hi, would it be possible to add a set of overloads to lexical_cast to allow for more efficient conversions when the code to do so is readily available (and especially when it is part of the standard library)? below is part of my own rather simplistic implementation of this idea which has been tested on VC7.1 and seems to work fine. other overloads for floats using atof etc. proceed in a similar manner to that for ints. template<class T, class U> T to(U const& u) { return to(u, Type2Type<T>()); } template<class T, class U> T to(U const& u, Type2Type<T> const&) { return lexical_cast<T>(u); } int to(std::string const& arg, Type2Type<int> const&) { return atoi(arg.c_str()); } ian whittley

boost thread tutorial?

Howdy, I'm planning to use Boost.Thread in my program to utilize concurrency. I already had a closer look at the documentation and I noticed that it's lacking most parts for which I would consult a documentation in the first place: 1. API reference 2. A user guide showing how to use Boost.Thread in practical examples The only code examples I spotted were pseudo-code which were pretty meaningless to me. For example: void foo() { create_thread(&bar); } What is create_thread? Which arguments does it take? What is bar? I know I can't demand anything from the author since it's free software, but... this is simply not very helpful. So, does anyone know a good source with examples and maybe even an API reference of Boost.Thread? Thanks in advance. -- Matthias Kaeppler

tokenizer question

Hi, I'm using the tokenizer class to allow users of my program to concatenate fields of data into a resultant string, where each field can be a quoted string literal, or some pre-defined entity that gets substituted by the program at some point later. The + symbol is treated like a concatenation operator. For example, a user might enter a string like this (including the quotes): "hello," + " world" In this case, my program would concatenate the two string literals ("hello," and " world") together so that the result is "hello, world" (note that these quotes are not actually part of the result string). My basic tokenizer usage is below: // FieldSpec is the incoming string as entered by the // user, including quotes to denote string literals std::string str = FieldSpec.c_str(); typedef boost::tokenizer<boost::char_separator<char> > tokenizer; boost::char_separator<char> fieldSeparator("+", "", boost::keep_empty_tokens); tokenizer fieldTokens(str, fieldSeparator); for ( tokenizer::iterator tok_iter = fieldTokens.begin(); tok_iter != fieldTokens.end(); ++tok_iter ) { // do something with the token // (could be a string literal or a pre-defined entity) } The problem I have is that the user might wish to include plus signs in his string lterals, as in this example: "1" + " + " + "2 = 3" Here, the user has entered a " + " which should indicate a literal plus sign as opposed to a concatenation operator. The obvious desired result would be: "1 + 2 = 3" (minus the quotes) My current usage of tokenizer does not handle this at all, as it has no regard for _where_ the '+' symbols are located in the user's string; that is, it doesn't care if they are within quotes or not. I would like my tokenizer usage to be smart enough to know the difference between _real_ token separators and those that might exist as string literals within quotes. Can I use the tokenizer class to do this, or do I need to use some other method to tokenize my strings? I see something about the concept of a TokenizerFunction in the documentation, but I don't really have any idea how to implement one, or if it would even be helpful in this situation. I'm rather new to the boost libraries and template usage in general, so all help and suggestions are welcome. Thanks, - Dennis

I had to modify some source to avoid compile errors, which has me worried given my lack of expertise. In log.hpp, I had to change (sorry, I can't paste in code or compiler output, this is typed in) template<bool is_compile_time, bool is_enabled> struct logger_keeper_is_enabled... to template<bool is_compile_time, bool is_enabledInput> struct logger_keeper_is_enabled... to avoid shadowing is_enabled in ts_posix.hpp, I had to change the mutex ctr from mutex() : m_mutex(0) {... to mutex() {... This seems OK because m_mutex is initialized in the ctr body. After making those changes, I tried the example in the basic_usage.html. It hangs on the first call to BOOST_DEFINE_LOG. I traced it with gdb to find_log_by_name() at log_manager.cpp:294. From there, it goes to the logger_info ctr. It hangs in lwm_pthreads.hpp:72 in the scoped_lock ctr, apparently trying to get a lock. Of course my mods to the source and general lack of insight have me worried. I expect difficulties as an "early adopter" but any help would be greatly appreciated. I installed Boost 1.32 in Windows with Visual Studio .NET 2003. I tested serialization provided in "vc7ide" project, it runs successfully. Of course, all test projects are "Console", no MFC library involved. Then I used the same library in MFC project, the execution failed in function: BOOST_SERIALIZATION_NVP(s) >From MSDN, it was said that Boost is supported in Visual Studio .NET 2003. I labored a week to upgrade our MFC project to Visual Studio .NET 2003 and it still has problem. Any idea? Thanks in advance. Yan

I needed something to convert the difference between two xtime values to microseconds, so I looked at the to_microduration function in time_conv.inl and I guess that there is a bug there. The if should be: if (boost::xtime_cmp(xt, cur) <= 0) microseconds = 0; else ... In facts, the intent of the if condition seems to be avoiding negative return values, as for the to_duration function. I've been unable to build the boostbook documentation from the cvs sources for some time now. It used to work, but lately I get the errors below. The 'using docbook' paths in ~/user-config.jam are are correct, and were added using 'tools/boostbook/setup_boostbook.sh'. I tried 'rm ../bin.v2/doc/gcc-3.2/debug/catalog.xml' but it didn't help. All, I have a question which is not related directly to boost. I am writing a multithreaded application and would like to make use of a multiprocessor machine in order to speed up our Monte Carlo simulation engine. We make use of the random number package (random number distributions). My question is: making the random number generator a global variable (object) it is possible to use it in several threads at the same time -> does it mean that the random sequences will be repeated and the entire simulation will be simply a repetition of n non-random sequences? This can be avoided when a lock is acquired on the random number generator and at a given time just one thread can access the rng and the advantage of the multiprocessor machine is lost. Can you advise? Boost.Tribool: GCC4 and anonymous enums

simple_ls compile error

Just tried to install boost on my laptop and I can't seem to get it to work. (slack 10.1) installed it with bjam "-sTOOLS=gcc" install and it seems to have added itself in /usr/local/include and so on. but when I try to build simple_ls.cpp I only get: todelod@todelod2:~/hemma/my_little_project$ gcc simple_ls.cpp -lboost_filesystem /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-slackware-linux/3.3.4/../../../../i486-slackware-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lboost_filesystem collect2: ld returned 1 exit status what am I doing wrong?? numeric/conversion library question

Following small program does not give the expected result. It prints some big negative value if compiled with my gcc 3.4.3 on linux or intel-linux 8.1. However commenting out either (one suffices) of the commented out lines makes it work correctly. Hi, I have a few questions about Boost.ProgramOptions pertaining to parsing an argv that is of wchar_t data type. The first thing that isn't clear from the examples is whether it's possible at all. The second thing that isn't clear is how to do it and store string values in std::wstring variables. Thanks Robert. This partially worked... Your comment about putting the BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT macro into the header keyed me into something. I am using the BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT(derived) macro, but I've been placing them into the source (cpp) file instead of the header (h) file. With my system, when I put BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT(derived) into the header file, I get a multiply-defined error at link time (the offending code is boost::archive::detail::guid_initializer<class,...> since the header is included multiple times when I use the class. As a test, I setup a sandbox with a stripped down system and was able to get it to work when I put the BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT in the header, but not when it is in the cpp file. Q: Why does the location of the BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT matter? Is it doing order-depended initialization upon bringing up the system? Q: How do I avoid the mutiple defined error in the linker? Boost version: 1.32.0 I am trying to use the serialization class to serialize data pointed to by the virtual base class. Note that the code works great if I don't use virtual inheritance off of the base class. Any real examples of how to use this method would be appreciated. So, does anyone know why the pointer to the base doesn't work when using virtual inheritance? It works find when I remove the virtual from the inheritance. Unfortunately, with the software architecture that I have, there are several cases when the virtual inheritance off of interfaces is required. Any help with the matter is greatly appreciated. -Eric

boost::thread() calls destructor!!

Hello, I tried to modify the sample code from Bill Kempf for boost.thread, listing 4 that I got at the following link http://www.cuj.com/documents/s=8470/cuj0205kempf/list4.htm to embed the write function in a writeClass function-object. That is a test because in a program I need to pass a function object to one thread, and not a global function. That's weird to me, but it's annoying because in my other program, the dtor destroys some member data, and the program crashes because of it. date serialization fails with non-standard locales

I'm not sure if this is a bug or if I'm misusing the library. It seems that serializing boost::posix_time_ptime fails when using non-standard locale (Windows Xp OS - vc 7.1 compiler - boost updated from CVS few days ago). As an example, try adding std::locale::global( std::locale( "en" ) ); as the first line of the testtime_serialize.cpp; this causes the test to fail when doing ia >> pt2; I tried to understand what was happening, and it seems to me that the problem is in keeping into account locale when serializing, while ignoring it while unserializing. In greg_serialize.hpp to_iso_string(d) may generate something like "2,0050527"; the method from_undelimited_string(ds) used to load the serialized date, expects a 4,2,2 format. Paolo

I copied the boost installation zip file for windows the boost_1_32 zip file to c:\temp. The zip file was then expanded to c:\temp\boost_1_32_0. If one follows the instructions for building bjam from c:\temp\boost_1_32\tools\build\jam_src\ a bjam.exe gets created in c:\temp\boost_1_32_0\tools\build\jam_src\ bin.ntx86. I dont have any boost set up in the environment path. I have copied the bjam.exe to c:\windows\system32. I then type the boost install command below as per boost building instructions for visual c++ 7 as per below. C:\temp\boost_1_32_0>bjam "-sTOOLS=vc-7_1" install Regards Theo

I am trying to build and install boost libary on a laptop with OS Windows XP and Visual Studio.net and I am not sure its working as I am getting the following messages. I am trying to use regex to parse NMEA messages. I am new to regex and regular expressions in general, and am having problems getting regex_match to do what I want. The code below demonstrates the problem. CVS directories in tarballs

Hi Folks, Why are the CVS directories are excluded from the tarball? I think it would be useful to distribute them with anonymous cvs access settings because - someone might want to get the boost library but particularly interested in the latest additions of one specific library, - one could see what is new in a particular directory/file with a "cvs diff", - and it encourages bug-fixing. Just can't get started with boost testing framework

Hi guys, I'm new to using Boost, and I'm hitting my head against what I'm pretty sure is a linking / inclusion problem. I'm trying to use the library to test code I'm writing, but I don't want to have to install the libraries onto the machine I'm compiling on (I just want a way I can have them in my code directory and include them from there). transmute_iterator

I'm looking for a transforming iterator. I've looked at the boost transform_iterator but it doesn't quite do what I want. Well, in fact it does a little too much, it passes the dereferenced base iterator to the transform function - I would like it to pass the base iterator itself. The reason being is that the transform function is to return an object containing that base iterator (the object acts much along the lines of a boost graph edge/vertex descriptor). At the moment I've cut and pasted transform_iterator.hpp, renamed it transmute_iterator.hpp and edited it to remove one char (the dereferencing *) just so as I can try things out. Oh, I am slow! I was going to ask if such an iterator could be added to boost lib but have just realised that it is trivial for a transmute_iterator to model a transform_iterator. Hmm, so my question now is - is there some reason why the base iterator is dereferenced before being passed to the function? Wouldn't it be better to let the function decide that? thanks, Louis. static assertion in date_serialization_demo

Hi, I've tried to build this simple code using vc 7.1 using namespace boost::gregorian; date d(2004, Apr, 5); std::ofstream ofs("date_demo.txt"); boost::archive::text_oarchive oa(ofs); oa << d; but it fails due to a static assertion. The code is taken from the very first lines of boost_serialization_demo.cpp. It seems to compile with boost 1.32, but seems to fail with current boost. Since this demo is not be included in the jamfile (or I was not able to find it), I built it is using visual studio IDE. The compiler command-line options were: /Od /D "WIN32" /D "_DEBUG" /D "_CONSOLE" /D "_MBCS" /Gm /EHsc /RTC1 /MLd /Fo"Debug/" /Fd"Debug/vc70.pdb" /W3 /nologo /c /Wp64 /ZI /TP I also tried to turn on/off the RTTI, but the result did not change. The error I get is d:\PROJECTS\boost\boost\archive\detail\oserializer.hpp(557) : error C2027: use of undefined type 'boost::STATIC_ASSERTION_FAILURE<x>' Am I missing something? Thanks, Paolo

shared pointer and WinCE

Hello I'm having a problem when using shared pointers in Embedded Visual C++ .Net STLPort. When trying to compile I always get the error 'bad_alloc' : is not a member of 'stlp_std' in the file boost/detail/shared_count.hpp Do you know of any solution or what I can do to fix it? The macro BOOST_NO_EXCEPTIONS is defined. Is it a problem in STLPort or Boost? If I remove the namespace identifier then I get an "undeclarer identifier" error. If anyone has a working example of using STLPort and Boost shared pointers with Embedded Visual C++ 4 please post it. Thank You.

It is almost exactly the same as intrusive_ptr, including the addRef. Here's why I need the addRef: I'm using a library (DLL) that only exposes abstract classes (in the h file). To get a 'real' object/implementation, I call a function to create an object: CreateFoo(fooparams,..); Internally, this creates a Foo_Implementation, but it is returned to me as a Foo *. Part of Foo's interface is reference counting, via foo->AddRef() and foo->RemoveRef(). So when I'm done with Foo, I call RemoveRef. Note, however, that the Foo * returned from CreateFoo is already addRef'd and ready to go. So I don't need to call AddRef. I could (and did for a while) manage my Foo*'s manually, but after a number of leaks, I gave up and wrote a smart ptr (AutoRefCountPtr) that would RemoveRef automatically when I was done with the pointer. So there's your example. I few other notes: 1. maybe CreateFoo() should have returned a AutoRefCountPtr for me, instead of a 'naked' Foo *. But this is a bit hard, because CreateFoo is inside the DLL, and doesn't really want to pass back any 'real' objects (beside abstract interfaces) because the DLL and the EXE may be built differently, not at the exact same version, etc. 2. maybe the whole system suffered from a fundamental design flaw, and is a bad example. That could be, but nonetheless, it was an essential library, and I didn't really have the option to NOT use it or rewrite it, so an intrusive_ptr like thing was 'real world' helpful, even if only to assist in living with a design flaw. (Not that I think there was a design flaw, but even if there was...) 3. Note that, like intrusive_ptr, my ptr made the initial 'addRef' optional. It needed to be false when you created the object, but if Foo * was passed in as a function argument, that function might wrap it in an intrusive_ptr that DID need to do the initial addref. 4. I called my flag 'addRef'. Is that exactly the same as intrusive_ptr? Note that this still doesn't mean it is a good name - I was the *implementor* and it made sense to me, and was very descriptive for the *implementation*. But maybe it wouldn't make sense for the client/user (which was also me, in my case :-). I suspect boost's 'addRef' was also named from an implementation rather than usage point of view. But I'm still not sure what a better name would be. Maybe "already_pre_addRefd_thanks' or something like that? I do sometimes agree with names that are NOT exactly obvious as long as they are interesting enough that the user is likely to dig a little deeper to find the meaning. But my co-workers often disagree... p.s. I originally made my flag a template parameter, partially because I like this syntax so much: if (AutoRefCountPtr<Foo, false> foo = CreateFoo(blah)) { } instead of if (AutoRefCountPtr foo(CreateFoo(blah), false)) { } which doesn't always compile, because it confuses the compiler, or if (AutoRefCountPtr foo = AutoRefCountPtr(CreateFoo(blah), false)) { } which just isn't as clear as the first way. The problem with making the flag a template param is that AutoRefCountPtr<Foo, false> is not the same type as AutoRefCountPtr<Foo, true> so assignment, etc is a bit tricky. ~intrusive_ptr bug?

As observed in another thread, the intrusive_ptr destructor in boost 1.32 does not honor its own status as defined in the constructor with respect to the addRef boolean. This snippet shows the problem: X * x = new X ; { intrusive_ptr<X> p(x, false) ; } // Here, x has been destroyed! Is this a bug, or some requirement (that I couldn't find) that if you ever pass "false" to the constructor, then that intrusive_ptr is assumed to never go out of scope? The fix would be simple: ... bool strong ; intrusive_ptr(T * p, bool add_ref = true): p_(p), strong(add_ref) { if(p_ != 0 && add_ref) intrusive_ptr_add_ref(p_); } ... ~intrusive_ptr() { if(p_ != 0 && strong) intrusive_ptr_release(p_); } though it is less clear whether it would break some assumption I'm not privy to. Also, the above "fix" would increase the stack storage from the typical 4 bytes to probably 8 (due to alignment) just to store an additional bit. Obviously, a less portable implementation could get away with storing the bool as the low order bit of p_, masking it off when required ... Should I go ahead an implement this fix with the knowledge that a future revision of boost will include it, or is there any other consideration that render this fix unlikely to make it into an official release ? I'm having trouble with debug builds of the boost serialization (1.32) library. The release configuration works fine, but debug build crashes with access violation on binary_iarchive instantiation. call stack is attached. [BGL] combining kdtree-style operations

I am looking at a complex project I am about to implement with BGL. Among regular graph operations, we need each vertex/edge to be located in Cartesian space (a Coordinate property will do) and for any point P in this Cartesian space (which may coincide with a vertex or edge) determine the set of geographically close vertices/edges (within the sphere of radius r, centred at P). Thus, the result set is essentially completely independent of the graph's structure, only dependent on the Coordinate property of the graph elements. The classic algorithm for this type of problem is the KD-Tree, a structure optimised for spatial lookups in K-dimensional space. It uses the same technique as a binary search, but at each level, the next dimension is compared... until K, at which point the iteration starts again from 0. Bentley, J. Since it stores edges and vertices in the same data structure, it does not really make for a good base container for the BGL. It would be possible to use separate trees for edges and vertices, but another problem makes that really difficult: changes to the Cartesian coordinates basically require the object to be removed and reinserted into the tree, and erasure does not work reliably currently (I have not found a viable update strategy). Now I am faced with the task of combining that with the BGL. Thus, I am weighing options: - does anyone work with KD Trees and the BGL who'd be willing to share experiences with me? In particular, I wonder whether it is possible * to use the same data structures for both, such that I do not have to store multiple pointers for my objects, one in the graph and one in the KD tree? * to implement KD trees with BGL? - would this library be a candidate for Boost and/or the BGL? I realise that it's way too STL-centric right now (I somehow got a kick out of using the same variable naming scheme as the SGI STL implementation, which was made by people with obvious psychiatric needs (</humour>). Basically, between its current version and a final version ("1.0"), the following needs to be done: * clean up the source code to make it less cryptic (1 day) * figure out how to implement erase-and-optimise efficiently (1 week) * figure out a way to make the coordinates mutable so that the tree can accomodate moving objects (although it's probably not the best container for e.g. particle systems). * push decisions down into policies (it already uses comparator and allocator policies). So this email does two things: If you are familiar with KD trees and the BGL, please give me some insight into your approach. If you are interested in the KD tree implementation and think that it would be a good candidate for boost, consider helping out to attack the TODO list, and if only with conceptual discussion. Confusion with demo.cpp from Serialization doc

When I seemingly successfully compile: http://boost.org/libs/serialization/example/demo.cpp a sample of several aspects of the Boost Serialization library, I get something close to what I expect, but it is missing the names of the drivers in the restored schedule (output below). In debugging the code it seems the file_version argument to the serialize call is always 0, despite the macro BOOST_CLASS_VERSION to set it to 2 being evaluated at compile time. [BGL] complexity of random_vertex/random_edge

http://www.boost.org/libs/graph/doc/random.html claims that random_vertex and random_edge both have a runtime complexity linear in the number of vertices and edges, respectively. This seems weird. Given a random access iterator and the number of elements, retrieving a random member should be doable in constant time. Is the complexity guarantee here based on the worst case of the lists only being directionally accessible? If yes, does using container class implementing the RandomAccessIterator concept automatically select constant-time versions of these random retrievers? boost.graph determining if one graph is a subgraph of another

Hello: If I have two graphs, G = ( E, V) G' = ( E', V' ) what would be the most efficient way, using BGL, to determine whether G' is a subgraph of G?. I'm not interested in 'isomorphic' subgraphs. Of course, if G' is a subset of G, then E' is a subset of E and V' is a subset of V. I guess I could iterate over all the edge and vertex descriptors for both graphs ... but I was wondering if there was another way. I'm not experienced with graph theory (if that isn't obvious by now!) Thanks -Alex

[BGL] Segmentation fault in add_vertex

I am sometimes getting segmentation faults (using gcc 3.3.4 under Cygwin) in calls to add_vertex( g ), where g is of the following type: boost::adjacency_list < boost::setS, boost::vecS, boost::undirectedS, Vertex_Properties, Edge_Length > This happens when I try to merge two graphs with repeated calls to add_vertex (not updating edges or anything, just adding new vertices), and usually when the returned index from add_vertex is around 40000-50000, but it depends on the data. Creating a single graph with more than 50000 vertices in one go is not a problem. Does anyone have an idea of what is going on in add_vertex, and what could be the problem here? I suspect it has something to do with the automatic resizing of the internal vector used to store the vertices. Is there a way to reserve memory in advance for this?

How to get BGL compiled with VC2005?

Hi, I am attempting to compile Boost with VC2005. All goes well, with the exception of the Boost Graph library. The compiler errors at the bottom of the email. flex and bison from http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/ The problems seem to be the unistd.h which is missing on Win32. I played around with setting YY_NO_UNISTD_H in the Jamfile and the header files themselves. However, I'm not an expert (and have obviously been unsuccessful!). Hello Everybody! I am trying to extract a part of a graph. Speaking in terms of the BGL, I do a copy from a filtered graph object into a new graph. To do so, I defined a VerticePredicate for the filtered graph. As a result not all vertices in the graph are present in the filtered version. This implies that some edges do disappear in the filtered version fo the graph. Question about template optimization

I need help with this one, even though it's a pure C++ question, it's about template optimization: If a template class has methods that DO NOT depend on or use the type parameter(s) of the template will the code for the methods nevertheless get instantiated separately for each unique instance of the template class? For example, if there are 20 unique types used to declare 20 instances of template class X, do those methods get implemented 20 different times, needlessly, and cause a big code bloat? Even if most compilers are smart about this kind of thing, is it still better practice to separate from the template class (or method) all of the code that does not use the template type parameters? I don't see how this relates to the problem of providing an indirection ("pointer") construct such that, once you've have written xxxx_ptr<X> p(new X) ; you're done, once and for all, never asking _user_ code to deal with the intricacies of your xxxx_ptr *implementation*. When you come to think of it, a garbage collector is meant to provide _automatic_ garbage collection, not semi-automatic, or half-manual. Compounding the problem of memory management with additional idiosyncratic problems is not going to free that one remaining brain cell out of a total of 7, that holds the whole universe under your current consciousness level. Your program needs to be simplified, perhaps by splitting a large source code file into smaller files. I am unable to build boost.test 1.32.0 on MacOS X 10.3/10.4. The build fails due to some undefined symbols. On MacOS 10.3, these symbols are: cpp_main(int, char**) test_main(int, char**) init_unit_test_suite(int, char**) On 10.4, these symbols are __Z8cpp_mainiPPc __Z9test_mainiPPc __Z20init_unit_test_suiteiPPc Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it? Boost question about static method of a class

Hi all, Just wondering if I can do this with Boost: I have a number of classes that all have the same static method with the same arguments. I want to register these classes somewhere/somehow so that later on I can do something like: aClassName::StaticMethod(pData, len); // for example At runtime aClassName whould be the actual class, for example would resolve to: BobsClass::StaticMethod(pData, len); In Java I think I would use the class "Class" to do something like this, but dont know how in C++. I cannot find a generic factory implementation in boost. I have implemented my own, lightweight and header-only factory class: libfactory++ [http://freshmeat.net/projects/libfactory] which I would like to make available to boost. Run-time problem with VC6, stlport and boost (1.32) regex

Hi, I'm getting this runtime error in my program. c:\stlport-4.6.2\stlport\stl\debug\_iterator.h(179): STL assertion failure : __check_same_owner(__x, __y) The code that causes this is like this (Actual code slightly modified). It is the access of the match that triggers the error above. boost::smatch m; if (regex_match(s, m, reg)) { (here)--> s_info.version = m[1]; } I'm using stlport 4.6.2 with boost-1.32 on W2K and VC6 SP6. stlport is built with default options and boost is built like this: boost-jam-3.1.10-1-ntx86/bjam.exe -sTOOLS=msvc-stlport -sSTLPORT_PATH="c:" -sSTLPORT_VERSION=4.6.2 -sBUILD="debug release <runtime-link>static <threading>multi <stlport-iostream>on" install Any idea what can be wrong? Surely a simple access of the resulting match shouldn't cause this type of assertion to fire (or is there some subtle bug in my program that I'm missing!?) boost.serialization crash

Hi, I was using the boost.serialization library to my great satisfaction on an intel machine running Linux. I then ported the code to a MIPS machine. I compiled boost using bjam with a mips compiler that isn't included in the available toolsets. Everything works well _until_ I try destroying the binary archives I use. When the destructor is called, I get a segmentation fault. My guess is that the serialization library relies on something else which wasn't compiled properly. But what? I built boost as follows: bjam -sTOOLS=gcc -sGXX=/usr/mips/bin/mips-linux-g++ --libdir=/usr/mips/lib/ --includedir=/usr/mips/include/ -sGCC_ROOT_DIRECTORY=/usr/mips install I have a lib directory and an include directory under /usr/mips. While building boost I got a whole bunch of errors, and not all the targets were successfully built, but I had no idea what to do, so I tried anyway... Thanks

I have an application that implements the Observer pattern, based on the GOF code and was interested in using Boost.Signals in a new application. Before committing myself, I decided to check the relative performance when signalling two observers. Both tests were performed on Windows XP, using MSVC 8 beta 2, with the /Ox optimisation. Declaring boost.serialization archivers as members

Hi, After doing what I described in the subject, I found that when marshalling data between processes, the same data gets sent over and over again. It's as if the archiver has some internal copy of the stream, and keeps serializing that stream over and over. Anyone else have this problem, or is it some pitfall in my implementation? Thanks

Compiler status table for Boost v1.32?

Hello, I am interested in seeing the compiler status page for the 1.32 release of Boost. I was able to follow links on www.boost.org to see the compiler status for the head of the cvs repository: http://www.meta-comm.com/engineering/boost-regression/CVS-HEAD/developer /index.html, However, I could not find information for previous releases.
