Hello, I'd like to have a macro like: BUILD_HIERARCHY (a, (b,) (c, (d,) (e,) ) ) which should expand to: struct a {}; struct b: a {}; struct c: a {}; struct d: c {}; struct e: c {}; Is this possible at all? I have tried but with no luck, if this is impossible, please tell me so. TIA

Asio 1.6: compile error in signal_set_service with MSVC10

Hi, I was just updating Boost from 1.46.1 to 1.47 and encountered a compile error inside Asio. Since there is no major outcry on this list I guess I've made an error anywhere in the upgrade process or my code. When compiling my static library that contains the networking code with (our only compiler) Visual Studio 2010 I get compile errors in asio/detail/impl/signal_set_service.ipp in line 74 saying 'boost::signal': use of class template requires template argument list As a remedy I simply defined BOOST_ASIO_DISABLE_SIGNAL, the code compiles fine and I did not recognize any problems at a first short test. I tried to make a simple example showing the error, but I was not able to reproduce this easily. So I thougt I ask what disabling signals means for Asio and if this is a valid workaround, or if I really should try to get this compile error fixed before working with 1.47. thanks, Norbert

[fusion] adapt std::tuple to be a fusion sequence?

Hello, Is it possible to adapt std::tuple to be a fusion sequence? I'm thinking it may be possible to do it for a specific number of elements using BOOST_FUSION_ADAPT_TPL_ADT, but I haven't tried. Is there some functionality like this already in fusion? Thanks, Nate.

Boost::Asio SSL Handshake - Payload in TDS package

Hi, I need to parse TDS packages that contain SSL as their payload. For example the TDS package type 0x12 (PreLogin) will have the SSL handshake as its payload. Can I extract this payload and somehow tell Boost::Asio to use this data for an SSL handshake (async_handshake)? Andi

I wrote the following functor: struct ASCII_lower { template< typename CharT > CharT operator() (const CharT& ch) const { if (ch >= 'A' && ch <= 'Z') return ch+0x20; return ch; // unchanged } }; and when I used it to create a transformed_range, I get an error that it doesn't find result_type in ASCII_lower. Since the return type depends on the argument, how could I declare a result_type? And why do I need it? Lambda functions don't have it, and I thought it was fairly old fashioned and optional for helping figure out the result type if necessary.

Boost.Iterator and future standards?

The documentation for Boost.Iterator says "Both iterator_facade and iterator_adaptor as well as many of the specialized adaptors <http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_46_1/libs/iterator/doc/index.html#specializ…> mentioned below have been proposed for standardization, and accepted into the first C++ technical report" But I don't see that in <http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_46_1/doc/html/boost_tr1.html> or notice anything concerning them in other TR1 writeups. Can someone clarify the situation?

Hi, I'm having a weird dynamic failure using Boost.Rational. Using some rationals and doing a calculus, i'm ending with a rational with a negative denominator, and so unusable for comparison (hence the r.den > 0 assertion failure during the execution). exception problem with boost::filesystem under cygwin

Hello, I'm using boost::filesystem within my project (boost 1.47.0). I have compiled the boost under cygwin with bjam. I have some problems with exception throws / catches: The following example shows the problem: #include <stdexcept> #include <boost/filesystem.hpp> int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { throw std::runtime_error("xxx"); return 0; } If I compile this code under Cygwin and link cygboost_filesystem and cygboost_system, the programs terminates with this messages: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error' terminate called recursively If I remove the boost/filesystem include the program produce the correct message: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error' what(): xxx If I change the program to: int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { try { throw std::runtime_error("xxx"); } catch (...) {} return 0; } the program breaks down with the filesystem include: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error' terminate called recursively without the include always works fine. [fusion] BOOST_FUSION_DEFINE_STRUCT at class scope

Hello, The documentation of BOOST_FUSION_DEFINE_STRUCT says it should be used at global scope. Why can't this function be used at namespace scope, and, especially, at class scope? Not being able to use it at namespace scope is just as annoyance because it means the current namespace(s) have to be closed before the macro and re-opened after it; but not being able to use it at class scope means that it cannot be used to declare nested structures which are fusion sequences at all. Is there another device that allows us to declare nested structure that are fusion sequences? Thanks, Nate.

According to the schedule, review for the Type Traits Introspection library by Edward Diener starts this friday and run till July 10th. =========== What is it? =========== The TTI library, which is an abbreviation for the 'Type Traits Introspection' library, allows a programmer to introspect at compile time the inner elements of a C++ type. The introspection process depends on specifying the name of the inner element by different macros for different types of elements, and then using a generated metafunction to determine whether that element exists within the enclosing type. The inner elements which can be introspected are type, class template, member data, member function, static member data, and static member function. The TTI library is based on the type_traits_ext portion of the Concept Traits Library, with improvements and additions, and also reproduces functionality ( without changing existing code ), for the purposes of completeness, from Boost.MPL regarding introspection of types and templates. The purpose of the library is to provide a consistent set of interfaces for doing compile-time introspection of a type, which other template metaprogrammers can use in their code. Thanks so much for a great C++ library, Last night I read the complete archive looking for some tidbits of info to help me figure out how to move forward with a decision of the appropriate approach. I am fairly new to boost so I am hoping someone has some advice for my situation. I am trying to share instances of a c++ class that is auto-generated from xml schema. I am trying to hand this class off from a dll that a web service engine loads to another application for processing. This class is an in-memory implementation of the class and contains several objects which contain a lot of native stl c++ strings as well as other primitive types. I was hoping to use boosts circular buffer in shared memory, but began prototyping with a vector it and researching and I realized that the strings put in shared memory must use the basic_string construct. Having some concern about going through all of the auto generated code to change all of these types and concern over what affect that might have on the dll & service engine operation. I've seen some examples using shared memory that use the void allocator and thought maybe that is what I need to do, however I keep getting back to the fact that I've got a bunch of strings in this composite class and I don't know if that is torpedoing my attempts. I've seen there are many interprocess constructs, memory mapped regions, shared_ptrs and message ques etc. I also recently got to thinking that perhaps I should look at boost serialize to deal with the strings. I didn't want to leave the boost interprocess approach if there was some way to exchange instances of this class correctly using one of boost interprocess constructs. What I am hoping is that some could chime in with suggestions on different ways to use boost to achieve this and I'll try and go off and research it. Your input is greatly appreciated!

Don, I can't speak to what support is present in boost serialization, but I have a lot of code that needs to deal with multiple versions of classes or data structures. I've found that the best way to deal with that is to store a version number as a data member and then handle the schema evolution internally in the class. In general, it is the responsibility of a class to handle older versions "appropriately" whatever that means to you in your context. If the version number is the FIRST data member of the class (in an I/O or serialization context), then you can easily write code to handle multiple versions during I/O and/or serialization. [GIL] Loading flipped image

Hi, Is it possible to flip image while it is being loaded? Png images are loaded upside-down and I currently I use copy_pixels() on flipped_up_down_view() of original image but I really wish I could avoid that step. Cheers, Szymon

Fwd: building cufflinks has compiler error related to boost

The following error is happening when I try to build cufflinks. I am on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 and I have installed every boost package available from the RHN repositories. (I would install directly from boost but RHN support is usually anal about using stuff from source when its available from them.) Cufflinks says it uses boost 1.38, and the package version is 1.41, so the version should be adequate. I'm somewhat lost now. Hello, I am having a LINK error when I try to include stuff for serialization: * #include <boost/archive/text_oarchive.hpp> #include <boost/archive/text_iarchive.hpp> 1>LINK : fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'libboost_serialization-vc100-mt-gd-1_46_1.lib' *So I am trying to build this, with the libs/serialization/vc7ide/BoostSerializationLibrary.sln using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express on Windows 7 (64 bit). Building the solution finished with: *========== Build: 2 succeeded, 88 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped ==========* With a lot of: * 90>LINK : fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'boost_filesystem-vc100-mt-gd-1_46_1.lib'* So I tried next the libs/filesystem/v3/test/msvc10/filesystem-v3.sln. Building the solution finished with 3 failed, but it was because it didn't find some of the tutorial projects, so leaving those out from the build made: *========== Build: 10 succeeded, 0 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped ==========* But this doesn't seem to give me *boost_filesystem-vc100-mt-gd-1_46_1.lib *anywhere, so all the problems above remain. The standard deviation should be 0.1. Does anyone knows what went wrong? Is this my failure? I use boost 1.46 and gcc 4.5.2.

Hi: I'm working on a project and have a file with lines of the following form: :function AddBrailleColors :Synopsis Provides a method for the user to assign custom colors to be marked in Braille. :Description Brings up a dialog for the user to assign the colors on the screen to Braille marking. :Param String/strForeground Enter the variable containing the RGB string for the foreground color. :Param String/strBackground Enter the RGB string for the background color. :Param String/sApp Enter the value for the app file name to be used. :Category Colors What boost library do people feel is the best one to use to parse this form of input, boost.Regex, boost.proto or boost.spirit? And given the input, what would be the best way of going about doing this? I need the function, Synopsis, Description, and then the parameters ideally placed in separate variables. For instance, if I try to serialize a storing<std::string> then I'll get errors about std::string not having a serialization routine even if I include boost/serialization/string.hpp. If I try to load into a temporary variable then I run into the problem of having to construct one, and sometimes I need extra information to do so (I have the serialization routines dealing with this in such cases). Any ideas?

[io::streams] Using array device and std::output_iterator

Hello *, I tried to use an array-device based stream and wantet to pass the stream to std::output_iterator or std::istream_iterator, but unfortunately, I get a compilation error with gcc 4.3.5. Boost::IOStreams docu states that the io::stream is either derived from std::basic_istream or std::basic_ostream or both dependent on the underlying device category. array has seekable category, so I'd expect io::stream to derive from both and be compatible with ostream_iterator or istream_iterator. Here is the code snippet: typedef unsigned char byte; typedef io::basic_array<byte> array_device; typedef io::stream<array_device> array_stream; array_stream ios_(ptr_to_byte_array); std::istream_iterator<byte> in(ios_); And the last line results in the error stating: src/chunk_reading_iterator_test.cpp: In member function 'void chunk_reading_iterator_suite::ctor::test_method()': src/chunk_reading_iterator_test.cpp:86: error: no matching function for call to 'std::istream_iterator<unsigned char, char, std::char_traits<char>, int>::istream_iterator(chunk_reading_iterator_suite::<unnamed>::array_stream&)' Thanks for any suggestions, Ovanes

I have compiled the same C++ source on two machines: 1 - Ubuntu 11.04, 2.6.38-10-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 28 15:07:17 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux 2 - CentOS release 5.3, 2.6.18-128.1.14.el5 #1 SMP Wed Jun 17 06:40:54 EDT 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux On Ubuntu I have g++-4.5.2, on CentOs g++-4.4.4 and on both I have boost-1.42.0. My source compiles perfectly on both machines, but on the CentOS one I get a Segmentetion Fault during the execution. Using some prints, I found out where it happens: ... boost::regex grepGPP("Monthly Ecosystem GPP", boost::regex::egrep); cerr << "DEBUG BEFORE!" << endl; boost::regex_search (currGPP, grepGPP) cerr << "DEBUG AFTER!" << endl; ... Serialization writing an old version of a class

Using boost serialization, I would like to be able to write an old version of a class, so that I can save data in an "old" format to allow other users with old versions of my program to read the file. I see from the archives that this has come up before, and Robert Ramey indicated it was doable and on the todo list, but I don't see it in the release notes or documentation. I have downloaded boost 1.45 and built "bjam" by running "bootstarp.bat". >From "bjam" I built the regex library using the following command bjam --build-type=minimal --with-regex using=msvc --address-model=64 I am compiling using visual studio 2010. [iostreams] Issue when compiling with zlib, and suggestion

Hi all: I'm currently trying to compile boost 1.47. I need to use the zlib features in the ioStreams library hence am using the following command line: bjam toolset=msvc --stagedir=stage/vc/v10/32-bit -sZLIB_SOURCE="c:\progra~1\zlib" -sZLIB_LIBPATH="c:\progra~1\zlib\boost_zlib.lib" -sBZIP2_SOURCE="c:\progra~1\bzip2" --build-type=complete >boostv10.txt this fails telling me it carn't open boost_zlib.lib. it appears from the docs that this command line is correct. I'm compiling on windows xp, vc 2010. Also, whilst I think about it, without modifying the default jam file the boost.iostreams library fails to compile, the file gzio.c is no longer in the zlib distribution as of version 1.2.3.9-could this be rectified for future boost releases? Lean and mean boost

Hi all, I'm sitting here developing a build script to automate my build which first of all involves checking out sources, one of which is boost. However, 99.9% of the checkout time is boost tests/documentation/examples and what have you. It would be such a good feature to split out these stuffs so that there is a way to get to the nitty gritty jucy stuff without having to wait half a day... ;) Sorry for kicking in open doors, if that's what I'm doing ? :) Regards /Rob

serialization: binary archives from 1.44 to 1.46.1...

just ran into this, it seems binary archives made with 1.44 do not read in the latest(1.46.1) version. Since I read about fix_six.cpp, I thought let's try modifying the lib version, maybe that helps. (maybe somebody put fixes in that break other things?) If I change the lib version from 7 to 8, it reads in correctly..... if(boost::archive::library_version_type(7) == lvt){ lvt = boost::archive::library_version_type(8); fb.pubseekpos(26, std::ios_base::out); fb.sputn(reinterpret_cast<const char *>(& lvt), sizeof(lvt)); } (without it, the int at offset 0x26 is already reading wrong in the latest version....) Files from my program created with 1.44 and 1.46.1, with only one object in them, first element an int, only differed in the version byte. Hello, Before, with boost 1.38 and visual studio 2005, i was using following funtion to retrieve the file names in a folder. Now i switched to boot 1.46.1 and visual studio 2010, but the following method is not working. I'm trying to compile an executable with the following command: g++ -Wall -pedantic -g -O3 -DDEBUG -march=native -std=c++0x -lboost_regex -o wrapCMCC wrapCMCC.cpp On an Ubuntu machine with GCC 4.5.2 and BOOST-1.42.0 I can compile without problems. Ranges and primitive arrays and argument forwarding

In a nutshell, I want to use ranges to unify several different ways of representing "strings" in the program. This includes subranges of an existing sequence, so for consistancy a "fixed" sized container does not need a nul termination but can fill the container completely. The point here is that I want to treat arrays differently from pointers, which is unlike boost::as_literal. The idea is that I can apply a pre-conditioning function to any supported type, and get a iterator_range back out. Here is an example of a trivial function to test it out, that just returns the length: namespace internal { template <typename RangeT> size_t Strlen (RangeT s) { return boost::size(s); } } template <typename T> size_t Strlen (T s) { return internal::Strlen (internal::as_literal(s)); } For a more complex function, every argument that is meant to be a generalized "string" will be so-wrapped, and pass on to the underlying internal form which expects that they are all Ranges. The top-level function's call to internal::as_literal is going to the first form, not the third. The parameter, r, is of type char*& from what the debugger tells me, so the template argument Range must be deduced as char*. The original Strlen see s as a char*, so it's already lost it at this point. If I have to write every top-level function to take separate array and non-array template forms, besides being less elegant it will be a combinitational explosion on functions that take multiple arguments. Is there a way around this that work in Visual Studio 2005 (a.k.a. VS8)? When the project finally moves to a newer compiler, does rvalue references ("perfect forwarding") fix this issue, or is it still losing the arrayness by design? Thanks, —John

Hi: Ok, I've just takan a look at property tree and it seems to do what I want, however if I use xml, and for example have an element such as: <Person id=121> <Name="bla"/> <age=33/> </Person> How will propertytree handle the attribute on person, i.e the id member? Secondly, How do I go about having a number of person entries-i.e persons. I was thinking of using a vector of propertyTrees, will this work? Any help appreciated! Sleeping a Boost.thread for some Boost.date_time nanoseconds

Good morning, I want a boost thread to sleep for some nanoseconds. The following code is a sample that compiles without errors. However, it does not work as expected and I cannot figure out why. I have a file of the form: [Section 1] Key 1 =value1 Key2=value2 [section2] Key1=value1 Key2=value2 What I'd like to be able to do is: Firstly enumerate the sections assuming the form above. [Interprocess] : problem with large vector of maps in memory mapped file

Dear all, I'm using Boost 1.47 on Linux x86_64 in combination with gcc version 4.5.1. I'm trying to implement a large vector of maps in a memory mapped file. My code works fine on small example cases but crashes randomly when trying to store larger datasets. The application generally runs fine for a few days before a segementation fault occurs which makes debugging very time consuming. Hello, all - After starting from scratch again, I've been able to climb into boost::asio and am beginning to get it to work. Please bear with me; I'm still a noob when it comes to reading C++ templates. I started by building the little asynchronous daytime server into my primary application, and used the asynch client to successfully talk to it. All well and good. Now, I've built my real message, which is mixed 7-bit ASCII and binary data (counts, checksums, etc.). In experimenting to make it work, I've started changing my code in the server and client to be more like the echo server. It appears to be accepting the message, but when it tries to respond the async_write() function throws an error: ERROR: 'system:0' has occurred. ... and I see 'connection reset by peer' on the client side. I don't THINK it's because I'm sending binary; this is more likely a glitch in my understanding of boost::asio. [thread] terminating a thread when a program exits

Hi: I've got a situation whereby, I've got a number of boost::thread objects being created by classes in my program and run for the duration of the program. What I need to do is when the exit menu item is activated, close down all threads. I was going to use a condition, and have the threads continue until the condition is signalled, and then use notify_all when the exit menu item is activated. Given that I want this condition to be multi-read/exclusive write, what mutex is the best option? Also will I need to use a mutex in the threads I need to terminate. I see the code of the threads being something like: While (Terminate !=false) { //perform actions. }; Normally in this situation I'd use a windows event and the WaitForSingle/multipleObject functions, but as this has to be cross platform I carn't do this. Dear All, I'm trying to get some objects sorted. Every object has a set of pointers to other objects, which need to come before this object (or are considered smaller than this object). It is kind of a make-tool algorithm. I can imagine the straight-forward way to attack this -- searching. Is there some more elegant way I'm missing? The number of objects not small. I tried to write some recursive functor to be passed to std::sort -- caching the result of previous comparisions -- but I was not successful. My brain is hurting... Multi Index Container - find() not working with std::string, kind of stuck...

Hi, I've hit a snag with the Boost Multi Index Container, and I'd really appreciate some help. I've set up a container and I am using it to store shared pointers to custom objects. The custom objects are just data collections effectively, including std::strings, chars, ints etc. The problem is that when I try to find a string in the MIC, the find function sometimes succeeds, and sometimes returns the same iterator as .end(), indicating a failure to find. Yet, if I iterate through the container testing the strings, the string is always found. I've done something wrong, but I do not know what it is. Metaprogamming question

I roughed out a function that will be a template that dispatches to one of several different forms based on the nature of one of the arguments. It's fairly simple, each helper call asking one question to further divide it up. But, I want to write a dozen functions that all have similar (if not identical) issues. So I want to abstract out the mixmaster and code that once. I'm thinking that I map the argument to a "tag" that has many possible values, and have one set of overloaded functions. It is easy to write the back end, as each function's tag is clear what that case is for. Furthermore, I can make the tags empty structs that use an inheritance pattern, so any forms I don't supply for some function will simply pick the more general one. So, how do I write the metafunction that maps the type to the tag? I could follow my same approach of one step at a time. But I wonder if a "switch" statement of some kind would be clearer and easier. OTOH, I don't want to learn all of MPL just for one thing, and I don't want to bog down the compilation speed. Is there something specific someone can point me to? Second, my pseudocode has a metafunction for telling me whether a type is a resizable container. STL containers predate the modern style of metafunctions and use cumbersome traits instead, but is there something around that I can use to tell that something is supposed to be a STL container or specific categories of containers? I could just list them all one by one, but type_traits already did that for me for a lot of things, and I'd have to tell everyone how to meta-annotate their own classes that are supposed to work "like" STL containers for algorithms. Can I use something like enable_if to tell if a class has a push_back or resize function? Thanks everyone, --John

hello, I noticed that when asynchronously connecting to an acceptor on localhost using boost::asio::ip::tcp::socket generates 2 TCP sockets on the system. One to the acceptor and one to the other one. Stepping into the code I can see where it is done, but I don't understand why. Hi List, I was looking at the file boost/pending/detail/property.hpp and noted that boost::ct_if was used therein. I think this must have come from boost/pending/ct_if.hpp (but that header is not included?), which no longer exists in boost version 1.46.1. This is the only reference to boost::ct_if I can find within the boost distribution. I was wondering if this is just old code that is not used anywhere (any more), or if I am missing something?

Storing vertex descriptors when removing a vertex

Hi all, I am using the boost graph library for my project and encountered a small problem I don't know how to solve. I had to keep in an extern storage some of the vertex_descriptor in order to have access to their adjacent vertices and their properties. But as it is written in the boost documentation, when I remove a vertex, the vertex_descriptors change and I am not able to keep the right ones in my storage. Is there something else apart from vertex_descriptor that won't change but from which I could also access adjacent vertices and properties ? Thank you in advance for your help. Orianne

Hi, Am I missing something or is there no way to serialise to a network stream? Using the blocking method for sending and receiving I have a boost::asio::ip::tcp::iostream and need a boost::archive::xml_oarchive to serialise to/from unfortunately I can't work out how to create a xml_oarchive from the network iostream. I see from the examples most people are serialising to a buffer and then sending that but it would be much neater to be able to use a stream directly. Am I missing something or is this a gap? Threads and virtual functions

Hello, here is a simplified code I wrote: class A{ public: A(); ~A(); void Run(); void ThreadA(); virtual void HandleSomething(); }; void A::HandleSomething() { } void A::ThreadA() { if(condition) { HandleSomething(); } } void A::Run() { boost::thread thread(&A::ThreadA,this); } This is my base class. As you can see the thread calls the virtual function when the condition becomes true. I use the virtual function in my derived class so everytime the condition becomes true the function HandleSomething() should do something. So far, so good but when I try to change some variables in the derived class the program crashes without any warning or error message. I use the latest Ubuntu version with GCC 4.5.3 and boost 1.46.1.

Hi, The purpose of this email is to get some insight on the problem we faced when trying to compile chrono from the 1.47 Beta 1 package. I have tried both the latest released compiler (2011 Update 4) and the current SP1 beta. There is no issue with VS 2010 SP1's compiler. Hi, After some effort I managed to add a new system to boost units (namely "atomic"). Hello, I am trying to initialize a bimap<T, U> with a vector<pair<T&, U&>> (the "vector" part isn't important, any range with elements of type pair<T&, U&> has the same effect), but I'm getting a rather monstrous compiler error. The same initialization works for std::map<T, U>. [asio] [thread] Code review for correct use of boost sockets and threads

Hello everyone, I am using the boost library now for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately I've run into some problems with my C++ code and I would like to make sure that these problems are not caused due to incorrect use of boost. So basically I've written a small class which is suppossed to take messages and send them asynchronously. If there are more messages than can be processed, they queue up. The code is mainly based on the tutorial code provided on the boost website: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_39_0/doc/html/boost_asio/tutorial/tutdaytim… I have 2 questions: 1. The constructor launches the threads, from this point on I want to be able to queue up messages, which are processed afer that by using the function MessageService::write. Is there any possible problem which could occur due to buffer or thread issues? Because sometimes the messages are not processed until the end and when they are processed they are corrupted. 2. Sometimes the messages are not processed when the application would quit. I have to make sure, that the messages are sent at least at the end. Sometimes there are 10.000+ messages queued up, so this might take a bit time. For this I've wrote MessageService::await(). It seems really bogus to me. I am checking the pending messages left for the following reason: When the host I am connecting to does not listen on the port I am connecting to, I don't receive an error by the functions I am using. So the messages are queued up and nothing happens. I don't know why. Have I forgot any checking whether the connection could be established? In the hope my question is not too generic, I would be really grateful for any advice. Hi I tried to specify the boost::filesystem3::path to use my custom string (icu based) but in result I have error during my code compiling and I can't solve it... I have this issue under Linux, because under Windows ICU has equal with boost char-representation (wchar_t), but under Linux these values are different. weird Google page when I try to search boost.org

It says: We're sorry... ... but your computer or network may be sending automated queries. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now. See Google Help for more information. I've been getting for about two weeks. Originally I thought it was just a temporary thing. It hasn't gone away and now I'm wonder it if it's just me. I only get it when I use the boost.org search box. Anyone else get this? Robert Ramey

Boost::Serialization and MFC Doc/View architecture

Hi All, I'm porting an existing MFC C++ application to use Boost::Serialization for XML files. The problem is that loading a document doesn't work. The boost library seems to copy the CMyDoc object because the pointer comes back a different address. This means that the loaded file isn't loaded into the current document. Can a CDoc overwrite itself with boost? It can with MFC CArchive. If I overload the CMyView to capture the file open and save events, the MRU list management offered by the Doc/View architecture won't happen. I'm sure this has been done a million times, but I can't find any information online. Weird! Any help much appreciated. Thanks, Colin

using crypto++ with boost::wserialization

Hi: I'm in the process of needing to encrypt a stream that I'm serializing to. Given that I'm using boost::wserialization to serialize classes, what is the best way of going about this, writing two separate streams to do the job, or writing stream filters? Fyi I'm planning on using Crypto++ has anybody already got streams/stream buffers that use this library? If I can use both approaches, what are the differences? I need to make the code as easy to read as possible. Any help appreciated. Cheers Sean.

Boost.Python to-Python converter for class T already registered

Hi All, I'm integrating a Boost.Python module into a Django project. I'm getting spammed with warnings for duplicate conversion methods. Django uses a multi-process model that loads separate copies of the python module into memory. The module does fine with multiprocess initialization. The warnings occur when, somehow, Django calls __init__ a second time on my module, within the same process. The warnings look like: C:\work\svn\sw\branches\python\imager\__init__.py:1: RuntimeWarning: to-Python converter for class std::vector<class std::basic_string<char,struct std::char_traits<char>,class std::allocator<char> >,class std::allocator<class basic_string<char,struct std::char_traits<char>,class std::allocator<char> > > > already registered; second conversion method ignored. I have a few questions about this, as I am new to python. I thought that modules were supposed to be process-global. How do i enforce this and prevent __init__ from being called twice? Are the warnings benign? Should I be concerned about the state of my library static globals (ie is the compiled code going through a second initialization process)?

Is that possible that a desktop application open a message queue that a service create? If not, I would drop the use of the message queue in my application.

How & when to use weak_ptr

Hi -- I'm loving how easy shared_ptr makes object handling, but am not sure about how to use weak_ptr. Should I use it in places where previously I would have, say, returned a const reference? For example: struct MyClass { const OtherObject & other_object() const; }; Would become: struct MyClass { weak_ptr<const OtherObject> other_object() const; }; Or is this wasteful, having weak_ptrs construct from shared_ptrs every time I want to access an member object? Or have I missed the point completely? ;) One convention I thought I might adopt would be like this: struct MyClass { void set_other_object( shared_ptr<OtherObject> ); // setter weak_ptr<OtherObject> get_other_object(); // non-const getter const OtherObject & other_object() const; // const getter }; Of course, that could be all kinds of dumb for all kinds of reasons I don't know about. :) Cheers, Doug.

[numeric::convert] RoundNearest?

Dear All, I have just discovered Boost.NumericConvert, useful and a nice effort! However, I am missing a RoundNearest function for float to int conversions, with only RoundEven being provided. RoundEven of course does exactly what it is described to do, rounding .5 to 0 and 1.5 to 2, but i'd like the highschool (usual?) behavior of rounding up when a number exactly in the middle is provided. I can implement it myself by slightly modifying RoundEven of course, but I am wondering if I am missing something obvious or whether there is a good reason why this function is not included?
