I think you need to bind to the multicast group, not the interface, in linux(as I discovered this week, it is the opposite in windows.) Hi, When I compile my program that uses synchronous ssl::stream methods read_some and write_some, the compiler complains about ambigious binds. I believe this is a bug in the boost.asio library. [asio] Problem with async_read/async_read_some not reacting to incoming data

Hei, We're rewriting a client with boost asio but have run into some problems when stresstesting the client. The client is fetching textual and graphics from a server with one connection that is open at all time. When the client is getting large amounts of graphics data it will after awhile suddenly stop receiving data, and eventually it will hit our timeouts and the last call sent is an async_read/async_read_some. We are keeping the server well-fed with requests so there should be … [View More]graphics forthcoming without pause. The problem has been seen on win32, linux and darwin when testing on a gigabit net fetching raw 1080i graphics (4M for each field), and is most frequent on darwin. This is naturally an absolute show-stopper for us. So we are a bit loss what is going wrong and why async_read/async_read_some stops reacting in the middle of the fetch-queue, despite wireshark showing that the data is incoming. When using compression on the data the problem is harder to reproduce, which might suggest a race-condition somewhere. But our code is just using a single thread for io_service and all async-communication is triggered from this io-thread which has a work-object to keep the io_service spinning. We're also making sure there is at most one async_read and one async_write in effect at a time, roughly similar to the chat_client sample. Has anyone seen something similar or have any input on how best to figure out what goes wrong? Are there invariants that says you cannot read and write at the same time? Some symptoms are the same in each test. When we get the last image from the socket the buffersize is zero afterwards, and the next async_read request is to transfer_at_least(1). The async_read never calls the handler for completion of this byte, so Nagle would have kicked in. It is also fairly hard to strip down to a small example using a mock server. I have included some stripped down code below in case that might be helpful spotting something that we cant see. This seems to me like it should work. Yet the check() call resolves, without error, to the first one...which should cause an error and trigger SFINAE. Can anyone help me figure out what gives? Hi, I want (need) to use boost libs as dll with a static run-time library. In this case auto_link.hpp gives me an error "Mixing a dll boost library with a static runtime is a really bad idea...". Why is it a bad idea? I don't think that it's a good idea but requirements in our project demand static-runtime linkage for all modules and they don't want to use regex as static library cause of it's size. Hi, I've been using B.MI for a few days, and until now it's worked great for me. I've included below in Exhibit A a simplified (and a bit obfuscated, sorry) version of what I've been using (a proxy, indexed by name and type, and a method returning all instances of a given type). Filling in a list of all entries matching a given type (in exhibit A) works great. But now I was trying to return a custom (non-standard) iterator, where the client gets a pointer to a abstract base iterator (allows … [View More]to hide the B.MI stuff in the concrete derived iterator), wrapped in an auto_ptr. The private concrete iterator internally stores the B.MI iterator from the index I'm interested in (exhibit B). This compiles (vs2005 sp1 on winXP 32), but it crashes at runtime on the call to boost::tie, during iterator assignment apparently. (call stack in exhibit C). So at this point I have no clue what's going on, and I would appreciate some help. The level of template complexity is more than stretching my abilities I'm afraid, just reading the type names makes my end spin ;) We're going to try it using GCC on Linux to see if it might be a compiler issue, and possibly try vs2008 as well, but if anyone knows if taking copies of the iterators is allowed (I know the index themselves shouldn't be copied, and we don't), and if yes why it's failing in this particular case, I'd appreciate. Hi All! I'm having a problem passing strings into a boost tokenizer. I have been able to get the code to work but I don't think I should have had to do what I did. I downloaded the 1.38 build zip file and unzipped it. I then downloaded the latest bjam and unzipped that. I then used bjam to build boost, as follows: bjam --build-dir=c:\users\myuser\boost-build --toolset=msvc stage It all built successfully, but when I referenced libboost-thread-vc90-mt-gd-1_38_0.lib, I got a linker error where it is looking for libboost-regex-vc80-mt-gd-1_38_0.lib. I successfully used Boost 1.33.1 with VS 2005. Now I have the task of upgrading our software to VS 2008 ASAP and in so doing, I upgraded our Boost to 1.38.0. Apparently, Boost's Filesystem got revamped in 1.34.0 and the contents of exception.hpp got moved to path.hpp and into Interprocess (!) library's errors.hpp. We cannot call the error() routine anymore as it's no longer a member of filesystem_error. We are seeing a deadlock when making use of the interprocess_semaphore. In our case we have two running threads where the first thread is stuck waiting at a timed_wait() call while the second thread is stuck at a post() call. Also, a symptom we are seeing is that the lock value is set to 1 before both threads try to acquire the lock -- we think this is why the threads get stuck in the lock calls. How to suppress vcvarsall.bat call?

Hello When compiling Boost 1.38.0 with this command, bjam 3.1.17 insists on calling vcvarsall.bat before executing the actual build commands. bjam -q -sNO_COMPRESSION=1 --build-type=complete --abbreviate-paths --toolset=msvc-8.0 architecture=x86 address-model=32 However my environment already includes all necessary settings to execute cl, link,... So I would like to skip the call to vcvarsall.bat. Is this possible using a bjam command line argument? Regards, Peter.

Hi, I am looking for a memory mapped file based allocator that does not map the whole file into memory. The size may be huge and I would not want to map all the contents into process memory. Since my read and write access are sequential, I would like the mapping to happen on demand (based on access violation trying to read an unmapped region of memory). After reading the referece docs I got the impression that the only difference between io_service::post and deadline_timer::async_wait is the fact that the former triggers execution immediately (after the caller function returns?) while the latter waits until timer expires before execution of the function object. Is this really the only difference or is there any other issue to be considered? Markus

MPL design question

I have a class that is getting a huge number of template parameters (mostly a bunch of size_t used for vector sizes). They have a natural organization into groups, but almost all of them have a default as 0. How do you suggest that I design the template parameter for this? Is there any way to use some kind of associative container so I could look these up by "name" and default to 0 if they aren't there? I can't see how to use mpl::map to do this kind of stuff.
