Hi all, I want to create a managed_shared_memory in exactly the size I needed. Therefore I do something like this: size = sizeof( common_managed_shared_memory ); size += sizeof( MyClassInSharedMem ); managed_shared_memory segment(create_only, "name", size ); MyClassInSharedMem allocates itself some memory by segment->allocate(). I added this also to the size, but get a boost::interprocess::bad_alloc exception on allocating this additional memory. Are there some magic bytes I forgot to add? Many thanks in advance Kai

[Thread] Read-write locks

I'm trying to create a standard read/write lock using Boost Threads, and I'm having a bit of difficulty mapping the Boost concepts onto the usual ones. A read/write lock should have several states: Locked for reading (multiple threads may lock at once), locked for writing (only one thread may lock, and no threads may be locked for reading at the same time), and unlocked. Ideally it would be nice if an RWL which is locked for reading may temporarily upgrade to locked for writing, then return to the locked for reading state. Boost supports several relevant notions of locking: shared locking, upgrade locking, and exclusive locking. This to me is a confusing distinction. In particular, a shared_mutex seems appropriate as the basis for a RWL, but is lock_upgrade() the equivalent of a write lock and lock_shared the equivalent of a read lock? This is unclear. If "upgrade locking" is not the same as "exclusive locking", then is an upgrade lock actually exclusive? Could someone please clarify this.

[Statechart] How to decide between post_event and process_event atrun time ?

Hi, I have a method in which I want to post/process an event. The thing is, this method can be called from outside the state machine (so I need to call process_event), or indirectly by a reaction of the state machine (in this case I must call post_event since process_event is not reentrant). I don't want to write 2 distinct methods to do this (one that calls post, and the other process), I would much rather prefer adding a 'if' in my method that tells me if I have to call process_event or post_event (if I'm being called indirectly by the state machine or not). Is there a way to do this with statechart ? regards, Philippe

[asio] resolver::cancel() problem

In my application (and a separate test program) it seems as though the cancel() function on the resolver does not work as intended. For async resolves, the cancel functionality should abort them immediately and pass an 'operation aborted' error code to the callback handler. In my tests, I will resolve an invalid domain (this causes the resolve to take a few seconds, to demonstrate the problem), sleep for 100ms, then call cancel on the resolver object. No cancelling actually occurs, and the callback is simply triggered after a few seconds with a "No host found" error code, not the expected operation aborted. Has anyone experienced this before, or know how I might be using the resolver incorrectly?

[boost.test] How to register custom exception for auto test?

Hi, I'm using the test library of boost 1.49.0 for my unit tests. It works fine so fare, but if my program throws an error, I get the default error message unknown location(0): fatal error in "excption1_test": unknown type, witch hides the original error message. I tried to register an error translator, but without success. Hello! According to documentation(v 1.50.0) call boost::this_thread::sleep_for can be interrupted. For some reason this functionality not works for me. I'm trying to install boost on mac osx 10.4.7. Hi, I am new to using boost and am trying to learn basics so I can use regex features in my code. In my test program, I want a function to simply extract some numbers that follow after a certain string pattern and then to read those numbers into a vector. The pattern has the format "sometext>NUMBERS<sometext" newline. The NUMBERS may be one or two digits combined and the pattern is repeated 10 times. I have searched the archives and tried to build something based on the examples I have read, but cannot seem to find a working solution. Can anyone help please in defining an expression? I do not need a solution to my function overall as I should be able to write it correctly once I know how to define the pattern. Kind regards

Hello, how can I design an application that will have a http server like HTTP Server 3 example, but also x number of tcp clients connecting to a server, client must connect to the server before the http server is active, if client is idle with a timer events send an 'I'm here' in every 10 seconds, i tink i have to put the tcp client on a list or ?. Data is received by the http server get the client from list, if non available wait for x amount of time, if time elapsed return incomming data, else, parsing on incomming data, send to tcp server, parse response data put the client back on the list, send response on http, when sending data via tcp client reset the timer. I have the http server working but how do I do with the tcp client, design the threads, should there be only one io_service?, I dont now, im lost! Appreciate all the help. /Christer

[Program Options] terminate parsing after first positional argument

Hello, How can I tell Boost Program Options to stop parsing the arguments as soon as it finds a positional argument? I'd like to be able to parse the argument list "-v chmod -R -v 600 foo" as having one argument for my program (-v) and the rest as a std::vector of std::string (including the -v). In the attached program I have tried 2 different approaches. The first uses multitoken with the arguments "--command date -u -v", it fails because "-u" isn't known. The second uses collect_unrecognized with "chmod -R -v 600", it doesn't work because -v is interpreted by boost and doesn't end up in the vector. As someone said back in 2005, perhaps I'm trying to write xargs: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.user/9529/focus=9641 I know that I can ask my users to write a.out -v -- chmod -R -v 600 foo but I don't want to do that. I want them to write "a.out -v chmod -R -v 600 foo". The first positional argument should should tell boost to stop processing. Another slightly different question. If I have a multitoken option that takes doubles how can I get it to accept negative values? I have a Domain object, which contains a boost::multi_array of cells. each cell contains a list of particles std::list<Particle>. Any ideas how to replace std::list with boost::intrusive::list in a multi_array in a way which wouldn't consume more memory than the std::list approach? [Polygon] Boolean (Clipping) performance

Hi there, I input 200,000 to both polygon set A and B, with each polygon contains 5~8 points then do the A^B; however, this instruction cost about *30 minutes.* my question is: I thought the O(n logn) algorithm with n ~ 1,000,000 just cost about at most 2 or 3 mins I checked the XOR AND OR result is correct, but the performance is weird, did I do anything wrong or misunderstanding? Hello, Boost.System returns the system_category this way: BOOST_SYSTEM_DECL const error_category & system_category() { static const system_error_category system_category_const; return system_category_const; } But couldn't this make double construction/double free in C++03 systems if system_category is ran concurrently? [serialization] deserializing chunk by chunk

Hi, I have an encrypted archive. I can decrypt the file chunk by chunk. I wonder if there is a way to deserialize each chunk on the fly. The main purpose is to reduce the memory footprint of the application since the archive can be a few hundred mega bytes. The problem as I mentioned is the file is encrypted and it has to be decrypted first in the memory and then deserialized. Thanks, Arash

Just upgraded from boost 1.47 to 1.52 and I'm experiencing segmentation faults in boost::filesystem::path::imbue. This is on 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10. Some boost headers use Objective-C keywords

I am using boost 1.49.0. An example of this is boost\local.hpp" which includes "boost\locale\message.hpp" which defines "id" (an Objective-C keyword) as a local variable in one of its inline functions. This causes an issue when boost headers are included in any code that is parsed by the Objective-C compiler and makes it impossible to include some boost headers directly in Objective-C source files. Would be nice if you could avoid using Objective-C keywords in all public headers. Albert

mpi isend to group

Hello, I have got a problem to create a mpi::isend call. I have got a thread loop like: while (thread_is_running) { std::size_t id = 0; if (!mpicom.rank()) { try { id = getID(); mpicom.isend(id) } catch (...) { } } else { mpicom.ireceive(id); } if (id > 0) { mpi::barrier(); do something with id } boost::thread::yield(); } I would like to create a non-blocking communication over all nodes, so my node with rank 0 checks if a dataset exists, if it exists, the id should be send to all other hosts. After all hosts reveived this id, they should start the calculation. The nodes must be synchronized before the "working part" is startet, but if there is no data send to the host, they should do nothing. I don't know how to use isend to send a message to all hosts. I know only the mpi::any_source flag but I can not find an any_destination. IMHO the ireceive call must be written with iprobe like if (boost::optional<mpi::status> l_status = mpicom.iprobe( 0, myTag )) { std::size_t id = 0; mpicom.recv( l_status->source(), l_status->tag(), id ) } Is there a way to create a non-blocking group communication?
