I have trouble compiling code that makes use of the boost::format library. In particular I get compile errors from basic_format::operator= method (line 90 format_implementation.hpp). Hi, I am writing an MFC program in MSVC7 that must pass a path from one dialog box to another upon pressing a button. I attempt to pass the path to the next dialog by using a directory iterator: fs::directory_iterator startIt(scanPath); (***) where scanPath is an object of type path. Using MPL to write is_derived_from_std_basic_ostream

I'm trying to ascertain whether a given class is, or is derived from, std::basic_ostream, but I've ground to a halt. The attached code successfully reports those classes that do derive from std::basic_ostream but fails to compile when I test std::string, bool, char etc. I can see what is going wrong, but have run out of ideas about how to fix it. I'm also painfully aware that my attempts are just plain ugly. Can someone show me the way forward? Regards, Angus

Hello everyone, I have a question concerning signals. I wanted to force one of the callbacks to be called last. Obviously this needs to be done in an agnostic way since the calling function will probably not know how many other callbacks are connected and so on. I've built and installed boost on a WinXp system with VS.Net 2003. I'm trying to use it in a static CRT project. newbie: bjam with mwcw, #include "user" and <system> paths

Hi, I am a newbie and have a few questions. 1. Re: bjam suspicious output with Metrowerks CodeWarrior 9.2 My command line tools times goes back to mpw on the Mac pre 1990... The boost documentation looks very good but it still assumes a knowledge of command line tools. I have managed to build 2 Win targets: One that I hope I will be able to drop into a large ms vc7.2 solution and an other for a mw cw 9.2 workspace. (I sure wish boost deployed ready made .vcproj and .mcp files...) I have … [View More]extracted the boost source to: C:\boost_1_31_0 I have also downloaded bjam.exe (3.1.10-1-ntc86) and copied it to the boost_1_31_0 root. So, I launched a cmd window: cd C:\boost_1_31_0 bjam "-sVC71_ROOT=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Vc7" install. This generates: C:\Boost\ - include\ - lib\ include\ is basically a copy of the source without a few make specific files but with all the platform specific source intact. I assume this is a "basic installation" for use with ms vc7. I have managed to use it making a few tests with boost::shared_ptr. So far so good. I proceeded to make the mwcw target after renaming C:\Boost\ to C:Boost_vc7\. bjam "-sCWPRO8_ROOT=C:\Program Files\Metrowerks\CodeWarrior" install This process is much much faster and the new files I get in C:\Boost\include and C:Boost\lib are exactly the same as those generated a while ago by the vc7 compiler (the libs have exactly the same timestamp). In fact it doesn't look as if anything is ever compiled. This is making me suspicious. However I have managed to make a similar test with boost::shared_ptr. Off course, none of the generated libraries are involved so I am probably just kidding myself. 2. The boost source is mixing "user" and <system> paths. For instance in boost\any.hpp: #include "boost/config.hpp" #include <boost/throw_exception.hpp> Is this intentional? If so, why? It is forcing me to add the boost root to both the UserPaths and System Paths settings. This is very unfortunate. I can"clean this up" but that's going to cause work when upgrading. 3. Does anyone here have experience adding boost to a large vc7.1 solution in such a way as to cause zero noise. In other words, next time your collegues synchronize, everything should be automagic - no need to have any one change local settings or read long and boring installation e-mails which is bound to fail anyway. Mirroring the boost hiearchy in a CodeWarrior project is child's play. In msvc it's more like a nightmare because one has to create the sub directories manually, one at a time :-). I can deal with the #include paths issues by adding ".." to projects Additional Include Directories". Msvc does not seem to care whether it's a "user" or <system> path. I've been experimenting with subgraphs. At present, they look quite useful in what I'm trying to do, but I've questions. If I add custom vertex and edge properties to my base graph, can I access these through a subgraph, using local vertex/edge descriptors? If not, is there a way of obtaining the mapping between global and local vertex/edge descriptors?

hi, I'm new to boost, stlport and programming on linux in general, so I apologise now for any obvious beginner errors! I have written a custom iterator based on boost::iterator_facade, and I'm trying to use this with the std::partial_sort_copy algorithm. However, when compiling with g++ I get an error message saying that there is no matching function for a call to counting_iterator(Vertex<3>&). The aim of boost::filesystem should be to support the following coding idiom: * The programmer should take care to only handle two types of paths in his application: 1) Complete paths 2) Relative paths * The programmer will have to specifically tell the libary when a constructed path is 'native' and when not. A native path is accepted according to native rules and never gives any problem (exceptions) further on. A non-native path is checked … [View More]according to the existing rules, which basically means that the programmer can set a default check routine that will in effect determine how portable the application will be. I propose two design changes: 1) 'native' is now not only a representation, but an *internal state* of fs::path. (this has no effect on the representation as returned by fs::path::string()). 2) All 'complete' paths are automatically marked as 'native'. Examples, the following code is legal: fs::path p1("C:\foo\a.exe", native); // Fails on linux, success on windows. fs::path p2("/usr/src/a.out, native); // Fails on windows, success on linux. std::cout << p1.native_file_string(); // ok, p1 is native. fs::path p3("foo/bar"); // Relative path, always succeeds. std::cout << p.string(); // ok std::cout << p.native_directory_string(); // Useless, but ok. fs::path p4(complete(p3)); // p4 is now "native", because now it is complete. std::cout << p4.native_directory_string(); // ok And the following will throw: std::cout << p4.string() // Not allowed because p4 is native (complete). Hello, I've just tried to compile a small piece of code using mpl::switch_ starting from an example Aleksey Gurtovoy sent to this list a while ago. I slightly modified the code to use the boost::is_same<T,U> template but I can't make it compile. Hi, I have done some additional testing on th eproblem that I reported yesterday, and I have found that the problem I was having with static linking under gcc 2.95.3 also occurs on gcc 3.2.2. I get basically the same error message (see below). I guess that the reason I get the message for the static linking but not for the dynamic linking might be that the undefined references in a shared library are ok as long as those functions are not called. VC 6 has an option for Run-Time Type Information (RTTI) that is normally off. I was able to compile and execute a sample program that had a problem. I noticed that Boost uses RTTI (such as the dynamic_cast operator), so I checked to see if the option was on; it was not. I turned the option on and the program worked. problem with static linking on linux gcc 2.95.3

Hi, I am wondering if any of you boost gurus can help with this problem. I have compiled and installed boost using gcc 2.95.3 on a linux redhat 7 machine. The install actually fails on some targets. You don't say *exactly* what the regex is that's causing the problem - it makes a difference - problems like this are usually caused by an expression that behaves badly with specific input (because regexes are NP-Hard to match in the general case). Boost.Regex will throw an exception rather than go on thrashing forever trying to find a match, but to determine whether this is the case here, you need to trap the exception at the point it's being thrown, and see if the regex lib is indeed the culprit, if it is, then refactoring the expression that you're using so that it's less ambiguous is usually the answer. I use Spirit's File Iterator as the input iterator for the search algorithm. After some seven thousands hits the match algo throughs the memory exhausted exception. So I cought the exception and moved the iterator by one, printed the location it points to in my searched file to view the problematic section for the regex find algorithm. compiling boost using Intel C++ 8.0 under Windows

I am havng problems building boost using the intel C++ 8.0 compiler. It looks as if bjam can't fine the icl.exe compiler executable itself. This file is installed under this directory C:\Program Files\Intel\CPP\Compiler80\Ia32\Bin Any ideas what I do wrong? I try this: run the iclvars.bat batch file. Random Library

Hi, I have a question about the random library. I'm using vc7.1 and I'm getting a warning when I include the random library. The warning I get when I, #include <boost\random.hpp> is: d:\includes\boost_1_31_0\boost\random\linear_congruential.hpp(233) : warning C4244: 'return' : conversion from 'boost::uint64_t' to 'boost::int32_t', possible loss of data When I look at the file, rand48::operator() returns an int32_t, but lcf is defined with uint64_t. Hello, I want to report a problem with Regex library. When extensive usage of regex_match and regex_search functions is done numerous times, then after several thousands iterations Regex library starts throwing "Regular expression too big" exception on the same regular expressions it worked perfectly with at several thousands previous iterations. Feature for using C++ as script language

Hi, After I discovered Boost, which has regex and filesystem libraries, I decided to use C++ for tasks that I usually do with Ruby (a Perl-like language), because I know C++ a lot better than other languages. However, there's a feature of those languages I miss: the ability to call external programs and get the output as a string. Does any of Boost libraries (or other free libraries you know) have this capability? Thanks, Maurício

Hi, This is a followup to my previous message. I must be doing something wrong, but I am unable to compile boost under gcc 3.2.2 on a Red Hat Linux machine (RH9 linux 2.4.24). I agree with the "nuclear engineer" that the "Getting Started" instructions are a little confusing, but I think it is at least as good as (for example) the instructions for MySQL.
