Hello, I get the error below compiling with (Xcode 2.5 / OS X 10.4.11) only for PPC arch. boost_1_53_0/boost/atomic/detail/gcc-ppc.hpp:1204: error: impossible constraint in 'asm' The related code is: static boost::atomic<long> messageCount_(0); number_ = messageCount_.fetch_add(1, boost::memory_order_relaxed); Is this a known bug ? Is there any way to fix it ? Thanks.

[accumulator] with complex domain model

Hello, We've got a complex domain model which must be accumulated and eventually averaged together. I am already overloading the operators for that model. We could roll our own with just the operators we'll need to accommodate, like +, +=, /, etc, but would like to take a gander at Boost.Accumulator first. Would be much better, obviously, rather than having to reinvent the wheel. How doable would it be to accumulate an arbitrarily complex domain model. That's assuming that it is sensible to add, average, and so on, the model, which it is. Regards, Michael Powell

How do I debug a potential endless loop and heap corruption issue involving boost::interprocess "new managed_shared_memory" freezing forever or crashing? I posted this on stackoverflow but I am hopeful that a real expert in Boost::Interprocess may have seen this freeze-up and crash before. [SmartPtr] enable_shared_from_raw / weak_from_raw remains not associated

I'm converting existing code with parent-child object tree to boost shared_ptr/weak_ptr with parents having [now shared] ownership over the children and children having weak reference to the parent. In the existing code a parent usually becomes the children as constructor parameters, and thus I have to extract the weak_ptr to "this" in constructor, which does not work with current boost::enable_shared_from_this implementation. So I am looking to enable_shared_from_raw alternative, which is promising, but unfortunately does not quite work for my case. [boost][thread] Future's scheduler

I'm using boost.thread V4 in my projects because I would like to use futures. I understand that boost 1.53 implementation of future.then() is incomplete but I think it's ok for my current use. However I think there might be something missing. I'm in a case where the user of my library provide his own task scheduler (or executor) which means that when I have functions that return futures, they will use that scheduler. I would like to limit the boilerplate necessary for the user to schedule tasks properly when one task is finished, so I assume the user will use then() with just lambdas or function pointers. The documentation of then() says: - When the scheduler or launch policy is not provided the continuation inherits the parent's launch policy or scheduler. Which is perfect to me as I just have to associate the first future with the scheduler, the user that will use .then() will not have to specify which scheduler to use. My problem is that I can't find how to associate a scheduler to a future (without using .then()). There is apparently no way to do this in boost::future or boost::promise interfaces. Am I missing something? I see that I could use a dummy initial future just to build another future with .then() which would associate the second future with the scheduler, but this is clearly just ductapping. Joel Lamotte

[asio] schedule work on all threads of a single io_service::run() pool?

Greetings -- Is there a way to ask the io_service to distribute a particular handler to every thread that is running the service? My use case is per-thread watchdogs, and I need the worker threads to ping the watchdog on some regular interval (e.g., every 5 seconds). I didn't see anything like this in the docs, and I didn't see anything that looked promising when I looked through the source. (I'll freely admit that the ASIO source is beyond my ability to comprehend it without much more study, however.) I can approximate it by having my worker threads do something like this (pseudocode): while ( true ) { boost::system::error_code ec; io_service::poll_one( ec ); if ( ec == stopped ) break; watchdog::ping(); sleep( 500ms ); // trying to balance lag and wakeups } But that has the obvious problems of lag and more wakeups than I really need. To make this hack work, I think I need some calls that probably don't exist; instead of that "sleep" call, I would like to be able to do something like a timed wait on a condition variable: io_service::all_threads_cond.timed_wait( 5s ); That way, I would only wake up every 5 seconds (to feed the watchdog), unless the io_service sent a "notify_one" to the condition variable and this thread happened to be picked. Extra pings aren't much of an issue, but it would be nice to minimize them. Anyway. I'll continue digging, but if anyone has suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance! Hi, with recently acquired (semi) C++11 compiler (YEY!) I started to think which of BOOST functionality could be replaced by standard counterparts. First obvious candidates are smart pointers. Thing is, there is lots of functions that take boost::shared_ptr<> as arguments (or return them) and it is just not easy to do do. My questions: - does it even make sense to switch to std::shared_ptr<> (should new functions use std instead of boost) - is there a way to easily convert one to another - what are (if any) differences between std and boost versions Regards, Szymon Gatner

I'm using boost::lockfree::spsc_queue in an audio graph to allow audio input samples written from one thread to be read from another. Is there a better way to do this? It seems like there should be a mechanism for just moving the read head forward (atomically) without reading anything, but then I am not sure I completely understand the implications of that on the lockfree model. hello all: I have a fairly large code base that has a lot of modules and systems. The problem is that I have a main "engine" object that holds pointers to a lot of created modules and components. I'm trying to find a more dynamic way to do this, and I thought boost might be able to help. As a result, I have a couple of questions. First, I do a lot of manual adding of features. For example, when I add a new command I have to add a engine->commands.AddCommand(new CMDFoo()); in an initialization method. Does boost provide some sort of mechenism for dynamically handling this? I also plan on splitting up the main "engine" object and setting up the external modules as singletons. They act alone, but again I'd like to dynamically initialize these. Is there a way on entry to dynamically call specific singleton initialization methods, then at exit call their release methods? I'd like to be able to set some sort of trait on these objects at compile-time that the runtime can use, or somehow generate the calls at compile-time. Hi, In http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_53_0/doc/html/atomic/usage_examples.html#bo… I see that pop_all_reverse() is implemented as: node * pop_all_reverse(void) { return head_.exchange(0, boost::memory_order_consume); } Shouldn't the memory order be memory_order_acquire in this example? If I'm not mistaken, at least an acquire is required to see all the writes from the thread that did the release. GCC 4.8 also complains that memory_order_consume is not a correct memory ordering for exchange. Thanks

[Graph] Problem with large vertex ids

Hi all, I'm trying to understand/fix some bugs in pgRouting that use the boost libraries. I know C not not C++, so I can understand most of the more C-ish parts. We have an old bug that I believe is caused when we add an edge and it has large vertex ids or when there is a large number between the min and max vertex numbers. We currently identify the min id number and down shift the ids by that, but that does not help if I add an edge (1)->(100000000). I could renumber all the nodes and then un-renumber them when done if I have to. Questions: 1. is this a known limitiation in Boost graph? 2. is there a different type of adjacency list mechanism that does not have this issue 3. currently the code crashes the database backend, ideally I would like to catch any issues in the C++ wrapper, free memory and return an error code to the C caller so we don't kill the server or leak lots of memory. Interprocess : vectors of vectors

Hello, I'd like to share a vector of vectors (jagged 2D array). The data come from a deserialization. I know the size of the "external" vector. The sizes of the "internal" vectors are discovered during deserialization. I read : http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_52_0/doc/html/interprocess/quick_guide.html… and regarding this line : managed_shared_memory segment(create_only, "MySharedMemory", //segment name 65536); how to set the size (3rd argument), when considering my use case ? Even with a simple vector, and if the number and the types of the elements are know? i woldn't know what size to set for truncation. On VS 2010, a sizeof(vector<int>) is 40; I suppose I have to add it sizeof(int)*nbElements to get the full size. 1. I don't know if this assumption is valid 2. If so, I don't know if it's still valid when using Boost.Interprocess (I suppose it isn't) 3. I don't know how to generalize that to a vector of vectors in order what should be the truncation size. Interprocess : offset_ptr used as array

Hello, I have an offset_ptr named tmpData defined like this : offset_ptr<const byte>* someVariable; indextype index; ... offset_ptr<const byte> tmpData = ((offset_ptr<const byte>*)someVariable)[index]; data points actually to the beginning of an array. The original code, without shared memory was : byte* data= ((byte**)m_someVariable)[index]; The problem is that I have to translate that : indextype* data = (indextype*)&(tmpData[1]); The adress of the second element is taken though the & adress. But when tmpData is an offset_ptr, the [] operator returns a reference, and I can apply the & operator. Is there any solution that copying the pointer to temporary variable, and increment this one ? Hi friends, I have to run distributed_delta_stepping with graphs in CSR fromat. So I tried with "distributed_shortest_path_test.cpp" located at "<top of boost source tree>/libs/graph_parallel/test/ ". It reads a random graph in adjacency list format. But I have to run DIMACS_USA graph in CSR format. So, I edited the code but it resulted in following errors. I guess I am facing problems while representing a graph in CSR format.. Statechart timer extension and new version of visualizer

Hi, I have implemented timers for library Boost Statechart. It was tested only on Linux because it uses POSIX threads. It is extension that replaces fifo_scheduler and fifo_worker with only one class Scheduler. That means that it is suitable only for asynchronous state machines. boost::variant & c++11

Hi - I seem to have run into a regression with boost::variant from 1.48 to 1.53. With C++11 enabled, using g++, the following code seems to confuse variant's constructor selection machinery: if you look at the line after #ifndef WAR, the implicit conversion isn't happening, and so boost::variant attempts to convert construct from extract<my_variant> to A or B. It should instead copy construct from the output of extract<my_variant>'s implicit conversion to my_variant. If I force an explicit conversion, this problem doesn't occur. If I don't enable c++11, this problem doesn't occur. With Boost 1.48, this problem doesn't occur. Any advice from the list as to why this behavior changed? Constraining unordered template constructors

I have a class that I want to have accept 0-5 arguments in any order for it's constructor. Each argument is a const references to one of 5 possible class types. All arguments must be distinct in type, passing the same type twice in an error. Passing an argument that is not one of the 5 supported types is also an error. How do you go about implementing something like this? I figure first you have to create a constructor for each arity but then how do you constrain the constructors as described above? directory monitoring with dynamically added dirs

I'm trying to dynamically add directories from a config file before I enter my programs main loop using the ASIO dir monitor example. I've not been able to understand the internals yet. Below is my current iteration of what I'm trying. I have been able to get the simple examples running just like in the async.cpp file. But I can't get adding dirs dynamically working and was hoping someone could offer suggestions. [msm] Injecting events to FSMs from different translation units

Hi, I am using boost msm to design state machines for a relatively large project. The documentation online is pretty good and I was able to figure out most features by looking at the sample code (thanks!). My particular application has multiple FSM instances active at any given time, and what I would like to do is to be able to generate events for a particular FSM instance from different translation units. But I'd like to keep the the compile time at a minimum. I found an answer from Christophe for a similar question sometime back here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10899641/boost-msm-class Since, I have multiple FSM instances it would not help to have a singleton class with the FSM shared_ptr. Compile error using boost 1.53.0, clang, libstdc++ and C++11

Hi, at the moment I try to compile a project that is using boost on my mac. The project is using c++11 features so I need to use clang with libstdc++. I compiled boost with: |./b2 toolset=clang cxxflags="-stdlib=libc++" linkflags="-stdlib=libc++" | It seems that trying to include "boost/date_time/gregorian/gregorian.hpp" leads to the compile error below. Googling I found some remarks about char16_t and char32_t types new in C++-11. Is that compiler/library combination in boost not supported yet? Has anyone successfully got that combination to work? Hi. I'm trying to use boost package in Eclipse platform. In this line of code: boost::this_thread::disable_interruption di; Although boost-1.41.0-17 is installed and I have included boost/thread.hpp in the code, I receive the this error: undefined reference to 'boost::this_thread::disable_interruption::disable_interruption() I'm using CentOS 6 and gcc compiler. Anyone knows what's causing this problem?

Dear boosters, I work with Cinder, creating an audio mixing app. Having recently reached a milestone, I've upgraded from Vs2010 to Vs2012 as well as to the latest Cinder (0.8.5) which also upgraded boost to 1.53. While porting some code over that uses Serialization, I suddenly provoked the following compiler error: error C4308: negative integral constant converted to unsigned type pointing me at the following code in in the boost print.hpp: template <class T> struct print : mpl::identity<T> #if defined(__MWERKS__) , aux::print_base #endif { #if defined(BOOST_MSVC) enum { n = sizeof(T) + -1 }; #elif defined(__MWERKS__) void f(int); #else enum { n = # if defined(__EDG_VERSION__) aux::dependent_unsigned<T>::value > -1 # else sizeof(T) > -1 # endif }; #endif }; It's specifically the 'enum { n = sizeof(T) + -1 };' which triggers the error. I simplified my code, and it seems to occur regardless of what I do when I use the << operator to serialize the simple object I'm working with. Googling the issue turned up someone else in the same boat who received the same message as a warning, rather than a distinct *error*. The advice given was among other things to issue the following macro: (http://lists.boost.org/boost-users/2010/05/59103.php) BOOST_CLASS_TRACKING(mySimpleObject, boost::serialization::track_never) My question is simply if someone else has experienced something similar after upgrading to vs2012 or perhaps knows what is causing it? Redefining new, to detect memory leaks, causes issues in boost

Hellos, I recently upgraded to vs2012 and am making liberal use of its leak detection described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/x98tx3cf.aspx However, I'm running into a spot of trouble. I rely on the C++ style new commands to allocate memory and as such, I make use of redefining this call in order to get a specific file and line, at the end of my programs execution, to where I allocated memory which is leaking. It's super effective! According to the link above, the new command is to be redefined thusly: #ifdef _DEBUG #ifndef DBG_NEW #define DBG_NEW new ( _NORMAL_BLOCK , __FILE__ , __LINE__ ) #define new DBG_NEW #endif #endif // _DEBUG However, boost no likey. I get a syntax error in 'initializer.hpp' at the following line (122) of code: new(dest) value_T( boost::detail::variant::move(operand) ); ... saying it no longer knows what 'dest' is. A bit puzzling to be honest. I'm no C++ artisan, so I'm a bit stumped as to how I should elegantly avoid this issue. I really don't need boost to use this redefined new, as I'm sure it's as leak proof as can be, but I'm not sure if it's possible to somehow define my way out of that jam? Or perhaps change the definition so that the line no longer results in a syntax error. Any ideas? Regards, Lasse

Access violation while deleting ssl socket

I just upgraded the boost libraries from 1.43 to 1.53 and switched from a 32bit build to a 64bit build. The code worked fine before the upgrade but in 1.53 I am getting an out of access violation while trying to delete the sslSocket. Here is a sample of the code: ssl::stream<ip::tcp::socket>* sslSocket = (ssl::stream<ip::tcp::socket>*) NULL; sslSocket = new ssl::stream<ip::tcp::socket>(io_service, ctx); sslSocket->lowest_layer().connect(*endpoint_iterator, error); sslSocket->handshake(ssl::stream_base::client); sslSocket->shutdown(); delete sslSocket; //This throws the exception I also tried doing this and several variations of it but I still have the same issue: sslSocket->lowest_layer().cancel(); sslSocket->lowest_layer().shutdown(boost::asio::ip::tcp::socket::shutdown_both,EC); sslSocket->lowest_layer().close(); delete sslSocket; I read through the documentation and the examples but didn't see anything that describes how to do this properly. Does anyone know why this wouldn't work or the proper way to close the SSL connection? I can provide more of the code if that would be helpful. Hello, I create a shared_memory_object, truncate it to set its size, and then create a mapped_region. I would like to know it would be possible to append new data, by applying a new truncation. Also, is it possible to have a second name pointing in the same memory, but with an offset ? Thanks.

weird problem with mutexes on boost::interprocess

It seems we found a weird bug with boost interprocess, some internal problem on the scoped_lock is generating a deadlock. A simple correct usage like void foo() { scoped_lock<t_mutex> lock(amutex); ..... } is producing the deadlock when running 100 concurrent processes after changing to void foo() { amutex.lock(); ..... amutex.unlock(); } the problem disappeared the code on scoped_lock looks correct, and works just fine with a lower load, so, I guess this is something coming from the compiler, which is gcc 4.4.7 under linux did anyone get similar problems? thanks

Hi! I've a problem, with Boost Graph Library and gcc 4.7. I have a legacy graph representation that i like to wrap with a graph adaptor to access boost graph algorythms. 1: I've created a graph adaptor, that contains my legacy graph. This is a simple struct: struct legacy_graph_adaptor { legacy_graph_adaptor(const legacy_graph& g) : graph(const_cast<legacy_graph& >(g)) { } legacy_graph& graph; }; 2: Next step was a vertex_iterator and an edge_itreator, where I redefined the equal, dereference, increment, etc members. (If it's not necessary i'm not going to copy the code here.) 3: Created traits for adapted graph. In particular, for dealing with "out" parameters of OS API calls or legacy code, I want to naturally give my buffer as a vector.data(). But it is annoying to me that it needs to zero out the whole buffer just to pass it to code that is expecting uninitialized area for output, anyway. Making "uninitialized" part of this class is natural since the hopefull stack space is used in the same context. Here is what I ended up doing: auto_buffer<wchar_t> buf; buf.uninitialized_grow (buf.capacity()); // start out with as much as fits on the stack (256 elements). int result= ::GetWindowTextW(hWnd,buf.data(),buf.size()); I had to figure out that capacity was the correct way to get the stack-based size, but that's a documentation thing. I called uninitialized_grow rather than uninitialized_resize because I know it was originally zero; the passing of the delta which looks like the new size too bothers me a little. But my real point is that I can't command an uninitialized size on the constructor. The normal constructor arguments work the same as vector, and can take an initial size and a value that defaults to T(). It would be much clearer and simpler for this use case to say what I want directly on the constructor. I think it would be natural to give a special flag where the value would normally go: auto_buffer<whcar_t> buf1 (500 /*count*/, L' ' /* value */); // same as std::vector auto_buffer<wchar_t> buf2 (500, non_initialized); // looks like a "value", but overloaded ctor. and it would be unambiguous to give the non_initialized flag alone, taking the maximum pre-allocated size. auto_buffer<wchar_t> buf3 (non_initialized); And, as a further trick, it is a cheap failsafe to initialize just the last element with a sentinel value. This is not as inefficient as needlessly initializing the whole buffer, but adds a cheap fallback just in case the call that was supposed to write to the buffer didn't to anything. auto_buffer<wchar_t> buf4 (non_initialized, L'\0'); // the last index is set to zero In general, any signature that takes a T after the special non_initialized_t takes it to be a sentinal initialization, and two such arguments are for last and first index (only). Or, since the same value ought to be used for both, maybe it always does first and last, or uses different special flag names for non_initialized-except-for... With the ctor signature it is clear what is being done, and I don't need to explicitly reference the stack-based size separately from the template argument that gives it. And, it generates simple direct code to set it up that way rather than setting it and changing it around again. I don't think the optimizer would figure out that capacity() at this point means the stack-based size, and then optimize out the large case from the resize code! Meanwhile, should the class support uninitialized sizing ONLY for types that support it? That is, PODs, primitives, classes without destructors, and in general those that are marked as such via a metaprogramming type trait.

Boost under Linux, invoking bootstrap

I am trying to get started using Boost under Linux in order to test my TTI library using the latest trunk. So first I try using bootstrap with: ./bootstrap.sh --prefix=~/bin It completes succesfully but nothing is put in my home bin subdirectory. Did I do something wrong ? Invoking ./b2 --help does seem to work.

Access violation while deleting ssl socket

I just upgraded the boost libraries from 1.43 to 1.53 and switched from a 32bit build to a 64bit build. The code worked fine before the upgrade but in 1.53 I am getting an out of access violation while trying to delete the sslSocket. Here is a sample of the code: ssl::stream<ip::tcp::socket>* sslSocket = (ssl::stream<ip::tcp::socket>*) NULL; sslSocket = new ssl::stream<ip::tcp::socket>(io_service, ctx); sslSocket->lowest_layer().connect(*endpoint_iterator, error); sslSocket->handshake(ssl::stream_base::client); sslSocket->shutdown(); delete sslSocket; //This throws the exception I also tried doing this and several variations of it but I still have the same issue: sslSocket->lowest_layer().cancel(); sslSocket->lowest_layer().shutdown(boost::asio::ip::tcp::socket::shutdown_both,EC); sslSocket->lowest_layer().close(); delete sslSocket; I read through the documentation and the examples but didn't see anything that describes how to do this properly. Hello, I try to use graphviz. But when I add "#include <boost/graph/graphviz.hpp>" to the example "http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_53_0/libs/graph/example/dijkstra-example.cpp", I get a compilation error. I use boost 1.53 and vs2012 express with command line option "/link libboost_graph-vc110-s-1_53.lib libboost_regex-vc110-s-1_53.lib". [Intrusive] Obtaining end iterator from value reference

Hi all, is it possible with boost::intrusive::slist to obtain the end() iterator from a value object present in a list? Using s_iterator_to() I can obtain a valid iterator from a value reference but i can't forward iterate from it without knowing the end(). Reading the slist code I found the method slist_iterator::get_container but since is a detail implementation, I prefer not to use it. I also found that a default construct iterator is almost equivalent to end() for linear slists and should work just fine. I'm a little confused on the correct way to lazily call a boost::function in a phoenix expression. Errors compiling Boost.Log on OS X

Hi all, I'm trying to build the recently-added-to-trunk Boost.Log on OS X and smacking into an error when it includes unsupported.cpp. I've google'd around a bit and seen from the macports guys that Boost.Context doesn't currently build for 32-bit architecture, but I can't even get it to build for just 64-bit. Has anyone had success yet with Boost.Log on OS X, or has some insight into how to get this working before it makes it into 1.54? boost::result_of and pure virtual functor leads to compile error

Hi list, I am necountering an error when trying to use boost::result_of on a pure virtual base class. minimal example: struct Test{ typedef int result_type; virtual int operator()(int)=0; }; typedef boost::result_of<Test(int)>::type type; leads with gcc 4.8 (and with every compiler i know of) to the following output: Error: »type name« declared as function returning an abstract class type typedef boost::result_of<Test(int)>::type type; (actually in the original code where this showed up, gcc compiles it just fine only every other compiler fails, but in this very simple example, even gcc get's the message...) The weird part about it is if I un-comment the serialization of the base class in my example it works, otherwise it does not. The strawberry perl c compiler, an irrelevant sjlj build, had snuck in somewhere along the line and had been picked up by bjam. As it turns out, I had to download TDM-GCC-4.7.1, mingw & sjlj to build against Qt5. Boost, and my engine's code were happy to use Mingw 4.6.2, dwarf build, but once the libraries had compiled alright, complained badly during my code's compilation when I tried gcc 4.7.1. Spent the rest of the day fixing up windows IO and all those enchanting little differences between OS designs :P I now have at least four MinGW toolchains but I'm not looking for trouble. Archie

I'm trying to compile the Boost trunk with gcc 4.4.6, which is the version currently packaged for the RHEL/CentOS 6.x series. In doing so, I'm running into a compiler error that was documented previously on the SourceForge forum for Boost.Log: http://sourceforge.net/projects/boost-log/forums/forum/710022/topic/6695918 It was indicated there that this was unlikely to be fixed. Is there any kind of workaround available? Even if there was some functionality that didn't work but the library would still build, that would be better. Hi, I have compiled boost_1_53_0 using bjam on windows with MinGW (gcc-4.6.3). I am using CodeBlocks for IDE and have successfully linked against Qt5. Attempting to link against libboost_serialization produces undefined references to things like sjlj_unwind and archive_exception. What's going wrong? Do I need to flag the compiler to change exception strategy? Thanks in advance. Archie

Hi, I get a crash when trying to instantiate a boost::regex during program shutdown. [units] how to use scaled_base_unit?

Hi, at this time I start to understand boost.units. Following the doc http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_53_0/doc/html/boost_units/Units.html#boost_… scaled_units are useful. But I didn't found use cases in the test or examples. E.g. https://svn.boost.org/svn/boost/trunk/libs/units/test/test_output.cpp show how to typedef this, but no usage. I try to map metric/si and imperial/us length to an intrinsic length using integer scale factors to avoid double representation uncertainly. Using BOOST_UNITS_DEFINE_CONVERSION_FACTOR I can convert meter and inch to the intrinsic length. But what about mm/um and thou/mil etc? For this I did consider scaled_base_unit. I like to convert between all of them. Since the dimensions are constant, no runtime conversation are required (as the dollar/euro example it shows). Later area calculations based on the intrinsic length are required, convertible also to metric/si and imperial systems. Thanks, Olaf

[Xpressive] Problem with more than 49 named captures

Hi all, I am having trouble getting more than 49 named captures to work with boost xpressive 1.49.0. I extended the default mark_tag like so: boost::xpressive::mark_tag s10(10); boost::xpressive::mark_tag s11(11); boost::xpressive::mark_tag s12(12); … boost::xpressive::mark_tag s48(48); boost::xpressive::mark_tag s49(49); together with a regular expression that uses these named captures: (skip rather long expression)… (s49= +(boost::xpressive::set[boost::xpressive::range('0','9')|'-'])) This works as long as I stick to only using up to s49, as soon as I start using s50 the regular expression no longer seems to match. Is there anything obvious I am missing before I start digging deeper? Thanks, Mike

But i want a similar executable/binary for Solaris 10/11.I'm using g++. I've installed boost in both solaris 10 and 11. But how i'm getting a wierd linker error with too big error message. Dear All, I built boost_1_53_0 using the intel compiler (__INTEL_COMPILER is 1310). It seemed to work great. However, when I try to compile my app (also using intel compiler) I get the following error: ../core/four_multi.cpp(675): error: class "boost::asio::ip::basic_resolver_iterator<boost::asio::ip::tcp>" has no suitable copy constructor The code has previously compiler and worked great using the gcc. [serialization] Custom Shared pointer

hi i have couple questions about boost serilazation regarding shared pointers. First off i was wondering if boost::shared_ptr has working serilazation code? if so maybe i can learn from there. What's im trying to do is save fairly simple custom shared-pointer class. All it should take is to save the pointer in the class and ref count as well the Parent variable which is pointer to the parent shared-pointer. what needs to be considered for this? should i disable tracking for the shared-pointer and does the pointer stored in the shared-pointer require some special considerations? thanks.

boost.log linker issue

Hello, I have previously successfully compiled and built the dynamic boost.log libraries with MSVC-8.0, along with a few test programs that were linking to the boost libs dynamically. The test program was built and ran fine. I have now built boost.log static libraries with MSVC-10.0 without issue, yet my test program is now failing to build when attempting to link statically. See attachment for specific errors. It seems as though the project is including the headers with the <dllimport> tag, though my MSVC-10.0 project does not have BOOST_ALL_DYN_LINK or BOOST_LOG_DYN_LINK macro defined. Interprocess cleanup

I'm running unit tests using Boost::test that starts up Boost threads, shared memory, and message queues. There are multiple tests in the suite. While writing a test it can fail prematurely and leave behind shared memory and message queues. Then when I run the tests again I can have trouble with mutexes, etc that already exist. I am working under Windows but eventually will be moving to Linux. Is there some way (other than rebooting) to force a cleanup of all the system objects that are created in the background? Or even a way of determining what has outlived its usefulness? [serialization] counting the xml cost

Hello, Basically, I'd like to find out how well the boost serialization facilities handle Xml and to what degree, robustness, etc. I am counting the cost of serialization for our model. We'll need do some basic CRUD type operations on our model objects throughout our system, and I want to use a nicely loosely coupled solution. Xml is the thought at first; I've also considered a lightweight database like SQLite which transfers easily for patches, upgrades, and other transfers. Looking at the boost serialization facilities, one keyword was emphasized in the tech-agnostic serialization documentation. Tech meaning whether this is a binary file, text, JSON, Xml, whatever. The keyword being that serialization and load occur in the same order. Enter the desire for Xml. One common problem in .NET C# land, at any rate, is that reads are commonly known as being asymmetric from writes. That is, not guaranteed to happen in the same order, composition, whatever. That is, you may see attributes in one instance, where as in another the element might have been broken out. Such as: <myObject name="something" /> and <myObject><name>something</name></myObject> are technically the same. The serializer might scoff at that, but I'm not sure the W3C suggest otherwise. Linker (/IDE) errors working with filesystem

Hello, I'm a novice (perhaps dangerously intermediate) boost user and have what I think is a linker error folding in filesystem, which would be a great thing to use for, well, file-system-y concerns in our software. However, am running into some strange conflicts between std::string and boost::filesystem. I can either use one or the other, but not both, without (what are possibly) "false positives" in the CodeBench IDE. We are targeting ArchLinux running on ARM cross compiled. As far as I know, I accepted the defaults building boost, excepting for python, etc. Linking against boost statically. I also ran across this article and wonder how I can ensure that we're linking in a correct order: http://www.boost.org/boost-build2/doc/html/bbv2/faq/liborder.html, if that's a plausible culprit / solution. I seem to recall there being auto-link support, but I'm not sure this will work in a toolchain like GCC (4.7.2). I want to say that possibly there is an IDE confusion using boost::filesystem with std::string, but is a tool chain issue not a boost issue. Regards, Michael Powell

Are there any other solutions of graceful destruction of boost::asio::deadline_timer to be sure that after this destruction WaitHandler will never be called? Recommended linker order

Hello, So I am reading the article: http://www.boost.org/boost-build2/doc/html/bbv2/faq/liborder.html But I am not clear what this means? For instance, I'd like to put filesystem to use, but was finding linker errors there. Either could use filesystem issues, or std::string issues (<string>), but not both, for instance. No clue how that could even be possible. Build was also failing along similar lines, semantic and/or what I gather are linker failures. So... I get to specify the order CodeBench for Linux targeting ARM, wants to link libraries. Is there a specific order to include boost static libs that keeps the system happy? If so, what? Thank you... heap handle invalidation

Hi, I'm using a mutable heap, in particular a mutable d_ary_heap, for the priority queue in Djikstra's algorithm. When does a handle become invalid? I don't know how a d_ary_heap is implemented, but if it's like the standard array-backed binary heap, then I would expect invalidation of many handles whenever an item gets popped or an item gets increased or decreased. I need references to the elements in order to update them, so if the invalidation I expect does happen as I describe, how can I get permanent references/pointers/iterators to the elements? Perhaps another implementation besides d_ary_heap? Although I haven't profiled the performance, I think even though something like the fibonacci heap may have permanent handles, pointer chasing, more frequent cache misses and frequent dynamic memory allocation may be detrimental to performance. Which heap implementation supports key increase without handle invalidation? Josh

boost.log: update filters at runtime

Hello, I've been working on integrating the boost logger into my application for the past few days now. I'm looking for the ability to update filters at runtime based on settings from a file or other source. A specific use-case would be the ability to decrease a severity level during a debugging session for more detailed log reports without having to restart the application. Is there anything like this available in the current release? Is there any plan to incorporate this kind of functionality in future releases? [Range] size and list, for example.

I know this has come up before, so I'm really seeking to discover the current situation. boost::size( std::list<...> ) fails because the implementation of size is end - begin. I know I could use distance, but am surprised size(list) doesn't work out of the box. * So, is it correct that size(list) doesn't work? * Does distance(begin, end) specialise for random access iterators to O(n) performance? * Why doesn't size similarly specialise? [filesystem] Using filesystem with std::string

Hello, Or vice versa. When I include <boost/filesystem.hpp> and <string>, uses of std::string fall over it seems. As long as I do not include filesystem.hpp, it's okay. Would like to use the filesystem features if possible, but I also want to keep track of some strings, possible override operator<< for various requirements (TBD). Is this a boost bug? Or what do I need to do to make it work? I am building against a static library, multithreading AFAIK, targeting ArchLinux ARM. Building against a GCC 4.7.2 toolchain (CodeBench). Thank you... You could use a closed plus and a custom value for infinite distance. You would need to create a closed plus that is a bit more robust than the closed_plus currently in BGL, e.g.: struct robust_closed_plus { robust_closed_plus (double d) : d(d) {} double operator(double a, double b){ return (d-a < b) >? d : a+b; } double d; }; Then you can use dijkstra_shortest_path, using your travel distance as infinity. robust_closed_plus plusser(travel_distance); boost::dijkstra_shortest_paths(m_ugraph, *vertex_iterator_begin , boost::predecessor_map(predecessorMap) .distance_map(distanceMap) .distance_compare(plusser) .distane_inf(travel_distance); This should already give you the correct result, but will also make you visit more vertices than necessary. Boost for GPUs

Hi All I am new to using Boost libraries. I have written a function that makes use of the boost for computing the inverse of the cummulative distribution function of the beta distribution (quantile) in C++ which works fine. Now I would like to use the same function on the GPU, but I cannot call a host function from device. Are there any alternatives to use boost functions on GPU? Looking forward to your reply. [timer] Error linking boost::chrono::steady_clock::now

Hello, I get the following linker error. Description Resource Path Location Type undefined reference to `boost::chrono::steady_clock::now()' detector line 0 C/C++ Problem I am using Boost 1.53. A little unclear what the docs are talking about. If I can go header only, and if it is advantageous to do so, I'd like to. http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_53_0/doc/html/chrono/users_guide.html#chron… However, not sure what else we're talking about here, when it talks about building boost with buggy header only support (?). Need good semi-high-res timer

Hello, I am looking for a semi-high-res timer solution. Ideally, should be clock-agnostic, shouldn't see non-deterministic behavior in the face of NTP or GPS system or local time updates. Thus far attempts to use boost/timer/timer.hpp have been frustrated by what seems like the common occurrence linker issues. I've defined to use header only, but that doesn't seem to have fixed it. Or possibly I need to rebuild boost with that option? Or something along these lines. I'd like to use boost if that feature is available, and avoid clock-bound timers if at all possible.
