boost program options positional arguments in config file?

I've been using program_options quite happily and successfully for a short while now and would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude. Is there a way to extract postional args from config file, though? The headers seem to indicate that it's possible include_positional flag, but I haven't been able to find something workable in the documentation or mailing lists. Thanks, Zak

Problem with shared version of Boost.Regex library

Hi all, I compiled a shared version (DLL) of Boost.Regex on Windows2000 Pro with gcc 3.4.5, mingw 3.13, STLport 5.1.4 and IBM's ICU 3.8. Details are as below: 1. Open file "boost/config/platform/win32.hpp", change the line: #if !defined(__GNUC__) && !defined(BOOST_HAS_DECLSPEC) to: #if (!defined(__GNUC__) || defined(__MINGW32__)) && !defined(BOOST_HAS_DECLSPEC) I did this because mingw (at least with my version) supports both __declspec(dllexport) and __declspec(dllimport), and __GNUC__ is also defined. 2. Open file "boost/regex/user.hpp" and uncomment 2 lines: "#define BOOST_HAS_DLL_RUNTIME 1" and "#define BOOST_REGEX_DYN_LINK 1". 3. Edit file "libs/regex/build/gcc-shared.mak" and then use it to build Boost.Regex from MSYS shell with GNU Make. After the building process completed, I wrote a small program to test the output. It ran nicely but I got the following warning when linking against Boost.Regex: ../../include/boost/regex/pending/static_mutex.hpp:116: warning: 'bool boost::scoped_static_mutex_lock::locked() const' defined locally after being referenced with dllimport linkage It seems my compiler doesn't like to see "inline" and "__declspec(dllimport)" in the same place. So I have some questions: 1. Should I remove "inline" and rebuild Boost.Regex to skip this warning ? 2. Should I continue to use my own shared version of Boost.Regex ? May it result in such thing like undefined behavior, especially in multithread world ? Can anyone give me a hint, please ? Thanks in advance. linking trouble

I am trying to make a package called visual python, but I keep getting this error. I am using fedora 8 and have Linking cvisualmodule.la ... make[1]: *** [cvisualmodule.la] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/brad/Download/visual-4.beta16/src' make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 The key reason I get this error is this line right here... /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lboost_thread I looked online saw that I could try --LDFLAGS-L[path], where path is the path to libboost_thread.so and libboost_thread.a. Those files don't exist on my computer and I have boost-1.34.1-5.fc8 and boost-devel-1.34.1-5.fc8. I did however find /usr/lib/libboost_thread-mt.so, /usr/lib/libboost_thread-mt.so.1.34.1, and /usr/lib/libboost_thread-mt.so.3. Brad Longo

Monitors like Java's Object.wait() / Object.notify() in boost ?

Hello, I am a new Boost user (and especialy boost::thread for a school project), I haven't found in Boost a feature like minotors in java, with the methods Object.wait() / Object.notify() / Object.notifyAll(). I have the problem of having one thread that produces information, and several threads that extract infos when available... but all the reader threads needs to be woken up only when more data is available (with an equivalent to nofityAll()). [serialization] portable binary archive first release

Dear all, I am proud to announce the very first release of our portable_binary_[io]archive which we use here at EOS to move data between different platforms. It really is a conglomerate of pieces that already were there - as is most often the case in oo world - we simply put them together in a way that seemed to make sense. I know a lot of people were interested in portable binary archives, so here you are - give it a try and let me know what you think about it! We rely heavily on boost::serialization and really appreciate the amount of time and knowledge that flew into it. By publishing this small missing piece we hope to contribute our mite to this great library. The work extends the portable binary example which was done by Robert Ramey and uses Beman Dawes' endian library plus the fp_utilities by Johan Rade. You will need to get those two libraries in order to use our classes - look for them at the boost vault (http://www.boost-consulting.com/vault/) in categories 'integer' and 'math - numerics'. Boost serialization: Problem reading strings from binary archive

Hello, I am having a strange problem with std::string as I am trying to read from a binary archive using Boost serialization. I am new to this, and it is possible that I have not understood the usage. In the code below, the string "faultblock" seems to be causing the problem. The code crashes in the ia & tst line which is reading back the archive - the stack indicates that it is trying to read an invalid string. I have tried to minimize the code I need to post, but sorry if this is still too much. I'd appreciate any help with this. I am using Boost 1.34.0 on windows XP. [Date_Time]: efficient use, fuzzy formats and a valgrind error

I today made first (hands on) contact with the Boost.Date_Time library and it really is quite intuitive to use and I'd like to see if it fits our needs. I want to replace some rather heavily used C functions with something Boost.Date_Time based as the old code is rather ugly and unintellegible whereas the Boost lib is tested, well documented and so on. i) As I have mentioned before, one important aspect is efficient parsing of dates. Our old function is configurable through format strings. Who owns facets? * Do I have to unimbue a stream (assuming I had imbued cout)? * Can I avoid constructing the std::string? It would be great if you could point out flaws and inefficiencies (or just best practices in this case) in the above code to me. I'd like to say in advance thanks for looking into this. ii) 'Fuzzy formats' I need to allow the user some degree of freedom (lazyness) when entering dates. It is required that (German dates) 01.10.2007 01102007 011007 (and more) all produce the same date (Oct 1st 2007). Is this possible with Boost.Date_Time's format strings? (I don't think so.) Copy from stream to vector

Hi all, I've started to use boost 1 month ago and I'm findind it very helpful indeed. Congratulations for the good job. I have one question, is it possible to use boost to copy from a stream to a container? If so, how do I? eg. with std copy: copy( istream_iterator<string>(FileSource), istream_iterator<FileSource> (), back_inserter( m_StringVector ) ) I wonder if boost copy would make it simpler, but I was not able to use it. It pops up a static assertion failure :( Any help? Thanks. Ricardo

I have solved my problem by downloading the latest version of Boost from the subversion repository. With this version, i could build the System library and link the Asio Timer examples. link error using boost serialization library

Hi, I am trying to use boost serialization library, but run into link errors that I don't know how to resolve. I created a very simple data structure with a 'string' and 'int' in it. Then I try to serialize it to a stringstream and recover from a stringstream. The compile failed during linking. What is the best way to ensure that one has a positive time_duration? I'm dealing with hundreds of thousands of data points and need to gather the points that are temporally near a given time (based on a duration). For example, find all points in the collection that are within 1 hour of Feb 2, 5:00pm. I used the following code to verify that simply multiplying by -1 would give the desired result, but it would probably be nicer to provide a std::abs overload. boost::posix_time::ptime lhs1(boost::gregorian::date(2007, 2, 1), boost::posix_time::hours(1)); boost::posix_time::ptime rhs1(boost::gregorian::date(2007, 2, 2), boost::posix_time::hours(1)); boost::posix_time::time_duration elapsed1 = lhs1 - rhs1; elapsed1 *= -1; boost::posix_time::ptime lhs2(boost::gregorian::date(2007, 2, 2), boost::posix_time::hours(1)); boost::posix_time::ptime rhs2(boost::gregorian::date(2007, 2, 1), boost::posix_time::hours(1)); boost::posix_time::time_duration elapsed2 = lhs2 - rhs2; assert(elapsed1 == elapsed2); and the actual code is something like (where duration would be 1 hour in this example): boost::posix_time::time_duration elapsed = pt.timestamp - rhs.timestamp; if (elapsed.is_negative()) elapsed *= -1; return elapsed <= duration; I realize that one could also use std::max and std::min, but that seems a bit inefficient, especially since this is a very performance critical area of our application. Hi, My project uses boost 1.34.1 libraries for asio and also includes windows.h (which in turn includes winsock.h). This results in a macro redefinition error for FD_SETSIZE and then goes on to spew a bucketload of related errors. The easiest way to reproduce this is to have a simple main.cpp with just: #include<boost/asio.hpp> #include<windows.h> int main() { return 0; } Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Or what I could try? I've tried defining WIN32_LEAN_AND_MEAN, IPPROTO_V6 in the makefile, but to no avail. Afterwards, however, they point to data-structures with meaningless content. The keys (strings / ints) are serialized / unserialized correctly. I guess its a general problem with serializing shared pointers contained in a std::map as values !? BTW: the structures the shared pointers point to do have a serialization method themselves and I a assume that it is called when serializing the map. My mistake. It is building universal binaries that usually requiring customization of the build. But to build ppc on an intel platform--that was completely unexpected at this late date. Searching the Boost site for the key word "universal binaries" found nothing. Searching for "universal OS X" gave four generic uses of the word "universal" but nothing of help. Anybody have any experience building Boost as a universal library set? If not... It's been over a year since I had to hack a build so I need to refresh my memory. It my well be time to pour another cup of java, take the red pill, and see how deep the rabbiit hole goes.

Thaks for the quick reply. Unfortunately i still can't compile the system library. My default installation doesn't even have a libs\system folder. I have downloaded system-0.2.1.zip from the boost vault and copied the 'system' folder to boost_1_34_1\libs but running bjam --toolset=msvc --with-system results with the same error: wrong library name 'system' in the --with-<library> option. Running bjam in boost\libs\system\build gives a lengthy error message and doesn't seem to build anything. Further assistance would be appreciated. OS X 10.5 Macbook Pro (Intel Dual Core x86) Boost builds and installs fine (except for Unicode Regex) and recognizes the toolset is Darwin. $./configure -n Building Boost.Jam with toolset darwin... tools/jam/src/bin.macosxx86/bjam -n Detecting Python version... 2.5 -n Detecting Python root... /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5 -n Unicode/ICU support for Boost.Regex?... not found. Backing up existing Boost.Build configuration in user-config.jam.4 Generating Boost.Build configuration in user-config.jam... Generating Makefile... and make and install proceeded fine. So I tried the examples on the "Getting Started Page" First one works fine. Hi Ovanes Thanks for your reply. Yes, I understand that do_clone is private. I wonder what Peter Dimov's idea is. I believe the point of this free function would be that you would only need to write it once and use it for any class that provides the do_clone() method. Which I'd love to see in action. Or be proven wrong. [asio] Problems with Boost.System

Hi, I am running into some problems when trying to build a simple Asio program (the Timer2 tutorial) with MSVC 8.0. I have installed Boost using the installer from Boost Consulting and copied the Asio headers to the boost_1_34_1\boost directory. The program compiles (with three warnings about deprecated unsafe functions in asio headers) but linking fails with the error: fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'libboost_system-vc80-mt-sgd-1_34_1.lib' I have tried building Boost.System with the command: bjam --with-system stage according to the instructions found on: http://asio.sourceforge.net/boost_asio_0_3_8/libs/asio/doc/html/boost_asio/… but i get the following error: error: wrong library name 'system' in the --with-<library> option. I have searched the Boost website and mailing list archives but couldn't find any further information on building the System library. Any help in resolving this problem will be greatly appreciated. Hi there, I just pulled the latest reflection code from the sandbox and tried to compile the example. But unfortunately there are compilation errors. For example: c:\boost-sandbox\boost\extension\impl\library_impl.hpp(37) : error C2664: 'LoadLibraryW' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'const char *' to 'LPCWSTR' Is the relection lib in a usable stage? bgl-python installation problem

Hi, I'm having problems installing the python bindings for boost libraries, what I would like to use is boost.graph but from python. Boost is ok (programs and headers) but when trying to run bjam I have this error: [root][mem01][~/progs/bgl-python-0.9]# bjam error: Could not find parent for project at '.' error: Did not find Jamfile or project-root.jam in any parent directory. iterator_facade and gcc-4.3

This no longer works in current gcc 4.3 (previous issue I mentioned was a compiler bug, now fixed): it works out to generating a const lvalue in operator[], which makes gcc-4.3 give "error: type qualifiers ignored on function return type" This is either a bug in boost or a bug in gcc; not being clear on which it really is, I'll file it under boost. -- Benoît

Hi, As you know, with Microsoft VS preprocessor operators you can convert a type passed in to a macro to a string. Compile issue with boost::archive::xml_oarchive

Hi, I am attempting to use boost::serialization to serialize a simple derived class to an XML archive. I have no problem creating a text archive - code compiles and the text archive contains both base class and derived class members. If I switch to the boost::archive::xml_oarchive it no longer compiles. I'm pleased to announce that the Exception library has been accepted into boost. Thanks to all formal and informal reviewers and to Emil Dotchevski for the library! Summary of possible improvements: ================================= Design ------ Nearly all reviewers made suggestions for syntactic improvements. The "tag(value) syntax" (as suggested by John Torjo) for instance provides sufficient syntactic sugar and seems lightweight to implement. Suggested features in this area are (those are implementable on top of the current design - but will keep users from reinventing the wheel if provided by the library): - Support for grouping information, and - support for generating stack traces. I personally still have a bad feeling about 'enable_error_info' - let's just revisit and discuss it on the list before changing boost::throw_exception. The related discussions about clone/rethrow support is still ongoing. Documentation ------------- Best practices for the catch-site should be clarified in the documentation. Same goes for using the same tag multiple types with one exception object. Other comments should be addressed (I won't put much energy into summarizing documentation comments, guessing most of them might have been taken care of, already). Deployment ---------- There was a suggestion (from Pavel Vozenilek) to put #ifdef around the code of boost::exception that could be put into a separate translation unit. There should probably also be a 'build' directory and a Jamfile so there is smooth integration with the Boost build system. Of course, Jamfiles for test/examples should be added. Implementation -------------- Several reviewers noted that the library is rather allocation-heavy. [xpressive] un-used variables

We compile our app with -Wunused-variables on the Mac with gcc 4.0. We get several unused variable warnings due to <boost/xpressive/regex_primitives.hpp>. Is there some facility for quieting these from xpressive itself? We currently are using #pragma unused ( eol, ...) to quiet the list of about 15 unused variables. Thanks, Jeff Flinn

[BGL] property_map not compiling because it's not l-value?

Hi, I'm trying to use the concepts in the Kevin Bacon example in my code and am having trouble with compiling. http://www.boost.org/libs/graph/doc/kevin_bacon.html When I compiled the example by itself, it ran fine. However when I changed it to my data, then it gave me a compile error of "error C2106: '=' : left operand must be l-value" I don't know why this is, other than variable name, I just changed the vertex type from string to index. Nothing that I can see would cause this. boost.python switching from v2.5 to v2.4

Hi all: I have used Boost.Python successfully to wrap around C++ API in python2.5. I must say that boost.python is an amazing library. However, if I want to create the same API for python2.4 do I have to rebuild the boost with python2.4 and then run bjam again, or is there any simple solution than that? The reason for asking this is because changing the Jamrules file did not help much. Thank you for your help. Maulik

[filesystem] Apparent non-compliant code in current operations.hpp, ...

While building 1_34_1 on various platforms we support, I came across some compile errors for the AIX compiler, xlC/vacpp that weren't caught by gcc or MSVC, possibly due to being hidden by a level of indirection. The errors were mostly undefined classes where the template class was fully defined at the time of instantiation. I apologize if my explanation isn't clear or totally correct - I'm not an expert on the C++ standard, and got a lot of the actual explanation from coworkers that know it better than I do. But it's up to me to do the actual reporting and to try to get it to work for us on all the platforms we support. My original post was a few days ago, with the subject "[filesystem] vacpp errors building 1_34_1 filesystem library on AIX". I am because it may look like a vacpp problem, which is an unsupported compiler, but it's not really. It just happens that xlC was the only compiler that caught the error, I think. My original post can also be read at this link: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.user/31028 The problem is that the class basic_directory_iterator is not fully defined until after it is used by remove_all(). There were a few other similar errors which I can provide if someone takes an interest in this. [program options] storing values into a set instead of vector?

Hello all! I would like to allow only unique parameters to be stored: param = X param = Y param = X should result in a collection of {X, Y} Therefore I want my params to be stored in a set instead of vector? Is there any chance to implement/specify it without putting the params into the vector of strings and re-inserting them into a set? Doing it the way: value<string_set>() result in an error. Some other question? As I see "program options" works only with basic_strings<charT>, where it is assumed that the traits class is default. What if I wish to specify my traits class for the basic_string will it work? Many thanks! Ovanes

Hello all, I've been wondering how boost::mutex plays in the static initialization game. I'm toying with a "plugin" system where plugins statically register with a singleton plugin_manager using a helper struct like this: template <typename PluginT> struct register_plugin { register_plugin () { shared_ptr<plugin_base> ptr(new PluginT); plugin_manager::instance().register(ptr); } }; static register_plugin objects, specialized for each plugin type, are constructed in an anonymous namespace to register the plugin at static initialization time, like so: namespace { register_plugin<foo_plugin> rp; } plugin_manager::instance() looks like: { static plugin_manager* s_instance; // s_mutex is a static member { boost::mutex::scoped_lock lock(s_mutex); if (s_instance == 0) { s_instance = new plugin_manager; } } return *s_instance; } So far I've implemented two plugins in this application and everything just works. It seems to me there is a static initialization race between every register_plugin object and plugin_manager::s_mutex. Am I just lucky or is there some magic about mutexes in this regard? [crc] Easy way to get the "correct checksum" constant?

Some CRC algorithms (when using 0xFFFF as an initial value and final XOR) have a nice property that then checking the consistency of a data block that has a CRC checksum appended, the resulting checksum value is a constant. Is there an easy way to extract this constant value from boost::crc directly? Example: We use a CRC like this: typedef boost::crc_optimal<16, 0x1021, 0xFFFF, 0xFFFF, true, true> crc_type; When sending a block of data, we append the generated CRC. The receiver side feeds the complete block incluing the CRC bytes into its generator. When the data block has no errors, the crc.checksum() is always exactly 0x0F47. Currently, I manually calculate that constant by something like this: crc_type crc; crc_type::value_type val(0); crc.process_bytes(&val, sizeof(val)); m_key = crc.checksum(); Is there an easier way to extract this "crc is correct" value? The "p" in the name means that you are using STLport: and that means you must use STLport when you build the regex lib as well. Take a look at the getting started guide for instructions, but you should end up with a "p" in the name once regex has been built against STLport. Hi, John: Thank you very much. Consider the following class hierarchy: A - B - C1 \- B2 - C2 Is the following correct: * when A is an abstract class then (without any data members!) then I do not need to provide serialization support for this class * when A does have data members (and so does C) but B does not add any data and B furthermore is abstract (so the actuall class will be C1..) then no searialization support is needed for B? Hi, I've just recently started using boost::concept_check. It suits my needs very well and works perfectly so far. However, today I've come across something that is missing: The ConceptConcept! What I mean is a meta concept that checks whether a given template is a concept checking class. Hello, If I'm not mistaken, to compile boost with STLport, one must pass -stdlib=stlport (or something like that) to bjam. But it's not mentionned in the "Getiing Started" documentation (Unix or Windows), while STLport itself is mentioned. Also, stdlib is mentioned when I launch bjam with --help, --help-options or --help-internal. Can someone add the documentation of the stdlib flag in "Getting Started", please ? When i build boost library, how can i use "bjam" to control the library naming rules and compiler flags. i use vs2005. when i use regrex library, vc2005 always says that "can't link library boost-regrex-p-1_34_1.lib",but the library name that "bjam" produce is "boost-regrex-1_34_1.lib". The library name i can't remenber clearly,but the difference is character "p". Hello! Does anybody else experience a problem using enable_if templates in Visual C++ Express 2005 SP1? This is really strance, since this should not be considered by compiler as a possible template instantiation. is_const is an enum value containing either true or false.

Mixing Boost thread library and Apache runtime library

Hi, Our current code base uses Apache Runtime Library for handling multithreading code, including threads, concurrency control, etc. We are currently starting to convert to the Boost thread library. During the conversion which might take a while we would like to be able to mix the threads from the APR library with concurrency control objects (mutexes) from the Boost library. Is this ok to do this or will we run into some strange issues? We are currently running the code on Windows and Linux. Please let me know if I can provide any specifics about the APR library to better answer this question. Thank you! Alex

It is definitely possible given the resources required:) This will be great to have an application server and a set of APIs and tools for C++. At the moment we have most of the libraries, one main gap is OO-persistance, probably implemented as an ORM. I use boost.serialization, it's cool, but it is not enough IMHO: Library I dream about would serialize separate objects and fetch them when needed from one archive. And boost.serialization doesn't provide neither ACID transactions nor iterators over the content of the archive. There is also a lack of "JSP" compiler - but it's not that hard to implement. So all is needed is to implement these two things, then take Apache, cgixx and you have J2EE in C++. And when you have all the bricks - you don't actually need a specification or a ready to use standard, because putting it all together is (looks like) a piece of cake. It's a lot of work, but it's not that much as "mammoth effort" :) PS Correct me if my comments on the current state of the free C++ libraries is wrong. I listed the problems for which I tried but didn't find any ready-to-use solution. [boost][date_time] Hi there, I have a question about the boost::posix::time_duration class. It has accessors such as: - hours() - minutes() that return a data type of long. I would have expected it to return a datatype of boost::int64_t (or boost::int32_t) because could there be a risk that the return value would cause an overflow on an 8 bit embedded platform. Given the commitment and resources required. 3) Would this be reinventing the wheel ? I know SUN & Java got there first (the J2EE thing). Hi, I was looking through the Pool code and noticed that it presents inconsistent pointer types to the user ("void *" versus "char *"). For example, if the user wants to implement his/her own user allocator, they have to write it like, e.g. (using "char *" as the pointer type): struct default_user_allocator_new_delete { typedef std::size_t size_type; typedef std::ptrdiff_t difference_type; static char * malloc(const size_type bytes) { return new (std::nothrow) char[bytes]; } static void free(char * const block) { delete [] block; } }; However, other classes return "void *" as their pointer types, e.g. singleton_pool: template <typename Tag, unsigned RequestedSize, typename UserAllocator, typename Mutex, unsigned NextSize> struct singleton_pool { static void * malloc() { pool_type & p = singleton::instance(); details::pool::guard<Mutex> g(p); return p.p.malloc(); } } Is it really important that the types be different? Serialization of C dynamic data

Hi, I'm trying to serialize the following piece of code (a data structure whose object size is dynamically allocated and it should use the correct size/len which has been serialized). typedef struct data { char *payload; size_t len; } data_t; vector<data_t *> v; So I added the corresponding serialize function to the structure definition void serialize(Archive & ar, const unsigned int file_version) { ar & len; for (int i = 0; i < len; i++) ar & payload[i]; } Moreover, I added a default constructor which is invoked by the serialization library whenever the object has to be unserialized data::data() { /* no error checking */ payload = (char *)calloc(1, X); len = X; } Now, of course X is fixed. I'd like to reuse the serialized 'size' (ar & size) as argument to the calloc to be able to create an object with the right size instead of having to approximate (exceeding, of course) its real dimension. Do you have any idea how to get it work the way I'd like to, please? -- if it's possible, of course. Nevertheless to say that with a right X everything works fine. REGEXP - Serializing regexp ?

Hi I'm trying to use the boost-regexp package and I'm facing an issue with this. I'm basically applying a replace algo on a list of strings using a huge list of regular expressions. It seems that the boost-regexp API allows me only to either load all regular expressions in memory (i.e creating the regexp at process start) or load one regexp at a time but re-compile it each time. Is there a way to save to disk the compiled version of the regexp (so that the regexp package would not have to re-create the statemachine) ? If not, what would be the best approach for doing this ? Hello, I'm a new member to the mailing list. BTW, thanks to everyone who contributes to boost. It's a fantastic software. I am having a problem with building an expression object. The line in question reads 'boost::regex expression(pattern, options);', where I'm using the boost::regex::extended option, and the pattern looks like this: "^([0-7]\\..*|8\\.0(\\.[0-3](\\.[0-3])?)?)[^.0-9]*?$". I fired up a ruby interpreter, and it handled the regex fine (using "8.0.0.1 (en-US)" as a positive, and "9.0.0.1 (en-US)" as a negative). Can anybody tell me what is wrong with this regex, or confirm that there may be a bug in the library? thanks, brian

Using date/time to format date strings

Hi all, I'm trying to use the date time library to to do some string formatting but I'm afraid there's something I'm missing. What I'd like to do is feed in a string "05/Aug/2007 11:30" and convert it to an ISO formatted string - could anyone point me in the right direction? I've examined both the documentation and the sample code in io_tutorial.cpp but I'm afraid it hasn't helped - the code below is as far as I've gotten and simply returns the input string unchanged. I'm using boost 1.34.1 with MSVC 2005. Greetings. I downloaded 1.34.1 build from Boost Consulting. It comes with prebuilt libraries for VS 2005. I like it very much as I use Boost.Thread in my projects. But this package comes without prebuild libraries for PocketPC 2003 ARM target. How can I build them? I read about bjam but don't see what arguments I should set. This - bjam --v2 "-sTOOLS=msvc" "-sBUILD=release <windows>pocketpc2003 <charset>wide <architecture>arm4" install doesn't work. Sorry for stupid question.

What should happen with this container is empty and I retrieve an indexed by hash view into it? Hi, I tried a few times to report the following bug to trac but it was always rejected as spam!?? According to http://www.boost.org/libs/test/doc/components/test_tools/custom_predicate_s… there exists a class boost::test_tools::extended_predicate_value. (Or is it a user supplied class?) Nevertheless I didn't found such a class in Boost.test and even trunk contains only predicate_result which is different. This makes predicate support very hard to use for me. Please provide proper documentation for it! I hope this is the right way to run tests in a loop and to condense the output. Jens

serialization: curious un-serializing issue RFI

I have a curious problem that's just sprung up, after changing from using plain-old-pointers to using boost::shared_ptrs internally in my data structures (stl hash_map and map) The problem is that while the XML archive works correctly, both text and binary fail (they all used to work). This is using gcc 4.0.1 on darwin and VC8 on windows, boost version is 1.34.1 The failure occurs while unserializing an archive, specifically when trying to read back a shared_ptr to an already unserialized object. In the archive, it shows the object (pointer) as an object_reference (the same reference id in XML and text). While the XML version reads the pointer back correctly, the text version fails and returns NULL. I have not determined the exact reason why the text version fails (it doesn't throw, just returns NULL). The serialization does not appear to have any problems. Since my actual code is reasonably complicated, and I haven't created a simplified version that demonstrates the problem, I'm not including code now - I'd just like to find out if this sounds familiar to anyone, that is, working under XML but failing under text and binary. It does appear to be shared_ptr specific, too, since everything was working before replacing naked pointers with shared_ptrs.

Hi, I've inherited some complex math code that makes large usage of Matrices based on raw pointer arrays. I need to serialize/deserialize these arrays as is and am looking to use boost::serialization package. My attempt at doing so results in the following errors (mostly about non integral array size). Hi Christian, I assume you need to use either wchar_t or set in Visual C++ the charset not to multi-byte but not implemented. Otherwise you are trying to use pass single-byte strings as multi-byte string params. using ref() with threads

Hello folks, we recently got stuck with one minor inconvenience with boost thread (which we fixed), but somehow we cannot explain why it did not work. But all the TCP/IP related stuff in thread did not work (was sort of stuck). I was under impression that ref() is just a way to pass "reference" to the anything (including functional object), so it will create copy of ref, and not Super_Func class itself. Newbie: Building Boost.Python Libs Nomenclature

I just need a sanity check: I would like to embed a Python interpreter in my C++ application. I am following all the instructions as accurately as I can (http://www.boost.org/more/getting_started/windows.html) When I build the Python library binary (as mentioned in the Boost.Python installation instructions) I do not get any errors. If necessary I can respond with my Boost.Build output - but it's rather lengthy. Anyway, this paragraph in the Boost.Python Embedding tutorial says I'm looking for a library file named "boost_python_debug.lib" which does not exist. Here is the paragraph in question: ' Boost.Python's library comes in two variants. Both are located in Boost's /libs/python/build/bin-stage subdirectory. On Windows, the variants are called boost_python.lib (for release builds) and boost_python_debug.lib (for debugging). If you can't find the libraries, you probably haven't built Boost.Python yet. See Building and Testing on how to do this.' (from: http://www.boost.org/libs/python/doc/tutorial/doc/html/python/embedding.html) But I'm not getting any build errors, in fact I'm building all the different MSVC runtime variants (debug, release, static, dynamic, etc) and they all appear to be built - but they are named different than "boost_python.lib" and are not in the /libs/python/build/bin-stage directory. Hi, 1 My program under Code Blocks makes use of Boost. The arrangement of my files is the following: in the directory of the source files of my program there is the directory "boost" containing the following directories: "filesystem", "config", "iterator","range","detail", "mpl", "preprocessor", "tools" and the file boost-build.jam. 2 The file that makes use of boost in my project contains the following lines: #include <string> using namespace std; #include "boost\filesystem\path.hpp" #include "boost\filesystem\operations.hpp" using namespace boost::filesystem; 3 At build I get the message :"boost/preprocessor/config/config.hpp" no such file or directory and several other similar messages about other files of the same directory and about other files of the "mpl" directory. I have a callback design based around Boost.Signals. The documentation says: http://boost.org/doc/html/signals/tutorial.html#id1627926 "Warning: User-defined function objects and function objects from other libraries (e.g., Boost.Function or Boost.Lambda) do not implement the required interfaces for trackable object detection, and will silently ignore any bound trackable objects. Future versions of the Boost libraries will address this limitation." How could I code Filter to honor the 'trackability' of the passed-in handler? 2. slot_type is not itself callable: mHandler() doesn't work. 2a. I could use boost::function for handler_t instead: typedef boost::function<void()> handler_t; but the documentation promises that this, too, will ignore Filter's trackable base class. 2b. I could make Filter store a signal_t instead of a handler_t. Filter's constructor could call mHandler.connect(handler) instead of initializing mHandler from handler. But that doesn't work because signal_t is noncopyable, and passing a Filter instance to connect() copies it. I'd be willing to make Filter trackable, stipulating that Filter instances must live on the heap: mySignal.connect(new Filter(etc.)); // or boost::bind() of same Then Filter could store signal_t because the Filter object wouldn't be copied. When the Listener object is destroyed, it would automatically disconnect from the Filter's signal_t. But that would leave me with an orphan Filter object with an empty signal_t permanently connected to mySignal. Could Filter be informed when slots are disconnected from its contained signal_t? When the last slot is disconnected, it could 'delete this'. With Filter trackable, that would disconnect it from mySignal, and everyone would be happy. (There's the performance cost of introducing another signal object through which the call must be forwarded, but I hope that will be negligible.) So: is there any way for Filter to intercept control when the last (only) slot disconnects from Filter::mHandler? (Filter stores a subclass of signal_t?) Is there any other way to accomplish what I'm trying to do here? Thanks.

The idea is that I use 'replace', it find some text like in expression and this will be an input for function... then in function something happen and output of the function replace in text the input of the function... Regular expression is "[0-9]" And the function is "add5" int add5(int input){return input+5} And the output of this function replace the number with number+5... And in the end text will be: "Solution: 10 and 9" In C++ with Boost? Hi, I'm testing with BOOST_TYPEOF_LIMIT_SIZE greater than 50 and native typeof disabled. I get a "class template has already been defined" error on "template<class V, class T> struct push_back" whenever BOOST_TYPEOF_LIMIT_SIZE is *not* a multiple of 50. This is because push_back is defined in both "typeof/vector.hpp" and, for example, "typeof/vector50.hpp". My fix is to change the push_back definition in "typeof/vector.hpp" to: # if BOOST_TYPEOF_LIMIT_SIZE < 50 template<class V, class T> struct push_back { typedef V type; }; # endif Can someone please confirm that this is the correct fix? A tiny program demonstrating the problem is listed below. [type_traits] upcoming standard question...

Hello! I am just wondering, that the upcoming standard does not provide the is_rvalue type_trait. At least I did not find it in the mailings. Since there is an is_reference trait and rvalues are going to be added to the standard, don't you think the is_rvalue should be a part of upcoming standard type_traits? Many Thanks, Ovanes

boost::serialization Qestion about versioning.

Hi, As I can see from the documentation the library has only a forward compatibility. 3. Independent versioning for each class definition. That is, when a class definition changed, older files can still be imported to the new version of the class. Is there any way to achieve a backward compatibility? Thanks, Oleg.

Hi I notice boost shared_array compares the pointer address not the pointer themselves. What would be the best way to compare the actual value of boost shared_array. 1.) shared_array<T> a; shared_array<T> b; 1.) return (a.len == b.len && (memcmp(a, b, len) == 0)); or 2.) if (a.len != b.len) return false; for (ptrdiff_t i = 0; i != a.len; ++i) if(a[i] != b[i]) return false; One that works ALL the times.

Building boost::system

Hi, Since the new update of boost::asio, I need to build boost::system. I built it using bjam in the boost/system/build directory, and it built: boost_system_vc80-gd-1_34_1.lib but my compiler needs: libboost_system-vc80-mt-gd-1_34_1.lib I'm not sure what the difference between the boost and libboost version, but I know the mt is multithreaded.... Can anyone advise? Thanks Si
