Hi All Is it dangerous to write static Boost.Functions or Boost.Lamda placeholders in a multi-theaded context? I think that might be a really stoopid quesion - I'm just checking! Error C2039 using portable syntax for MultiIndex with Boost 1.34.1 on VC6

I am trying to use Boost Multi_Index from build 1.34.1 to set up a collection of structs. This Multi Index container will have 2 unique keys (ID and Name), since I have to be able to search it with either key. I made the compiler-specific corrections for VC++ 6.0 SP5: boost::multi_index::multi_index_container member_offset<A,int,offsetof(A,x)> My complete declaration is: struct ID(); struct Name(); typedef boost::multi_index::multi_index_container< PDCUTestMessage, boost::multi_index::ordered_unique< boost::multi_index::tag<ID>, boost::multi_index::member_offset<PDCUTestMessage, char, offsetof(PDCUTestMessage, id)> >, boost::multi_index::ordered_unique< boost::multi_index::tag<Name>, boost::multi_index::member_offset<PDCUTestMessage, string, offsetof(PDCUTestMessage, name)> > > > PDCUMessageList; Later, I attempt to set up indicies for both of these keys, according to VC++ 6.0 compiler-specific syntax to bypass the Get/Tag issue: typedef index<PDCUMessageList, ID>::type IDIndex; typedef index<PDCUMessageList, Name>::type NameIndex; Now the error. using the above code, I get the following error: error C2039: 'type': is not a member of "global namespace" referencing the two typedef lines above. [Interprocess] Container of containers LRU

Hi, I'm looking into implementing an object cache available from multiple processes, I naturally found the boost::interprocess library mostly adapted for this. My problem is how to implement a cache eviction mechanism (LRU or other) when shared memory segment has been filled up. My problem gets worse, when I start using containers of containers, as described here : http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_46_1/doc/html/interprocess/allocators_conta… So I have that allocator that I use everywhere, like in the example : typedef managed_shared_memory::segment_manager segment_manager_t; typedef allocator<void, segment_manager_t> void_allocator; I use it to create a boost::interprocess::map of objects, which in turn can contain a boost::interprocess::map of strings in shared memory as well. So to recap, I have an map of Object like an "object store" and each Object can contain a "dictionary" (map of strings) of unknown size, all of those living in a shared memory segment. My problem, is that shared memory segments are of a given size and any of the allocate() operation that the allocator is going to perform (when adding a new Object, or a new element in a dictionary) can throw a boost::interprocess::bad_alloc exception. So I'm wondering if there is a more suited library to do persistent caching of objects between processes, with a way to automatically evicts "old cache" from the memory. Or if there is a way to implement my own allocator that would be more aware of my design, and would deallocate one of the Objects and the associated dictionary if an allocate() were to fail. I've been scratching my head for a little while now, and any suggestions or example of code would be really appreciated! Thank you, Matthieu.

[Lambda] Getting the bind incantation correct.

[Interprocess] error_code_t = 9 (already_exists_error) while opening a fixed_managed_shared_memory

Hello Ion and other Interprocess users, we are currently working with fixed_managed_shared_memory segments and we have a strange behavior while opening existing segments. Sometimes (we did not found the exact scenario yet...), when we try to open a fixed_managed_shared_memory in open_only mode with the code below, we get an interprocess_exception with the an error_code_t = 9 ( already_exists_error ). try{ managedSharedMemorySegment = new fixed_managed_shared_memory(boost::interprocess::open_only, memorySegmentName, memorySegmentMappingAdress); }catch (boost::interprocess::interprocess_exception e){ return e.get_error_code(); } A first sight this error_code seems very strange, because in open_only mode the segment is intended to already exists so that should not be an error. Walking the code I found in the mapped_region constructor the following code which trigger the exception : 522: //Check for fixed mapping error if(address && (old_base != address)){ error_info err = system_error_code(); this->priv_close(); throw interprocess_exception(err); } It seems that the mmap function returns an address different that the given one, which is considered an error. So I have two questions : 1) Do you have an idea why the mmap function maps the segment at a different address from the provided one, knowing that this address is the one returned from code below on another process (so should be valid) ? try{ managedSharedMemorySegment = new fixed_managed_shared_memory(boost::interprocess::create_only, memorySegmentName, memorySegmentSize); memorySegmentMappingAdress = managedSharedMemorySegment->get_address(); }catch (boost::interprocess::interprocess_exception e){ return e.get_error_code(); } 2) In the mapped_region constructor, when a non null address value is given as a parameter, could we use the MAP_FIXED flag to force the mmap function to map the segment at the provided address ? Problem with boost 1.36 on RHEL4

Hi all! I am struggling with some unit tests that fail only on RHEL4 release build. They pass on RHEL4 debug, RHEL5 release/debug, likewise also pass on win32, win64 (using either vc8 or vc9).. When the log library (http://boost-log.sourceforge.net/) will be the part of official boost distribution? If there is no log library currently included in boost then what is the one most in use?
