processes? I am using MPI, but I think the same problem would appear in other multi-process situations. I need some way to collect whether, e.g., BOOST_CHECK, has passed on all processes. Here's a simple example. I want my "example" test to fail because should_be_true is false on process 1. What happens is that I get success on process 0 and failure in process 1. What I want is a way to make the test fail on all processes. #define BOOST_TEST_MAIN #include <boost/test/unit_test.hpp> BOOST_AUTO_TEST_CASE(example) { double should_be_unity; const double tolerance = 1.0e-10; // do something that sets should_be_unity to 1.0 // in process 0, and 1.1 in process 1. BOOST_CHECK_CLOSE(should_be_unity, 1.0, tolerance); } I then run the test with mpirun -np 2 ./mytest Obviously, I could write my own tests and collect the results, but then I couldn't use the built-in macros like BOOST_CHECK_CLOSE. [Serialization] Runtime error

Hi, I am getting a runtime error when using boost::serialization, using MSVC 2008, boost 1.43. The code looks something like the following: SomeData some_data; std::ofstream ofs(pcConfigFile, std::ofstream::trunc | std::ofstream::out); boost::archive::xml_oarchive xml(ofs,boost::archive::no_codecvt); xml << boost::serialization::make_nvp("data", some_data); Where some_data is a class that declares serialize. In Debug mode, this results in a exception with the below lengthy stack trace. The Release mode works fine. Any ideas where this could come from? Are there any special considerations that I have to take into account in serialization that do not lead to compile errors but might lead to this runtime behaviour? As a side note, if I do not set the boost::archive::no_codecvt flag in the above code,the constructor of xml_oarchive already fails at a different spot. I already spent days on this, to no avail. I've tried using Intel C++ 11.1, with the same result. I'm evaluating ITL (Interval Template Library which was recently accepted to boost) in order to represent sparse bitsets. In the current implementation the large_bitset class is given as an example with minimal functionality. Are there any plans to develop it into a fully featured bitset and make it a part of boost? It would be nice if it implemented the interface of dynamic_bitset, to ease the migration between dynamic_bitset and large_bitset. Amir

This laptop has installed boost libraries from the repositories (it's boost-1.40 ubuntu 10.04). I had to pass this code to another computer, which hadn't boost installed, so I copied what I had in ubuntu from the repositories into my project, headers included. I need to set up a kind of asychronous communication protocol such that message senders and receivers can communicate asychronously without losing anymessages between them. Hi, I've extended an adjacency list into a custom class in order to add specialized fields and convenience methods. It was working fine until I tried to call create_subgraph on it. Using Xcode, resultmatrix = prod(matrix1,matrix2); is 10 to 16 times slower (with 100x100 matrixes) than simply doing something like that: for(...) for(...) for(..) multiply_things(); And 20 to 40 times slower than a simple threaded approach. Using visual studio, it's 2 times faster than naive multiplication. This is on a release build, with #define BOOST_UBLAS_NDEBUG 1 #define NDEBUG 1 So what gives?

Hy i am trying to store pointers in Property Tree and when i do need to write to some parser data i want to write data to which is "connected" with that pointer. because if i do xml_parser::write_xml(std::cout, _pt_root) i get pointers not the data to which is each leaf pointing to. Hi, I have several .*qbk files that I build in separated folders, each one with is own index.html. However, I couldn't make that one of them to be the main root so when I click in home button it goes to the main root, independently from which file I am. I could only manage to get up and home button to go to file's own index. There's any solution for this or I must build everything in the same file? For example, dll_a.dll and dll_b.dll. When I try to load those dlls in my application (via LoadLibrary), I get assert in void_cast.cpp (225): std::pair<void_cast_detail::set_type::const_iterator, bool> result; result = s.insert(this); assert(result.second); Is it by design? I'm afraid the only way of getting the results of a tokenizing operation is via iterators. Dear PBGL developers, I'm getting errors when compiling parallel-bgl-0.7.0 (the release from PBGL website). I'm compiling against boost 1.43.0, MPI implementation by MX (mpich/mx/gcc/64/1.2.7..3) and using gcc version 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-11). The error I'm getting is: ---- boost/graph/distributed/betweenness_centrality.hpp:574: error: using invalid field `boost::graph::parallel::detail::betweenness_centrality_delta_stepping_impl <Graph, DistanceMap, IncomingMap, EdgeWeightMap, PathCountMap>::owner' ---- and apparently happens during linking. Dear All, I am using boost MPI and mpirun (Open MPI) 1.3.4 I got error: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'boost::exception_detail::clone_impl<boost::exception_detail::error_info_injector<boost::mpi::exception> >' what(): MPI_Test: MPI_ERR_TRUNCATE: message truncated I installed boost MPI library and compile and run the program by openMPI. It seems that the message has been truncated by the receiver. How can I fix the problem ? Is it a bug of OpenMPI ? Any help is appreciated. Asio::Async_read_some - bytes_transferred=0!

Hi, I am using async_read_some() to read data from a tcp connection. In the "async_read_some" handler, sometimes the "bytes_transferred" is zero, and also sometimes causes an error in the read handler called "The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request" What could be the reason? Hi, i see an 'access violation' in 'basic_iarchive_impl::load_pointer' at if(! tracking){ bpis_ptr->load_object_ptr(ar, t, co.file_version); } using boost 1.43.0 / msvc 9.0 with the following polymorphic scenario // base class for converters. contains empty serialization class converter; // invokes serialiazation of base through boost::serialization::base_object class int_converter : public converter; // invokes serialization of base and serialization of _converters // using include <boost/serialization/vector.hpp>, <boost/serialization/shared_ptr.hpp> class composite_converter : public converter { private: std::vector< boost::shared_ptr<converter const> > _converters; } Care as been taken that serialization code is generated in exactly one translation unit (BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_KEY, BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_IMPLEMENT). It seems that saving works out ok as you can see from the attached xml. Loading is performed through a base pointer to converter. I think a similar issue has already been reportet [1]. Without going into more details, is this issue being worked on/ known or resolved? Should I provide more details? Boost.Test - how to print the value of a variable in case of error?

Hi, I am testing "stuff" in a loop, and the "failure message" from Boost.Test is not too useful, because it does not tell me the "loop variable" value. I have hit this "problem" several times already, not only in loops, but any times a variable is involved in a tested expression. And I was not able to figure out what to do. I've looked at the sources etc., but I am too stupid to see if there is a solution in there. I haven't seen anything in the documentation. :( Imagine this: BOOST_CHECK_EQUAL(cont.erase(key),1u); If it fails, it tells me this: basics.cpp(61): error in "test_case": check cont.erase(key) == 1u failed [0 != 1] I cannot see the value of the 'key' variable, so it quite hard to know what that error is. In case of simple code, it may not be a problem to track down what key is, but when it is a loop of over 100000 iterations... :( ..._CHECKPOINT does not work, because it is only printed in case of an exception, but not other failures. :( I was hoping to find something like: BOOST_CHECK_EQUAL_WITH(cont.erase(key),1u, (key) ); which would say: basics.cpp(61): error in "test_case": check cont.erase(key) == 1u failed [0 != 1] with key == 12 Is there a way I could do that? Hello I assign the list of all directories the names of which starts with a pattern like pattern_.... to a cmake variable which I then pass as a preprocessor macro: FILE(GLOB MYPROJECT_LIST_SYSTEMS RELATIVE ${CMAKE_SOURCE_DIR} system_*) MYPROJECT_LIST_SYSTEMS is then a cmake "list", a string with semicolon separators. I will then define a preprocessor macro MYPROJECT_LIST_SYSTEMS with the same contents. 1. What is the maximum length of a preprocessor macro (g++4.4, msvc2008/10)? 2. I will create in a source file a list of class instances all with the same names in the passed macro. I reckon I can use a PP sequence, list, tuple or array. Is there any max length here? [Interprocess] Shared Memory Bus Error

I'm writing a shared library that uses shared memory to store large amounts of data for multiple processes to use. There's also a loader application that will read in the data from the files and load them into the shared memory. When I run the loader application, it determines the amount of memory that it needs to store the data exactly then adds 25% for overhead. For just about every file, it'll be over 2 gigs worth of data. When I make the memory request using Boost.Interprocess, it says it has successfully reserved the requested amount of memory. But when I use start to use it, I get a "Bus error". From what I can tell, the bus error is a result of accessing memory outside the range that is available for the memory segment. So I started looking into how the shared memory is on Linux and what to check to make sure my system is correctly configured to allow that large amount of shared memory. 1. I looked at the "files" at /proc/sys/kernel/shm*: - shmall - 4294967296 (4 Gb) - shmmax - 68719476736 (68 Gb) - shmmni - 4096 2. I called the ipcs -lm command: ------ Shared Memory Limits -------- max number of segments = 4096 max seg size (kbytes) = 67108864 max total shared memory (kbytes) = 17179869184 min seg size (bytes) = 1 >From what I can tell, those settings indicate that I should be able to allocate enough shared memory for my purposes. I checked the size of the "files" at /dev/shm using the ls -ash /dev/shmcommand: total 2.0G 0 . 0 .. 2.0G ShmTest And just like with my original application it the size of the allocated shared memory is capped at 2 gigs. Given that it "successfully" allocated 2352000000 bytes of memory, in gigabytes (using 1024*1024*1024) it should be 2.19 Gb. Hello, I'm trying to use the SVN version of boost::numeric::binding, but I get several errors during compilation. The majority of these errors are related to the presence of names prefixed with the dollar '$' sign. Hi, When using the BOOST_PARAMETER_MEMBER_FUNCTION as shown in the code below I get a compiler warning "unused parameter args" (see also below). [signals2] scoped_connection strangeness

Hi list, I'm using the signals2 library in the arrangement shown below. Connections are using the scoped_connection class. When I call Disconnect on an instant of X I expect that it won't be referenced anymore (by the signaller object.) But it generally doesn't seem to be the case. For the object "a" it is correctly destructed but "b" isn't destructed until the signaller object is destructed. I am using signals2 correctly? If you can use Boost.Phoenix.Bind there is a define (PHOENIX_COMPOSITE_LIMIT) you can set to control the number of available arguments.

boost::interprocess locks: crashes causing deadlock

Hello, I am currently using boost::inteprocess locks for the windows platform. I've used both the named_recursive_mutex and the interprocess_recursive_mutex. If I rerun my process again, my process just hangs at the detail::atomic_cas32() which causes a deadlock. I've tried looking through all the other interprocess locks, and they all seem to filter down to this call. Can someone suggest a locking mechanism where I could lock a resource from all other processes, but if a process crashes that currently owns the lock, other threads will be allowed to acquire the lock? It seems like "file lock" might do what I want, but I wasn't to sure. any suggestions? thx, J

Xpressive allows the use of object placeholders in semantic actions, which are being replaced by actual object references during the match, like in this simple example: placeholder<string> p_string; sregex r = (expr)[do_something(p_string, _)]; When executed, do_something() functor will receive a reference to string, as expected. However, if functor is wrapped with assertion, this won't work: sregex r = (expr)[check(do_something(p_string, _))]; Compilation will fail, because do_something has no method which accepts xpressive::placeholder<> objects. And even if such method was to be added, there's no obvious way to obtain a run-time reference to actual object out of placeholder. This leads to some question: 1. Is there any trick allowing to use placeholders within check() assertions? 2. Alternatively, may there be a way to declare a semantic action functor, returning bool, in such a way, that it will act as custom assertion? It seems to me, that some cunning trick involving boost::proto construct may exist, even though I can't think of any particular way to do so. In light of the above, I also thought about sort of feature request: 3. Sometimes, custom assertion applies only to a part of the match, something like: *((expr)[check(cond)] | _) That is, a desire is to consume everything, until some specific "expr" token matches a precondition. However, raised assertion will not stop the matching, because it only applies to one branch of the regexp. It could be very handy if there was a way to signal from assertion that a larger containing expression matched it results. Thanks.

Currently, I convert, all wide-character strings are narrowed to their single-byte variants before passing them to boost::error_info tags. This however leads to a) partially unreadable strings: when narrowing a boost::filesystem::wpath to fit into a boost::errinfo_file_name b) potential throw from the narrowing code. c) calls narrowing code all around our code-basis. Dear boosters, What is the consensus on best-practice regarding the conversion of UTFx to/from UTFy? I see that Boost Regex uses ICU for some conversions, but is there any user exported interface for conversions? There are several points in which being able to convert between UTFs is interesting. While I could stick to one of the several solutions and façades on the Web (including some Boost Vault projects), I would rather know the current community opinion on the subject. I'm using the Boost.Range 2.0 library (Boost version 1.43.0), and I was looking for metafunctions to use in conjunction with boost::enable_if. I wasn't able to find anything akin to "is_range" and/or "is_range_of" in Boost.Range or in Boost.TypeTraits. Another was to disable the MPL assertion in the body of the macro. For class versioning to work for gcc, the BOOST_PP_COUNTER macro has to appear in a header file, and I think it is better to put it in the header files for the classes to be serialized. boost serialization archive compatibility

Hello group! We are upgrading boost from version 1.34.1 to 1.43.0. A quick test revealed that after the upgrade our binary archives cannot be loaded anymore. It seems like the type of the class id was changed from int to short making the old archive from 1.34.1 incompatible to our current application using 1.43.0. Is this a bug or expected behavior? How does boost serialization treat backwards compatibility? Will archives created by earlier versions of the library be still loadable? Do different archives behave differently in this regard? We do not really require backwards compatibility. I would just like to know what to expect. Thanks you. dealing with template size definition macros

I have written a class that uses named parameters in the constructor because there's like 10 parameters and too often you just want to replace one. Exactly the reason to use them in other words. Unfortunately, I also use the boost::signals2 library. It also apparently uses this library because I keep running into problems where BOOST_PARAMETER_MAX_ARITY has already been set. Even if I undefine it and redefine it to what I need I have problems when it says I've supplied too many template parameters. Wouldn't it be reasonable to expect that this value is undefined at the end of boost headers that use it? At least in 1.42, signals2 does not do so. What is a reasonable approach to dealing with conflicts like this? I'm currently trying to integrate the boost::serialization lib into my project and I encounter some problems : - With the non intrusive version I just cannot get my derivated class to serialize properly. Sign of gcd in rational.hpp

Providing a string-to-X feature

Suppose I wanted to expose a "parse from string" feature for my data type. For discussion, I'll suppose it's a date/time type since everyone knows that and it illustrates the worst problems. What is the current thought on the "best practices" way to expose this? Maybe I'll start with a stream operator>>, and make sure it works with lexical_cast<X>(string). But, where do I add the extra options that tells it what to allow or assume when parsing? Dates for example might have different formats and it can recognize any legal format, but you can tell it to ignore some since that clashes with other input data. It contains spaces and trailing components are optional, so it doesn't know when to stop until it runs into something that doesn't fit. In some sense, that ought to be a constructor. But it should take any kind of string-like thing or stream, and the declaration might clash with other more normal constructors, so a purpose-named "take from human-readable form" is better. An earlier discussion touched on whether to use lexical_cast or a to_string function. This is the other direction, but might have similar issues. Only from_string doesn't seem to be as omni-present as an expectation. What is the bare minimum that needs to implemented for a Graph concept?

The concept checking code for the Graph concept seems to require more associated types than is called for by the documentation. According to "The Boost Graph Library" book by Siek et al. and documentation on the boost website ( http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_43_0/libs/graph/doc/Graph.html) the Graph concept needs just four associated types: vertex_descriptor, directed_category, edge_parallel_category, and traversal_category. Hi John, Thanks for your tips . I searched my system directory , found 2 cstddef files , one is in my VC directory and one is in boost compatibility directory . The latter do import ptrdiff_t into std namespace . It seems boost include the former . Should I copy boost's cstddef to my VC directory ? BTW I'm using WDK (Windows Driver Kit) , C compiler version is 15.00 and not ran bootstrap.bat ever. [RFC] Signals bound to phoenix functions

G'day, I'd like to get your opinion on a problem that puzzles me for a while. Basically, I'm trying to do sort of a delayed signals2 notification mechanism. I have a class wrapped around ASIOs io_service object that I normally use as a thread multiplexer and function storage. Now in this case I want to use it without working threads so a current thread can process whatever handlers are in it. Which works fine but now I want to connect signals to it. I have several data classes that contain signals. These are to be connected to slots, but not directly. Instead, these slots are to be wrapped in little handlers and these handlers shall be put in the io_service object. So the signal's slot should not be executed straight away but by another thread that executes everything in the io_service. Now this strikes me as something that could be done nicely with phoenix. I want to use phoenix to create a little function that I can connect to the signal and that will do nothing more but post the handler into the io_service when the signal is triggered. I just can't figure out if that can actually work. Here's what I have so far (simplyfied). If that makes sense, which I'm not sure of. Also, I am not certain about the whole thing. Can a phoenix generated function actually serve this way? Just post the handler when the signal is triggered? boost::regex - I do not understand why this test fails.

However REGEX1 matches and produces weird (for me) results. I would expect REGEX1 only matches for strings with 6 terms (3 words and 3 numbers). I've check crtdefs.h on my system . It defined ptrdiff_t here but not under std namespace . Is the right place that ptrdiff_t got defined ? If not in which file should ptrdiff_t be defined . [array] range check (at compile time)

Hi, Lately I find myself using boost::array intesively, specially in small demo programs. Sometimes, when "manually" accessing the elements I type a index out of range. The library can detect these errors once the program is running but I found this a waste, also I was surprised not to see this kind of static check not implemented in the library. Best libraries for a Boost workshop

Hi, I'm going to be teaching a four hours workshop about getting started with Boost, and I'm wondering which libraries would be the most representative and interesting to show. I was thinking about doing a quick review of the boost libraries that were accepted for the C++ Technical Report 1, quickly saying what each is about, and showing one example. That would be the first part of the workshop. For the second part, I'm making a selection of the most interesting libraries. I'd thoroughly explain each of them, showing several examples and maybe giving some time for the students to fiddle with their computers and the libraries. And here's where I need your help. So far, the libraries I'm sure I'm going to teach are: smart pointers, lexical_cast, bind and function, ref, hash and unordered containers. I'd also add strings algorithms, maybe regex and/or tokenizer. I'm not sure about «program options». Anyway, what's your advice? What are the 12~15 boost libraries you find essential? [multi-index] looking for "not greater than"

Hello, I've got a container with an ordered non-unique key. I have to find an element, which is not greater than X. [1, 3, 3, 5, 7] myIndex.not_greater_than(4) --> 5 myIndex.not_greatet_than(7) --> 7 myIndex.not_greatet_than(8) --> 7 IUUC, neither lower_bound(), nor upper_bound() can help here. Is there a simple way to do this? Thanks.

In preparation for this, I have attached a "pre-release" version to this e-mail which has everything needed to build the test case with g++ and GNU Make. Before I add in all of the template code to support "default" template parameters and other niceties, I figured that it would be good to have a review of the code to make sure that I am headed in the right direction. Also, I have tested my code against the example from Stoer & Wagner (1997). It appears to be working correctly, but there might be bugs. I think that it would be good to have more testing. Would someone please review my code? Also, is anyone aware of good examples for testing min-cut implementations? Daniel
