building boost with a specific msvc runtime

I'm trying to get a consistent VC++ runtime for distribution, but I cannot find anything getting boost/bjam to cooperate. I have successfully compiled libcurl and UnitTest++ with the method in this link. http://tedwvc.wordpress.com/2009/08/10/avoiding-problems-with-vc2005-sp1-se… The idea being that you include a header in each file and then it will only have that one runtime dependency. b2 has options for setting cxxflags, though they do not seem to honor my /FI compile option to use the header and force the correct runtime. I assume that they are using something else. I suppose boost doesn't use the msvc flags. How should I accomplish this?

Hello all, I was looking if Boost would support basic statistics calculated from a container of values: - Boost.Accumulators supports these statistics but only in an incremental way. This is nice, but now we want exact values since the containers are small (i.e. less than 100 elements) - Boost.Math: support only for distributions Did I overlook something or is this just not supported?

[geometry] getting overlay_invalid_input_exception thrown from union operation

I am seeing a overlay_invalid_input_exception thrown from has_self_intersections when calling the union() operation. Does indicate an internal error, or have I not conditioned my input properly? My test is, taking the TIGER 2010 counties file for Alaska, and repeatedly calling union() on the polygons. There may be some issues that I can think of: 1) Island chains are represented as one big multi-ring polygon in the source shape file. When I convert to boost polygon, I set the first ring as the outer, and all others as inners. 2) Aleutians cross the 180-meridian. I am, however, taking steps to force all latitudes into the negative range, but that logic may need to be checked.

[PBGL] Bug? problem removing self loop in graph parallel

Hello, I have a problem removing edges a graph in pbgl. There are concretely self loops. I think it could be a bug in the library, because for the monoprocessor library it works. I use remove_edge_if to delete the self-loops. The bgl code works ok, but the pbgl code does not. The problem occurs looking the in_egdes of the vertex 8. It detects that it have a in_edge from 8, but when looking for the out_edges of 8 it does not appears as expected. Maybe it is a misconfiguration, but i don't think so. I attached the monoprocessor code and the multiprocessor one if someone wants to look at them. Please, could someone help me? Adding indexes + serialization for MultiIndex

I haven't actually happened upon this problem yet but I just want to know if I know how to deal with it for the future. My question is: how does the serialization work (or not work) if we add or remove indexes from the type? [Geometry] please help; using buffer() extensions

(sorry another post; someone told me to put [library name] in [] in subject... learning something new every day :) Something of a repost, but I've learned a bit more on the path to being truly confused. It appears that boost\geometry\extensions\algorithms\buffer\buffer_inserter.hpp contains some specializations for buffering other shape types? But I'm out of my depth here... is there an example? What do I need to do in order to buffer: a point? A linestring? A vector of polygons? A heterogeneous collections of shapes? Is this generalization of buffer also going to work as a "deflate" for polygons? If someone can tell me "include these headers, use these algorithms", it will help a lot! Thanks John

I ran into a compiler idiosyncrasy, and my usual approach is to use the macros and mechanisms that Boost does in the same situation. But I can't find what I'm looking for in the Boost.Config documentation. So what does Boost do here? I found that the VS2010 compiler automatically defines a static const member that has been initialized inline in the declaration, and thus supplying a (required!) definition without the initializer at namespace or file scope will give a linker error if the class declaration is in a header that appears in more than one translation unit. At least one other compiler does in fact require the bare definition to link properly, and doesn't generate it automatically as an enhancement. So I need to make these definitions conditional based on the platform (and perhaps the exact compiler version? That's why I like to use the existing config knowledge base!) I see that Boost has BOOST_STATIC_CONSTANT but that is for compilers that don't have the in-class initialization at all. So if Boost is using such constructs, how does it deal with the linker idiosyncrasy?

Hello, I'm building Boost 1.53.0 on FreeBSD using GCC. I wish to provide the ICU back-end to Boost.Locale using the static implementation only. This is the command line I used to configure and build ICU 49.1.2: runConfigureICU FreeBSD --prefix=/3rdParty/icu4c/release --bindir=/3rdParty/icu4c/release/bin64 --sbindir=/3rdParty/icu4c/release/sbin64 --libdir=/3rdParty/icu4c/release/lib64 --enable-static=yes --enable-shared=no --with-library-bits=64 CPPFLAGS=-DU_TIMEZONE=0 The DU_TIMEZONE flag is a workaround for ICU on FreeBSD for that particular version. For this discussion it may safely be ignored. The ICU build results as follows: /3rdParty/icu4c/release |_ bin64 |_ include |_ lib64 |_ sbin64 |_ share As intended, the shared (*.so) libraries are not built. Only static (*.a) libraries are present in lib64: libsicudata.a, libsicui18n.a, libsicuio.a, etc... Hi Christophe, I will check the thing with the cstor. FYI: my library that uses the boost.msm-based state machine mechanism shall be released as shared library. It is used to realize Remote Procedure Calls. So my library consists of one Master state machine (which consists of 5 submachines and together 21 states) and one Slave state machine (which consists of 4 submachines and 19 states). The user application linking against my library has the possibility to choose if the slave state machine or the master state machine part shall be used. Now the problem could be, that I use a boost::variant type to store the 44 different application event types. This variant type I pass to the process_event method of each state machine (master and slave) although the slave state machine doesn't support the same event types like the master and vice-versa. This produces unnecessary template invocations and memory allocation. So the solution could be, to split my single shared library into two shared libraries: one for the master and one for the slave logic and each of it has a reduced boost::variant type( just with the event types of the concrete state machine). Or I keep the solution with the single shared library and I split the single boost::variant type into two different ones: one for the master and one for the slave state machine. And each boost::variant type will just be forwarded to the appropriate process_event method of the corresponding state machine. Doing so, will also prevent unnecessary template invocations for each event type on the corresponding state machine. Maybe this will also reduce the memory consumption... What is your opinion about this two putative solutions? Try to provide one and see if that helps. I don't think you have to change it completely. Probably replacing a bunch of events by a single one containing an id as attribute, then checking it in a guard to see what event you really posted would probably be enough. Unable to build 1.53.0 Ubuntu Linux 10.04

Hello, I am running GCC 4.4.3 (default?) distributed with Ubuntu Linux 10.04 LTS. I would like to build the latest Boost to keep up with the language and library standards, because we'll need those on a project we're working on (obviously), but it seems that we'll need to upgrade the GCC tool chain in order to do this: plus it us necessary even helpful to have access to lambda functors, expressions, etc, access Boost Phoenix (for Spirit2), and so on. I've read how it's possible to upgrade the GCC tool chain, but it worries me for obvious reasons. Also, building is one thing, the front end tool chain. We'll be cross compiling to ArchLinux running on ARM. I've done some reading about this issue and it seems that this is more of a back end concern. In other words, as long as the thing builds, compiles and links with whatever tool chain, language standard, compiler, etc, the cross compile should go well. Specifically, I believe we're going with CodeBench, but if there are other cross compilers available, that would be helpful to know as well. Any wisdom approaching an issue like this? However, the value is not what I expected when accessing the attribute of the state given as argument to the action. (It seems to be the default-parameter.) If I access the state directly (by name) and retrieve the value from it, it is set correctly as expected. Could it be that an action gets its arguments as copies? If so, I guess, the attributes of the copied arguments should be copied, too. This is the case for events. The attributes of an event given to the action seems to be set correctly. But the attributes of a state seem to be default-initialized. Hello, In the code below, the last function, "GetFunctionThatReturnsRefX_2", does not compile. It is attempting to use boost::bind to produce a boost::function that takes a pointer to an object and returns one of the object's member variables by reference. If it is possible, would you modify it so that it does compile? Note 1: No problem when returning a copy as in "GetFunctionThatReturnsCopyX_2" Note 2: I employ a workaround in "GetFunctionThatReturnsRefX_1" that uses a helper "facade" function. I'm hoping to avoid this. Similarly I'm hoping to not have to add member function TCObject::GetX. Invoked with "g++ -c test.cpp" using gcc 4.6.3. Can boost help me organize/parse lots of binary data?

I am receiving a "live" stream of binary data that represents the states of various objects. Sort of like this: Car Speed (m/s): float32 Temperature (deg): uint16 ... My real packets have hundreds of items in them. I will be decoding many of these "packets" and doing various things with them like printing their values to console, etc. My plan is just to make classes: class Car { public: void Decode(istream&); private: float speed; unsigned temperature ... }; But it will not be very extendable. Unfocused open-ended question: Does boost offer something that will help me with this? Thank you, Chris

I'm looking for a good data structure that can *maintain* its elements sorted. Currently I'm trying Boost.Heap<http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_53_0/doc/html/heap.html> . I frequently need to orderly traverse the data structure, find a element based on some property and update its priority when it matches. Boost.Heap priority queues provide ordered and non-ordered iterators. Errors compiling for Linux Ubuntu

Hello, Unless my compiler tool chain is off, I am just getting a ton of errors compiling Boost 1.53.0 for Linux Ubuntu. Ultimately, we'll want to cross-compile down to Arch Linux / ARM as well if it makes a difference (and it will). Errors saying failed updating 57 targets, skipped 10150 targets. I am building with all libraries and setting my prefix to /opt/boost_1_53_0. Then I run the ./b2 install. I am basically following the Linux instructions, but apparently, what am I missing? Hi all, I'm using boost.msm from the boost 1.53.0 library. I have together 8 submachines and almost 50 states distributed between the differente submachines. The number of events is 44. Unfortunately I got the following compilation error: * cc1plus.exe:: error: out of memory allocating 65532* First of all I have observed the memory allocation while the compilation phase: It exceeded 2Gm memory and than I've received that error. So, my solution was to switch to an 64 bit system with 8 GB memory. But to hell, I still got this error. My system environment is configured as follows: Operating system : Windows 7 64-Bit MinGW32, gcc v.4.72 Is this an gcc bug or do I have to extend to 16 GB? But I don't think so, as the failue is always reported after almost 2 Gb memory allocation while the compilation phase... [units] Creating a velocity unit

Boost Community, I'm trying to create a custom velocity unit. I would like to create a unit that is in nautical miles per hour to represent my speed value. If I use pound_force.hpp as an example of units with more than one dimension I can create the following. BOOST_UNITS_DEFINE_BASE_UNIT_WITH_CONVERSIONS(metric, nautical_mile_per_hour, "nautical mile per hour", "nmi h^-1", factor, si::velocity, ???); If this is the right track, what id would I use and how do I know that it is unique? This seems forced. I would rather define this unit in terms of meters per second. Nautical miles is already in terms of meters and hours is also defined as a scale of seconds. Can I somehow use these two already defined units to create the new unit? How would I do this? Ryan

Hello, I am having a problem trying to initialize the distributed property map in parallel code. I get a memory access violation when running this part of code: BGL_FORALL_EDGES(e, g, Graph) { remote_key k(rank, index); put(values, k, 0.1); index++; } I followed the distributed_property_map_test, but I cannot figure where is the problem. It fails at the first edge. The distributed map is defined as follows: typedef boost::parallel::distributed_property_map<mpi_process_group, remote_key_to_global, EdgeIndexMap> ValueMap; ValueMap values(g.process_group(), remote_key_to_global(), eindex); values.set_reduce(rank_accumulate_reducer<double>()); Where eindex is a local map with the local indices of the edges.
