Hi all, I want to create a managed_shared_memory in exactly the size I needed. Therefore I do something like this: size = sizeof( common_managed_shared_memory ); size += sizeof( MyClassInSharedMem ); managed_shared_memory segment(create_only, "name", size ); MyClassInSharedMem allocates itself some memory by segment->allocate(). I added this also to the size, but get a boost::interprocess::bad_alloc exception on allocating this additional memory. Are there some magic bytes I forgot to add? Many thanks in advance Kai

hi I am using like this where RunningThreads_ is vector containing boost thread object pointer(handler).I am using interrupt() for the interruption of thread interruption_point() catching that interruption then joining.everytime its crashing in join() for me but for others who have the same configuration its working fine all of us has windos 8. Some strange boost headers errors

Hi guys, i'm a boost newbie. I've got to include boost libraries in the include path of a VisualStudio 2012 project. When i try to compile i have all these errors. Every errors is related to missing headers ( boost ones and even standard Win ones ) and to synthax errors depending on missing headers i guess. Do someone have any idea on what's wrong here? (The number 17 is what boost::detail::lcast_get_precision(double*) chooses.) Without the precision call the contents of the string called result start off like this: 0 1.41 2.82 4.23 5.64 7.05 8.46 9.87 11.28 12.69 With precision set to 17 they start off like this: 0 1.4099999999999999 2.8199999999999998 4.2299999999999995 5.6399999999999997 7.0499999999999998 8.4599999999999991 9.8699999999999992 11.279999999999999 12.69 This happens for both Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2013. Then the next difference is that Visual Studio 2013 spends a lot longer handling all the extra 9s. Changing the program so that the double is converted to a string using std::stringstream without a precision call and then back to double using lexical_cast takes about 3 seconds for both Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2013. It is the combination of having all the extra 9s to parse and using Visual Studio 2013 that makes the test using lexical_cast to go both ways slow. Both Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2013 do the conversion by calling std::num_get<char,std::istreambuf_iterator<char,std::char_traits<char> > >::do_get() which then calls a function called _Stodx() which is implemented in xstod.c. This function is very different for the two versions. In Visual Studio 2010 it's a relatively thin wrapper around the C function strtod(). In Visual Studio 2013 _Stodx() has got a completely new implementation that's generated by #including xxstod.h with some macros defined. The original C function strtod() is much faster than the new _Stodx() when there are lots of 9s at the end of the strings being parsed. I guess only someone from Microsoft or Dinkumware could comment on why _Stodx() was reimplemented. But the other thing is that by setting precision to 17 lexical_cast is bloating the string representations of the doubles with lots of 9s in both Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2013. Setting precision to 15 instead prevents this, and makes the original test run faster even with Visual Studio 2013 (about 4 seconds rather than 10). Regards, David

Hi, I am wondering whether it would be possible to achieve anisotropic buffering (distances in neg x, pos x, neg y, pos y can have different values) of a polygon using the buffer function with custom-implemented distance strategy. [msm] Stuck in pseudo exit

Hi all, I have got a sub state machine (called Calibrate) which is exited via a pseudo exit on an event called Ev_Exit. The event is triggered on the return of a synchronous D-Bus call. So far everything works fine. Now I wanted to use an async D-Bus call and trigger the event in the finished-handler of the asynchronous D-Bus call. problems building

Hi list, I'm trying to build Boost for the first time in a while, and getting unexpected errors. I have a git checkout of the 'master' branch, but I've also tried with the 'boost-1.57.0' tag and had the same problem. [Units] Heterogeneous unit for pressure per time

Hi, I asked about this in StackOverflow<http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27519186/boost-heterogeneous-unit-bar-pe…> but didn't get any answers so I thought I'd try here as well. I need to create a unit which represents pressure per time, specifically Bar per Minute. homogeneous system can only be composed of linearly independent base units. In my case, I'm trying to mix bars (which in turn "contain" seconds as the time element) with minutes. This sounds problematic to me. But on the other hand, since I don't include mass and length base units in my system it seems to me that the base is independent after all. In any case, I searched online for an example of creating such a heterogeneous unit but didn't find anything comprehensible. Also, I read in the Boost documentation that a heterogeneous unit doesn't preserve information about how it was created. Does this mean I won't be able to, for instance, multiply BarPerMinuteRoC by Minute and get Bar back? Thanks a lot! Hi, I've written some preprocessor directives to generate functions for a class. With Boost 1.55 everything works fine with gcc and clang. I want to build the Boost libs without ICU support in Regex, but have been unable to prevent it from being linked in. I've run the following commands on a freshly extracted distribution of 1.57: ./bootstrap.sh --without-icu --prefix=/home/rob/workspace/deps/boost/1.57.0/linux/x64/ ./b2 install The bootstrap stage output includes this, which seems to indicate it's behaving correctly: Unicode/ICU support for Boost.Regex?... disabled. The resulting project-config.jam makes no mention of ICU. The build log includes: - has_icu builds : yes - icu : yes The shared library dependencies for the resulting libboost_regex.so.1.57.0 then include: libicuuc.so.50 => /lib64/libicuuc.so.50 (0x00007f74e5e3b000) libicui18n.so.50 => /lib64/libicui18n.so.50 (0x00007f74e5a3b000) libicudata.so.50 => /lib64/libicudata.so.50 (0x00007f74e4467000) I know the docs for Boost.Regex specify the bootstrap argument as --disable-icu, however this is rejected as invalid, unlike the argument I provide. Why does read_xml call fail if my property tree contains char16_t?

Hi I have a property tree which has strings of char16_t as both key and value datatypes. When I try to call read_xml() to load an xml file into this tree it fails. The same code however works with wchar_t. Seems like its failing on parse_bom() function. Signals2 benchmark

Hi all, New to this list, so I hope I'm at the right place, and not asking too much of you guys. Please inform me if either of those is true! ;-) I have been working on a little toy project to implement a template-based Signal/Slot library and now that I have a usable end-product, I want to test it against boost::signals2 to get an idea of how well it performs. Therefore my first question is whether boost::signals2 is generally considered a high performance library. Second, I'm a little reluctant to build a benchmark suite myself, because I want to be fair to both myself and the other party. I don't know the signals2 library at all, let alone what its virtues and shortcomings are. Some tips on what to test exactly would therefore be great, although I'm afraid this request might qualify for "asking too much". Initial tests show that my own library can be up to 10 times faster than the boost-implementation, which makes me even more suspicious that I might not be testing the right things (but at the same time prematurely proud). I’m currently on Boost 1.56 so this might have been fixed by now, but in a simple test Boost.Coroutine fails to properly model the InputIterator concept, because *it++ does not conform to the operational semantics { T tmp = *it; ++it; return tmp; } required by the standard. Strange boost::threads behaviour

Hi to everyone, first of all thanks to all the people who writes and manteins this wondefrul collection of libraries ;-) While analyzing a resource exaustion problem on a production machine, (Windows) I found out astrange behaviour of boost::threads regarding event object. The problem is that after a certain number of iterations it semms that the thread lib allocates an EventHandle which is never freed. I managed to reproduce in some ways the behaviour, but I'm a bit clueless about its reason. To be honest, the amount of handles "leaked" by the test code is quite less than the amount I found on production server, but test code is also quite simpler. Now some info: 1) OS: Win 2033 , Win 2008 2) I tested it with both 1.46.1 and 1.57.0, compiled using stlport using VS2005 3) if you want I can attach the sample code with a but if info on how to reproduce the behaviour thanks in advance L. Hi all : I got confused in Doc of boost :: futures and I can't got the point of sort of terms. The represents in Overvies of Futures like " Instances can be freely copied and assigned, and boost::shared_future<R>::get() returns a non const reference so that multiple calls to boost::shared_future<R>::get() are safe." no doubt that a const reference .... are safe. a non const reference could be changed by external stimuli. isn't ? meta state machine, process_event need to copy given event

Hello Christophe, I'm a boost msm first time user and I'm attempting to pass an event to my msm that cannot be copied. This event contains a /unique_ptr/ and my goal is to eventually steal it and store it under my msm. However, even with no deferred events, events are /copied/ to an internal queue, in /boost::msm::back::state_machine::do_pre_msg_queue_helper/. I just wanted to know if there was any chance /process_event/ could be overloaded and accept rvalue-ref or if by design, it's absolutely mandatory to copy those events. Performance optimization in Boost using std::vector<>

Hello everybody, I have a question related to performance optimization using Boost. I found this link http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_41_0/doc/html/mpi/performance.html <http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_41_0/doc/html/mpi/performance.html> and trying to figure out which curve (on the graph in the link) represents the communication of std::vector<int> and std::vector<double>? Is communication using std::vector<int> and std::vector<double> optimized (is_mpi_datatype) or not? So I use "boost_mpi" and "boost_serialization" libraries. I include the header "#include <boost/serialization/vector.hpp>" in my code. Then I send directly std::vector<int> and std::vector<double> using "world.send(...) " and world.recv(...)" calls. I fill the vector with some values (for example I fill ten values) and I get the same ten values on other side of processor boundary. This thing works but I want to improve communication performance. I found out in this link http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_57_0/doc/html/mpi/tutorial.html under section "User-defined data types" that "Fixed data types can be optimized for transmission using the is_mpi_datatype type trait. ". Also I studied the information on http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_57_0/doc/html/mpi/tutorial.html#mpi.perform…. Also this link http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_46_1/libs/serialization/doc/wrappers.html#a… shows that std::vector<> are optimized for serialization. I am now confused that sending std::vector<> like this is good for performance optimization or not? What other better methods are available? Min cut between two vertices, undirected graph

Hi, The Stoer Wagner implementation only takes as input a complete graph, and then it computes the min cut with the parity map indicating which cut set the vertex belongs to. I need something for computing the minimum cut between two arbitrary vertices given as input for an undirected graph. Edmonds Karps works just for a directed graph. Hello all, I used CMake's ExternalProject_Add to download and build boost in my project. The URL I used is ' http://sourceforge.net/projects/boost/files/boost/1.55.0/boost_1_55_0.zip/d…' and it works. However I got an error several days ago like: CMake Error: Problem with archive_read_open_file(): Unrecognized archive format It seems that what I download by CMake becomes 'HTML document, ASCII text' rather than 'Zip archive data, at least v2.0 to extract'. boost iOS8 failure

First of all, I know that calls for help are not appropriate to the list, so let me disclaim by saying that I am not asking for help, simply reporting an issue. I am attempting to compile a C++ library (that uses boost) for iOS8 distribution. The library compiles fine on OSX (and Linux and Windows) but will not compile for iOS8. I get dozens of compiler complaints regarding boost headers that all involve some sort of 'Semantic Issue'. For example, in boost's hash.hpp, I get a 'No matching function for call to 'has_value' error on these lines (439-442): | BOOST_HASH_SPECIALIZE_REF(std::string) #if !defined(BOOST_NO_STD_WSTRING) BOOST_HASH_SPECIALIZE_REF(std::wstring) #endif | In this case I was able to skirt the issue by adding code to define the function hash_value for std::string and std::wstring: inline std::size_t hash_value( std::string const &v) { return hash_range(v.begin(), v.end()); } inline std::size_t hash_value( std::wstring const &v) { return hash_range(v.begin(), v.end()); } I am probably going to go through all such failures of clang to interpret the boost code correctly for iOS compilation and modify the source just so I can get this going. This is a major pain because there are dozens of these, many of which are far less straightforward to remedy. Besides I don't necessarily want a custom version of boost that ships with my library. I have the build settings in my iOS project (I'm using XCode) exactly the same as they are in the OSX project. I don't understand why the compiler behaves differently for these two targets. Problems/crash update a Spirit grammar from Boost 1.47 to 1.57

Updating Boost from 1.47 to 1.57 the code no longer compiles. It boils down to Both these includes are included (at various places) and these 2 lines compiled in 1.47 but no longer under 1.57. #include <boost/spirit/home/qi.hpp> #include <boost/spirit/home/phoenix.hpp> Changing #include <boost/spirit/home/phoenix.hpp> to #include <boost/phoenix.hpp> the code does compile, but causes crashes while parsing. (I was not able yet to narrow that down.) Is the correct way of porting a 1.47 boost spirit grammar to 1.57, to replace the old phoenix V2 header to #include <boost/phoenix.hpp> ? (Are there known issues? Or is there a "porting howto"?) Or is it still possible to use Spirit with Phoenix V2? Last year's GSoC furthered the continuing success of the Boost GSoC programme with the first ever Boost funded extension to a GSoC project (that being Boost.Hana by Louis Dionne mentored by Joel Falcou, congrats to both of them on passing an exceptionally tough selection process), and over $50,000 of Google funding brought to Boost in 2014. We also sent three representatives to last year's mentor summit, including one student whose entire expenses the Boost Steering Committee very generously covered. [iostreams] How to utilize zlib setDictionary method

I have a use-case that requires highly efficient bandwidth utilization over a narrow WAN connection, where communication is message-oriented. I have successfully used boost to gzip, zlib, and bzip2 my messages, and ran some numbers (bzip2 is best so far). However, in researching and profiling zlib's native API, I found I could improve efficiently by an additional 15% over bzip2 by using zlib's SetDictionary methods for deflate and inflate. How would I go about extending boost:iostream's zlib_compressor and zlib_decompressor classes to utilized a predefined/static dictionary? Or, is it best just to use zlib's API directly, and bypass boost for this specialized zlib compression case? -Rick

boost variant + boost serialization unused type

Using boost::variant with boost::serialization gives me a warning about unused type in the boost::serialization namespace: D:/Boost/boost/serialization/variant.hpp:69:75: warning: typedef 'types' locally defined but not used [-Wunused-local-typedefs] typedef typename boost::variant<BOOST_VARIANT_ENUM_PARAMS(T)>::types types; I looked up boost::ignore_unused, which says it's for unused types also, but everything I've tried for using in my code (following the definition of my variant) results in a syntax error or other bug claim. How should I use ignore_unused in this case?

Hello Boost guys, when I switched from Boost 1.55 to 1.57 there was a change in the formation of floats and doubles for xml archives. The output file has the line: <m_accuracy>2.99999999999999990e-002</m_accuracy> In Boost 1.55 it was much better human-readable: 0.03. Is this behaviour (this change) intended? [System] Link issues using BOOST_ERROR_CODE_HEADER_ONLY

Hello, We're in the process of upgrading from Boost 1.49 to Boost 1.56. As part of this upgrade, we've noticed the linkage requirements for using the "system" library are much more strict in 1.56. We are getting linker errors like the following across dozens of our libraries: boost/system/error_code.hpp: undefined reference to `boost::system::generic_category()' boost/system/error_code.hpp: undefined reference to `boost::system::system_category()' We decided to fix these by defining the macro BOOST_ERROR_CODE_HEADER_ONLY according to this link: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_56_0/libs/system/doc/reference.html#Header- error_code However, when building Boost itself with this macro defined, we're encountering several problems: 1) Some Boost libraries (chrono, filesystem, random) that use the "system" library no longer link, as if they are still expecting the library to be present. Note that some libraries, like thread, that use "system", link fine without the shared library being present. 2) We get multiple definitions of "boost::system::throws" Any thoughts on how to resolve these?
