[program_options] cmake issues

Hey hey, I get a cmake error about a non-existent directory from boost::program_options, namely /include . It only happens with the program_options library. Other libs included in the project are date_time, filesystem and system. A quick peak at /lib/cmake/boost_program_options-1.72.0/boost_program_options-config.cmake compared to the same file from date_time didn't give me any obvious hint though. But I'm not very familiar with cmake. The cmake line in my project to find these Boost packages is this: find_package(Boost 1.58 REQUIRED COMPONENTS program_options filesystem date_time system) Here's the error message when running this with cmake: [...] Imported target "Boost::program_options" includes non-existent path "/include" in its INTERFACE_INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES. [Boost.Test] linking with shared lib (cannot find main)

Hi all, I have been using Boost.Test for about a month now. Big fan so far, except for the atrocious compilation times, hence why I am moving toward using the shared library. using b2 to build and install Boost.Test's libs was simple enough, though after making the noted changes here: https://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_72_0/libs/test/doc/html/boost_test/adv_sce… to customize the module's entry point, g++ cannot find the main executable: Undefined symbols for architecture x86_64: "_main", referenced from: implicit entry/start for main executable ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture x86_64 clang: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation) make: *** [Guest_T] Error 1 I tried digging through the docs for more information, but I came up short. For more context, I have written unit tests for each of my classes. For example, if my classes were A, B, and C, I would have A_T.cpp, B_T.cpp, and C_T.cpp for unit tests. - Should each of the unit tests have their own main() function? (I would think not..) - If not, how do I instruct g++ to first compile main.cpp before attempting to compile anything else? [Boost.Test] duplicate symbol '_main' (manual test registration)

Hi all, As the subject line suggests, I am attempting to manually employ a master test suite that registers several sub test suites. - Each subtest suite has its own header and translation unit. - Each header has a public "init_test_suite()" method and several private "test_case<number>()" methods, all of which are declared static. The public method creates a test suite, adds all the test cases for that translation unit, and adds the suite to the master test suite. This method is intended to be called from main.cpp. Here is a simplified version of my main.cpp: #define BOOST_TEST_DYN_LINK #define BOOST_TEST_NO_MAIN #include <boost/test/unit_test.hpp> #include "A.h" #include "B_T.h" #include "C_T.h" bool register_test_suites() { A_T::init_test_suite(); B_T::init_test_suite(); C_T::init_test_suite(); return 0; } int main(int argc, char *argv[], char *envp[]) { return boost::unit_test::unit_test_main(&register_test_suites, argc, argv); } Here's the issue. I tried removing BOOST_TEST_NO_MAIN from main.cpp but that did not appear to do anything. I also tried removing the static and shared Boost.Unit lib files from my stage/lib directory and rebuilding only the shared version, and that did not work either. Also not that my g++ command does have the expected -L and -l flags for linking with Boost.Test: -L/usr/local/boost_1_72_0/stage/lib -lboost_unit_test_framework I am lost here. boost range dynamic joined_range

Hello, How can I create a Boost Range for multiple vectors without setting any limitation to the number of vector at compile time? Using Boost 1.70 and it is not an option to store all data in one vector. The following code compile on Visual Studio 2017 and will output the number 1 to 9. However, this code is compiled to support 3 vectors inside the foo struct. In order to support 4 vectors I would need to re-compile the code. The number of vectors is only known at runtime. [type-erasure?] callable configurable type-erasure

Hi, In my project I need a callable type-erasure - just like std::function/boost::function, but with a *configurable* small-object optimization (I will use it in a context where dynamic allocation is highly discouraged, so I'm going to make relatively big "static" holder). Is it possible to use TypeErasure library this way? Or maybe we have some other facilities in Boost that could be useful for this purpose? Thanks.

asio and custom socket implementation

Hello! I have a custom network stack (it processed packets in userspace) which exposed some functions in C. It has its own listen, bind, accept functions and many other, and furthermore even custom epoll, select and poll. I want to expand asio in some away, just to support my application with this custom network stack. But I'm a bit confused how I can do it. Should I write my own basic io class? Or should I write custom socket service class like (reactive_socket_service_base)? And is it possible to use basic tcp classes (with any of them)? For anyone that has read my previous post, it will be evident from this request that I've not made any real progress of this, with my level of frustration rising, so I'm turning to the community again for assistance. Is anyone able to provide me with the steps I need to take to be able to download and save a 5 to 10 MB binary file submitted via a POST verb. I have tried many things but I simply can't get it to work, or work out the correct process. I'm not asking for code but the steps I need and where to take them in order to achieve my goal. Due to the size of the uploads I know I need to use a parser and I have search the internet for such an example to no avail so I would appreciate your help with this. The server I'm using is a single strand async implementation, derived from the Beast examples. -- Regards, Bill

Uploading a file to a Boost Beast Server

I am using Beast 277 and code from the advanced server example as the basis for my own one. As part of the functionality I need to allow users the ability to upload a file to the server via their browser. So I had a look at the 'Deferred Body Type' in the examples provided but I can't see how I can make use of it in my own server, although I have tried but fall foul of the SyncReadStream. Is there a working example anywhere of how I can capture and save a file uploaded to the server by a user please. -- Bill

Hi I have been experimenting with some C++20 concepts code. Currently, I have a program which uses beast and asio to do some network file transfers. I was thinking of adding a small piece of code to my code which includes a concept. Prior to doing this, I tried building the beast tests from the 1.72 version with concepts enabled in the compiler. [Newbie][Interprocess] Placing a boost interprocess vector in an existing (not managed) shared memory

Hello Boost-Mailing-List, I have a question about the boost interprocess library - and I hope I can explain it correctly. I looked at the "Quick guide for the impatient" about the interprocess library - but I'm not sure if I can use this for our purpose. The main goal is to insert a STL vector (or different container) in a predefined portion of an already existing shared memory. The main problem is, that we cannot use the managed_shared_memory code from boost, because we rely on a different API to allocate the shared memory between Windows and other devices. Also the container should be placed at a fixed offset inside the created shared memory. I'm a complete newbie with boost and the interprocess library, that is why I'm not sure which interface I have to provide for the interprocess vector to be setup correctly. I hoped I could do something like: new (srh_mem_base + offset) boost::interprocess::vector<allocator>; I tried looking into the headers of the library to get an idea of that, but I honestly got lost. Is iterator_facade still relevant in C++11, C++17?

Considering sequence of C++ versions, around where, if at all, boost::iterator_facade shines less and becomes less relevant? In other words: - If you had to implement iterators in C++11, would you use it? - If you had to implement iterators in C++17, would you use it? Hello I want a collection to store a relationship N to M like so: Item of type A Item of type B A1 B1,B2,B3 A2 B4 A3 B1 and I would like a convenient way to get from a A instance to the list of B instances, and vice versa, from a given B instance to the list of A instances. At runtime, the A objects are created first, then a list of B objects is created. Later, B objects get modified asynchronously and that modification need to update the relevant A instances what container to use? boost::bimap< unordered_set<A*> , unordered_set<B*> > ?

Failing to build Boost

But after installing the package from it’s website and running the ./bootstrap.sh command while being in it’s directory I am getting the following error :- ' Building Boost.Build engine with toolset clang… Failed to build Boost.Build build engine Consult ‘bootstrap.log’ for more details. ‘ And I am hardly able to understand the bootstrap.log file to figure out the problem. [Process] Hardcoding the command for shell

At the command line on most operating system, you can pipe a file into another program and then pipe out into a third program. For example: Take a file from the hard disk, decrypt it, and then unzip it: openssl rc4-40 -salt -d -pass pass:MyPassword < /home/frederick/monkey.tar.gz.encrypted > tar -zxf - I realise, when using Boost::Process, that we can tie the input and output streams of child processes together using 'ipstream', but I want to be able to take the above command and give it directly to the operating system (or to the 'shell'). On Linux x64 and armhf(32-Bit), the following works: child c(search_path("sh"), "-c", "openssl rc4-40 -salt -d -pass pass:MyPassword < /home/frederick/monkey.tar.gz.encrypted > tar -zxf -" ); But should I have to hardcode "sh" and "-c" into my program like that? I have tried using "shell" like this: child c( "openssl rc4-40 -salt -d -pass pass:MyPassword < /home/frederick/monkey.tar.gz.encrypted > tar -zxf -", shell ); but this doesn't work on either Linux x64 or armhf(32-Bit). I thought the whole point of "shell" was that you didn't have to hardcode "sh -c" in Linux or "cmd /c" in MS-Windows. Also if you do some web-searching for how to run a batch file in MS-Windows using boost::process, you'll see that everyone is doing this: context ctx; ctx.environment = self::get_environment(); child c = launch("cmd", "/c batch.bat", ctx); Should it be necessary to hardcode "cmd /c" like that? Hi , Here comes look like a boost library connection problem on a mobile device. The SSL handshake connection problem failures happen on a new smart phone device: Samsung A71 with Android 10. Compare Devices: Pixel 3a (Android 10), Samsung A51(Android 10) or lower than Android 10 devices—> working great without problem We are design an SDK integrated Boost C++ Library with openssl for API calls, but not sure what happen on this mobile phone about boost library connection problem and reason, we are looking for solution or work around to fix this problem. Question about Boost::Interprocess::Allocators.

Hi folks, I got a question about the boost::interprocess::allocators. I am a little confused as to when to use the standard shared memory allocator, and when to use node_allocator, or any of the other ones. What's the advantage and disadvantage of each? I read through the documentation, but it's not making a whole lot of sense. I am mainly using the allocators with the spsc_queue to transfer objects around, which may contain vectors floats or strings. One thing also confused me a little is that the non-standard shared memory allocators are all marked as not thread safe? I am not sure what does this mean. I assume these allocators will be interprocess safe? As in, I don't need to lock the shared memory to allocate memory, right? Maybe it means I can't share these allocators between threads in the same process? Any thoughts/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Da.

Hi Boost.Users, I’m using Boost.Test from Boost 1.72.0 and I’m getting a failure when I perform the following test: auto string_1 = u8”value”s; auto string_2 = u8”value”s; BOOST_TEST(string_1 == string_2); However, the problem goes away when I change the test line to: BOOST_TEST((string_1 == string_2)); What is the reason why Boost.Test is failing without the double parentheses? In case you've not checked the calendar (see below) it's 2020 and a the c++ world has moved on from the issue this macro solved. boost date-time also needs to move forward into the decade with a modernized all header code base . [mp11][mpl] Recurse over type list using mp11's mp_rest

Hello, I am currently learning about mp11 from the docs . While mpl had an iterator functionality to get an alias over a type in mp_list it seemed mp11's mp_rest could be used for a similar task. So I coded up a simple example of recursing over a type list based on some type check , but am quite lost trying to make it work . So a possible pseudo code for the above might be template<typename list> struct recurse{ using rest_of_list=mp_rest<list>; using type = typename std::conditional< mp_empty<rest_of_list>::value, base type here on empty list, typename std::conditional< some "loop" break condition, type on true condition, typename recurse< rest_of_list >::type >::type >::type; } Is this even possible or there exists some other method to do the same in mp11. Hi All, Recently, I have started to get more and more dis-enchanted with Windows. The OS is being dumbed down every step of the way, while the internal complexity keeps going up. The latest and the most fun break-down to date of Windows was last week, the story is long, but in the end in came down to not being able to open the system-settings in the W10-style settings. The W7-style settings are also available, but the API's are overlapping but neither is a super-set of the other, so no way to fix the settings, because the settings themselves are broken (had something to do with display-drivers), way to go MS. In the meanwhile W10 is sorted again, but the whole lot is just getting increasingly fragile, while Fedora is getting increasingly solid (no bt-headphone stuttering, while connected to wifi and look at that brightness/crispness of that Full HD screen I have never seen before under W10!), the latter not upping complexity (2'001 packages to download and install to get from F30 to F31, but that's not complexity). I want to move to Fedora, and for now I'm dual-booting. This involves dumping VS in favor of VSCode (which is flat-packed for Fedora and compadres and is also available on OSX, so there is potentially a large audience), no acceptable other options (other than the one(s) VSCode is based on) are available AFAIKS, gnome-builder seems to have different goals from VS and it appears to be early days. VSCode seems (to me) to be like the best thing since sliced-bread, iff you are writing Python or Rust (Prolog works nicely as well), but C++ is only partially great, the language server works very nicely, code completion, good, but the build-system, proposed, is cumbersome. I would like VSCode to work more like VS, but without the complexity, the endless clicking, drop-down boxes etc etc. It comes down to writing json-files, which is good, but on a per project basis. Having to do this on a per project basis is a problem (that's going backwards from using project-templates in VS, I now in VS can create a new project in 3 seconds flat, and every detailed setting (clang and vc) is set correctly and how **I** want it, and I am running "Hello World!" (the default main in the template) in total 10 secs, this very handy to try things out). I don't want to go backwards. Therefore, I would like to do this on a repo-basis (the only one I have), with, iff required, another json in the project-folder (in the parent repo-folder), i.e.: /repos/ /repos/repo.json /repos/project-one/ /repos/project-one/project.json /repos/project-two/ /repos/project-two/project.json /repos/ ... I (want to) use vcpkg. I structure my projects always the same, all build systems (to my purpose) are basically an over-shoot on the one hand and overly fiddly on the other hand. The task at hand, build the .cpp files in the root of the project folder into one binary. The include files are either in the vcpkg/installed/.../include folder or in a sub-include-folder in the project. Libraries to link are either in vcpkg/installed/.../lib, or vcpkg/installed/.../debug/lib. We are not talking rocket-science here, I presume that many people have simple needs like this/me, or that if building (adopting this structure) becomes easy enough people would adopt such a structure. I would like to have one json to rule them all, and one json to either over-ride the defaults, or to add to the defaults, depending on whether the setting is defined in the repo.json. The repo.json might well be layered itself, to accommodate the various compilers, and/or configuration. For the moment nlohman's json seems perfectly adequate for the job, and it's certainly easy to use (and seems to just use std::maps in a clever way, so it's easy to follow what's going on). It's all about merging, fusing, overlaying those json's as needed (gonna be entertaining, making it smart), and pass that on to some generic API for building. So a new compiler would mean to just add a json-section, or a json-file, fill that with appropriate data (possibly nothing, iff the default-defaults are good), and it should work. The current way VSCode is setup, means that this imaginary build-system can be easily and readily included/used in VSCode (with more json). Yes, just like the working name indicates YABS, it must be as simple as possible, but no simpler. Any input is appreciated, but please refrain from arguing that BS-X does this better (and exists) or BS-Y has a large crowd of followers (and is used for a long period of time), that's water under the bridge, I will pursue this, just to see how far one can get pushing these initial ideas further. Hello, I have used Boost Library a few years but recently I hava a new need. I know that some modules need to be built separately before use.But for my personal need,I need a strict header-only subset so that I can place the trimed boost headers folder in any project and simply build that project. Shared memory between Visual Studio build and MinGW build

Hi folks, got a strange one here. I am trying to get two programs to communicate with each other on Windows 10 via shared memory. Both of them are using Boost 1.72, compiled from the same set of headers. I am only using the shared memory portion of boost. However, one is compiled with Visual studio 2019 community, and the other one is compiled with MinGW 64, g++ version 9.2.0. I have to use MinGW, because I am writing a plugin for another program, which only takes dlls compiled with MinGW. The program compiled with MinGW creates the shared memory and allocates several objects. Then I started the second program that was compiled with Visual Studio 2019. It was able to find and connect to the managed segment. When I am viewing the segment info from Visual Studio's debugger, everything looks ok. However, when I call get_free_memory(). It spits back 18446744073709551104, which is just bizarre. Then, when I tried to find_or_construct on the managed segment. But I don't believe I put a mutex lock on the segment manager from the other end. Everything works just fine if I am doing shared memory between two programs compiled with visual studio. Hello all, I just wanted to let you know that I figured out my problem. It had nothing to do with Boost.Test and had everything to do with my Makefile. My Makefile was literally telling g++ to try and compile main.cpp twice and place the output in bin. - I had defined an implicit rule to compile all .cpp files to .o files, like so: $(ODIR_TEST)/%.o : $(SDIR_TEST)/%.cpp $(CC) $(CXXFLAGS) -c $< -o $@ - And silly me, I wrote the default rule as follows: $(OUTDIR)/$(PROG) : $(SDIR_TEST)/main.cpp $(TEST_OBJS) $(CC) $(CXXFLAGS) -o $@ $^ $(TEST_OBJS) is just a list of all .o files prefixed with ./bin/. As you can imagine, taking $(SDIR_TEST)/main.cpp out of the list of prerequisites completely fixed the issue. I was able to compile and run all 34 tests successfully from one executable. Hurray!! It feels good to have figured this out, especially because I was able to do so on my own, but also makes me feel quite silly. Oh well, now I know. Okay, I have almost completely fixed my problems. I just spent the past hour: - creating test case headers for each test translation unit (don't worry, I sped this up using a macro hehe) - inserting static test case method declarations privately in said headers - eliminating method redefinitions by toying with test translation unit #includes I am ALMOST there. Going to start a new issue, as my current problem is now vastly different from what is stated in the subject line. Consider the original problem for this issue SOLVED. Cheers! [Boost.Python] C++/Python Hybrid App in 2020

Hi all, I read on the Boost.Python FAQ that for Mac OSX users, the library is currently known only to work with the GCC compiler. Thus far, I have been using clang++. I will make the switch, so long that it does increase my odds of encountering difficulties down the road. What do we think here? In the context of front-end dev in Python for a C++ application, is Boost.Python worth making the switch from clang++ to gcc? Would I be better off using something else (i.e. wxPython)? I really love using Boost (I've found use for Test, Signals2, and Asio), but I don't want to let my Boost bias lead me to make a poor choice. I know this question is a tad subjective; I apologize for that. I would like the Python extension to be as seamless as possible, and I am only going to be using Python for front-end code. The interface between the two would likely be with sockets. I am sure I could answer this myself via experimentation, but I wanted to get a feel from the Boost community before doing so. Though, am a bit noobish when it comes to C++14 and beyond :D I am trying to construct a complex data container, which has a vector of floats, on managed shared memory. How can I build pdb files using b2 tool? If I run b2 -a --with-regex toolset=msvc-14.1 debug-symbols=on address-model=64 architecture=ia64 variant=debug it creates the needed lib but no pdb files are created. Thank you Eren

The program is now executing as expected, *thanks to all of your helpful suggestions.* Here's what I did: 1. added --with-chrono to my b2 command, which placed .a and .dylib files for chrono in stage/lib. 2. after invoking the following compiler command: g++ -v -Wall -L ${BOOST_ROOT}/stage/lib -lboost_chrono -lboost_date_time -lboost_system -lboost_system -I${BOOST_ROOT} -o main main.cpp I added to my RPATH using install_name_tool: sudo install_name_tool -add_rpath ${BOOST_ROOT}/stage/lib main >From what I have read from this article here: https://medium.com/@donblas/fun-with-rpath-otool-and-install-name-tool-e3e4… This command appends to the RPATH (@rpath), which is used by LC_LOAD_DYLIB to locate shared library dependencies for the executable. After executing these two commands, my program runs successfully! *Thank you.* However, the learning never ends. That said, I have a bit of an unrelated follow-up question if that is okay. If not, feel free to shun me and I will look elsewhere for an answer. Running these two commands from my terminal is painful and tedious. For troubleshooting, I don't mind, but I want to move toward automation. 1. I tried putting these two commands into a simple script. When I ran the script, main could not be found. *How would I ensure that the main executable from the g++ invocation is outputted into the cwd before the install_name_tool command is executed?* The script I wrote here is just for the sake of experimentation and learning. Ideally, I would use a build tool (i.e. make) for this sort of thing, which I am actually reading about right now. It should be okay to close this issue after my last question is answered/shunned. Okay, so I have made a bit of progress. After building Boost.Asio with: b2 --with-system --with-thread --with-date_time --with-regex --with-serialization stage , and building Boost.Chrono with (replacing bjam with b2): bjam libs/chrono/build The code is now compiling with the following g++ command: g++ -v -Wall -L ${BOOST_ROOT}/stage/lib -L ${BOOST_ROOT}/bin.v2/libs/chrono/build/clang-darwin-11.0/debug/threading-multi/visibility-hidden -lboost_chrono -lboost_date_time -lboost_system -I. -I${BOOST_ROOT} -o main main.cpp However, when I go to run main, the program crashes with the following message: dyld: Library not loaded: @rpath/libboost_chrono.dylib Referenced from: /Users/ajm/Projects/boost-threads/ex1/./main Reason: image not found Abort trap: 6 I suspect that there is something wrong with the Boost.Chrono dynamic library file that was built (probably because of how I built it), but I am not sure what it would be. Hi Richard, I suspect you and David are both correct; I need to link boost_chrono. I found here https://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_72_0/doc/html/chrono/users_guide.html "If BOOST_CHRONO_HEADER_ONLY <https://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_72_0/doc/html/chrono/reference.html#chrono…> is not defined you need to compile it and build the library before use". This aligns with what you are saying. However, the command it mentions to use, >> bjam libs/chrono/build does not work, even when I am in the boost directory (bjam is not defined). In addition, adding -lboost_chrono or -L{BOOST_ROOT} does not help my case. After reading this article about static and dynamic linked libraries https://medium.com/@dkwok94/the-linking-process-exposed-static-vs-dynamic-l… I suspect I must append the path of boost_chrono to my LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable. Am I correct in this thinking? If so, where the heck is boost_chrono located? I could not find a .a or .so file in libs/chrono/ anywhere. Do I need to build the static/dynamic library myself? Hi All, I am attempting to get acquainted with C++ multithreaded network programming. I have a background in such topics within Java but considering how different C++ is, I am starting from ground zero. [Regex]: Can a possible non-matched group be prevented from being reported?

Hopefully I'm not posting this again. Hello, I'm wrapping boost::regex with cython to be able to call it from python. Assuming a "Hello World" text and a regex (\w+)*. This results in two matches. groups ('Hello', 'Hello') lastindex 1 group:0 Hello start 0 end 5 group:1 Hello start 0 end 5 groups ('', '') lastindex 1 group:0 start 5 end 5 group:1 start -1 end -1 I understand, that there is always the main match in group0 and matches from capturing groups in group1 ... As we see, the second match, the zero-length-width match, reports two groups but the second group returns -1. Is it possible to prevent such matches to be reported beforehand? Or is it needed to iterate over the groups to eliminate those? Dear all, Boost.Graph has had no maintainer for some time, but the CMT has been busy fixing bugs none the less. Unfortunately, other than some trivial fixes to docs and some directory refactoring, nothing much has been merged to master in a good while . On the plus side, develop is now in a better tested tested state than IMO it has ever been, however the change set is rather large so the potential to mess up somebodies code is certainly there: https://github.com/boostorg/graph/pull/196. So... this is both a heads up, and a plea: if you have any mission critical code using the Graph library, could you please test against current develop and report any problems? If you don't want to mess about with git, download from https://github.com/boostorg/graph/archive/develop.zip and place zipfile-contents/libs/graph/include in your include path ahead of that for Boost-1.72. Design Reviewers were unanimous in their appreciation for the design. Krystian had the only asterisk about the design, noting that derived class members should ideally be SFINAE-detected, where the library feature would SFINAE where the corresponding required derived feature detection fails. I have a different opinion about this, but we can discuss that elsewhere. 2. Implementation The container_interface destructor and the optional dependency on cmcstl2 were snags for multiple reviewers. Several compile errors were discovered that need to be addressed. 3. Documentation Reviewers found the documentation to be "ok". A common request was for better organization of derived-class requirements, particularly with the container_interface template. Reviewers also lamented the lack of training wheels for the subject matter. 4. Tests Hadriel noted the lack of non-copyable value_type tests, while Daniela noted the lack of Boost.Build support. Hadriel was the only one who commented on the quality of tests ("good"), and the only one who ran them. Arthur did his own testing, to satisfaction. I was able to eliminate most of the error messages during compilation by modifying the contents of boost\asio\detail\config.hpp. I changed this line from: # define BOOST_ASIO_CONCEPT concept bool to # define BOOST_ASIO_CONCEPT concept After the above change, there are still two error messages from boost\asio\async_result.hpp lines 70 and 492. The issue in these lines is they are defining a concept that is also using a concept in one of their arguments which I think is not allowed by the standard. I am not up to speed yet with concept definitions therefore I have not been able to resolve this remaining issue. Hello, I am new to C++ and thus new to Boost. My goal is to serialize a class containing multiple std::valarrays with primitives as content. Hello, I am using boost asio in a cross platform project. The project consists of two libraries, having a C call API in between. Until now, each of those two libraries uses boost::asio internally. Each of these libraries have their own instance of boost::asio::io_service. I now need to implement a change, that requires to pass a connected socket from one library to the other one via the C call API: This is what I want to do it. * Lib1 calls new method connect() in lib2 * lib2::connect() creates a boost::asio::ip::tcp::socket * lib2::connect() connects to a service * lib2::connect() does some async communication with that service. * when the service is initialized, lib2::connect() shall pass the native handle back to its caller (Lib1). * Lib1 then creates a boost::asio::ip::tcp::socket from the native handle I have learned, that there is no way to destroy a boost::asio::ip::tcp::socket without closing the native handle. So, I have to dup() it. No problem on POSIX systems, on Windows I can use a combination of WSADuplicateSocket () and WSASocket () to achieve the same. Everything works fine on Linux, but on Windows, the parts do not work together :) The individual parts are working find. * I can use the boost::asio::ip::tcp::socket to communicate with the service. * I can use WSADuplicateSocket () and WSASocket () to get a 2nd, native handle to the socket * I can use the 2nd, native handle to communicate to the service, even after destroying the boost::asio::ip::tcp::socket instance. * I also can create a working boost::asio::ip::tcp::socket from a native socket handle, created with socket() and connected to a service with connect(). BUT: If I try to create a boost::asio::ip::tcp::socket on the socket created by the WSADuplicateSocket () and WSASocket () sequence, I get an exception. The call to CreateIoCompletionPort() in win_iocp_io_service.ipp, win_iocp_io_service::register_handle() fails with error 87 (Invalid Parameter). I have no idea, why CreateIoCompletionPort() is failing and how to avoid this. Here is a sample program demonstrating my problem. Boost 1.70 Thread library and Sun Studio Pro 12.4

Hi, just to signal an issue that I encounter with the boost (1.70) thread library compiling my library. I got this linking problem: Undefined first referenced symbol in file void boost::detail::set_tss_data(const void*,void(*)(void(*)(void*),void*),void(*)(void*),void*,bool) CMakeFiles/basic.dir/containers/MemoryPool.cpp.o void*boost::detail::get_tss_data(const void*) CMakeFiles/basic.dir/containers/MemoryPool.cpp.o So I investigated and I found that was missing the export keyword for Sun Solaris. I modified the file boost/thread/detail/config.hpp:498 in this way #elif (__GNUC__ == 4 && __GNUC_MINOR__ >= 1) || (__GNUC__ > 4) || (__SUNPRO_CC) and I solved it. After upgrading from boost 1.71 to 1.72 the following simple example now leads to a compilation error: #include <boost/asio/spawn.hpp> int main() { return 0; } The compilation errors point to a missing boost::begin and boost::end functions: /usr/local/include/boost/coroutine/asymmetric_coroutine.hpp:2364:10: error: no member named 'begin' in namespace 'boost'; did you mean simply 'begin'? { return boost::begin( c); } It goes on for a while, but I think the problem is clear. The source of this problem seems that between 1.71 and 1.72 in boost/coroutine/asymmetric_coroutine.hpp the include of boost/range.hpp was removed, which leads to these functions being undefined. To me it looks like a clear bug, but the fact that this include was removed points to some deliberate action. Am I missing something?

Hi, I'm triying to compile the boost 1.70 on Sun solaris using the version 12.3, but I got an annoying error on the test library: "./boost/test/unit_test_log_formatter.hpp", line 39: Error: Identifier expected instead of "__global". For what I can understand it seems that compiler doesn't recognize the keyword __global. Building with CMake?

I see that individual repositories like boostorg/filesystem on Github have a CMakeLists.txt. But the boostorg/boost super repo doesn't have a root CMakeLists.txt. Either this doesn't follow standard CMake structure or there's no way to build with CMake globally instead of bjam. How can I build the boost libraries with CMake?

I see your point, but I'm not advocating here for providing multiple ways of doing the same thing as I agree it might be confusing although I'd also argue that it's already a case with boost.test for example (single header/static/shared library or BOOST_TEST, BOOST_CHECK, BOOST_CHECK_EQ accomplish pretty much the same things but there are also a trade-offs here so it depends) Also, having a possibility for users to do so is valuable IMHO but I wouldn't expose any macros from the library. Yesterday I downloaded boost v1.71.0 The file 'regex/v4/cregex.hpp' contains declarations for functions like 'regexecA' and 'regexecW'. There are similar declarations for regfree, regcomp & regerror. As a long time maintainer of SOCI library, I'm no stranger to the syntax-first library development [1], still, I find the UT's string-based test cases approach as an interesting curiosity with very little practical value. (It falls into similar drawer as the (over)use of emoji in commit messages on GitHub :)). Boost is known as a C++ guinea pigs playground, so any library can make it in. If it does, I just hope Boost will not allow to adopt the UT as a test framework of choice of any/too many of its libraries. [preprocessor] increase tuple size

Hi, preprocessor/config/limits.hpp limits tuple size to 64 elements. Changing the BOOST_PP_LIMIT_TUPLE in this file seems not to have any effect. Is it possible to increase the maximal tuple size? Are there scripts to update dependent macros like BOOST_PP_TUPLE_ELEM_* in preprocessor/tuple/elem.hpp? Thanks in advance

[filesystem] Management of junction on Windows is broken and api is inconsistent

Hello, I am bit disappointed to see that symlink and junctions are still not really properly handled on Windows with boost (and even with standard MS libs but that's another story.) First my environment: Windows 10, VS2019 16.3.7, boost 1.71 (static, x64). I would like to write a small c++ utility that does not use os dependent code to handle files so filesystem seems a good candidate. How multiprecision optimizes allocation?

I have tested boost::mulitprecision::cpp_int and have tested simplest algorithm for int multiplication My test method is several times slower than boost multiplication because I resized product vector to size fist + size second. This allocation take most time, if I use static array on stack, it will be fast for small numbers. What is the riddle of fast comnputing z = x*y in loop for quite small x and y in Boost cpp_int?

Comparing boost::multiprecision cpp_int and mpz_int

cpp_int is more convenient but mpz_int is faster especially for long numbers? What say benchmarks? For mpz_int I must install GMP on Linux or build MPIR on WIndows (build lib_mpir_core2) ? I want make sample benchmark test but I can't convert cpp_it to mpz_int nor iport bits, whereas for cpp_int I can import_bits(x, xBytes.begin(), xBytes.end()) where vector<uint8_t> xBytes; Question: is possible import byte array to mpz_int?

Interest in a Unicode library for Boost?

About 14 months ago I posted the same thing. There was significant work that needed to be done to Boost.Text (the proposed library), and I was a bit burned out. Now I've managed to make the necessary changes, and I feel the library is ready for review, if there is interest. This library, in part, is something I want to standardize. It started as a better string library for namespace "std2", with minimal Unicode support. Though "std2" will almost certainly never happen now, those string types are still in there, and the library has grown to also include all the Unicode features most users will ever need. Serialization of an instance of a Derived Template Class

Hi, I am using Boost to serialize pointers of a base class which points to instances of a derived template class. I am using boost 1.7.0 and running it on Ubuntu 16.04. The source code of the example is available at https://github.com/PritamMG/Boost-Serialization-Example My example has a base class Bar_A (definition available in include/Abstract.hpp) which has a virtual function toStr(). It has two derived classes Bar_B and Bar_C. Bar_B is a template class. I have registered the derived classes in sc/Test.cpp. Class ObjectNew (include/Object.hpp) has a member pointer of type Bar_A which points to instances of classes Bar_B and Bar_C. I get an error as "unregistered class". I am not sure for which class do I get this error message. There is also an issue of non-default. If Bar_B does not have a default constructor, save_construct_data and load_construct_data are over-ridden and there I run into an error "too many template-parameter-lists". How do I define these functions? Thanks, Pritam
