Unable to use boost libraries with xcode 3.1

Hi! I am using xcode 3.1 and I am trying to build a 32bit boost test application. I have done this successfully on windows (Header only libraries are working fine in xcode). These are the steps I followed: 1) ./configure --with-libraries=date_time,filesystem,iostreams,program_options,serialization,system,thread 2) sudo make install I dont get any error and the installation says it updated all targets. 3) Next, I create a simple thread application to test: #include <boost/thread/thread.hpp> #include <iostream> void hello() { std::cout <<"Hello world, I'm a thread!"<< std::endl; } int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { boost::thread myThread(&hello); myThread.join(); return 0; } 4) I go to project > edit project settings and add the following two paths in the search path section: /usr/local/lib (for library path) and /usr/local/include/boost-1_37 for header path. BOOST_ROOT is set as /Users/Framebuffer/boost_1_37_0 I have even tried to change it to /usr/local/ but the errors persist I have examined the two folders and the libraries and headers are indeed present there (for eg, libboost_thread-xgcc40-mt-1_37.dylib is in the lib folder) 5) When I try to compile either the debug or release version, I get errors. Hi, I've been struggling for a while trying to get async_read_some() to call the handler I provided, but it never seems to happen. However, the buffer provided does seem to be written with the expected data from the tcp/ip socket I'm using. The other thing worth mentioning is that if I use read_some() instead, I get the expected data. In the documentation for this method (see link below), http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_37_0/doc/html/boost_asio/reference/basic_st… there is the comment "Regardless of whether the asynchronous operation completes immediately or not, the handler will not be invoked from within this function. Invocation of the handler will be performed in a manner equivalent to using boost::asio::io_service::post()." I'm not sure exactly what this means...what is this equivalent manner that is mentioned? I totally agree. How to pass a shared_ptr to a thread.

Hi, I'm new to boost. I'm using it for the shared_ptr implementation. I have a usage question. On Windows, a thread function takes a void* parameter. If I have a shared_ptr to an object, what's the correct way to pass that to a new thread? E.g.: DWORD WINAPI threadproc (LPVOID something) { // how to get a shared_ptr through "something"? ... } void create5threads () { ... shared_ptr p(new Object); // what should "something" be if i want to pass p to the new threads, incrementing its use count? CreateThread(..., &threadproc, (LPVOID)something, ...); CreateThread(..., &threadproc, (LPVOID)something, ...); CreateThread(..., &threadproc, (LPVOID)something, ...); CreateThread(..., &threadproc, (LPVOID)something, ...); CreateThread(..., &threadproc, (LPVOID)something, ...); } Sorry if this is a stupid question, but the only thing I could think of was "(LPVOID)new shared_ptr(p)", but that means each thread must explicitly delete the new shared_ptr and that kind of defeats the purpose! Questions about Program_options

Hi, I'm currently enjoying using Program_options, and I have a few questions/comments about it. Is it necessary to create and use a variable_map for parsing program options? Is there a way to forgo this if I've already used value<T>(T*) to bind the options to other storage locations? What is notify() for, exactly? This is not really described in the documentation. It may be worth mentioning bool_switch somewhere in the documentation. (I dug this up from the header files.) Can I access positional arguments without going through the positional_options_description? My program is "variadic" and takes either 1 or 2 arguments (where the first has a completely different meaning depending on the number of args). I realize I can assign meaningless names in the positional_options_description, like "arg0," "arg1," etc., but I'm just wondering if there's already a way to access the raw positional arguments without going through the positional_options_description boilerplate. Is there a way to specify a *hierarchy* of command-line parameters, such as those found in svn (a two-layer hierarchy), git, etc.? If not, consider this a feature request! In svn, for instance, there are global options, there's the exact command, and then there are sub-options associated with the command. But this is just a straightforward example. Other example: There is a tool that is compiled on Windows and Linux. It does not have argc, argv because command line is entered say in editbox. The tool should parse this line and the algorithm should be the same in all operating systems to have single behavior. In my case the user specifies a command line as an argument to a function in script file. Probably it is safe to allow using split_winmain in UNIX to avoid the hell described in previous message.

I need to get the char or string represent current system's path separator. In ACE , we can get from this constant: ACE_DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR_CHAR. Does Boost has the similar constant to do the same? [boost][serialization] void_upcast is very slow

The original "inline void_upcast" method checks if the pointer to the object is of the right type, by traversing its parents. This is necessary when using multiple inheritance, since in such a case the adress of the pointer to the object can vary depending on which base class it is cast to. While profiling one of my projects I noticed that most of the time was spent in the void_upcast method. I modified the method to return the pointer directly(see below), resulting in a high performance increase. This "solution" is possible if you avoid multiple inheritance all together, which I did. In my particular project I experienced a 75% speed increase implementing this, going from about 10 seconds to 2.5 seconds. Would it be possible to implement some functionality to turn on and off the upcasting for given classes, kind of like the tracking of objects is currently administrated? [Threads] error building 1.37.0 on cygwin with g++ 4.3.2

I tried to build 1.37.0 with g++ 4.3.2 on cygwin. Got the following error. Is there a workaround for this or should I go back to g++ 3.4.4? Regards, F. Robert, Thanks for the quick reply. I was able to turn all the headers off but there is still one number (which seems to be thre string length) that I can not turn off. As someone who was about to try to write something similar out of necessity, let me throw out a few practical considerations and a use case. These are a wish list from a library user that is not a generic library programmer: What I really want is to have a "type" that contains bounds information, rather than for bounds checking itself (which is gravy). And I want to use this for pretty functional programming, and see this as an incredibly useful library and integral to taking C++ to the next level for programming mathematics. I do not see this as primarily an equivalence to units, though I understand that use case. My primary cases for this are: 1. For functors that contain domain/range sets to match the blackboard mathematics I am implementing in code. Including "operators" that map functors to functors (my main case being a derivative operator or a conditional expectation). 2. To use this an optimizer framework. The problem is that you end up having to keep around lists of reasonable bounds on what values the optimizer should be allowed to use. But this information becomes separated from the real "type" of the variable, even though that is where it conceptually belongs. And when you call optimizers you need to have both. Of course, this optimizer/root finder problem is really the same issue as maintaining range/domain for functors. So a few comments on what I would love to be able to do to support this: 1. The closed/open bounds in here is necessary, especially for optimizers where you frequently have asymptotes at the bounds (virtually always in the dynamic programming for economics problems I work with). 2. I would go further than saying that the closed/open bounds is a starting point and that the library should ultimately be designed to accomodate (runtime) unions of intervals and discrete points i.e. [x,x] in intervals. This would be very useful for game theory applications where you could get non-connected sets of equilibrium conditions. Or functions where you can have asymptotes in the middle that are not defined, but it is defined on both sides. Last, would be nice to allow for a discrete set of real values as bounds. If the design of the library could support this (maybe by returning an iterator over the ranges if necessary?) then it could be implemented later. Keep in mind that my need is to access/set the bounds at runtime rather than just boundschecking by writing my own bounds checking predicate. 3. Turning off the bounds-checking at runtime could be useful (though certinaly not through NDEBUG!), but you would NEVER want to turn off the availability of the bounds information at runtime since that is the core usefulness of the library. 4. If it is true in general, then this statement: http://student.agh.edu.pl/~kawulak/constrained_value/constrained_value/rati… makes this library practically useless. I understand the rationale, but since all optimizers take floats or doubles, and 99% of functions map doubles to doubles for me, this is an unreasonable constraint. If the problem here is just for the bounds checking, then I am not worried since I really want type information. 5. Sometimes you want to have compile-time fixed bounds , other times modifiable at runtime. So I like this, but they need to behave the same way. But what I really want to do is change the bounds of the type itself at runtime, not just the bounds on an individual instantiation. See the following to see if I am misundertanding the library: typedef bounded<double> interest_rate; interest_rate r1, r2; change_bounds(r1, .8, .99); Now the interest rate bounds on r2 don't exist, right? This is a big problem for me... It would mean that the bounds information is not kept on the type, but on the instantiation... this has extra data and has completely different semantics from the static bounds case where it really is associated with the type. What I would really want is some kind of static data associated with the type. I understand the difficulty here, but nevertheless this is the main usefulness of the library. I also note that this means the "typedef" approach may be a problem as it is set up since the library would have no way to tell the difference between these types to store static bounds, even though this is exactly what I want.: typedef bounded<double> interest_rate; typedef bounded<double> risk_aversion; interest_rate r; risk_aversion crra ; change_bounds(r, .8. .99); //Storing this statically change_bounds(crra, 1.0, 10.0); //Statically. interest_rate r_guess; //Want the right bounds! Can't exist here? Of course, with static bounds this kind of thing works. Perhaps it is reasonable to throw in some sort of useless trick for the compiler to separate when storing static data to keep semantics with the static bounds the same? I don't know if this is a good approach, but it would be reasonable to ask of library users: typedef bounded<double, "INTEREST RATE"> interest_rate; //In fact, I wouldn't even mind having the "name" available at runtime for pretty_printing... typedef bounded<double, "RISK_AVERSION"> risk_aversion; interest_rate r; risk_aversion crra ; change_bounds(r, .8. .99); //Storing this statically, now the two types are distinct? change_bounds(crra, .5, 10); //Statically. interest_rate r_guess; //Want the right bounds. Naturally, there are other cases where you might want to change the bounds on an instantiation. If both could be supported (and returned through the same bounds function, modified through different ones) that would be nice, but the above use case is far more important to me. 6) Is there any way to get the library to compile: std::max(2, i) instead of using i.value() as mentioned in the tutorial for a constrained i? This really is essential to make the library equivalent to normal operations, but with extra type information. Again, I am willing to forgo ease of use on the bounds checking for this... What I really want is the instantiation to behave EXACTLY the same as an underlying type. So overloading the ++, +, etc. are useful, but I would go further to say that perhaps everything could be done by just going back to the underlying type... with abolutely no overhead since it would make this useless for numeric programming. If I multiply or add these kinds of values, I would want the result to be of the underlying type and don't care about the mechanics of ensuring that the result type is bounded itself, etc. I can construct my own bounded type for the return type if I have to... Thanks for listening. And if people have better ideas of a framework or approach to do this kind of stuff, please tell me. I may be stretching the expectations of this library... -Jesse

[Thread] barrier destruction after wait() results in assertion

Boost 1.37.0, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 x86_64, gcc 4.1: The following simple test establishes a barrier with thread count 2. One of the threads destroys the barrier after returning from wait(). Hello, I have a simple OpenGL program that is using Boost Threads and I had it working fine under Boost 1.34. I have switched to 1.36 for some of the newer mutex locking functionality and everything works fine, but.. I keep getting an invalid memory access error. My program will run fine if i skip past the offending call. Wondering if anyone has any ideas? The offending call happens when the rendering thread is created. Boost.Build newbie

I have read the documentation of boost.build on boost.org and I have a few questions: 1.) I do not understand what's more in boost.build compared to bjam; I see no reference to something else than bjam in boost.build doc. 2.) Is it true that the dependencies must be specified manually in a Jamfile; dependenceis are not automatically found with header files. I understood this from this page of the doc : http://www.boost.org/doc/tools/build/doc/html/bbv2/tutorial/libs.html However, the example is with a library dependency and not with source file dependecies. Today I use the makedepend utility and a bash script to build a valid Makefile. However, it is hard to maintain and I would like to add msvc compiler on windows and it causes me much trouble. Boost.build seems to do that but if I have to manually track the dependencies, I prefer to continue with gcc only. Regards, F. how to work with shared pointers to avoid clumsiness

Hi, I've tried to read boost docs and some forums but still cannot understand how to make things simple and right. 1) I have an object that is dynamically allocated and I want it to delete itself (so I understood I need to use shared_ptr) 2) The object must be deleted not after the last shared_pointer to it will be destroyed, because some external functions will call it later one more time. And then it must be destroyed. 3) Of course, that external functions cannot accept shared_ptrs. 4) So, I need my object to know when all shared_ptrs to it are destroyed. Then it sets some flag (I_CAN_DESTROY_MYSELF_SOON) and when some external code (that holds simple pointer to this object) will call its function, then it will destroy itself. How to solve this in an elegant way? I'm currently do not use shared_ptr, but my implementation is cumbersome. Maybe I need one more shared_ptr inside the object.. I don't know. Thank you.

Could _WIN32 be removed from program_options\parsers.hpp? There is no way in UNIX to parse command line independently from string. To use the library I had to dublicate parsers.hpp and winmain.cpp files localy with _WIN32 removed, which is ugly. Before this I tryed to define _WIN32 before including parsers.hpp and undef after - this affected other boost headers and did not compile. I don't see the reason to have _WIN32 macro there because the code is just an algorithm and complied successfuly in all platforms. The meaning of the algorithm is in the name of the function 'split_winmain(...)'. The use case example: command lines from Windows client machines go to Unix server for validation and logging. Hi, I'm making a program that has a GUI and i was planning on using Asio because of it's SSL support, i thought it was just simple callback structure etc but then i got told that io_service::run() blocks? i understand that would be fine in server applications but in this case the GUI would block. How would any of you use asio in my situation?

Mapped Drives and Boost::Filesystem

Hi, I am trying to use Boost::Filesystem to copy files to and from a mapped network drive e.g. X:\SomeFolder. When trying to do this boost::filesystem does not recognise it as a valid folder. It fails exists and is_directory. I have also tried using system_complete to see if this would generate me a valid path, unfortunately not. I am using WindowsXP and i'm wondering if anyone has run into a similar problem? or if there is a concrete reason why the mapped drive is not recognised as a valid folder. thanks Conrad Mercer --

newbie: Problem compiling IOStreams

Hi, I try to compile boost 1.3.7 on an Vista64 pc. What I do: bjam --toolset=msvc --build-dir=lib64 --build-type=complete address-model=64 stage -sZLIB_INCLUDE=C:/Projekte/3D/opennurbs/zlib -sBZIP2_INCLUDE=C:/Projekte/C++/bzip2-1.0.5 >log.txt But I always get errors for not founding "zlib.h" and "bzlib.h". Attached is the log from compilation. boost 1.34 supports asio or not?

Anybody can tell me Boost 1.34 include asio package or not? My machine has an installed 1.34 version of boost. The existing code compile and link on 1.34 has no problem but cannot link on 1.37. So want to start from 1.34 and then move to 1.37. [iostreams] mapped_file_source and std::ios::in

Hi, I've recently been reworking some filereaders and changed them from std::iostream to boost::iostreams::mapped_file_source. Though the data has been fully loaded the std::getline() did set only the first character of the text and returned false, which caused the usual while loop to exit. When I wanted to ask you for help and made up a small example, in which the filereading - to my surprise - worked fine. The problem has been, that from rewritting from the code from std::iostreams there was an std::ios::in left. So my actual filereading looked like this: io::mapped_file_source file("C://test.txt", std::ios::in); io::stream<io::mapped_file_source> input(file); std::string line; while(std::getline(input, line)) { std::cout << "Line: " << line << std::endl; } After removing the std::ios::in everything worked as expected. All tests have been made using Boost 1.37 and MSVC8. My question is if this is the intended behaviour of mapped_file_source and if so, if that could be pointed out more prominently in the docs, since I think I've virtually read all of them and didn't find anything similiar in there. cheers, Norbert

Extracting BOOST header only libraries

Hi, I would like to extract the header only libraries of BOOST for internal use. Though I would like to build and install complete BOOST, I will have to integrate that into our build system. Due to lack of time, I would just like to pull subset of BOOST that does not require any build (exclude regex, system, filesyste...). -Wundef warnings

When using the -Wundef flag with gcc, I get warnings like the following: error: "BOOST_MSVC" is not defined At least once before this was brought up on the lists: http://lists.boost.org/boost-users/2006/10/22819.php The suggested solution is to disable this warning. [program_options] is a more complicated usage supported?

Hi there, I'm using program_options on 1.36, quite successfully so far with only simple use cases. However, now I have to do something a little more tricky. Essentially, I'd like to parse everything before a certain point and treat everything after that as positional_options. Goal is to have a variable command line that can take arbitary commands, much in the fashion tools such as valgrind and strace would. Consider this: ./mytool --myopt 1 --anotheropt bla ./someapp --appoption 1 So mytool would need to parse it's own options 'myopt' and 'anotheropt' and then be aware of the string './someapp --appoption 1' to eventually fork whatever is there. And to make it a little more interesting some of the options should be optional. Alas, docs don't really get into that so I'm wondering if/how this could be done. This is what I got: po::options_description desc("Allowed options, after that state the desired command"); desc.add_options() ("anotheropt,a", po::value<std::string>(), "some other option") ("myopt,o", po::value<boost::uint16_t>()->default_value(1), "optional value 1") ; po::variables_map vmap; po::store(po::parse_command_line(argc, argv, desc), vmap); po::notify(vmap); // at this point I got my options. po::positional_options_description pd; pd.add("command", -1); po::parsed_options parsed = po::command_line_parser(argc, argv).options(desc).allow_unregistered().run(); std::vector<std::string> command_options = collect_unrecognized(parsed.options, po::include_positional); // here I got command_options filled with the unrecognized options. ...snip... Hi Dear I want use boost::filesystem::wpath for directory operation, It worked fine in VS2005, but I can't compile the same code by code::block + MinGW. The compiler report error below. ./configure: Permission denied (Mac)

Hi! I am trying to install boost 1.37 on Leopard 10.5.2. I have put boost_1_37_0 in my home directory and I have successfully compiled and executed a header only application. I am following the following instructions: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_37_0/more/getting_started/unix-variants.html When I try to run ./configure --help I get a permission denied error. -bash: ./configure: Permission denied When I say sudo: ./configure sudo: ./configure: command not found The configure file is certainly there. I have even tried to make it readable and writable by everyone. Any ideas? About boost.mpi and boost 1.35

Hello! I want to install boost.mpi on my ubuntu. Using the synaptic I have installed boost 1.35, boost-build and bjam to follow the instructions of http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_37_0/doc/html/mpi/getting_started.html#mpi.… They say that I should run "bjam --with-mpi" in the top-level boost directory, but it is not clear for me where is this directory. I try to run this command in every directory where it was something about boost but it didnot work. /usr/include /usr/share/boost-build /usr/share/boost-build/tools The error message that I obtain is: error: no Jamfile in current directory found I have tried to do the same in another computer and in this case I have installed manually boost 1.37 and here it is working. Do you know what is the problem? boost 1.35 supports boost.mpi? Do I need to download boost manually? Thank you very much. [PROTO] Custom functions, scalar terminal and make_expr vs details::as_expr_if

I have a large number of custom unary and bin ary function that I map using unary_expr and binary_expr. The problem is the following : my grammar has integral or floating point scalar terminal. So, when I want to create a binary function that takes any elements of my domain, I'm boudn to do the following : template<class L,class R> typename result_of::make_expr<....>::type my_custom_binary_func( L const& l, R const& r ) { return make_expr( ... ); } Alas, as I already discussed with Eric, nothign prevent me to use my_custom_binary_func over types that aren't in my grammar. To do so, I was told to use SFINAE to prune unwanted element by matching the result type of make_expr on my grammar. However, this proves cumbersome and slow down compile time by *a large factor* when I have a large number of such function (and I have like 50 or 60). So i wandered into proto source code and looked at how proto solves this problem for its binary operator. This solution seems more elegant but as it live sin proto::detail, I don't think I'm intended to use it. So, how can I have a simple and fast creation of custom expression ? The Time Series Library, accepted in August 2007, has not yet been submitted to SVN. The Switch Library, accepted provisionally in January 2008, has not yet been submitted for mini-review and full acceptance. Property Map (Fast-Track) and Graph (Fast-Track) have been removed from the review queue. The author (Andrew Sutton) intends to submit a new version of this work at a later time. A few libraries have been reviewed and accepted into boost, but have not yet appeared in SVN as far as I can tell. Could some light be shed on the status of the following libraries? The review queue has been growing substantially but we have had few volunteers, so manage reviews if possible and if not please make sure to watch the review schedule and participate. Please take a look at the list of libraries in need of managers and check out their descriptions. In general review managers are active boost participants or library contributors. If you can serve as review manager for any of them, email Ron Garcia or John Phillips, "garcia at osl dot iu dot edu" and "phillips at mps dot ohio-state dot edu" respectively. We are also suffering from a lack of reviewers. While we all understand time pressures and the need to complete paying work, the strength of Boost is based on the detailed and informed reviews submitted by you. Problem with MSVS 2008 with gregorian

Hi I have a problem building under studio 2008. It appears that #define max(a,b) ... collides with the member function greg_month::max() and won't compile complaining that not enough arguments are provided. I have stripped the code down test.cpp #include <windows.h> //#undef max #include "boost/date_time/gregorian/gregorian.hpp" void foo() { boost::gregorian::greg_month::max(); } If I put #undef max before including gregorian.h then it compiles. Without I get the errors warning C4003: not enough actual parameters for macro 'max' error C2589: '(' illegal token on right side of '::' error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '::' Has anyone seen this before? Is there a workaround? I have tried this with boost 1.37.0 and it still causes problems. thanks dan

[boost::iostreams] How to get number of bytes written?

Hi All, I'm using boost::iostreams and its filters to compress and decompress data. However I'm not able to retrieve number of bytes really written (number of bytes after a compression). Does anybody know how to do that? I'm currently using following code: coffset if offset to where start with writing of compressed data and after call it shall contain the length of the file. This works good to get length of the compressed block unless block of data is written somewhere in the middle of the file thus end of file is not the same as the last offset where compressed data has been written to. io::file_descriptor file(fd); file.seek(coffset, ios_base::beg); { io::filtering_ostream out; // Push the compression filter (bl->type.push(out);) out.push(file); io::write(out, buf, length); // Destroying the object 'out' causes all filters to // flush. } // Update raw length of the file. // coffset = file.seek(0, ios_base::end); Thank you for any help, Milan Svoboda

[Math] Accuracy test failures on QNX 6.4.0

Some of the accuracy tests fail on QNX 6.4.0 x86 with GCC 4.2.4 and Dinkumware 5. Some tests such as test_carlson have a peak error 10%-40% higher than expected while for example test_ellint_1 has huge errors. I'm not sure how to proceed. I'd appreciate of someone could take a look at the trunk regression test results (runner NA-QNX640-qcc). -- Regards Niklas Angare

Trouble with asio using lib pion and boost.function

Hi there, I'm not actually sure this is a boost problem but I'll give it a try and ask for your opinion. Boost version is 1.36 I have a daemon here realising a web interface using pion and asio. Pion is also using asio. On Linux everything runs fine and I have my web interface, but using the same code on windows / vs 2005 I get the weirdest errors such as " Unhandled exception at 0x1004e55d in myapp.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0xcdcdcdd1." [dataflow]Component Library

Is there already or are there plans for components to be shared. I know this is a little outside the scope, but it does seem to be closely related. For example if I need an RGB to YUV component, it is likely that it already exists, and if not, it is likely that someone will need it after me.

How to make custom property map compatible with bgl_named_params?

program_options: Allowing unknown options in config files

Hi, I'm trying to use the Program Options library to parse command line arguments and config files. I can do this with moderate success. I am currently stuck on a solution to the problem of unrecognized options that are present in a config file. It seems that parse_config_file() does not have an obvious way to not abort reading a config file once it finds something that isn't declared in the options description. Any help on how to get around this (or just a kind of "hey you missed this bit of the manual" kind of pointer) would be very welcome. Thanks, Kevin

I see you have three nice options here, 1. Return a shared_ptr. 2. Return a reference and throw exception for invalid indexes. 3. Return an optional. If it has already been done I appologize. They seem very similar to me. Is it just a matter of style? It seems like dataflow lends itself better to dealing with blocks/frames of data than the iostreams library. I would appreciate any clarification though.

Exception when constructing empty list in shared memory (boost::interprocess::list)

Hello all (Hi Ion) Here's a small piece of code that causes an exception to be thrown (when it shouldn't). The environment is MSVC8 (VS2005SP1) with Boost 1.37. The code is an adaption of one of the samples in the interprocess documentation. The samples creates a vector of ClassWithList in shared memory. Then it creates an instance of ClassWithList and push_back()'s it onto the vector. >From what I can gather, the List member (which is a list<>) is constructed in shared memory, and deep within, it calls class segment_manager_base<MemoryAlgorithm>::allocate_many(size, 0). The MemoryAlgorithm is rb_tree_best_fit<..>. allocate_many (imo correctly) returns NULL for a 0-element allocation, which causes the exception to be thrown. Replacing the member variable type "list<>" with a "vector<>" makes everything work nicely. (allocate_many() is not used in that case). In the case of Windows, using DevPartner, it detects the file openssl_init.hpp on line 84. In the case of Linux, still report valgrind reachable 48 bytes in 3 blocks. Hi, I would like to know what is the meaning of the 3 numbers on the Boost version X.Y.Z. When X changes, i.e. when we could have a Boost version 2.0.0 Which number means a complete rewriten? Hello, I'm upgrading project which was originally developed using Borland C++ Builder 5. I need to do some parsing, so I thought I'd use Boost Regex. However, building regex with Borland C++ 5.5 (and 5.5.1) is an issue. I have successfully built the bjam tool, however when I attempt to build boost I get the following errors: "libs/math/build/../src/tr1/cbrt.cpp", line 11.39: 1540-0403 (S) "cbrt(double)" is already defined. "libs/math/build/../src/tr1/copysign.cpp", line 13.39: 1540-0403 (S) "copysign(double, double)" is already defined. It looks like the TR1 implementation that comes with xlC v9 is clashing with the implementation in boost. Is there a way to tell the bjam that the compiler supports TR1? I did not see such an option in the bjam help output. Hi all, I am currently completly lost with boost::preprocessor. I am trying to automatically generate a switch ... case structure with this lib and I cannot figure how I can do what I want. Here is the problem. I have a class templated over 2 parameters (in reality, more ...). At run time, I need to choose a specific instanciation for a user given values. [Proto] POD expression can't be used in std::vector

I have a expression who use BOOST_PROTO_EXTEND to be used as a POD type and I have a class inheriting from this expression to build a terminal class. Hello. I am trying to write a simple server, and I am using an asynchronous acceptor to get clients: acceptor.async_accept(crtclient->getSocket(), boost::bind(&Server::gotClient, this, boost::asio::placeholders::error)); As soon as this is executed, my Server::gotClient gets called with ec.message()="An invalid argument was supplied." Apparently the problem is that I am supplying an invalid socket with crtClient->getSocket(), but I can't understand how can this be. crtClient is a boost::shared_ptr<Client>. class Client { ... public: Client (boost::asio::io_service &ioserv, Server &server) : socket_(ioserv), ... {} ... boost::asio::ip::tcp::socket &getSocket () { return socket_; } ... private: boost::asio::ip::tcp::socket socket_; ... }; What could be wrong? Am I constructing socket incorrectly with socket_(ioserv)? Because if I construct it with socket_(ioserv, boost::asio::ip::tcp::v4()), I get the error "Already open" in ec.message(), rather than "An invalid argument was supplied".

I have a question about the requirements of the MultiPassInputIterator concept as used in the Boost Graph Library. Does the ++first_iter == ++second_iter requirement hold across calls to out_edges(vertex, g)? Or put another way, does out_edges always have to return an iterator with same ordering of returned edges? The difference is between: graph_traits<graph>::out_edge_iterator i = out_edges(vertex, g); graph_traits<graph>::out_edge_iterator j = i; ++i == ++j; // clearly required, but sufficient? and graph_traits<graph>::out_edge_iterator i = out_edges(vertex, g); graph_traits<graph>::out_edge_iterator j = out_edges(vertex, g); ++i == ++j; // also required? Hello all, I've got what I suspect is a relatively unique problem that's resulting in a segfault whenever I try to construct a boost::regex. Boost.Test with a static library

Hello everyone, after prying for any hints in the documentation and reading frustrating mails in the archives for a while now, I get the feeling that this is a very confusing topic. My aim is to use a static library of boost.test because I need to compile it a lot and the waiting time when using the header is just frustrating. So I added to the "Jamfile.v2" in "libs/test/build" under "requirements" the following line: <define>BOOST_TEST_ALTERNATIVE_INIT_API=1 Then I used boost.build and apart from a few warnings like: ./boost/test/detail/config.hpp:85:1: warning: "BOOST_TEST_ALTERNATIVE_INIT_API" redefined <command-line>: warning: this is the location of the previous definition everything seemed alright. So I'm assuming I now have a static library with this macro defined so it should use the alternative initialiser. I also tried using the BOOST_TEST_MAIN and took out the BOOST_TEST_NO_LIB. Nothing made a change to the compiler error. Can anyone help? Boost.Statechart and Simulink

I was wondering if there were any known issues with compiling using Matlab's mex compiler (which in turn uses and links with gcc) and using Boost.Statechart. When I implemented my statechart, I tested it using a separate main() file and it works 100%. When I compile using mex into a Matlab MEX file, I seem to lose the functionality of the event triggers. I've tried several things to figure out what is happening, but all I can ascertain is that if I use the iterators state_begin() and state_end() to access all internal states, the loop never executes. I tried to dereference state_begin(), but got a segfault. My initial approach was to use the state_downcast<>(), but this didn't work in SImulink either. My final suspicion was that it had something to do with the extern "C" business, but admittedly, I don't understand the effects of this statement other than how the symbol appears in the library (i.e. avoiding mangling). I get this same behavior on OS X 10.5 w/ gcc 4.0.1 as well as on Linux x86_64 with gcc 4.2.4. If anyone wants to have my Simulink model to test, I could send that as well.
