"Correct" way to return empty shared_ptr?

What is the 'correct' way to return a NULL/empty shared_ptr? For example, this works <snippet> shared_ptr<int> maybe_get_a_pointer() { shared_ptr<int> p; return(p); } </snippet> but seems 'klunky'. I've clearly missed something in the docs/examples somewhere. Can someone point me in the right direction? TIA

The libraries specified with -l are part of the file list, same as the object files and any library files specified by their full file name. The nasty thing is that backwards references are only resolved in object files, not in library files, so library files must be listed after the object files (and any other library files) that reference them. You need to take the libraries from LDFLAGS (perhaps into another variable) and put them at the end of the command line. Also you should be using CXX and CXXFLAGS for compiling C++ code, not CC and CFLAGS. Since you're building a pthreads program, you *must* define the macro _REENTRANT to get a threadsafe C library. As a shortcut, include -pthread in CXXFLAGS (this causes linking with -lpthread, too).

Signal/Slot copy semantics.

I have a problem with the sematics of the the signal connect method. UBLAS and algorithms

Hi, I'm looking to solve some matrix problems using conjugate gradient methods. CGS and GMRES to name a couple. I see where the matricies can be stored by the UBLAS classes, but I don't see any of the algorithms available in boost. Are they available somewhere? I've looked at packages like IML++ and see them there, but they appear to use different storage classes. Can anyone point me in the direction of where some boost compatible algorithms are? Trouble grokking iterator adaptors

Hi there, I could really use the features provided by iterator adaptors part of the library, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting a nested set of adaptors to compile. In one case, I'd like to return an iterator into std::map< std::string, boost::shared_ptr< ApiOption > >, and have it return references to options in which option->isTemplate( ) is false. Conceptually, I'd like a filter_iterator->indirect_iterator- >projection_iterator chain. I've been using this typedef to project onto the second member of the pair: typedef boost::projection_iterator_pair_generator< select_second< std::string, boost::shared_ptr< ApiOption > >, OptionMap::iterator, OptionMap::const_iterator > OptionMapIterators; but I've been at a loss to add indirect_iterator and filter_iterator into the mix. The unholy triumvirate of Boost, MacOS X & gcc

Does any one have recent experience with compiling / installing Boost on a Mac using gcc? A brief vox-poll seems to say that most everyone on the Mac uses it with CodeWarrior, manually including it in their project. However I'm more interested in using gcc / ProjectBuilder, and distributing the source code to my programs. So, I need to know if my end-users are going to have any problems installing Boost? My attempts have been been discouraging. The first install of Spirit almost immediately consumed all the memory on my machine and thrashed. Installation of the full Boost failed with link errors reporting "unrecognised option shared". Editing this option out of the regex makefile, lead to the next problem, failures with the unittests. Suspecting I was missing something obvious, I handed the problem over to someone else who spend a few days following the same trail, eventually commenting out the unittests. Sure, I could include the boost source with every program I use it in, but this strikes me as untidy and means every time Boost updates, I have to update the x separate copies on my disk. Newbie boost help needed..

Hi, I am totally new to boost and just wanted to ask a couple of simple questions... First, I compiled the boost libraries okay with msvc. I updated the include path in my vc++ 6.0, and can include boost files via #include <boost/xxx.hpp>. So far so good! I wanted to try some things out, like boost's mersenne twister random number generator. I first did this: #include <boost/random/mersenn_twister.hpp> And got no errors. Then I read there was a random.hpp for convenience so I changed this to: #include <boost/random.hpp> And received as a reward complaints: d:\dev\devproject\boost_1_30_0\boost\random\uniform_01.hpp(44) : error C2275: 'std::numeric_limits<`template-parameter258'>::is_integer' : illegal use of this type as an expression d:\dev\devproject\boost_1_30_0\boost\random\uniform_01.hpp(95) : see reference to class template instantiation 'boost::uniform_01<UniformRandomNumberGenerator,RealType>' being compiled There were 6 of these errors. What am I doing wrong? Also, is there a way to include the boost libs in vc++ where I get the autocompletion if I use boost:: ? It is very difficult to figure out how the libs are supposed to be used (for me) by looking at example code or the documentation. boost::thread warnings?

I got some warnings when compiling my program (see below). I am using Visual Studio C++ 6 and STLport 4.5.3 I've seen some questions about this issue in the mailing list, but did not get the feeling that I understand what is going on and when I can safly ignore them? Problems linking with Boost 1.29.0 thread lib, Linux/g++ 3.2.2 -r2

Failing to link a program with libboost_thread, even though I supply the -lboost_thread directive in the makefile. I'm kind of new to makefiles, having only used Visual C++ in Windows untill recently. I 've tried changing things around a bit, doesn't help. A minimal test program I wrote links fine with boost_thread though. My makefile looks like this: CC=g++ CFLAGS=-g LDFLAGS=-L/home/sub/Libs/alsa/lib -lasound -lboost_thread -lpthread alsatest: alsatest.o $(CC) $(LDFLAGS) -o alsatest SmallObj.o alsatest.o alsatest.o: smallobj.o $(CC) $(CFLAGS) alsatest.cpp -c smallobj.o: $(CC) $(CFLAGS) /usr/include/loki/SmallObj.cpp -c clean: rm -f *.o alsatest g++ complains about the same missing references no matter if I include the -lboost_thread or not. If someone could point out what I'm doing wrong I'd be grateful : )

I haven't gone and looked at the boost ml archives to track the reason for this down, but the addition of stream.unsetf(std::ios::skipws) in lexical_cast caused some of our code to fail. I've commented it out locally, and was wondering why it was decided this is more appropriate default behavior. I'm currently writing some code for a client where I make extensive use of dynamic_bitsets to determine very quickly which options are appropriate based on a number of criteria. I set up before hand dynamic_bitset for each person, place, and thing which are then bitwise AND'd together to determine where the points of intersection are. What I need is something with an iterator syntax that returns the indexes whose values are set. I could of course just loop through looking for set values, but that seems silly when you think that entire blocks of bits can be skipped if the block has a value of zero. So my questions is, before I set out to write some code, has somebody already done this? It seems like a logical use of dynamic_bit set so it does not seem implausible. If not, any suggestions or warnings? Thanks, Andy

Understanding MPL

I am trying to understand how the MPL library works. I first read "The Boost C++ Metaprogramming Library" by Aleksey Gurtovoy and David Abrahams. When I get to Basic Usage I see this: template< typename Condition , typename T1 , typename T2 > struct if_ { typedef /*unspecified*/ type; }; I am really having trouble understanding the next to last line. How can "typedef type;" be a valid C++ construct and, if it is, what does it mean ? I always though that a typedef must specify an actual type but I don't see any in the expression above.

Hi All, I am having trouble with regex on an Alpha-Dec with Compaq's compiler 6.3. Without -DBOOST_REGEX_NO_EXTERNAL_TEMPLATES the compiler complains about some templates. I also tried to compile regex with gcc, but again I could not link the application. Linking gcc-compiled (c++) libraries with Compaq's object files and vice versa does not seem to work in generall. Building everything with gcc failed due to seome other incompatibilities. Converting boost::shared_ptr< const T > to boost::shared_ptr< T >

I have persistent objects in my appplication and their factory dishes out only constant references (more precisely only copies of a shared_ptr< const T >). In order to make the persistent objects writable, an underlying record needs to be locked in the RDBMS. A friend template instantiation (a WritablePointer< T >) controls this locking, and effectively gives non-const access to the persistent object. The WritablePointer's constructor takes a shared_ptr< const T >. What I want to be able to do is like this (with non-smart pointers): template< typename T > class WritablePointer { public: WritablePointer(const T* const p) : p_(const_cast< T* const >(p)) { p_->lock(); } // ... private: T *p_; }; I have: template< typename T > class WritablePointer { public: typedef typename boost::shared_ptr< T > SmartPointerType; typedef typename boost::shared_ptr< const T > ConstSmartPointerType; WritablePointer(const ConstSmartPointerType& p) : p_(static_cast< const SmartPointerType& >(p)) { p_->lock(); } private: SmartPointerType p_; }; This compiles under gcc 3.2.1 but with a warning: /usr/include/boost/shared_ptr.hpp:153: warning: invalid conversion from `const T* const' to `T*' /usr/include/boost/shared_ptr.hpp: In constructor [I have changed the concrete type from my application to T to simplify]. What I want to do is cast away the const-ness in exactly one place - the WritablePointer ctor. But because I get the warnings it's harder to spot truly illicit conversions. (I copied this technique from an article I read (on Dr. Dobb's or CUJ probably) which used volatile and a mutex to protect shared data between threads, and a smart pointer much like mine to provide write access. uBlas Lapack binds - part 2

I realise that the binding will need quite some work to get right under VC6 (see previous posting). I would welcome suggestions to do the conversion directly (so without all the traits stuff) and not as general. Goal would be to quickly start and then (hopefully) one day be able to migrate to the traits version. Maybe the getrf function in Lapack would be a good starting point? Thanks ... command line parsing

What is the "boost way" of parsing command line arguments? When I searched the archives, some user recommended spirit for this task, but this seems to heavy-weighted for me. I tried tokenizer, but a seperator for the command line is not provided. - you have to remove quotations marks (only escaped_list_separator can do this) - your have to ignore multiple tokens (only char_seperator can do this) If I write this seperator its still wouldn't provide the api I would like to see for a command line parser. I saw in the past there have been an attemp by Bill Kempf to provide a command line parser for boost but it didn't find its way into the library from reasons I don't know. So is there a recommended way to parse options I did overlook? Is a command line parser planned? Thanks for your answers, CL

At the time of access, a (temporary) shared_ptr is created from a weak_ptr, to ensure that the pointee isn't deleted in the midst of using it. Without weak_ptr, the above would be hard(er) to accomplish: * Asking Company to find an Employee each time it is needed may be too inefficient. * Storing shared_ptr<Employee> in the Supervisor class interferes with lifetime management and can cause inconsistent state. * Storing a raw pointer to an Employee is extremely dangerous (known as the dangling Employee problem); there's no way of telling if the pointer is valid. Hello, All! #include <boost/date_time/posix_time/posix_time.hpp> #include <iostream> int main() { using namespace boost::posix_time; using namespace boost::gregorian; date d(1990,1,1); ptime t(d); std::cout << to_simple_string(t); return 0; } I have tested this sample under 4 compilers - vc7, gcc 2.96 asplinux, builder 5.6.4 and kylix3 (compiler borland 5.6). Under Kylix it produce floating point error. I figure out that this happens because t, after this line ptime t(date(1990,1,1)); have {0} (as i see in debuger). Is this library or kylix bug? Macintosh Carbon Thread Error with Boost 1.30.0

Hey guys, I just tried to get the new Boost 1.30.0 release to work on MacOS, using TARGET_CARBON (with threads turned on). I have a problem to report: there's a new "lightweight mutex" being used by the smart pointer library. There does not seem to be a lightweight mutex implementation for the "Carbon MP tasks" thread implementation. So - when I compile my code under Boost 1.30 I end up at: # error Unrecognized threading platform in lightweight_mutex.hpp when it tries to compile any of the smart pointer stuff. Thanks! In a sense, I can sympathize with your co-workers. I spent hours trying to get that predicate right - I kept screwing up the 'inner' bind. This is probably more of a C++ than an boost question but, since it involves shared_ptr, I thought I'd try it here first. I've got a vector of shared_ptrS (e.g., vector<shared_ptr<T> > v;) and I need to find the entry given the 'real' pointer to the underlying T. Looping thru the vector like this: <snippet> for( vector<shared_ptr<T>::iterator itr = v.begin(); itr != v.end(); itr++) { if( itr->get() == real_this){...} } </snippet> works but seems klunky. I should be able to use [find_if( v.begin(), v.end (), ???)] but I can't work out the predicate. Any help or "pointers" ;) will be greatly appreciated. TIA

I tried to send this earlier using the newsgroup, but it seems to have been dropped on the floor. Sorry for the duplicate if it shows up. The latest version of boost has some support for some versions of this compiler. The appropriate jamfile is "sunpro-tools.jam" (Sunpro is an old name for this compiler.) Thus: cd $BOOST_ROOT/libs/thread/build bjam -sTOOLS=sunpro That said, your mileage may vary on this compiler. I have found that it is notoriously buggy, especially wrt templates, and boost code will often cause it heartache in obscure ways. My results have found: * Up-to-date patches for the compiler and the operating system are a must. Find them here: http://access1.sun.com/sundev/index.html * Both versions of this compiler that I have tested have issues with Boost.TypeTraits, generating loads of spurious "Anacronism" warnings wrt the typename keyword being absent or present. Unfortunately, sun has not provided a flag to silence these warnings, and adding typename to the locations it complains about breaks other compilers, notably g++. * Both versions of this compiler will have problems linking some Boost unit tests, due to odd template RTTI issues. Adding -sBUILD="<cxxflags>-instances=static" will sometimes fix this problem. I don't recommend making this flag a default, because of the code bloat that entails. * Sun CC 5.4 ( Workshop/Forte Developer/SunOne Studio 7 ) will successfully build Boost.Threads. * Sun CC 5.3 update 2 ( W/FD/SOS 6u2 ) will only build Boost.Threads in release mode. This compiler generates assertions when attempting to compile the debug libraries. * I have not tested any versions earlier than Workshop 6 update 2. Signals and noncopyable

Hi, Is there a reason why siganls aren't copyable? As far as I can tell signal base derives from noncopyable, but it references its implementation using shared_ptr. So I'm guessing in theory a signal is perfectly copyable. I must admit I came to this conclusion by briefly looking at the code, so I might be completely wrong. I want to store signals into a vector of function<void()>'s, together with bound arguments, to capture events and replay them later. Something similar to (simplified): class recorder { public: // this is the handler for some event // it is connected to another signal void some_event( int i) { events_.push_back( bind( ev, i ) ); } void replay() { vector< function<void()> >::const_iterator itr = events_.begin(); while ( itr != events_.end() ) { (*itr)(); ++itr; } } signal<void(int)> ev; private: vector< function<void()> > events_; }; recorder rec; // connect the recorder to the signals is uses ... // now replay the events rec.ev.connect( some_handler ); rec.replay(); The example above may no be entirely correct since I'm coding this directly without running it through a compiler, but I hope the intent is clear. If I remove the derivation from noncopyable from signal_base, a sigal can be assigned to a function, although I haven't tested it yet to see if it actually works (currently I do not have something I can start testing with). In the ublas forum we're having a discussion on the best way to provide signatures in C for fortran libraries (like BLAS and LAPACK). For linking C with fortran, you sometimes need to add an underscore to the function in C, but on other platforms fortran will store the function-name in capitals. Thus on different platforms, we should preprocess our source to take the platforms' convention into account and we thus would need a macro to convert an identifier automatically to uppercase. Is there anybody did the same thing before? If you finially made it, can you share your experience, makefile with me? condition::wait() - Alertable in Win32

What is the latest thinking on making condition::wait() and condition::timed_wait() "alertable" in the Win32 environment? Please consider this a "me too" request for such a feature! I'm trying to implement a cross-platform (Unix, Windows) implementation of a Proactor pattern that manages asynchronous sockets. It seems that the way to implement this pattern with as much code common to both platforms as possible is to use 1. Overlapped sockets that call back (not post messages) in Windows. 2. Signals in Unix (similar to the Windows call backs but with less- clear semantics in my mind). For this scheme to work, the wait functions need to be alertable in Windows, but the Unix system shouldn't need any changes. >From the research that I have done so far, in my particular case, I would only need wait and timed_wait to be alertable, and it would be appropriate that they were always altertable - I would not need a way to enable or disable this feature.

Building (runtime-link-static) thread lib on vc7

Hi, Some newbie boost thread lib questions: 1) I used to build the 1.29 thread library with the runtime-link-static\threading-multi build configuration. This would yield (in release mode) a 467 KB import library in the destination directory. When I build boost 1.30 (with runtime-link-static\threading-multi), the target directory for the thread library contains: -a boost_thread.dll of 116 KB -boost_thread.lib import libarary of 27KB Programs compile against the import library have a runtime dependency on the boost thread dll (as I would expect from the size of the import .lib) What's the right way to compile a static-link, multi-threaded boost.threads library (using the vc7 toolset) in 1.30? 2) What happended to the threadmon.dll? Is it gone in 1.30? Thanks for any pointers..

specializing new lexical_cast

I'm going to embark on it, but I thought I'd ask in parallel. One of the things about Terje's proposed lexical_cast was a lot of documentation of how to specialize it. That doesn't seem to be addressed in 1.30.0's version. I see in the documentation "Where non-stream-based conversions are required, lexical_cast is the wrong tool for the job and is not special-cased for such scenarios." I understand this sentiment, and I tried to search for discussions of this on the mailing list, but I did not conquer ASPN's search tool. The reason I'm asking is that we did some profiling and strtod kicked lexical_cast's butt for string -> double. I currently use lexical_cast in some template'd xml code, so I could overload my function, but I'd have to do it in about 5 spots due to an evolving interface. I'd like to just do it once for lexical_cast. I suppose I could use Terje's implementation, but I've stuck with boost canon for a long time now intentionally. Tuple compatibility with VS.Net

I downloaded boost 1.30.0 but am having trouble with the Tuple library with Visial Studio.Net. The following code produces the errors: #include <boost/tuple/tuple.hpp> boost::tuple<int, int> f() { return boost::tuple<int, int>(1, 1); } c:\cpp\boost_1_30_0 \boost\tuple\detail\tuple_basic_no_partial_spec.hpp(411) : error C2039: 'map_tuple_to_cons' : is not a member of 'boost::detail' This code is: class tuple : public detail::map_tuple_to_cons<T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, T10>::cons1 This appears to be a compiler bug. The code at this line is in the boost::tuples namespace but the compiler seems to be ignoring boost::tuples::detail. I replaced detail with tuples::detail in many places in this code. Next error: c:\cpp\boost_1_30_0 \boost\tuple\detail\tuple_basic_no_partial_spec.hpp(456) : error C2629: unexpected 'boost::tuple<T1,T2,T3,T4,T5,T6,T7,T8,T9,T10> (' This code is: template<typename Head, typename Tail> explicit tuple(const cons<Head, Tail>& other) : cons1(other.head, other.tail) { } Visual C++ doesn't seem to understand template constructors. I replaced the template constructor with a copy constructor. VC++ failed to create the default copy constructor :( c:\cpp\boost_1_30_0 \boost\tuple\detail\tuple_basic_no_partial_spec.hpp(470) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ',' before '<' The code is: template<typename Head, typename Tail> self_type& operator=(const cons<Head, Tail>& other) Lookup failed on cons. Your error message indicates that exceptions are disabled. Try not disabling them. I think some versions of GCC might disable exceptions by default based on the language its compiling for -- e.g., if it's invoked as 'gcc' or the filename extension designates a C file. I didn't see this behaviour under Cygwin, though. I can get it to compile under Cygwin just by adding the Boost include with -I and defining __linux__ with -D. Extending max. arity of tuples

I ran against the arity limitation of 10 and to resolve it, modified tuple_basic.hpp to use the preprocessor package for all variable length argument lists (with macro BOOST_TUPLE_MAX_ARITY serving as a single parameter configurable from config/user.hpp). It honestly sounds to me like Edward wants a tutorial -- something that the PP library does not currently have. I have used the PP lib numerous times for many different types of problems, and have always come away with a good feeling towards the docs. They are easy to navigate and are structured in such a way that you can find what you are looking for quickly. However, I also understand Edward's point about a tutorial. If I had not come to the PP lib with a particular problem, but instead just wanted to get a "warm, fuzzy" feeling about it, then it would be natural to want a tutorial to walk me through each macro giving an actual program and describing why each macro used in the program was chosen as well as what it expands to. I realize that this would be a huge undertaking, but perhaps there are people out there like myself, who have used and enjoy the PP lib that would help you in this endeavor if you choose to undertake it. I definately think it would be worthwhile to have a tutorial to help the unitiated get their feet wet. Basically, give them a problem to solve, show them how to solve it, then describe in detail how the solution was derived. boost::lexical_cast extension for boost::any ...

I have a need to cast a boost::any with an arbitrary contained type to another type, using a boost::lexical_cast for example. Consider the following: #include <boost/any.hpp> class obj { public: int val0; double val1; void setval(int i, boost:any const & val) { switch (i) { case 0: val0 = boost::any_cast<int>(val); break; case 1: val1 = boost::any_cast<double>(val); break; } } }; int main(int, char*[]) { obj o; o.setval(0, 1); o.setval(1, 2); return 0; } As expected, this throws a boost::bad_any_cast() at runtime. I'd like to write code similar to (from obj::setval above): case 0: val0 = boost::lexical_cast<int>(val); break; case 1: val1 = boost::lexical_cast<double>(val); break; Unfortunately boost::lexical_cast doesn't handle a parameter of type boost::any, since there isn't an overload of 'std::ostream operator <<()' for type boost::any. Can anyone suggest a simple way around this? My own musings on the subject have lead me to thinking that there needs to be a simple way to extract the contained value, or write it to a stream, without knowing its type. The simplest method I can see would be to add a function to boost::any::placeholder which either returns a string representation of the held value or writes the held value to a std::basic_ostream. This should allow a simple boost::lexical_cast conversion for boost::any to any arbitrary type. Comments? Have I missed anything major? Oh, and yes, I know that this goes beyond the intent of boost::any. tokenizer and command line

Under Windows and boost 1.30, I would like to split the command line string. I want to have the arguments in a vector compared to the command line argv vector. The first approach was with char_separator, but than arguments in quotes don't lose the quotes automatically. The next try was with escaped_list_separator and seperator SPACE, here the arguments loose the quotes, but mulitple seperators leeds to multiple arguments with can be configurated with char_separator, but not with escaped_list_separator. Shouldn't escaped_list_separator get also an empty_token_policy or is there another possiblity to get around this problems? Thanks in advance, CL

building boost with vc7

Hello, I've just downloaded boost_1_30_0 and it turns out that there are two ways to build regex lib: bjam nmake /f vc7.mak However, they produce different libraries, and regex headers explicitly include ones generated by the makefile. e.g: boost_regex_vc7_mdi.lib boost_regex_vc7_mdid.lib ..... So, here are a few questions: -- why do above commands generate different libs? -- the nmake generates a full set of libs, but bjam does not, why? -- no other libs do have makefiles, why? Problems building on Mac-OSX

I'm trying to build boost 1.30 on Mac OS-X 1.2.4. I'm using the compiler that came with the system, GCC-3.1. When I do "bjam -sTOOLS=darwin", I get a variety of errors and warnings. I get the warning "enumeration value `type_pf' not handled in switch", in several places in libs/regex/src/cregex.cpp. In all cases, the offending lines are protected by ifdefs: #ifndef BOOST_REGEX_NO_FILEITER case re_detail::RegExData::type_pf: return pdata->fm[i].matched; #endif It would appear that BOOST_REGEX_NO_FILEITER should be defined in the darwin environment, but isn't. This is the first time I've just Jam, so I'm at a loss to figure out why it's not set right, or how to fix it. More importantly, I get 6 failures. Bandwidth Optimization using RCM (reverse Cuthill-Mckee)

Hi I am a very fresh user of Boost library. While I was searching the internet for a bandwidth optimization algorithm, I found Boost Graph Library. The library supports an RCM algorithm (cuthill_mckee_ordering) and I have checked the example given at this address: http://www.boost.org/libs/graph/example/cuthill_mckee_ordering.cpp It seems like the used vertex numbers given in this example is sequential and starts form 0: vertex list: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,8, 9 and a edge list is constructed from these vertex numbers. Do I have to define such a sequential order and always start from 0? What if I define vertex numbers such as : 1, 6, 9, 10, 11, 13, 21, 25, 26, 30, and define a valid edge like: ( 1,10), (1,13), (6,21), (6,30), (6,11), (6,9), (10,13), (10,26), (10,9), (13,21), (21,25), (9,11), (13,35) The above vertex list is a relabed list of the one given in the example code and I defined the same edge (connectivity) list. In fact, I tried it but the returned ordered list is not valid. Unless I use the vertex numbers starting from 0 and goes up to 9 like given on the example, the returned ordered is wrong. containers of boost::function objects

I am trying to create a simple mechanism to register multiple callbacks with my class. My first simple-minded approach is to use std::list< boost::function2< [my params]> > Unfortunately, I cannot search this list to unregister callbacks, as any attempt to dereference a list::iterator tries to call the function, rather than return the function object. After spotting this problem in the standard algorithms I have been trying to hack around myself, explicitly calling operator* and even operator-> with no joy. Am I missing some easy way to get the function object out of the iterator as a value? And is this a bug in my compiler (BCB6) or a general issue for containers of function objects? -- AlisdairM

Compiling with Forte 7 generates Assertion errors - help?

Hello, I am trying to build Boost with the Forte compiler and am getting many Assertion errors. I tried the same things Robert Reece tried (see Subject: type_traits/is_convertible crashes Forte 6.2u2 and Forte 7.0) and get the same results he described. I am using Forte 7, Solaris 8, and the latest version of Boost (1.30). My main.cpp file looks like: #include "boost/type_traits/detail/size_t_trait_def.hpp" // Try using the BOOST_TT_AUX_SIZE_T_TRAIT_DEF1 macro. namespace boost { BOOST_TT_AUX_SIZE_T_TRAIT_DEF1(alignment_of,T,::boost::detail::alignment_of_impl<T>::value) } // namespace boost int main( void ) { return 0; } and I compile with: CC -I$BOOST_DIR main.cpp The compiler prints an error: >> Assertion: (../lnk/init.cc, line 991) while processing main.cpp at line 3.
