Hello boost users, I need some advice in using MPL and fusion. Lets take the following case for a typical Factory pattern (full compilable source code is attached): class Base {...}; class Factory {...}; template <typename T> struct Helper {...}; // constructor registers creation function for template parameter Now we have a template defining a family of derived classes: template <typename U, typename V, typename W> class DerivedUVW : public Base {...}; And a helper registration macro: #define HELPER_DERIVED_UVW(U, V, W) \ Helper<DerivedUVW<U, V, W> > BOOST_PP_CAT(h, __LINE__) (#U #V #W); And all possible U V and W classes in the combination game: struct A1 {}; struct A2 {}; // for U struct B1 {}; struct B2 {}; // for V struct C1 {}; struct C2 {}; // for W Now with manual registration its just a matter of patience: // Manual registration: // must type all possible combinations -> ugly HELPER_DERIVED_UVW(A1, B1, C1); HELPER_DERIVED_UVW(A1, B1, C2); // etc... To create the desired object just use Factory::instance().create("A1B1C1")->doInterestingStuff() And now the six million dollar question: Is there a way in which MPL and fusion can automatically do the registration? Here registration means the instantiation of template Helper with all possible combinations of DerivedUVW with elements from lists like: typedef boost::mpl::vector<A1,A2> Ulist; typedef boost::mpl::vector<B1,B2> Vlist; typedef boost::mpl::vector<C1,C2> Wlist; and registered with an appropiate name like "A1B1C1" Of course the objective is to easily add A3, A4, B3, C4, etc... to allow more combinations, without having to manually update all the registration code, ideally just the typelists. And, let's not forget variants DerivedUV or DerivedUVWZ with a different number of template parameters. I'm trying to think how I would do combinations for values in runtime and translate it to the MPL domain. Still no success. Any help, suggestions or comments will be appreciated. PS: the context of this problem is being able to expose a heavily templatized library to a user selecting the combination of template classes at runtime with a text string. I'm sure there's a suitable solution to this problem somewhere out there, or at least some hints to build my own solution...

Regex: Question about greedy/non-greedy precedence

Hello, I'm using boost::regex 1.34.0 and experience behaviour with mixed greedy and non-greedy operators in the same expression which I do not understand. I have either one of the following input strings: user1(a)hostname.com user2 and want to keep only the usernames, so I use the following expression: (.*?)(@.*)? with the format string $1. I would expect that basically the regex machine would first try to satisfy the greedy operator "?", and then fill up the non-greedy "*?" with the remaing part of the input. However, the following does NOT work (the hostname is not removed): std::string output; output = boost::regex_replace(std::string("user1(a)hostname.com"), boost::regex("(.*?)(@.*)?"), std::string("$1"), boost::regex_constants::format_first_only); However, if I omit the "format_first_only", it works as expected. base 64 encoding

Hi, I'm trying to encode base64 data by composing base64_from_binary with transform_width but this doesn't appear to work correctly when the data is not a multiple of 3 long. What is the correct way to handle this - do I have to handle the padding myself by extending the input data and then patching the tail of the result? Thanks Andrew

The simplest workaround would probably be to pad the encoded output to a multiple of 3 by adding 0, 1, or 2 '=' characters as needed. Help to design a thread server for boost::thread_group seems useless

It seems that thread_group doesn't perform any task after the thread termination (see http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.user/5694) and then doesn't manage the memory. SWIG vs Boost.Python vs PyCXX vs Py++

Hi there, After reading a couple of -outdated- references I am even more confused than when I started. I have been using swig for the longest time (not by choice), but I am given the opportunity to rethink this -bad- choice. I had heard lots of good thing about Boost.Python, so I decided to have a look at it. I realized that it is already replaced by another layer of abstraction: PyCXX or Py++ (is this correct so far?). So as of today could someone please let me know what are the main differences in between PyCXX and Py++ ? Our current built system is cmake and I would like to avoid adding a dependencie to bjam. What are the drawback of having a dependencie (link library) to boost (versus swig which does not have any). null_ptr?

Hi, Does boost have some sort of null_ptr class that allows you to do portable NULL comparisons? For example, the following isn't portable: char* foo = 0; if( foo != 0 ) { } But this is portable: char* foo = reinterpret_cast<char*>( 0 ); if( foo != reinterpret_cast<char*>( 0 ) ) { } You could easily create a null_ptr class with a few global template operators to make this easy, so you could do this: char* foo = boost::null_ptr; if( foo != boost::null_ptr ) { } Is there such a thing? Building boost with msvc 9 x64

Hello, i recently upgraded from msvc 8 to 9. Now I have to rebuild all my libraries, including boost. To do so, I am executing bjam --without-mpi --without-python --toolset=msvc-9.0_64 address-model=64 install bjam --without-mpi --without-python --toolset=msvc-9.0_64 address-model=64 clean in the Visual Studio x64 build command promt. I am using an own-built bjam executable using the nightly build code (1.1.08) and the boost files from the current CVS (1.1.08) Unfortunately, once the build starts, a windows message appears, asking me how to open "execution_monitor.obj.rsp". How can I fix this error? -Christoph I am using Windows Vista x64 and --------------------------------- Ihr erstes Fernweh? Wo gibt es den schönsten Strand.

[Serialization] Can I load two object from one input file?

I have trace into the code, I found when the testA11 loading, the "file_signature" is "serialization::archive", but when testB11 loading, the "file_signature" is empty. Why it like this? What should I do? May be there is the same question before I ask, but I don't know what keyword could be search, sorry. Thanks!

Hi all, I'm working on a project, it consists of 2 parts: application & framework. The application uses the interfaces of the framework which based on a OODB. Now, my task is to replace the OODB with a relational database. So, I have to do the serialization of the object by myself. I don't know how to design the DBArchive, since I don't know how to deal with the inheritance relation and reference relation between the objects. The DBAchive is different from the TextArchive, the letter is a stream, but the former's storage unit is a record that consists of the object's data members and the field name in the database table. If the recursive model of the boost serialization can process this case? Could you give me any suggestions? Thanks a lot! sjdf

Problems building 1.34 with Intel toolset on Win32

Hi, I am trying to build 1.34 with Intel compiler (have tried with 9.0 as well as 10.1 - same results). bjam appears to skip building the library linked to debug runtime (libboost*-*gd*.lib), and autolink looks for these libraries when linking projects that use boost. I see the same problem with 9.0 as well. I added the icl.exe path to my user-config.jam, as suggested in an earlierpost on this list. I also got the 1.35 dev version from CVS, and it also has the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My bjam command-line is: bjam --v2 -a toolset=intel-10.1 variant=debug link=static --build-dir=C:\Exp\build-boost --without-graph --without-wave --without-serialization --without-python -sICU_PATH=C:\DevLibraries\icu stage On a related note, bjam seems to ignore compiler flags passed in the command line.i.e., I try to build the release as: .\bjam --v2 -a toolset=intel-10.1 variant=release link=static cxxflags=-QxO --build-dir=C:\Exp\build-boost --without-graph --without-wave --without-serialization --without-python -sICU_PATH=C:\DevLibraries\icu stage but /QxO compiler option is never enabled when compiling. Port QT call to BOOST

Hi, I am looking to port a single call of QT code: connect(m_task, SIGNAL(finished(task *)), this, SLOT(on_finished(task *))); I am not that familiar with QT, SLOTS or SIGNALS, but what I believe this to be doing is binding the SIGNAL function finished() from class "task" to my other "class" so that it will fire on_finished(). boost::thread passing reference of the data object to thread func does not work

I have no idea why the "some_data_t a" did not undergo any change even increment_count() had clearly been called 10 times. I also wish to note that the way I make a member func version of increment_count() is purely for testing and changing it back to a global/static function will not alter the un-designated behaviour I've got. Class C instantiates A and gets a boost::shared_ptr<A> through A::create Class B just need a boost::shared_ptr<A>. 3. [iostreams] making a symmetric_filter flushable

Hi there, First of all thank you to Jonathan Turkanis for the iostreams library - it has been very useful. I am using a filter to calculate a hash on data as it is sent to an ostream, using symmetric_filter. The problem is that even when I flush the filtering_ostream, the extra bytes in the symmetric_filter destination buffer aren't flushed out to the sink until the filtering_ostream goes out of scope (or reset() or pop() is called). I found the following in the FAQ: "Note, however, that there is no guarantee that all data written to a filtering_stream will be forwarded to the final Sink until the stream is closed, unless all the Filters in the underlying chain are Flushable." My questions: 1) How does one make a symmetric_filter Flushable? 2) Is this the best way to do this sort of on-the-fly hash calculation? I've included example code below. I have found online documentation for a new version of the Math Toolkit, dedicated to Statistical Distributions and Functions (the link to the documentation is: http://freespace.virgin.net/boost.regex/toolkit/html/index.html ). Apparently this version was reviewed back in April 2007 (see http://archives.free.net.ph/message/20070411.155456.8e65c9d8.en.html) Unfortunately, these functions are not included in the latest distribution of Boost available online, and are not in the Boost Vault. Hello, I've been scouring the internet and boost.org documentation to do what I thought was a relatively simple task on Windows XP with MSVC 8.0: build and import into python the hello.cpp example in the 1_34_1 distribution. Warts: - The Jamroot file in the tutorial folder lacks the "import python ;" command. - No matter what I tried, bjam.exe, could not find the boost_python-vc80-mt-1_34_1.lib file. I finally gave up and copied it directly into the tutorial directory. - bjam compiled the hello.pyd but no "boost_python.dll" as the documentation for the Hello World example said it would. Has this changed? - Importing this hello.pyd fails even when I am in the same directory as the file fails. Do I need to have the boost_python.dll in the same directory? How do I create it with bjam? Is the tutorial directory broken? my bjam.exe? Any help would be appreciated. [lambda] problem with if_then_else_return

I have a problem with the following statement: return std::accumulate( qrun_.begin(), qrun_.end(), svt, _1 < if_then_else_return( _2 != (acct*)0, bind(&acct::get_avt, _2), (unsigned)-1)); Basically, I want to find the minimal value of get_avt() over all non-null members of qrun_ which is declared as std::vector<acct*>. I get the following compiler error with SunCC 5.9: Error, badbinaryop: The operation "unsigned<const boost::lambda::detail::return_type_deduction_failure< boost::lambda::detail::return_type_2_ifthenelsereturn<1, 1, 1, 0, unsigned, const unsigned>>" is illegal. The get_avt method is declared as: unsigned get_avt() const Removing the const qualifier doesn't help. Replacing (unsigned)-1 with _1 generates the same error, but with "const unsigned" replaced by "unsigned&". Replacing (unsigned)-1 with bare 0 compiles without any error, but does not compute what I want. Any suggestions about what am I doing wrong?

hi mathias, thanks for your response. but i think there is a misapprehension. i want something like <http://www.boost.org/libs/multi_index/doc/tutorial/index.html>. [Serialization] BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_GUID_1 macro issue (SVN Trunk)

Hi, I am in the midst of migrating some projects into VS 2008, and have downloaded and built the boost library from the SVN Trunk (retrieved on 18 December, 2007 @ 4:09 pm) which seems to satisfy support for VS 2008. However, I was having a problem compiling some code that calls the macro BOOST_SHARED_POINTER_EXPORT (the code uses Boost serialization on some shared_ptr objects). I was running into the following error: MyOuterClass.h(11) : error C2371: '`anonymous-namespace'::boost_serialization_guid_initializer___LINE___1' : redefinition; different basic types MyOuterClass.h(10) : see declaration of '`anonymous-namespace'::boost_serialization_guid_initializer___LINE___1' The issue seems to be located in the BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_GUID_1 macro, line 160 in serialization/export.hpp. The following macro is not expanding as desired: #define BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_GUID_1(T, K) \ ... BOOST_PP_CAT(boost_serialization_guid_initializer_, __LINE__ ## _1) \ I believe the author of this line intended that __LINE__ would be replaced with a line number where the macro is implicitly called from, and THEN concatenated with the _1 token. Unfortunately, it seems that the two tokens are concatenated first creating __LINE___1 in the process. I have a trivial workaround: #define EXPAND(x) x #define BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_GUID_1(T, K) \ ... BOOST_PP_CAT(boost_serialization_guid_initializer_, EXPAND(__LINE__) ## _1) \ This allows me to compile without the error (under VS 2008). Please advise if there is a better or more appropriate solution. Also, I wasn't sure whether _1 was a token literal or an mpl (Boost Metaprogramming library) placeholder. I realize that 1.35 is not yet ready for release. So, I'm not expecting everything to work correctly. So far, this is the only issue I've run into. Let me know if you need more information. Folks, I have class some class Circle which is derived from Shape class. I want to get rid from RTTI. Like std::vector<int> v(40); // constructs 40 int objects but instead your giving only std::vector<int>::iterator beg(v.begin()), end(v.end()); // the range 2.) Folks , I feel a lack of understanding what actually track_always trait does. I expect that boost does not allow me to save/load twice object with the same address? Help needed on time date

Hi I'm using Date time library for the first time so no idea how best make use of it. My primary target is to check if the first timestamp and second timestamp entered by the user are in a span of one hour. Format of input string is as follows YYYYDDMM-HH:MM:SS(20071015-17:47:10) Now if the second string is also in the an hour span it should return true otherwise false. In the latest SVN head, the documentation for interprocess and intrusive offo of the main Boost documentation page eventually points to an HTTP metacomm address where no documentation exists rather than to the documentation in the corresponding boost/libs/interprocess/doc/html and boost/libs/intrusive/doc/html where documentation does exist after bjam is used to build it. For MPI in the latest SVN head, the documentation off of the main Boost documentation page points to boost/doc/html/mpi.html but no file exists here even after building the MPI docs with bjam. Instead it should eventually point to boost/libs/mpi/doc/html where docs do exist for MPI after one builds them.

VS2005 threads with clr option not working

hello, I am trying to compile a simple proragm with the thread headers included and the clr option in VS2005 When i include the thread headers and set the to compile with the /clr option the app will not execute and give the error below: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b). Click on OK to terminate the application." this sample program works fine without the clr option, however I am writing a managed c++ app that needs this option on. also I have used the lib installer from http://www.boost-consulting.com/products/free the 1.34.1 installer for vs8.0, I have selected all options and still does not work. I have tried defining BOOST_THREAD_USE_DLL and BOOST_THREAD_USE_LIB, still fails. BOOST_THREAD_USE_LIB error message is the same as if I did not have this define. BOOST_THREAD_USE_DLL error message: "This application has failed to start because boost_threads-vc80-mt-gd-1_34_1.dll was not found. vector slice for other containers

Hi, can I use vector_slice / vector_range from uBLAS for std::vector or std::deque ? Or any other library can do it? I can't use iterator based libs (like boost::range or boost::range + step_iterator) as I want to hold view even after a few push_back & pop_front , as long as no element gets remove from within my view window. If elements gets removed from view window,any behavior is fine for me .. but if the case is not so , I want the range/slice view to hold the proper elements irrespective of iterator invalidation due to push_back/pop_front. Hi to all, This post tries to summarize the review of the new Boost.Unordered library. In general, there were no serious implementation change requests and most reviewers had only documentation issues. Here we go: * * * begin of summary * * * Thosten Ottosen's review: ---------------------- (http://lists.boost.org/Archives/boost/2007/12/131372.php) Thorsten questioned about the convenience of supporting throwing hash or predicates. This started a thread about the exception safety guarantees of STL containers and Daniel explained the thread-safety guarantees of Unordered. Basically, Daniel's implementation uses an smart double-buffering technique to obtain strong safety guarantees (stricter than the requirements of the standard) in some operations. There's an slight size overhead (the container must allocate space for two equality functors and hashers) but according to Daniel, speed should not suffer. Chung Ping Wang's review: ---------------------- (http://lists.boost.org/Archives/boost/2007/12/131372.php) The only complain was the packaging of the library (there was an "unordered" directory at the top). Since the library has been accepted it will be packaged as the rest of Boost libraries so the problem disappears. Hi, I'm currently compiling my code in Visual Studio 2005. Below is the code that utilizes BOOST_PP_COUNTER. Note that the goal here is to increment the counter 1 time each time the CHECK_MATCH_AND_RETURN macro is used. This allows me to make sure that I've got one macro call per enumeration member. Let's also say that we've got an iterator "it" pointing to an element in the container (through what index the iterator has been retrieved is immaterial at this point). And we want to modify "c" member of that element. Is this safe: *const_cast<C **>(&it->c) = <new value of c> ??? I know that one can use "modify" member function, but it seems an overkill to have to create a separate functor just to update a non-key element. Boost in Eclipse CDT..

Hi All, I saw an earlier post that talked about this similar problem, but the only reply did not solve my problem. I have eclipse 3.2.2, cdt 3.1.1.1 I have to use these versions because I am also using the cell SDK 2.1. I am getting the error: expected primary-expression before ')' token expected primary-expression before '>' token The line of code looks like: #include <boost/filesystem/path.hpp> #include <boost/filesystem/operations.hpp> namespace fs = boost::filesystem; fs::path configPath(fs::initial_path<fs::path>()); I have 'boost_filesystem' in my libraries (-l) section in my Linker tab. I have '/usr/include/boost' in my include paths section (-l) in my compiler & debug options. double arithmetic precession and equality

Hi, I was wondering if boost provides any support for testing equality of two doubles. In principle in C/C++ you cannot rely on equality because it uses bitwise comparison of doubles and in arithmetic expressions results may have lost some precession. An example will help: #include <iostream> int main(void) { double start = 3.123; double end = 4.124; double diff = end - start; // == 1.001 ??? if (diff != 1.001) { std::cout << diff << " and " << 1.001 << " are not equal" << std::endl; } } On my machine, this example outputs: 1.001 and 1.001 are not equal I am using a lot of arithmetic expressions on floating-point values and also need to test for equality. Also, at compile-time I do not know the precession so comparing within the range of an epsilon seems impossible. So does boost have anything for this I don't know of? Or any other libraries? I appreciate all work of the author.I have not yet build any program with the library, I just read the documentation.There is one think that do not fit to my use: "typeid information is not included in archives".The reason is "archive portability" and the solution "same sequence by save/load".But what if I do not know the sequence? What can I do then?Think about a CAD program. I do not know what the user will draw, a line, circle, rectangle and so on.And I have to save them in a file, at the load I need to know what type of object do I load.For me the "archive portability" is not so important. Hi, The documentation says I can use syntax like: BOOST_AUTO_TEST_SUITE( test_suite_name ); // Test cases here BOOST_AUTO_TEST_SUITE_END(); I'm getting no errors, but I find that even when using this, testing errors are reported as being in the master test suite. Boost shared pointers, PThreads and void* casts

I haven't been able to find any clear explanation about this, so here it goes: I'm coding a multithreaded program using pthreads. The general behaviour is this: -A function starts. -The function creates a shared pointer "OBJ". -The function creates a Thread, passing "OBJ" as the parameter (having to cast it as void*). -The thread starts, getting a (void*) param which is casted back to "OBJ" (shared pointer type). -The function ends, and therefore its "OBJ" goes out of scope. -The thread" ends, so its "OBJ" goes out of scope too. (of course, the thread could at times end before the function instead) I'm afraid that the shared pointer does not behave well due to those nasty void* casts... maybe trying to delete twice the object. What's the proper way of coding this? Weak pointers maybe? Install: recommended directory for boost-root?

I'm installing Boost on a Mac (OS 10.5.1). I realize that I could put the libraries just about anywhere, but is there a recommended directory for the Boost root? Some possibilities I've considered include /opt/local/lib/Boost, opt/local/var/Boost, /Library/Boost, / local/bin/Boost, /local/share/Boost ... Where do you normally install your "third-party" libraries and why? Does the recommended location depend on platform (i.e. Linux, Win, Mac)? Thanks! Boost.Timer in OSX 10.5

Hi, Since upgrading this computer to OSX 10.5 (from Tiger 10.4), I've had weird boost::timer behaviour - jobs taking 50+ hours report as finishing in ~3000s. It seems similar to the problem here (elapsed_max is the problem, basically): http://lists.boost.org/boost-users/2007/09/30661.php The code in that thread gives elapsed_max() as 4294.97 sec on my system. I guess this is a bug the standard library on 10.5, not a Boost bug, but still - any ideas? Thanks, Tom

Hi, I have the following questions about using boost with embedded compilers / in the embedded area 1. what about embedded c++ compiler support in boost ? I saw on [1] some compilers but my list e.g. is - Metrowerks Codewarrior for PPC (v 8.x unfortunately) but the 9.x seems also to have problems - GreenHills C++ (seems to have the EDG parser, so no problem) - ARM C++ an they are not officially supported. Has anyone tried them or others ? experiences ? AFAIK, boost has some requirements to C++ compilers (especially templates) 2. what parts of boost are you using in your (embedded) area ? What parts would you avoid and what is recommendable ? (e.g. statechart, thread, the whole collection/algorithm things) Any performance/size issues ? Hi Boosters, I have a function with following interface: int gvRender (GVC_t *gvc, graph_t *g, char *format, FILE *out) but I don't want to store the output in temporary file but to compute everything in memory... (but to store the output to same malloced string and pass it to a display function). Boost is so powerful - so can I solve this problem somehow using boost (C++ doesn't doesn't provide tools to simulate file descriptors )? linking problem with Visual Studio 2005

Hi everybody, I'm trying to use boost in a .NET project written in C++ managed. When I build it in Debug version it's everything alright, but when I do it in Release version I've got this error: error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "char __cdecl boost::re_detail::w32_toupper(char,unsigned long)" (?w32_toupper@ re_detail@boost@@$$FYADDK@Z). In particular the error above is generated by the following row: regex_replace(std::string(p1, p2), transformer, replace_string,boost::format_all). So now I'm in a bind because I've completed my application but I cannot distribute it due to the fact that .NET allows to deliver only release version. Can some help me? Cheers

Jamfile to use system boost

Hi, I am new to boost, working through the quickstart example as documented at http://www.boost.org/libs/python/doc/building.html . I have gotten to the point where I can move the test project out of the boot source tree, and run the tests by directing the Jamroot back to the boost source tree. The next step I would like to take is to build the test project using my system's boost (version 1.34.1, installed using gentoo's package manager), rather than the svn checkout. This question has been asked on this list before, but was not resolved: http://www.nabble.com/-python--jam-file-to9942060.html#a9942060 . Is it possible to use boost without the boost source tree? If so, what should I look for so I can point my Jamroot to the right place? As it stands, I am stuck in the same place as the previous poster. If gentoo hasn't installed all of the necessary files, maybe I could improve gentoo's handling of the package. Thank you, Darren

Visual Studio .NET 2008 compiler #defines?

[Please do not mail me a copy of your followup] I'm using boost 1.34.1 with the Boost Consultants installer. I tried compiling some code with Visual Studio 2008 and of course 1.34.1 doesn't recognize the compiler and prints out a lot of "compiler not recognized" messages. The code seems to compile OK, but obviously the compiler isn't recognized. Are there plans to update the #defines to recognize VS.NET 2008 soon, or should I do something to update the headers? (Would this mean I'd have to recompile all the libs? I'm using the precompiled libs at the moment.) Hello everyone! I am wondering about the time_series library. It got accepted a while ago and I thought it will be included in boost 1.35.0. However, I can not find time_series in subversion - its not in the trunk, nor in sandbox or any other suspicious places. Only the quite old version in the sandbox on boost-consulting seems to be available. What happened? Can someone enlighten me, please? The library looks really useful and I am willing to use it in my project. Are there any alternatives by the way which can compete with boost.time_series and are as well written in C++? Hello list, Boost libraries often ship compiled in various different "flavors" (compiled with different runtime-options). First off, is there an official place where this is documented? I didn't find any, besides the header `boost/config/auto_link.hpp'. Based on this header, I tried to document the suffix used by Boost libraries as follows: > A suffix is one or more of the following letters: sgdpn (in that > order). s = static > runtime, d = debug build, g = debug/diagnostic runtime, p = STLPort > build, > n = (unsure) STLPort build without iostreams from STLPort (it looks > like `n' > must always be used along with `p'). Additionally, it can start > with `mt-' to > indicate for multi-thread builds. Is this accurate? What is a `static runtime'? My guess is that `-s' is Windows-specific, because on Windows it's common to see both shared libraries and static libraries using the same naming scheme `libfoo.lib' (because in the shared library case, `libfoo.lib' is not a directly shared library but rather an import library), can anyone confirm that? This entails that for most UNIX-like OSes, the `-s' variant doesn't exist, it's the `libfoo.a' static archive that is used instead, is that correct? But when i m trying to run this from command prompt it throws me following error. So it turns out that I wasn't linking against the thread library. I assumed there wasn't a thread library (all implemented in headers) because when I tried to get it to build by doing 'bjam --with-libraries=regex,serialization,thread', it didn't do anything with thread. I then tried 'bjam --with-thread --with-regex --with-serialization', and that seems to work. BTW, I tried building using a parallel make (-j3), but there were errors in the build process. It appears perhaps there's a bug in the parallel compilation or the jamfile for thread. thanks, brian

Linking problem trying to use mutex, condition

I'm trying to compile a test program using the ReadWriteMutex example at http://paulbridger.net/read_write_lock, and I'm getting about 30 linking errors referring to mutex, lock_error and the like. I'm on an Ubuntu system, using boost 1.33.1. I'm including "boost/thread/mutex.hpp" and "boost/thread/condition.hpp". I can post more details, but was wondering if anybody was familiar with this problem. thanks, brian

Hi there, Trying to upgrade from 1.33.1 to 1.34.1 on Visual Studio 2005, I'm experiencing an infinite loop in the signals code. It happens when named_slot_map constructor calls groups.clear(), which ends up in some standard library iterator cleanup code (_Clean_up_iter_debug). It appears there's a circular link in some pointers to parents. This is happening on a debug build with both Boost and my project compiled with _HAS_ITERATOR_DEBUGGING=0. The problem does not appear on non-debug builds. The signals constructor is running inside the function below, which is called during C++ static initialization: static boost::signal< void( E& ) >& GetHandler( void ) { static boost::signal< void( E& ) > _Handler; return _Handler; } Does anybody have any idea what has changed between 1.33.1 and 1.34.1 that would cause this behaviour change?
