I had forced it to use socket_select_interrupter because the pipe_select_interrupter wasn't compiling due to (what I thought was) a lack of a pipe implementation on VxWorks. Filesystem problems

How do you get the path class to accept a windows drive letter? Suppose I have a dir named c:\Foo, the path constructor throws for every combo I can think of c:\\Foo, etc. I can however, say /Foo and everything works. Using boost1_33_1, VS 2005, XP Pro SP2 and linking with libboost_filesystem-vc80-mt-s-1_33_1.lib

[serialization] exception in text_iarchive constructor

Hello, I get exception from text_iarchive constructor when I try to read a previously saved(serialized) file. This doesn't happen every time. It only happens when I try to run the test case through regression tcl script(I am not sure if this piece of information is of any help). I get either stream error or St9bad_alloc( bad_alloc ?). When I get exception If I try to read the file using getline, it fails too. ifstream::good() returns true before calling text_iarchive/getline though. If I use file command on that 'saved' file, I get following: "ASCII text, with very long lines, with no line terminators" As you can understand I can't reproduce this in a small testcase. I have no clue what's going wrong here. Any sort of help will be helpful. Thanks, Krishanu

I am on a Mac with OS X 10.4 and trying to compile the boost/Python examples in tutorial or quickstart using Bjam v3.1.14 OS=MACOSX. [BGL-Python] __len__ and __iter__ for property maps

I'm trying to build BGL-Python from SVN. I managed to build it successfully on Windows (VC 8.0) but I'm having problems with gcc 3.4 on Linux; although it does compile, it doesn't expose in Python two property map methods, __len__ and __iter__. [1.34.0] Problem building with VS 7.1.

Hi all. When attempting to build Boost 1.34.0 on Windows XP SP2 (full updates applied) using MSVC 7.1 (both with and without SP1 applied) several of the libraries fail to build. They cause Visual Studio's compiler cl.exe to crash with a 'Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library' error message box stating: 'A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.'. Hello, I have the Intel 9 compiler for Windows $ which icl /cygdrive/c/Program Files/Intel/Compiler/C++/9.0/Ia32/Bin/icl and when I try to compile boost 1_34_0 with the command the shell stops more or less immediately at: compile-c-c++ bin.v2\libs\test\build\intel-win\debug\threading-multi\execution_monitor.obj and a window pops up saying Windows cannot open this file: execution_monitor.obj.rsp What do I wrong? andreas

Converting loop to using boost::lambda where containers has boost::shared_ptrs

I have a loop which I am trying to convert to using a boost::lambda function. typedef std::vector< boost::shared_ptr<Verification_Type_Info> > Append_Data_t; Append_Data_t m_data; ... Used in .... boost::uint32_t new_indent_limit = 2; for ( Append_Data_t::const_iterator cpos = m_data.begin(); cpos != m_data.end(); ++cpos ) { output << (*cpos)->to_String ( new_indent_limit ); } Now I figure out that I can use the std::for_each algorithm for the iteration. I just need to supply the beginning and end forward iterators for m_data. What has me confused, since the lambda example page is not clear to me, is how do I call the member function 'to_String' for each Vertification_Type_Info object in the m_data container? My idea was to do: std::for_each ( m_data.begin(), m_data.end(), output << (_1 ->* &Verification_Type_Info::to_String) ( new_indent_limit ) ); This idea does not compile. I get errors about trying to send a boost::lambda::operator->* to std::stringstream variable 'output'. If a &_1 will give me the address of the object in the container at a position will *_1 dereference the pointer at that position? Stephen

Wrong member definitions in limits.hpp

I found that the current implementation of limits.hpp contains two errornous member definitions, which I reported in the bug-tracking facility, see http://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/972 I should add that I found this issue in the HEAD of the cvs repository. Since boost is moving to svn, I checked the current snapshot svn repository and did not find any boost/limits.hpp, *although* several files still depend on it, e.g. boost/bit_reference.hpp boost/bit_vector.hpp boost/circilar_buffer/base.hpp boost/dynamic_bitset.hpp boost/graph/ddnw_random_paths.hpp boost/graph/dijkstra_random_paths.hpp boost/indexed_set/seq_index_ops.hpp boost/integer_log2.hpp boost/io/iomanip_repeat.hpp boost/io/value_stream.hpp boost/linear_sort/property_map.hpp .... [Multiindex] Const_mem_fun from base class

Hello, I get an error when I'm trying to use a const member function in a multi-index container, as a template parameter for indexed_by<>. This const member function comes from a base class, from which the class contained in the multiindex container is derived. The error is the following: /home/yardbird/documenti/work/prog/piranha/pyranha/Gsp/../../src/polynomial.h:41: error: could not convert template argument ‘&piranha::base_monomial_gmp_array<piranha::double_cf>::get_degree’ to ‘int (piranha::monomial_gmp_array<piranha::double_cf>::*)()const’ The member function is named "get_degree", and returns an integer. The base class is "base_monomial_gmp_array", the derived class is, unsurprisingly, "monomial_gmp_array". If I "lift" this function to the derived class, by re-defining it there, the problem disappears. I have a hunch that probably with some clever typedef or some static_cast wizardy this could be resolved, however my experiments have not resolved anything yet. poisson_distribution gives false results for high means

Hi, I'm using the boost/random library in a research project and really appreciate it, but I recently came across an annoying problem with the poisson_distribution. When instanciated with a relatively high expected mean (it happened for mean>10,000) the results given by this distribution is arbitrarily false. Actually the algorithm uses a comparison with exp(- mean) which I guess explains it all. Depending on the computer's precision this can be 'equal' to zero for relatively low values of 'mean'. Hence the random variables generated with the help of this distribution clearly do not follow a poisson distribution when the mean is too high. Of course a clever and careful user (unlike me) would not have fallen on this, but I thought it was worse mentionning -- especially since a well known workaround consists in using a normal distribution when 'mean' is 'high' (>100 usually does it...). Also, maybe a short notice of this problem could be made in the distribution's documentation ? Regards, Thibauld

Hi, I am a bit confused about the purpose of GUID. My understanding was, that it is a user defined id for a class, so that the serialization mechanism knows what types to instanciate on load. I somehow assumed it to be a replacement (or equivalent) of the numbers in the class_id attributes. by inserting: BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_GUID( bus_schedule, "BusSchedule" ); I'd expected to find something like: <schedule class_id="BusSchedule" in the xml file, but I get only: <schedule class_id="1" I know that another purpose of the BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT family of macros is to instanciate the <Archive, T*> pairs, but what is the "BusSchedule" string then for. If my assumption was right, where do I have to place the macros exactly then. I tried at the end of the header with the classes. I then tried at the beginning, after the includes. That didn't work unless I forward declared the classes (no surprise really). Also, is there some docs/tutorials/further reading on xml archives. I am probably going to make my own archive, and need to understand more about the mechanism. Thanks for your help, Ingo

I just ran the test program on my machine with VC 7.1 and it seems to build and execute just fine. Also I not that the RC 1.34 test of this facility passes as well. Hi, I am doing very large loop where i need to tokenize a string in each iteration. At each iteration of the loop there will be a string contained in char*. It seems that in order to use the boost tokenizer, it is necessary to copy the string into a std::string rather than using the data directly from the char*. [Build 1.34.0 MinGW] I'm getting different build files for 1.34.0 than I did for 1.33.1

When I built boost 1.33.1 with GCC 3.4.5 on WinXP I got 274 files in the \boost\lib directory consisting of both DLLs and .lib files. When I built boost 1.34 (following the new getting started directions) I only got 154 files in \boost\lib none were DLL or LIB, they were all .a files. Interestingly when the 1.34.0 build starts I get "Unable to construct ./install-unversioned" messages that I don't get in the 1.33.1 build: ...found 1 target... C:\src\c++\boost_1_34_0>bjam --toolset=gcc --prefix=C:\Boost1.34.0 install Building Boost.Regex with the optional Unicode/ICU support disabled. Building 32-bit on linux x86-64?

I have a linux machine on x86-64 that I'm trying to use to build Boost in 32-bit. I can build other source in 32-bit, so I figure my environment is set up correctly unless Boost needs something I'm not thinking of. I executed bjam as: bjam --toolset=gcc address-model=32 --with-signals stage Everything builds fine, but the libs aren't 32-bit, file says: libboost_signals-gcc34.so: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), stripped Any ideas? -- Nick

Using boost 1.34 with VC 8 Express Edition and the documentation pointing to: http://www.boost.org/libs/filesystem/doc/tr2_proposal.html#basic_path-itera… I would like to ask following: the doc states: 1. For any other iterator value a const basic_directory_entry<Path>& is returned. [...] For any other iterator value a const basic_directory_entry<Path>* is returned. In my case a string_type is returned. 2. "Directory iteration shall not yield directory entries for the current (dot) and parent (dot dot) directories." In my case begin() points to the current (dot) directory. Are these features not implemented in the current 1.34 release? [boost::program_options] Modification of values after the parsing process

Hello! I would like to transform (add) some options after the parsing process has finished. Unfortunately variables_map has no non const members which could acomplish this task. Doing const_cast or using std::map interface, which is not explicitly described as parent class of variables_map is not my first choice. Hello, I'm using the Microsoft Visual C++ 7.1 and 8.0 compilers and I want to build Boost 1.34.0 without native wchar_t support. With Boost 1.32.0 I used the feature <native-wchar_t> to turn off the native wchar_t support of the Microsoft compilers. It seams that this feature isn't supported by the MSVC toolset any more. Is it possible to turn off the native wchar_t support within the command line of bjam? Many thanks, Jochen.

The plan is to release 1.34.1 within the next two weeks and then close 1.34.x development. We will be using Trac http://svn.boost.org to track 1.34.1 issues and changes. Every change to 1.34.1 requires an associated Trac ticket. I will not accept patches without Trac ticket. Furthermore for a change to be accepted the correponding Trac ticket needs to have the 1.34.1 milestone assigned. Please don't assign this milestone yourself. I will assign the milestone once it's decided it should go into 1.34.1. The deadline for submitting 1.34.1 tickets is Wednesday May 23rd 6.00 pm PST. Here is the detailed process. 1. Submit bug in Trac 2. Request 1.34.1 milestone for ticket by posting to the developer list. (please copy me directly on this one) 3. 1.34.1 milestone is assigned by Release Manager. Ticket is assigned to developer 4. Post patch referencing ticket to the developer list. (Attach patch to ticket in Trac)(please copy me directly on this one) 5. [1.33.1] Problem with fast_pool_allocator across DLL boundaries?

Platform: Win32, VC 7 & VC 8.1. I have run into a problem using fast_pool_allocator across DLLs: it 'leaks' memory. In this example, DLL A: 1. declares a container type that uses fast_pool_allocator 2. provides a function to populate the container type DLL B creates instance(s) of the container type & calls DLL A to populate those instances. DLL A ----- struct S { /* A bunch of data */ }; typedef std::list<S, boost::fast_pool_allocator<S> > container_of_s; /* Fills s with a number of S instances */ void dll_populate_container_of_s(container_of_s &s); DLL B ----- void fun_a() { for (int nLoop=0; nLoop<100; ++nLoop) { container_of_s sc; dll_populate_container_of_s(sc); /* manipulate sc in some way */ /* sc is destroyed, but memory is not returned to the pool it was allocated from */ } } The problem is that the memory allocated by fast_pool_allocator inside DLL A (by dll_populate_container_of_s) is not returned to the same pool it was allocated from. I've tracked this down to fast_pool_allocator being backed by a singleton. It turns out that each DLL get's it's own copy of that singleton. So the memory allocated by fast_pool_allocator<S> inside DLL A is returned to a different fast_pool_allocator<S> inside DLL B. Technically not a leak, but the end result is that repeated calls to dll_populate_container_of_s cause more & more memory to be consumed. Does anyone have a solution or workaround for this? Or an alternate pool allocator? [1.33.1][program_options] long option descriptions cause a crash in windows

I am using program_options on an app that I am compiling for linux and windows (vs2005). I have found that long option descriptions cause a fatal error on windows when they are long enough that they need to wrap to the next line. (I'm having no problem in linux). If I run the debug version I get an assertion failed in xstring. Release just gives a fatal error. How can I wrap class functions that return a reference?

Hi guys, I'm very new to boost.python, so my question might have been already answered. I'm having a lot of trouble creating interfaces for class member functions that return a reference to an object. problems running boost_thread library

I have tried to run an example using the latest release of boost and I got the following error: error while loading shared libraries: libboost_thread-gcc41-mt-1_34.so.1.34.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I have boost installed correctly and I just added -lboost_thread-gcc41-mt-1_34. the problem is not in the code because I have also tried with an empty main and the problem persists. and the fact is that all the libraries are in the same directory (/usr/local/lib) if any idea I'll appreciate it very much to you response me at yperaltag(a)gmail.com thanks in advance.

Hi, I just upgraded from Visual Studio 2003 to Visual Studio 2005 and I am getting consistent crashes in runtime in the signals library. The problem always occurs when trying to call the signal. If I remove the call to a signal, I get a crash the next time that I try to call a signal. The crash occurs in the named_slot_map_iterator in the init_next_group function. The strange thing is that if I build a project from scratch in 2005 I don't experience the problem. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with my configuration, but this code worked in Visual Studio 2003. I'm getting the same problem in boost 1.33.1 and 1.34.0. Any ideas would be appreciated. Hi all I'm using boost 1.34 with postgresql c++ binding (libpqxx). I've got this fatal error: fatal error C1001: An internal error has occurred in the compiler. (compiler file 'F:\SP\vctools\compiler\utc\src\P2\main.c[0x10C68EF3:0x00000008]', line 182) To work around this problem, try simplifying or changing the program near the locations listed above. Please choose the Technical Support command on the Visual C++ Help menu, or open the Technical Support help file for more information when compiling sources with BOOST_AUTO macro from boost/typeof library. The code that triggers this error is: --- pqxx::nontransaction T(*m_pSQLConnection, "GetCustomer"); BOOST_AUTO(rs, T.exec("some select...")); // pqxx::result rs = T.exec(""some select..."); --- pqxx is namespace for postgresql c++ binding. I have registered pqxx::result with BOOST_TYPEOF_REGISTER_TYPE(pqxx::result). It's strange because I have also registered pqxx::result::const_iterator with BOOST_TYPEOF_REGISTER_TYPE(pqxx::result::const_iterator) and when using auto with pqxx::result::const_iterator there isn't fatal error and everything is compiled fine --- for(BOOST_AUTO(it, rs.begin()); it != rs.end(); ++it) { ... } --- So it looks like there is some bug in VS compiler. Boost 1.34 unit test linking problem

Just downloaded and built Boost 1.34 (MS Windows, VS2005). Everything works except those apps that use the Boost Unit Test framework - I get the following linker error: error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol "class boost::unit_test::test_suite * __cdecl init_unit_test_suite(int,char * * const)" (?init_unit_test_suite@@YAPAVtest_suite@unit_test@boost@@HQAPAD@Z) referenced in function "void __cdecl boost::unit_test::framework::init(int,char * * const)" (?init@framework@unit_test@boost@@YAXHQAPAD@Z) Note that I am defining BOOST_AUTO_TEST_MAIN (and use BOOST_AUTO_TEST_CASE) so I don't have to supply my own init_unit_test_suite function. Any ideas how I can quickly get this working? The test notes haven't been updated for 1.34.

problems on asio test cases with latest release of boost

I installed the latest version of boost (2007-05-11) in Debian perfectly, and when I installed asio with it and typed make check, 26 test cases failed of 42 total. Someone know how to solve this? Or perhaps asio is not compatible with this release of boost?

[asio] Multiple listeners on different ports?

Hi, My application needs to listen on one port for a certain service and another for another service. Service A is a registration-type service and service B is a typical client-server response service. I need to be able to handle concurrent connections on both ports. I would also like to use asio streams rather than the async read/write operations (its just easier!). What I had thought of was spawning two threads for the two services. My questions are: * Is it possible to use streams with concurrent connections? * Would asio be unhappy if I used the above "design"? * Is there a better suggestion/example I can look at? Hi all! I have a question, does someone know how the build script finds out where the Platform SDK is installed? Visual C++ Express Edition does not come bundled with a platform SDK, so it must be installed separately (MS setup does not offer to install it under Visual C++ dir) and in my case I get some errors when compiling the threading library. Hi, I'm trying out boost 1.34 and running into some troubles getting my test programs to link. They were working fine with 1.33.1, and rebuilding with 1.34 now fails to find "main" in the boost unit test framework library. After a little investigation, I found that the .so does not have main() in it, but the .a does. System: suse linux 9.1 compiler: g++ 3.3.3 boost version: 1.34 I built boost by simply issuing: ./configure && make && make install I've searched for hints what may have changed or why it's no longer working (that is, what I'm doing wrong) but I just don't see any relevant documentation. DeSerialization to update content of object instead of construct new object

Hi I am using boost serialization to synchronise objects between different computers (network). The objects would be serializated as a string instead of a file by using the class stringstream(instead of fstream). The string would be transferred via TCP/IP layer. Let simpify the situation as only two computers (Master and Slave) ,both of two computers have N objects and I wanna synchronise their content. I create a vector of pointer ( std::vector<base *> m_vpBase ) which points to the dirty objects. Both of two computers have this vector. Let assume the vectors are already pointing to the corresponding objects. For Tx side, it would serialize the objects as a string. For Rx side, I want to update the content of the objects that its vector is pointing to. Tx side: oa << BOOST_SERIALIZATION_NVP(m_vpBase); Rx side: oa >> BOOST_SERIALIZATION_NVP(m_vpBase ); However, the above code would construct new objects. What i want is just update the content of the objects , not construct new objects. I know how to update the content for one object by using pointer ( base * m_pBase). Building bjam 1.34 on vc8 64bit?

When I try to build bjam 1.34 with "build vc8", I get a TON of the following errors: LIBCMTD.lib(<xxx>.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol __security_check_cookie (Happens on a bunch of bjam objs too) I presume this is because of the "safe" vc8 runtime, but how do I get around this issue? I presumed the vc8 toolset would take this into account, but it apparently does not. Is there some way to pass defines to build.bat? -- Nick

gcc automatic linking

Hi, I'm currently experiencing an issue with Boost 1.34.0 and gcc 4.1.1. I'm depending on boost_filesystem from my program for some operations. When using boost 1.33.1, I was able to link against libboost_filesystem-[...].a only by doing -lboost_filesystem and by including the stage/libs directory of boost. Now, if I don't modify anything, I'm getting linker errors. The current workaround is to put '-lboost_filesystem-gcc41' or to rename libboost_filesystem-gcc41.a to libboost_filesystem.a The thing is, everytime I'm using other stuff from boost requiring linking against a library, I'll have to rename the library on my workstation or modify the Makefile... So, I'd like to know if there is anything else I can do to fix this automatic linker problem. Thank you, Pascal

[bug] Suggestion for clarification to front page

In http://boost.org/libs/libraries.htm, I suggest changing the heading and link that reads "Broken compiler workarounds". 1. If this means "Workarounds for broken compilers", then change either to that phrase or to "Broken-compiler workarounds"; prefer the former for clarity. 2. If this means "Compiler workarounds that are broken", change to that phrase. As it stands, this is ambiguous: it is not clear which noun the adjective "broken" modifies. Does this section give workarounds (a good thing) or report workarounds that are broken (an unfortunate thing)? Following the links, I see it is the former (after all, what would be the point in giving workarounds that are broken?), but this is not obvious at first glance. Sorry if this is not the right place to post this.

Cross-compilation with mingw32 on Linux

Hi Boost users, I have setup a MinGW cross-compilation suite on my Linux box. To create a Windows binary, the only thing I need to do is call specific C++ compiler name: $ i686-mingw32-g++ -o hello.exe hello.cpp Now I have a Windows executable on my disk, I can test it with wine: $ wine hello.exe Hello, world! I've written a program in C++; I would like to create binary for windows. I'm using Boost libraries, so I need to cross-compile Boost as well. How to define _SCL_SECURE_NO_DEPRECATE when building signals? (or, win64 with intel compiler?)

I caught the note that I needed to define _SCL_SECURE_NO_DEPRECATE on windows when building with vc8 (or, in my case the intel compiler, which uses the same SDK). Is there some mechanism for doing this in bjam? Or, asked another way, has anyone succesfully built boost.signals in 64-bit on windows using ICL 9.1? And if so, what magic bjam command line incantation did you use? :-) -- Nick

When I was searching for a view library to have some container adapters so that I can store a portion of a dynamic container in a class, I came across Boost View library and uBLAS range_vector and slice_vector. (Iterators are unsuitable for my purpose as I can't store a portion of a container through iterator when container are resizing (through push_back & pop_front) , and also iterators are dumb enough so they dont give the index for the container they are locating :( ) So I needed the alternative view classes or container adapters , which are store-able even when container is allocating/reallocating as long as the portion of the container which the view is pointing is available. At present I have my own view classes (only the classes I need ) , but planning to switch to boost View classes. A few questions regarding boost View library (from sandbox) 1) is it an accepted library ? if not when it will be accepted ? 2) Apart from range_view all other views are based on container (i.e they are container adapter ). So all other views are store-able while range view is not ( when the iterator becomes invalid , the view is also) any reason for this decision ? 3) for step_iterator, why no step_view is given ? 3) How can I make a composite view mixing a set of views like 2 range view, or one range_view and one permutation_view. For eg. I want to make a container adapter for a container taking a range 2-10 (range_view) and 15,18,17 (permutation_view ). AFAIK some of this mixed views are supported by blitz library. I won't promise much on the text side, but I borrowed my wife's new camera and will be taking some photos during the conference and posting them. Hi all, It is not possible to use the macro BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_GUID or BOOST_IS_ABSTRACT etc. with a template class. Installing boost with bloodshed dev c++ and windows xp

I am trying to install boost -- I have a bloodshed dev c++ compiler 4.9.9.2 and windows xp. I am trying to install boost and then quantlib but am stuck at the boost stage. I find that the instructions at boost.org appear to assume more knowledge of dos commands and path environment variables than I possess. I sometimes get the message that bjam is not recognized, and I sometimes get the message that the toolsets are not configured. I do know how to add paths to the path environment variable but not much else. I tried to follow Terrence August's online instructions (which are excellent) http://www.stanford.edu/~taugust/quantlib.html but this interfered with my dev cpp compiler. Hi, I am new to boost, but was able to get my own classes serialized. However, when I include <boost/serialization/vector.hpp> and try to serialize a vector<int> I get the compile messages below. Hi, I've been trying to use Boost.Asio in a project and compilation failed with VC 8.0. Compiler complains that unary operator! that should be member of asio::error is not defined. I tried to compile lib/asio/example/http/client/ from CVS HEAD and got another compile issue: ..\..\..\..\..\boost/asio/ip/unicast.hpp(62) : error C2065: 'IPV6_UNICAST_HOPS': undeclared identifier Is there known compile issue with asio? Is this error report indicating that I have a problem in my use of boost or my code? And a fix for missing files in the install (bjam install). Please give it a try and report any problems to the developer list or directly to me. MinGW binary installer for Boost?

Hi all, Is there such a thing as a binary for Boost under MinGW? As far as I can tell, the correct way to get started with Boost on MinGW is to download the .EXE installer, unpack to c:\Boost, then run bjam "-sMINGW_ROOT_DIRECTORY=c:\MinGW" "-sTOOLS=mingw" install I found that this didn't install the libraries where I expected, however. I found this comment: http://www.mpi-inf.mpg.de/~dfischer/manual/manual_topic38.html#topic41 which says that I have to do a bunch of manual file moving/renaming. Is that right? Really? There must be a better way, surely? Please let me know if I'm missing something, or if there is a better way to get started with Boost under MinGW/MSYS. Cheers JP

Hello, I'm trying to use boost::ptr_vector with constant members, like // Excerpt 1 boost::ptr_vector<const int> myVector; myVector.push_back(new int(5)); //This line fails, see comment below myVector[1] = 7; //This should fail, can't assign to const I can do the following with boost::shared_ptr, which is the effect I'm trying to achieve with the above // Except 2 boost::shared_ptr<const int> intPtr(new int(5)); intPtr* = 7; //This won't compile, can't assign to const Returning to excerpt 1, the second line fails, and I don't know why. It causes an error deep within the bowels of the boost. I've tried many permutations placing const in different places, with no luck. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated! Dear boosters! I have a problem installing boost libraries as a relative path to project's include directories. MSVC has 2 options to install libraries: - globally for every C++ project - locally for a single project (specified in project settings) My intention is to install Boost locally, since this way any other developer is able to check-out the project from the source control system and without setting paths or global directories in MSVC start using the project. I have successfully compiled boost libs and copied include and lib directories into the proper place. Afterwards I tried to include <boost/variant/variant.hpp> file. Preprocessor found it and included correctly, but I receive an error from another file: [Some_path]\thirdparty\include\boost\variant\detail\config.hpp(16) : fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'boost/config.hpp': No such file or directory There is really no such file in the include/boost directory. Did the installation fail or do I miss smth. include and lib directories are taken after passing the install paramenter to the bjam executable. Many thanks, Ovanes

Hi all Suppose I have two classes A and B like those ones : class A { // ... B *m_b; }; class B { // ... std::vector<A *> m_a; }; m_b is used to know who is the parent of the object. [Serialization] problem linking on Windows using Visual Studio and SCons

I've looked everwhere I know to look (MSDN, SCons archive, Boost archive, etc) and tried tweeking my code every way I know how (and countless other suggestions found Googling), but for some reason I cannot get boost_serialization lib to link into my application. If I build with -DBOOST_SERIALIZATION_NO_LIB, I get LNK2005/LNK2019 errors. MSDN says these are CString related, but their "solution" is only for MFC - which won't work with my setup... I'm using SCons to build my "Custom Makefile" QT application - Visual Studio is basically just an editor for my environment. If I leave off -DBOOST_SERIALIZATION_NO_LIB, I get LNK1104 (can't open Boost Serialization lib file)... even though the path to the Boost Serialization lib is explictily listed on the command line (and it is there)! I think this could have something to do with Microsoft's auto-linking, but I'm not 100% sure. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Best wishes, Ben

[program_options] link error

I am trying to use boost.program_options, but I'm getting a link error: undefined reference to `boost::program_options::options_description::options_description(std::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char> > const&, unsigned int)' I compiled boost 1.33.1 normally on linux with gcc, and I don't see a libboost_program_options or some such to link against. I don't see anything in the documentation on boost.org about what I should link with. I also don't have any source in BOOST_BASE/libs/program_options which would explain why there is no library. The documentation also mentions /libs/program_options/examples which I don't have. Do I need to download the .cpps for this separately? templated class member

I have a list of fundamental types (known at compile time). For each of these types I want to declare a templated member in a class. So, instead of class foo { private: int int_variable; double double_variable; ... /* rest of types */ }; I want something like class foo { private: variable_list<int, double, ... /* rest of types */> variable; }; and then access "foo::variable" with a template-like syntax. I have found what appears to be a bug in ASIO. From boost/asio/detail/socket_select_interrupter.hpp, starting on line 53: sockaddr_in4_type addr; socket_addr_len_type addr_len = sizeof(addr); addr.sin_family = AF_INET; addr.sin_addr.s_addr = inet_addr("127.0.0.1"); addr.sin_port = 0; if (socket_ops::bind(acceptor.get(), (const socket_addr_type*)&addr, addr_len, ec) == socket_error_retval) { boost::system::system_error e(ec, "socket_select_interrupter"); boost::throw_exception(e); } addr needs to be cleared before it is used. The failure to do this caused the bind call to fail for me on VxWorks 6.4.
