BTW, I've noticed that you're wrapping the A objects into a DataMap class that, oddily enough, replicates the key1, key2 and key3 members. Is there a way within the Boost lib (i.e. something I don't have to write much custom code to use) that I can use to sort the matrix by a value of one of the data members of MyObject? boost::serialization xml_archive usage

Hi, i just recently startet to dip into boost::serialization. In the examples directory, there is demo.cpp, in which text_archive is used. From my understanding of the tutorial ("In addition to text archives, the library includes archive class for native binary data and xml formatted data Interfaces to all archive classes are all identical.") it should be possible to switch from text_archive to xml_archive by just replacing text_[io]archive by xml_[io]archive and include the required header files. [Boost.Thread] Scheduling

Hi there, at the end of this mail is a small program that starts three threads out of a fourth one ("thread4"). thread1, 2 and 3 are not allowed to start execution before a certain condition is met (here: go_ is set to true and the threads are notified of the changed condition). The threads increment a variable. Once this variable has reached a threshold (here: 10), execution is supposed to stop. This is done by calling the interrupt() function on each thread, which in turn catch the corresponding exception and act on it. All this seems to work nicely, except for the fact that the "master thread" (thread4 in this example) does not seem to get any processing time over a long period. Hence thread 1,2 and 3 count to a very high number before the stop condition is met. Here is the output of the program: Starting threads Going to sleep for 2 seconds in startAndStopThreads() Hello world Nr. 0 from thread 1 Hello world Nr. 1 from thread 2 [...] Hello world Nr. 6167 from thread 2 Hello world Nr. 6168 from thread 2 Sending interrupt Received interrupt in thread 3 Received interrupt in thread 1 Received interrupt in thread 2 Done ... Occasionally the counting can go on up to a few hundred thousand. This is on a single-processor machine with OpenSUSE 11/64 bit, g++ 4.3.1 and a recent trunk version of Boost 1.36 . The situation is much better on a four-processor system with the same operating system - the counter typically reaches only a few hundred there, presumably as thread4 gets access to a time slice more quickly (but why isn't it running permanently on a four processor machine - there are only 4 active threads ?). Is there anything that can be done to improve the time slices allocated to thread4 ? I am already calling the yield() function in thread1, 2 and 3. Violating that causes hard to debug stack corruptions. - Make sure that allocation/deallocation is symetric. If you do a new/malloc with one runtime and a delete/free with another you're asking for trouble. Don't forget about the global new/delete too! Basically you have to analyze what passes through DLL APIs. JF

asio udp bad_alloc?

Hi All: I'm trying (somewhat unsuccessfully) to use a udp::socket in my program. My system is running Ubuntu 7.04 and boost 1.35 After a while, the program dies with the following message: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc' The line that causes the problem is: (*m_socket).send_to(boost::asio::buffer(xmlData.m_xmlString), m_remoteEndpoint); I think that the client program isn't keeping up and my send buffer is overflowing. Is there any way to confirm this thought? Could I use something like a select statement to see if this UDP socket is ready for writing? Please note that I set the size of the send buffer to 8192: m_socket->set_option(udp::socket::send_buffer_size(8192)); Thanks for the help and/or suggestions! THANXS amb

I have spent a couple of hours trying to resolve the following error when building our system. We have some code that has been compiling and working with GCC with no issues. However building it with MS VC20005 SP1 creates the following error. Considering the scope of these two libraries, I still wonder which one to use in some cases. For example, let's say I have a set of functions that can only take integers as parameters, what's the correct practice : use enable_if to have SFINAE makes the compiler outputs something like "no such fonction" or have a concept check for Integer and have a concept related error indicating people what happens. Is there any policies or is this a matter of tastes ?

Implementing my own intrusive_weak_ptr was less work overall *for me* than switching to shared_ptr. Moreover, shared_ptr doesn't solve the issue that is most important to me, safe conversion to and from raw pointers. This shows up in a couple of places 1) Self registration. 2) Handle from this. 3) Some other very esoteric places that I haven't the energy to go in to and no one else would find interesting. Yes, there are work arounds for shared_ptr, but why not just solve it up front with intrusive_ptr? If, as the flip side of me, you use shared_ptr everywhere else and this doesn't come up much, sure. But my situation is the other way around. Boost takes the right approach, in that it adapts to the peculiarities of the client, it doesn't force the client to adapt to Boost's peculiarities.

For example:I give boost:regex an expression"[a-z]-[d-f]".I would like the boost take the second "-" as and substracion. Hi! I am using VS2005SP1, compiling debug version with MFC in a static lib. No problem for boost libs to auto-select the correct (static) libraries all the time. Enters Boost.Python which deliberately chooses to ignore my compiler settings and to set BOOST_PYTHON_DYNAMIC_LIB and then later at boost\python\detail\config.hpp, line 128: #ifdef BOOST_PYTHON_DYNAMIC_LIB # define BOOST_DYN_LINK // <---- BOOM! #endif which obviously is properly catched in auto_link.hpp, line 292 Everything works as expected if I define BOOST_PYTHON_STATIC_LIB, but I do not understand why I have to take that extra effort. All other boost libs play together with my the compiler settings ... Am I missing something? Markus

I'm using boost asio to send out multicast hailing messages every 15 seconds from an ActiveX control using boost 1.35.0 and VC9. I had a proof of concept ActiveX working fine, but in my production ActiveX, I'm able to send the first message successfully, but every subsequent message returns a 10009 error. Hi folks! Probably someone with some hints on how to fix this. I may have overlooked portions of the doc ... Status: boost_1_36_beta installed using bjam for vc8/SP1 against python-2.5.2; python test suite shows no failure. Trying to embed boost::python/Python in a Visual Studio 2008 project: I managed to compile some code in debug mode (linking to python25.lib release mode). The embedded python interpreter (using the precompiled version of python-2.5.2) throws an exception even on statements like "a=2", having "error_already_set", but PyErr_Print(); does not show a message, neither in Debugger nor after calling the executable from the command line. This is odd. So it is time for a debug session - which is where true trouble begins: fetch python source code, compile with vc8 in order to create python25_d.lib and friends. Now what I really want is a *debug* executable with *statically* linked python and boost_python, so I tell it to the boost library by defining BOOST_DEBUG_PYTHON and BOOST_PYTHON_STATIC_LIB. Defining BOOST_PYTHON_STATIC_LIB is necessary to have auto linker link to the static boost_python libs (libboost_python-vc80-mt-sgd.lib) [see http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.user/38461/focus=38600] but has a nasty side effect: Now the compiler decides python_25.lib has to be linked to rather than python25_w.lib. OUCH! I digged into all headers (also using find/grep) to figure out why boost::python now thinks that python25.lib has to be linked into the executable, but could not find the autolinker part for python*.lib. The key part is in boost/python/detail/config.hpp, line 68 // backwards compatibility: #ifdef BOOST_PYTHON_STATIC_LIB # define BOOST_PYTHON_STATIC_LINK # elif !defined(BOOST_PYTHON_DYNAMIC_LIB) # define BOOST_PYTHON_DYNAMIC_LIB #endif I feel uncomfortable about the "backwards compatibility" tag in the comment. So there must be some other way to get around this mess. It all comes down to hinder BOOST_PYTHON_DYNAMIC_LIB to be defined. I've just committed Boost.Proto v4 to trunk (http://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/changeset/48079) This version is represents a significant reworking from the version that was reviewed and accepted back in April. Although the code is quite stable now, I have not yet integrated all the feedback about the documentation. It is my intention to bring the docs up to Boost standards in time to get Proto into 1.37. I am leaving the old version of Proto at boost/xpressive/proto for the time being, since some other projects (Xpressive, Spirit2 Qi and Karma) are relying on it. It will be removed at the earliest opportunity. [Serialization] Serialization of a derived template class inheriting from a none template base

Hi, I'm in the process of trying to get boost::any serializable, and it's quite tricky, especially considered my very limited experience with boost::serialize. I googled around and found an old discussion on this very list, and while interesting no resolution seemed to be found which satisfied all the criteria for being commited boost. However, since I'm not as picky with data portability, the solution hinted at in: http://lists.boost.org/boost-users/2005/09/14266.php seems very interesting. The only problem is that I can't see how it would be implemented to solve this problem. It needs to be within the definition of the class to be able for the typename to be in scoop, but since the macro seems to expand to a definition to be placed in the boost namespace I can't seem to get it to play nice. Any solution which lets me automagicaly serialize boost::any which contains serializable types, even if intrusive, would be extremely welcomed.

[multi-array] Performance? Difference from GIL or uBLAS?

Has anybody measured performance of multi-array? I am considering whether or not to use it, but when I googled multi_array I got a very old, but unresolved, discussion about poor performance measurements in experiments with optimized code that uses multi_array. (http://lists.boost.org/boost-users/2003/07/4423.php) Also, after a rough glance through multi_array and uBLAS it looks like GIL, uBLAS, and multi_array seem to repeat very similar concepts (and seem to use different syntax). Isn't that kind of bad? I have been playing with GIL in the past but now I am scratching my head about these other libraries. -- John

A few boost::function questions

Is there any way to get a normal function pointer out of a boost::function (with its state and potential bindings)? I want to have the option of calling existing optimization routines that are not functor aware. And hopefully including Fortran and C functions as well? I imagine that any solution to this would be hacky and potentially slow, but it would be nice to have the option without porting every optimization routine. Also, what is the general consensus on http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cpp/FastDelegate.aspx these days? How much faster is the overhead? From what I read in this link, it is virtually none vs. 20nanoseconds'ish for boost::function. Are there any caveats or reasons not to apply this widely (assuming that I am using only the Intel compiler)? And am I able to hack out a function pointer out of this library? Does using a binding library remove the speed of the fast delegation? Last, I am having a little trouble understanding the "forwarding problem" as a library user. My main use-case is for dynamic programming. I will have a function of 3-4 parameters (an euler equation or bellman iteration). I will bind all but one of the parameters and then run an optimizer over the other one. However, what values are bound will be in a foreach. (i.e. choose a state space, foreach in statespace run optimizer to see policy function choice for each point in the statespace. iterate...) . Is this going to work with these libraries? Is boost::function combined with boost::binding the most semantically correct way to do this? Am I going to run into enormous overhead or the forwarding problem when I do this? Do nested bindings add in linear overhead? Thanks, Jesse

[enable_if] Why any other than lazy?

Boost.EnableIf defines enable_if etc, and goes on to define lazy_enable_if, which the documentation states is for the circumstances and compilers when the non-lazy version would break since the instantiation for which SFINAE should apply is a nested instantiation which is not properly processed by some compilers. What I don't understand is why anyone would wish to use the non-lazy versions, since AFAICS the lazy version will always work. Then the obvious question is why the non-lazy versions exist at all? Dear all, this would be my 3 post on build times and Boost, since we develop a fairly large system (> 3000 classes) and use Boost a lot. Rebuilding the complete system takes about 2 hours on my home pc (DELL P4 2GHz, 512 Mb) and about 1 hour on my pc @ work (DELL G280, P4, ht, 3.0 GHz, 1 Gb memory). We already use precompiled headers and tend to forward declare as much as possible. Using some of the Boost components in headers is just out of the question because of the increased build times: - exposing the Boost.MultiIndex headers in a much used header drammatically increases build times - same argument for <boost/variant.hpp> - including <boost/type_traits.hpp> give also a huge latency However I also notice that Boost.Function does not have an include guard. Boost.Function is used a lot and exposed through a lot of headers in our code (since they often define a callback interface). Adding an include guard myself drops the build time for a test project dramatically if Boost.Function is included recursively: - include guards + pch 0.42 - include guards 0.35 - normally 1.52 Is there a reason that <boost/function.hpp> does not have an include guard? Does it harm when adding one (or using a wrapper around it, i.e. "incboostfunction.h" which has an include guard)? wkr.

This documentation is self-contradictory: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_35_0/libs/preprocessor/doc/ref/add.html "This macro is the most efficient when x is less than or equal to y. However, the efficiency gain is not worth actually comparing the two arguments prior to invocation. In other words, x should be the addend that is most likely to be the largest of the two operands." The first sentence says we want (x <= y); the last sentence says we want (x > y). Which is it? :-) -Isaac

Hello, the following code makes the VC++ compiler (VS 2005) crash, but only when I am trying a release build ! The debug builds work fine. std::sort(l_vec.begin(),l_vec.end(),boost::bind(std::less<int>(),boost::bind(&CLayer::GetPrio,_1),boost::bind(&CLayer::GetPrio,_2))); Where CLayer::GetPrio returns an integer. [date_time] apparently still unfixed problem

Hi there, from what I can see, neither the trunk nor the release branch of the upcoming 1.36 release have applied a fix to an issue in the date_time library, that was raised twice on the Boost mailing lists (once by Lothar Werzinger, once by me) and also submitted via the bug tracker (#2091). It is currently not possible to compile date_time-based programs with gcc 4.3.1 without applying a (slight) modification to a date_time header. I would assume that the problem appears with other gcc 4.3-compilers as well (at least Fedora Core 9 and OpenSUSE 11 use 4.3.x compilers). Lothar suggested an easy fix which, from what I can see, could not have any side-effects. It suffices to change line 161 of the file <Boost-Root>/boost/date_time/tz_db_base.hpp from typedef dst_adjustment_offsets<time_duration_type> dst_adjustment_offsets; to typedef boost::date_time::dst_adjustment_offsets<time_duration_type> dst_adjustment_offsets; This change will affect two occurances of dst_adjustment_offsets in the same function only. Could this still be applied to the release candidate ? It would help a lot! In any case thanks, Ruediger

Shouldn't that _2 be _1? Otherwise, isn't the third argument to the outer bind a binary functor? If so, could that syntax error be the cause of the crash? Hi there, I'm trying to find a way to let a number of threads start execution simultaneously, and in any case not before a certain condition has come true. I would also like to terminate them within a relatively short time frame. I can not use the Boost.Thread barrier class, as I do not know the number of threads in advance (users register consumer-type objects, and I do not know how many there will be). I also believe I do not have to use a condition variable, as the different threads need to synchronize their access to a data ressource anyway, and I can use the same mutex to block them in the beginning. I have thus come up with something like the code quoted below. Are there easier ways to do this with the Boost.Thread library ? One of the problems (which seems to be unrelated to the code below) is that the three threads do not get called equally often. In one run, one thread was called 14564 times, another 1607 times and the third one 8676 times. hi all a few weeks ago i came across multi index and now im using it very intensively in my linux application (using g++) the problem im facing more often is a situation like this: i have a structure using multi index for server's (for example) typedef struct server{ uint32_t ip,port; std::string hostname; }; and i have a groups structure typedef struct servergroup{ std::string groupname; uint32_t groupid; time_t sometimestamp; uint32_t groupstate; // std::vector<server> members; // << could this be a multi_index? }; what i need to do is create a relation between a group and it's members (servers) and thats what im not sure about how to achive using multi_index the reason for the relationship is that i need to create an index for queries like this: In which group is server X? or Which servers has Group X? The only possibility i see is by creating 1 structure which causes much memory overhead and updating is a bit of a problem, cause i would need a loop for updating the state of the group for every member, ... I also thought about using boost bimap, but im pretty unsure how? Hi, I encountered the following problem : a successive call with equal parameters u, v, and g of ============================================================ std::pair<edge_descriptor, bool> add_edge( vertex_descriptor u , vertex_descriptor v , adjacency_list& g ) ============================================================ yields both times "RESULT.second == true". But the documentation states, that only in case it is NOT PRESENT it should be true, which is obviously wrong for the second call. If I use the "edge(u,v,g)" method to check if the edge exists I get the correct result of "edge(u,v,g).second == false" before the first call and "edge(u,v,g).second == true" after the first and before the second call. So the problem is all about the add_edge function and I think it's more a bug than a feature. Because otherwise the bool-flag is obsolete or reports something totally different. boost::function to member function - "changing the instance of the class".

After i define a boost::function using bind to a member function of some signature... Can i change the instance to have as "this" in such function for another of the same type? Maybe pass it as a parameter at call time? Why would i want that? Imagine i have some class A that dispatches calls for a big amount of methods. The requests for such calls come serialized, and the method is selected by its name (string). So there should be a std::map<std::string, boost::function<some_signature> > to be able to make the actual call after i know what the name is without doing a switch or a huge ammount of ifs. So A has that map, and has it populated with member functions of itself. But i may have many instances of A. (actually, one for each of many threads). So having that map in each is a waste of resources. So maybe i could declare the map as static, so that it is shared between all instances of A. But to do that, i would need to be able to tell the function in the map im about to invoke, what its "this" should be at this time. Did i explain myself clearly? Thanks a lot for your time :)

Hi, Has anyone successfully used boost with the "new" apple gcc 4.2? I would like to since gcc42 has openmp, but I cant seem to be able to use boost. I compiled and installed boost with apple gcc 4.2 by directly using bjam with --toolset=darwin-4.2. When I try to use it I get an error (detailed output of gcc below) which hints towards problems with inline assembly. Actually, to get it compiled at all I had to set -fasm-blocks. Am I missing a flag of sorts? Or is it "just" another woe with apple's modified assembler? Hello, I noticed that if I declare an event as deferred in a "parent" state (unintentionally), and define the reaction in some "indirect" inner state, then this reaction has no chance to be called. Is this the correct behavior or a bug? Hello: I posted last week about a project in which I am creating two instances of the same state machine class, with the two instances running in separate boost threads. I have the threading issues resolved, but now I am having some other trouble. The two instances of the state machine class are differentiated by slightly different constructor parameter values, which are then stored in some state machine member variables. The contained states then access these member variables. Unfortunately, at least for the initial state, the state constructor is unable to access these member variables. (This may also be true of states other than the initial state, but I haven't been able to get that far yet.) Hello, I am unable to get the boost:python embedding tutorials to work. [mpi] Any plan for mpi2 IO support ?

Hi, I have a code based on MPI uising MPI2 IO to read/writte its data on disk (all mpi procces perform concurrent read/writte on the same file). Boost::mpi does not seems to include whose functionnalities (parralllel IO, views, async ios, basically the stuff described in http://www.mpi-forum.org/docs/mpi-20-html/node171.htm#Node171 ). Is there a plan to support that in the near future ? I had a looks a boost serialization libraries but they do not seems provide whose functionnalities (or did I missed something ?). Error when using the strstr function, help required

Hi: When using the strstr function I get the following error: error C2440: 'initializing' : cannot convert from 'const char *' to 'char *' What have I do? Can I fix this with a const_cast, if not what is the fix, I'm sure it must be simple! serialization of vectors somehow odd

Hi! I just switched to the new 1.36.0 beta release and was very confused by the new scheme how optimized arrays are handled within archives as I have implemented an HDF5 archive by myself. After a while I found out how to fix it by browsing SVN changesets - is there some documentation about it I overlooked? Well, now I even see that I have to include serialization/vector_135.hpp to avoid this strange item_version tag to appear which distracts my archives. This is fine, but this is a meta-information, wouldn't it be possible to use some BOOST_STRONG_TYPEDEF to inject this item_version variable as some specific meta-type which I can then filter in my archive? Hi! I've compiled and now using Boost 1.35 under XpSp2 VS2008 Regex example from "Getting started" was successfully launched. Hi all, I'm considering using boost::object_pool for my project. Reading the code, I found something that is seemingly suboptimal for my application: destroy in boost::object_pool calls object_pool::free, which calls (eventually) simple_segregated_storage::ordered_free. From the code (and documentation), it seems to me that only simple_segregated_storage::malloc_n uses that ordering. In my application, I don't need malloc_n, so the ordering is redundant. My question is: How can I change the default behavior of object_pool so as to use the simple, unordered O(1) free, which just adds the chunk to the beginning of the list of free chunks? I've (of course) read the documentation, but the only relevant sentences are not very clear: "Memory deallocation may be as simple as adding that chunk to the front of the free list, a O(1) operation. However, more complicated uses of Simple Segregated Storage may require a sorted free list, which makes deallocation O(N)." I.e., since I don't need more complicated uses (I guess that's just malloc_n, please correct me if I'm wrong), I'd like O(1) deallocation. Thank you in advance. Im sorry to bother with this, but im having lots of trouble with this. I was able to serialize and deserialize flawlessly in c++ in the binary archive. But now i need to be able to construct binary payloads from php, and then deserialize them in c++ in the same way. But i have been hex-viewing the binary output of boost::serialization and wasn't able to understand it completely. Is there any guide or general idea to understand such format? I have been attempting to generate a build environment for boost in which two targets are involved: 1) Native GCC (Whatever the host build system is) 2) DENX ELDK 4.1 (PowerPC 4xx / Linux) With the assumption that (1) and (2) are both GCC-based, I have (1) working well enough. However, the information at: http://lists.boost.org/boost-users/2007/01/24400.php Seems stale for 1.35.0 in that GCC_ROOT_DIRECTORY, GCC and GXX are no longer referenced. [asio] using with mdns/dns-sd?

What I want: a (open-source, OS-portable) way to advertise my game on a local LAN, so local players can play with each other easily ("Zeroconf networking"). It looks like MDNS/DNS-SD is the most sensible choice; but it needs (or greatly benefits from) interfacing with whatever the system is running (e.g. Avahi on Linux, and I guess Bonjour on Mac, and I'm not sure quite how people manage to use it on Windows). My current networking is based on Boost.Asio, which I'm pretty happy with as a socket library (yay! finally learning how to use sockets!). Does this MDNS/DNS-SD need support from Boost.Asio, or else what's a good way to go about using it? Maybe to use Bonjour's interface because Avahi apparently implements a compatibility layer for that? (P.S. Although the actually-asynchronous IO was a little confusing. With my Haskell background, I eventually realized that many of the examples were highly obfuscated versions of lambda functions (continuations) defined within other functions, because C++ doesn't yet support such things.) -Isaac

Hi, What would be the shortest way to subtract 2 containers? multi_index_container < // ordered key > cont1, cont2; cont1.insert(a); cont1.insert(b); cont1.insert(c); cont2.insert(b); // here I'd like to do cont1 -= cont2, so that cont1 would contain (a,c) Obviously, the operator -() or -=() is unsupported. So is there a way to do this without an explicit loop? IIUC, std::remove_if() wouldn't work here, because it tries to rearrange the elements... Thank you!

boost::serialization size limit??

Hi, I am using boost::serialization to send and recieve some objects over a socket (as per Asio - Serialization Example). I find that when I make the objects contain very large std::vectors (i.e. KB to MB), I get stream errors when recieving the object. Is there an upper limit in size in the serialization? Or could it be an stl or Asio thing? The type in the object that is causing the trouble is a: std::vector< double >. I haven't tried with other types. regards, campbell.

I am using boost for the first time and not much aware of whets going on. I am including serialization archive hpps and it is including these lines eventually somewhere inside namespace detail{ #if !BOOST_WORKAROUND( __BORLANDC__, BOOST_TESTED_AT( 0x564) ) using namespace boost::detail; #endif I am using Visual Studio and MSVC compiler and this using directive is causing me problems. There is a CRITICAL_SECTION defined in boos::detail which conflicts with standard windows CRITICAL_SECTION. The thing am not able to understand is how is this Workaround works ? If this workaround checks for BORLANDC then shouldn't it just place that code for Borland compiler? Please help. Is there any other macro I can define or undefine that will get rid of this. [Serialization] A few questions about boost::serialization

Hi, I'm considering using boost::serialization but have a few questions which I would love to get answered. 1) In the overview section performance is nowhere to be seen as a goal, which for my use case is very important. If I were to use the binary archive, how well would it perform in comparsion to a hand crafted optimized serialization aproach? I've seen in the examples that strings seems to be used to identify data, won't this create a large overhead for both deserilzation and storage? 2) I saw the thread about the reason for boost::any not being serializable. But I don't really care about portability, so in that case, is it possible to implement a non intrusive serialization aproach to boost::any? Would really appreciate some little snippet for that if that is the case. If that's not possible my last option would naturally be to make an intrusive implementation, I see no obvious aproach here since I can't make a virtual template function, so I'm kind of hoping someone could push me in the right direction if it comes to this. Besides this I can only say that the library have a very slick interface and I really dig the design :) // Sebastian Karlsson

[date_time and others] Boost's cstdint.hpp types in Boost libraries

Hi there, I use the date_time library quite a bit, due to its power and ease of use (quote me on that ;-) . One of the things that make working with it a bit awkward (and I presume the same is true for some other Boost libraries) is that it doesn't use Boost integer types througout the entire library. E.g., the boost::posix_time::hours class expects a "long" , which on most (but probably not all) systems, will be the same as a boost::int32_t (and shouldn't it be an unsigned type ?). This means that, if I really want to adhere to each library's specifications, I have to support three integer type systems in an application: std::size_t for containers, boost::(u)intXX_t and the "traditional" (unsigned) short/int/long types. Instead I'm now just giving the hour/minute/... classes an int32_t . Having a common set of integer types throughout Boost would be high on my wishlist. BGL newbie kamada_kawai_spring_layout never returns

Hi I'm trying to use BGL to build a layout for a graph. I have my own graph representation which is used to feed a boost graph which I intend to use to compute vertices positions. The positions will then be used to update my own graph representation. It works for some graph but for some others kamada_kawai_spring_layout never returns. So I think the code is ok But I Might have missed something when using kamada_kawai_spring_layout. Is it limited to some specific graph topologies ?!!! Some hints or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Andreas: Thank you for your prompt responses. Also, since I neglected to do so in my initial post, thank you for the statechart library itself. I spent a considerable amount of time implementing (and, alas, debugging) a statechart library of my own in C# a few years ago. When another statechart-based project came along, and it was using C++, I was relieved to learn that your library existed. Returning to the subject at hand: The member variable that I want to share is a single boolean flag. It would only be written by "self", and only read by self's twin. There would not be any member variables that required shared read/write access. I would use the provisions of the Boost thread library to ensure that these accesses were thread-safe, as Igor suggested. But these are moot points if the framework makes such access impossible by design. I'm new to boost::variant and I can't seem to use it in a class because I get linker errors. FW: statechart::asynchronous_state_machine and state-local storage

Hello: I have two instances of the same state machine, which are launched as asynchronous_state_machines. I also have some state-local storage in these state machines that I would like to be able to access from outside the state machines. Actually, to be more precise, I want each instance of the state machine to be able to access a single member variable of its twin. The problem is, if I create an asynchronous state machine in the usual way (via fifo_scheduler<>::initiate_processor() and fifo_scheduler<>::operator (), it seems that the actual instance of the state machine is buried in the framework somewhere; I don't have access to a pointer to the state machine itself. Can anyone tell me how I go about getting a reference to the state machine that is instantiated when fifo_scheduler<>::initiate_processor is called? Thank you, Tim Crews GECO, Inc.

Hello, my applications takes two multitoken options via command line. Unfortunately the boost's program options does only allow one multitoken. After the inital multitoken initalizer, any other "initializer" are ingored. test --multitoken_option1 a b c d e f --multitoken_option2 a b c d e <---multitoken_option2 and any other command line options after --multitoken_option are ignored. I use a few lambdas in my application. Simple ones like (_1 + 1) work fine. Updated Libraries: Assign, Foreach, Interprocess, Intrusive, Math, Multi-index Containers, PtrContainer, Spirit, Thread, Xpressive, plus a bunch more.
