Greetings. I downloaded 1.34.1 build from Boost Consulting. It comes with prebuilt libraries for VS 2005. I like it very much as I use Boost.Thread in my projects. But this package comes without prebuild libraries for PocketPC 2003 ARM target. How can I build them? I read about bjam but don't see what arguments I should set. This - bjam --v2 "-sTOOLS=msvc" "-sBUILD=release <windows>pocketpc2003 <charset>wide <architecture>arm4" install doesn't work. Sorry for stupid question.

[multi-index] bug or not?

Hello! I have a question regarding the multi-index behaviour, Let's say I have a multi-index container containing some hashed keys. What should happen with this container is empty and I retrieve an indexed by hash view into it? I have on Visual C++ 2005 an access violation, since I am trying to retrieve a view by it's hashed keys into the const container. Many thanks, Ovanes

Errors in custom predicate support docu

Hi, I tried a few times to report the following bug to trac but it was always rejected as spam!?? According to http://www.boost.org/libs/test/doc/components/test_tools/custom_predicate_s… there exists a class boost::test_tools::extended_predicate_value. (Or is it a user supplied class?) Nevertheless I didn't found such a class in Boost.test and even trunk contains only predicate_result which is different. This makes predicate support very hard to use for me. Please provide proper documentation for it! I hope this is the right way to run tests in a loop and to condense the output. Jens

serialization: curious un-serializing issue RFI

I have a curious problem that's just sprung up, after changing from using plain-old-pointers to using boost::shared_ptrs internally in my data structures (stl hash_map and map) The problem is that while the XML archive works correctly, both text and binary fail (they all used to work). This is using gcc 4.0.1 on darwin and VC8 on windows, boost version is 1.34.1 The failure occurs while unserializing an archive, specifically when trying to read back a shared_ptr to an already unserialized object. In the archive, it shows the object (pointer) as an object_reference (the same reference id in XML and text). While the XML version reads the pointer back correctly, the text version fails and returns NULL. I have not determined the exact reason why the text version fails (it doesn't throw, just returns NULL). The serialization does not appear to have any problems. Since my actual code is reasonably complicated, and I haven't created a simplified version that demonstrates the problem, I'm not including code now - I'd just like to find out if this sounds familiar to anyone, that is, working under XML but failing under text and binary. It does appear to be shared_ptr specific, too, since everything was working before replacing naked pointers with shared_ptrs.

Hi, I've inherited some complex math code that makes large usage of Matrices based on raw pointer arrays. I need to serialize/deserialize these arrays as is and am looking to use boost::serialization package. My attempt at doing so results in the following errors (mostly about non integral array size). Hi, When I try to read a graphml file an exception is thrown but cannot be passed back to python through boost.python as no converter is registered. Hi Christian, I assume you need to use either wchar_t or set in Visual C++ the charset not to multi-byte but not implemented. Otherwise you are trying to use pass single-byte strings as multi-byte string params. using ref() with threads

Hello folks, we recently got stuck with one minor inconvenience with boost thread (which we fixed), but somehow we cannot explain why it did not work. But all the TCP/IP related stuff in thread did not work (was sort of stuck). I was under impression that ref() is just a way to pass "reference" to the anything (including functional object), so it will create copy of ref, and not Super_Func class itself. Newbie: Building Boost.Python Libs Nomenclature

I just need a sanity check: I would like to embed a Python interpreter in my C++ application. I am following all the instructions as accurately as I can (http://www.boost.org/more/getting_started/windows.html) When I build the Python library binary (as mentioned in the Boost.Python installation instructions) I do not get any errors. If necessary I can respond with my Boost.Build output - but it's rather lengthy. Anyway, this paragraph in the Boost.Python Embedding tutorial says I'm looking for a library file named "boost_python_debug.lib" which does not exist. Here is the paragraph in question: ' Boost.Python's library comes in two variants. Both are located in Boost's /libs/python/build/bin-stage subdirectory. On Windows, the variants are called boost_python.lib (for release builds) and boost_python_debug.lib (for debugging). If you can't find the libraries, you probably haven't built Boost.Python yet. See Building and Testing on how to do this.' (from: http://www.boost.org/libs/python/doc/tutorial/doc/html/python/embedding.html) But I'm not getting any build errors, in fact I'm building all the different MSVC runtime variants (debug, release, static, dynamic, etc) and they all appear to be built - but they are named different than "boost_python.lib" and are not in the /libs/python/build/bin-stage directory. Hi, 1 My program under Code Blocks makes use of Boost. The arrangement of my files is the following: in the directory of the source files of my program there is the directory "boost" containing the following directories: "filesystem", "config", "iterator","range","detail", "mpl", "preprocessor", "tools" and the file boost-build.jam. 2 The file that makes use of boost in my project contains the following lines: #include <string> using namespace std; #include "boost\filesystem\path.hpp" #include "boost\filesystem\operations.hpp" using namespace boost::filesystem; 3 At build I get the message :"boost/preprocessor/config/config.hpp" no such file or directory and several other similar messages about other files of the same directory and about other files of the "mpl" directory. I've followed all the instructions here http://www.boost.org/doc/html/jam/building.html and here http://www.boost.org/doc/html/bbv2/installation.html At end of step 4 of http://www.boost.org/doc/html/bbv2/installation.html, the problem at build remains the same:I get the same message. [signals] How not to ignore 'trackable'?

I have a callback design based around Boost.Signals. The documentation says: http://boost.org/doc/html/signals/tutorial.html#id1627926 "Warning: User-defined function objects and function objects from other libraries (e.g., Boost.Function or Boost.Lambda) do not implement the required interfaces for trackable object detection, and will silently ignore any bound trackable objects. Future versions of the Boost libraries will address this limitation." How could I code Filter to honor the 'trackability' of the passed-in handler? 2. slot_type is not itself callable: mHandler() doesn't work. 2a. I could use boost::function for handler_t instead: typedef boost::function<void()> handler_t; but the documentation promises that this, too, will ignore Filter's trackable base class. 2b. I could make Filter store a signal_t instead of a handler_t. Filter's constructor could call mHandler.connect(handler) instead of initializing mHandler from handler. But that doesn't work because signal_t is noncopyable, and passing a Filter instance to connect() copies it. I'd be willing to make Filter trackable, stipulating that Filter instances must live on the heap: mySignal.connect(new Filter(etc.)); // or boost::bind() of same Then Filter could store signal_t because the Filter object wouldn't be copied. When the Listener object is destroyed, it would automatically disconnect from the Filter's signal_t. But that would leave me with an orphan Filter object with an empty signal_t permanently connected to mySignal. Could Filter be informed when slots are disconnected from its contained signal_t? When the last slot is disconnected, it could 'delete this'. With Filter trackable, that would disconnect it from mySignal, and everyone would be happy. (There's the performance cost of introducing another signal object through which the call must be forwarded, but I hope that will be negligible.) So: is there any way for Filter to intercept control when the last (only) slot disconnects from Filter::mHandler? (Filter stores a subclass of signal_t?) Is there any other way to accomplish what I'm trying to do here? Thanks.

The idea is that I use 'replace', it find some text like in expression and this will be an input for function... then in function something happen and output of the function replace in text the input of the function... For example I've got text "Solution: 5 and 4". Regular expression is "[0-9]" And the function is "add5" int add5(int input){return input+5} And the output of this function replace the number with number+5... And in the end text will be: "Solution: 10 and 9" In C++ with Boost? [typeof] Duplicate definition of boost::type_of::push_back

Hi, I'm testing with BOOST_TYPEOF_LIMIT_SIZE greater than 50 and native typeof disabled. I get a "class template has already been defined" error on "template<class V, class T> struct push_back" whenever BOOST_TYPEOF_LIMIT_SIZE is *not* a multiple of 50. This is because push_back is defined in both "typeof/vector.hpp" and, for example, "typeof/vector50.hpp". My fix is to change the push_back definition in "typeof/vector.hpp" to: # if BOOST_TYPEOF_LIMIT_SIZE < 50 template<class V, class T> struct push_back { typedef V type; }; # endif Can someone please confirm that this is the correct fix? Hi, As I can see from the documentation the library has only a forward compatibility. 3. Independent versioning for each class definition. That is, when a class definition changed, older files can still be imported to the new version of the class. Is there any way to achieve a backward compatibility? Thanks, Oleg.

Hi I notice boost shared_array compares the pointer address not the pointer themselves. Hi, Since the new update of boost::asio, I need to build boost::system. I built it using bjam in the boost/system/build directory, and it built: boost_system_vc80-gd-1_34_1.lib but my compiler needs: libboost_system-vc80-mt-gd-1_34_1.lib I'm not sure what the difference between the boost and libboost version, but I know the mt is multithreaded.... Thread Group fails to run

Hi all. I have developed some code allowing a thread group of 500 threads to run. However, as soon as the 381st thread is spawned, I get the following runtime error : terminate called after throwing an instance of 'boost::thread_resource_error' what(): boost::thread_resource_error The Boost documentation does not clarify the nature of the error, so I was wondering if anyone can help me out here. Using mpl::remove with template paramter

Hi all, I'm trying to use mpl::remove to do some processing with a template parameter, like this template<typename T0, typename T1=null_type, ... typename Tn=null_type> struct my_class { typedef mpl::vector<T0, T1,...Tn> my_vector; typedef mpl::remove<my_vector, null_type>::type my_non_vector; //failed here }; Compiler report that my_vector is not derive from my_class<T0, T1,..Tn>. It seems that 'remove' would test the sequence at once, and my_vector still un_known yet, so it fails, is this guess right? //-------------------------------------------------------------------------- And I've tried this fusion too: teypdef vector<Class1, Class2, null_type, null_type> vec; vec v; fusion::for_each<v, print>; it seems that it iterate 4 times, not 2, even size(vec) return 2. Hi, You recommended checking the "expression templates". However, expression templates (xpressive) provides the means of parsing the input expressions in to tokens. Compiling 1.34.1 on OpenSUSE 10.3

Hi there, OpenSUSE 10.3 is still delivered with Boost 1.33.1 . Hence I've downloaded Boost 1.34.1 and tried to compile it. I ran the configure script and then make. The resulting bjam immediately dies with an error: ./tools/jam/src/bin.linuxx86/bjam --user-config=user-config.jam /bin/sh: line 1: 2090 Speicherzugriffsfehler ./tools/jam/src/bin.linuxx86/bjam --user-config=user-config.jam "Speicherzugriffsfehler" means "memory access violation". This is on a Pentium-D dual-core system (4GB main memory) running with a 32-bit Linux kernel 2.6.22, g++ 4.2.1 . Does anyone have experience with this constellation ? Compilation of 1.34 worked fine on OpenSUSE 10.2 . Thanks and best regards, Ruediger

Question about versioning of serialization

Hello, we are currently implementing serialization versioning using boost and I am curious to know if their is a way to support a changing class hierarchy. Let's say C derives from A for a while and then a change requires C to derive from B instead, which derives from A. Is it possible to support such a change provided we know what default values are needed for the new class? I tried and even if don't serialize anything in class C I get stream errors because I believe boost saves some base info for each class. When it tries to reload those value from a old stream, obviously it desynchronizes it because the values are not in the stream. So is their a way around this? Also is it possible to support the removal of a class. If, for exemple C derives from B which in turn derives from A and suddenly B is removed. Is their a way to deal with this without invalidating all previously saved data? I'm trying to make sure my code compiles under gcc-4.3 before that compiler comes out. I'm currently stuck on an error it reports in boost, version 1.34.1 (which I downloaded seconds ago; error was also present in 1.34.0): In file included from ../boost/function/detail/prologue.hpp:16, from ../boost/function.hpp:22, from ../boost/iterator/transform_iterator.hpp:10, from [my code]: ../boost/function/function_base.hpp: In member function 'const std::type_info& boost::function_base::target_type() const': ../boost/function/function_base.hpp:485: error: dereferencing type-punned pointer will break strict-aliasing rules I don't understand how there's any type-punning going on at line 485, although to my untrained eye it looks a lot like it's returning a ref to a temporary. A couple lines later looks only very slightly fishier, but still shouldn't be breaking any aliasing rules. So I leave it to the experts to figure out what's going on here. -- Benoît

Is there any way to translate "what" messages from exceptions to another language? Hi All, I am not sure if this issue has been dealt with already in this forum. But I couldn't find satisfactory answer on the Net. I am using Boost in an application that is working perfectly fine. I had to modify the application in a number of ways and I copied it to a different folder, and when I try to build it, it complains with errors and warnings that have never occured with the orignal application. Everything seemed to be ok, I can read a graph from the example "mst.dot" file and from my own ".dot" files, I can write them back to a file. Hi, I'm new to Boost, I've been trying to use the Thread library that boost offers. I'm on a Kubuntu 7.1 box using G++ 4.1 Compiler with Boost 1.34. I've only been successful compiling my project when including libboost_thread-gcc41-mt-d.so library file. Hi, I am a C++/JAVA developer. Today someone was saying it is time to migrate from legacy C++ systems to JAVA. I love C++ :-( The trend in banking industry or belief in Banking projects is C++ is outdated and JAVA is the solution. One reason I felt is lack of open source enterprise level middlewares for C++. For java we have many EJB servers, Spring framework is there. Will boost be building libraries which will help to build enterprise level application? Some API's like iBatis, hibernate etc. Something similar to JSP and Tomcat equivalent? I think those will attract more developers to C++. Boost community is doing an excellent job. Boost.MPI compilation problems with MPICH2

Hi all, I was a happy user of Boost.MPI that was working together with the underlying OpenMPI. However, MPI_THREAD_MULTIPLE support of OpenMPI is quite clumsy and it hangs frequently (OpenMPI developers call this as being "lightly tested"). So, I installed MPICH2 that claims to supports thread-safe MPI. At the same time, I didn't want to remove my working OpenMPI implementation and my old Boost libraries built on top of that. Therefore, I rebuilt Boost (--with-mpi) using the new mpicxx of MPICH (so that it finds the correct MPICH2 directories, etc) on a different location . Everything went ok during compilation and installation. However, I have compilation errors when trying to run any mpi program. problem integrating lambda and gsl

I am writing some code that involves several uses of the gnu scientific library that I am trying to streamline using boost lambda. I am having some newbie problems with some rather lengthy compiler errors. Here's a fairly minimal set description of my problem. First I have a functor class that does some relatively complicated processing: class functor : public std::unary_function<double,double> { public: double operator()(double x) const { // do some work here return something; } } For use with the gsl, I have created a wrapper to make this linto something that can be handled by the gsl routines: template<class func> double gslfunc(double x, void* p) { func* f = reinterpret_cast<functor*>(p); return (*f)(p); } I now have the following function that allows me to use gsl routines: template<class func> double myRoutine(func& f) { gsl_function F; F.function = &gslfunc<functor>; F.params = reinterpret_cast<void*>(&f); // call some gsl routines with the gsl_function return something; } I can now use gsl routines on the above functor with no difficulty. What I would like to be able to do is use lambda expressions to make slight modifications to the underlying functor, for example take the following code snippet: functor f; myRoutine(bind(f,_1)+1); However, this dies a horrible death upon compilation complaining that there is no available conversion from the type that is generated by bind(f,_1)+1 to void*. I suspect that there is no way to get a pointer to a lambda'd function and that this is causing my problem. Am I correct? I have seen that the format class actually has some attributes with this value, but I couldn't see any public methods to get them. Is there any way of getting the expected number of arguments? Hi, I have an installer for win32 which installs the boost libraries. I'm trying to link to the serialization libraries, and several copies have been created in the boost/lib folder: libboost_serialization-vc80-mt-1_33_1.lib libboost_serialization-vc80-mt-gd-1_33_1.lib libboost_serialization-vc80-mt-s-1_33_1.lib libboost_serialization-vc80-mt-sgd-1_33_1.lib Which version should be linked to when? [Graph] edge list cache

Hello all, I'm working on implicitly defined graphs using the graph boost library. The out_edges function (for example) generates the list of out edges on the fly and returns a shared_container_iterator. Creating this list takes a non-trivial amount of time and so I'd like to cache the result of out_edges so that future calls don't duplicate. But I'm not sure how to do this and still fit within the "BGL way." My first instinct was to add the cache as a member of the graph. But this means that out_edges has to take a non-const reference so that it can update the graph and this causes problems for filtered_graph and reverse_graph. Right now I'm toying with making my cache global and keyed to the address of the graph but this seems inelegant. Anyone have any suggestions? -krish

Hi all Postings here often comment on the amount of compiler output generated when using Boost libraries. I found the following script quite useful when trying to track down both bad practice and real errors in my own code. It works something like this: $ callfilter -6 make This script filters the compiler output based on the options -0 thru -7. Option -- has no effect and is provided for typing convenience. Options -5 and -6 are typically the most useful. Some comments at the start of the script provide more information. I find g++ -Weffc++ often rather helpful, but its use definitely requires some form of output screening. Hi, I would like to bind to the boost::get<N> function for use by transform iterator. This is the pseudo code if get worked like a simple function. std::vector<tuple<int,int,float> > v(2); v[0] = tuple<int,int,float>(2,2,2.2f); v[1] = tuple<int,int,float>(3,3,3.3f); std::accumulate( boost::make_transform_iterator( v.begin(), boost::lambda::bind(&boost::get<1>,_1)), boost::make_transform_iterator( v.end(), boost::lambda::bind(&boost::get<1>,_1)), 0); I find bind is difficult to use for functions that deduce template arguments from function arguments. I thought if I changed boost::get<1> -> boost::get<1,tuple<int,int,float> > That didn't work either. Digging through tuple.hpp makes my head spin. Is there an easy way to do this. Thanks, Chris

Hi, Visual Studio 2005 gives me warning C4180 ("qualifier applied to function type has no meaning; ignored") when binding member functions that has a templatized type as return type with boost::bind, but I can't see any reason why it should. The above is somewhat awkward, if there is some criteria other than position index that can be used to extract your elements, you may be able to do a lot better. Or you could choose different data structures to start off with, for example if you really have 2 subsets of elements, sub0 and sub1, and you know they're separate, store them in 2 fusion containers, and when you need to work on the whole, use fusion::join to glue them together. Hi, If I have a boost::numeric::ublas::vector<double> v, I can use the STL's sort and boost::lambda. sort(v.begin(), v.end(), _1<_2); How do I do the same with matrix<double>, using, say column 3 as sort key (i.e. I want to reorder the rows in the matrix by their 3rd entry)? sort(m.begin1(), m.end1(), _1[3]<_2[3]); won't do the trick, and I really have a hard time figuring out what does. In case it's not clear what I want, here's an example: [0,0,1,4 0,0,2,3 0,0,3,2 0,0,4,1] => [0,0,4,1 0,0,3,2 0,0,2,3 0,0,1,4] cheers, 'as

How well does Boost support cross-compilation?

I'm dreaming of compiling MinGW, OS X (Intel and PowerPC) and Linux x86 versions of my program in one go, perhaps on Linux. The program uses little other than several Boost libraries. Is this a possible and reliable usage scenario? This doesn't seem like a particularly original idea, so I'm sure others explored it. Are there any how-to's? I couldn't find any.

I have been having some issues trying to get this relatively simple binary memory based serialization to work. I don't think that meta-programming will help check you the values. This can only be the case if the values are available (as const with external linkage) at compile time. If you need the checking pattern to be generated during the compilation than take a look at boost::xpressive. A short introduction: the ML language has a variant data type, tuples, and pattern matching construct. For example type operand = Imm of int | Reg of string type instruction = Insn of string | Pseudo of string Now, we can create tuples, e.g. (Insn "push", Reg "%rbp") is of type operand * instruction (a tuple of two typed elements). In function definitions, it is possible to do pattern matching as (it could be written slightly better in ML, but I want to show the match syntactic construct): let f x = match x with | (Insn "addq", Reg "%rsp") -> (* do something *) | (_, Imm x) -> (* any 1st item; the 2nd must be Imm type, and the x variable is bound to the value carried by the 2nd item *) | (_, Reg "%rsp") -> (* any value for 1st item _except_ Insn "addq" which has already been handled in the first alternative - alternatives are matched in order and first matching is taken *) | _ -> (* default case for anything else *) This is only a simplified example; but even this example would be much more ugly if rewritten with if/else statements, even if tuple tiers were used. Boost provides both the safe variant type and the tuple type. Would it be possible to construct pattern matching with syntax similar to the above in C++ ? [Yes, there are also other problems - incomplete matches: ML just throws an exception in that case; or redundant cases - nothing happens.]

[ref] tying references between objects

Hi all The following kind of code is probably quite common. It involves: * using individual Register objects containing construction parameters to help factory-create new Entity objects * and, in the process, "tying" key object state variables so that each associated Registry object can watch these And yes, I know this breaks encapsulation! I chose C++ references and my code seems quite complicated for what should be a relatively straightforward task. Pointers were rejected because the dereferencing syntax can lead to really obscure numerical expressions (particularly for non-C/C++ programmers). However, boost::ref() seemed to offer a simpler solution and I experimented with this for quite some time to no avail. I also considered using a boost::ptr_vector and 1-tuples. In addition, adding cout statements to ctors and dtors led to more activity than I would have expected. Moreover, there were more dtor calls than ctor calls. Any comments or suggestions gratefully received! Also an explanation of the differences between a "type conversion" operator and an "address-of" operator. Is this simply related to role or is there a distinction? When you use windows forms programs you can't use the standard main entry point with mixed unmanaged code. There is a bug in the initialization of the CRT in VS2005. It seems that the bug is not anymore in VS2008. boost::serialization(1.34.1) Can not link 64-bit example.

Hi, Now I'm trying to use the "serialization" library on 64-bit(x64, Visual C++ 8.0). And faced some troubles with that. First I've converted a Visual Studio 2003 solution (vc7ide) to Visual Studio 2005, and compiled 64-bit static library release/debug. It passed the compilation with lots of warnings. But when I tried build a 64-bit example demo_xml_load.cpp I've got a lots of linker errors. - Is somebody tried the "serialization" library on 64-bit? Thanks, Oleg.

What would happen if boost::shared_ptr is reset to an address in the stack

Hi, The following program runs well in my system. However, if I change 1 to 0, it will terminate at the line with "delete". Does this mean that boost::shared_ptr can tell if the pointer is from the stack or the heap and does different things based on where the pointer is from? [serialization]-- serialize binary data to a memory buffer?

I saw an example where boost serialized a text archive to a strstream for sending via a socket. I would like to do something similar, but for binary data. Is there a way to do the binary serialization to a memory buffer, and then send it elsewhere? It doesnt seem like strstream and boost::archive::binary_oarchive would mix correctly. I have also seen some discussion regarding a binary_iostreams library, but its doesnt look like that exists yet. thanks Rich

Problem using Boost Graph Library - Python Bindings

Hello all, I have just installed the Boost Graph Library - Python Bindings. Everything seemed to be ok, I can read a graph from the example "mst.dot" file and from my own ".dot" files, I can write them back to a file. It's not entirely clear from your description if you really need to have is_arithmetic be true for your fixed_point class or if you just want to have some predicate that is true for both the built-in arithmetic types and your fixed_point class. If the former, then you will likely run afoul of problems, for the reasons previously pointed out. Hopefully it is the latter - in which case you should just define your own predicate with the appropriate logic (true for fixed_point or is_arithmetic types). Chad

Hello, I have some problems with the latest changes to asio, which turn out to be caused by problems with boost::system. The newer versions of boost::asio now use boost::error_code provided by boost::system for error handling. On OS X 10.4 with XCode 2.4.1 comparing two boost::error_code objects e1 & e2 always returns false. I believe this is caused by comparing objects accross threads. But this is just a guess. A problem I noticed on with Apple's version of gcc is that static instance variables behave strange, there seems to be a copy for each variable in each compilation unit that uses them? This may also somehow be the cause for my problems with boost::system. Another problem is that when I receive an error_code object, say e, from asio, trying to print e.message() fails with an access violation. This happens on Windows, Linux, OS X. What am I doing wrong? [filesystem] vacpp errors building 1_34_1 filesystem library on AIX

I've built all the boost libraries on Windows and Red Hat, but there are compiler errors building on AIX using Visual Age (xlC) for the filesystem library. It builds using gcc, but not vacpp, which is the AIX standard compiler. We are using the latest version, V. 8. There is more than one error, but I think they are all similar. I believe that the code envolved is not fully standard compliant. For example, in operations.hpp, there is an error on line 732, col 72; the full error is (I tried to wrap as best I could): The declaration of "end_itr" uses the undefined class "boost::filesystem:: basic_directory_iterator<boost::filesystem::basic_path <std::basic_string<char,std::char_traits<char>,std::allocator<char> >, boost::filesystem::path_traits> >" when the class must be complete. The code is called by line 730, called by 473, called by 689. The problem, I think, is that basic_directory_iterator is not defined until line 822, after all these calls. A coworker created a simple test that reproduced this error, fed it into an online ANSI/ISO C++ Standard test utility by Comeau computing, and it flagged it as an error. Has anyone compiled 1_34_1 using xlC/vacpp? If you need more information, or need the other errors, let me know. -- Marty Fried Left Coast, USA

Greetings. If in "jam_src" I attempt to compile with gcc-4.2.2, the "bjam" executable compiles (using ./build.sh), but "bjam --version" fails on a segmentation fault. I can compile with gcc 3.4.6. Any thoughts? Anyone else seen this behavior? Thanks! -Mike

And you know, there are things like mpl::plus<> for some operator, mpl::if_<> for a control-struct, mpl:insert<>, mpl:erase<>, mpl:clear<> for STL container like operations, etc. Lots of things re-modeled the "unaccustomed template-syntax" - way for types, which are there in C/C++ language definition already for operating on variables and values. So i wonder if it would be a good option to introduce some mpl { ... } in remembrance of asm { ... } This time not for going down to the assembler level, but going up to the meta level. But with the goal to drop the template fashioned syntax for meta programming by a syntax already familiar in C/C++ language without templates (if this is possible - i don't now enough about that). Well, this is just a gut feeling, that there might be a chance this way to more align "standard" programming with "meta" programming, which then might enable to easier catch the the gray area of borderline between compilation and runtime execution and how to shift that back and forth. Hello, I have the MPL book and I've used some metaprogramming before but I'm always at the edge of my understanding of the language when I do it. I have a problem right now which I suspect is trivial but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. This does not seem to be an error in his own code, rather an error in the boost.python code? This is the first time I am using boost, and, as usual, I need to get this program working yesterday. My machine is a recently installed Ubuntu Feisty (hence the need for re-compilation). I am using the latest version of Boost (boost_1_34_1) and python 2.5.1 Any help would be appreciated. [serialization]-- serialize a std::vector<>?

Hello, sorry for the newbie questions... I have some sample serialization code where I serialize a container. if that container is std::list<sometype> it works fine. the same code with a std::vector<sometype> fails to compile. are vectors supported for serialization? I cant find any specific mention in the documentation or via searching. thanks

[ptr_map]const_iterator does not represent value_type

In ptr_map, const_iterator does not represent value_type. Given this map: typedef boost::ptr_map<DWORD, int> BOOSTMAP; BOOSTMAP::value_type equates to: boost::ptr_container_detail::ref_pair<DWORD, int* const> BOOSTMAP::iterator does return this, but const_iterator returns: boost::ptr_container_detail::ref_pair<DWORD, const int* const> which is unlike std::map which represents const value_type for const_iterator. Since this is a different structure, it's incompatible with BOOSTMAP::value_type. The following code works using std::map: typedef std::map<DWORD, int*> STDMAP; int sample = 5; STDMAP sm; sm.insert( STDMAP::value_type(10,&sample) ); STDMAP::iterator sfirst = sm.begin(); STDMAP::const_iterator scfirst = sm.begin(); STDMAP::value_type& svt = *sfirst; const STDMAP::value_type& scvt = *scfirst; But, the same fails on the last line with boost::ptr_map typedef boost::ptr_map<DWORD, int> BOOSTMAP; BOOSTMAP bm; DWORD key = 10; bm.insert( key, new int(5) ); BOOSTMAP::iterator bfirst = bm.begin(); BOOSTMAP::const_iterator bcfirst = bm.begin(); BOOSTMAP::value_type& bvt = *bfirst; const BOOSTMAP::value_type& bcvt = *bcfirst; Also, it is not possible to bind to one of the members BOOSTMAP::value_type. [tools/regression] Directory reorganization

There's some reorganization in progress in the trunk/tools/regression directory. This shouldn't affect most developers or users, since any of our Boost scripts that depend on these directory locations are being updated too. But if you've got any of your own scripts, make files, or IDE projects that depend on these directory locations, you will need to update them accordingly. Build Problem: bjam + boost + python

Hi, I've done a svn check_out of the boost repository. I'm trying to build it with the underlaying options, but can't achieve that goal due to the underlaying error messages.
