building boost with unsupported compiler

Hi, I'm looking to build Boost with a compiler not currently supported, but I'm struggling to find information on where I should really begin. It seems that I'll need to create my own toolset module (something like ..../boost_1_39_0/tools/build/v2/tools/blackfin.jam) with the toolchain's specific build switches etc, rebuild bjam then build Boost. I presume that boost also has some libraries which may need some specific options, or tweaking to work but am I getting the gist of it correctly? Should I be expecting major configuration headaches (toolchain-specific build\runtime issues aside) in adding a new architecture? Thanks, - Sean

Does this template<class T> T& *deref*( T* p ) { return *p; } exist anywhere in Boost? It's the kinda thing you need quite often when using bind, but I can't find it anywhere, which surprised me! Thanks, - Rob.

hi, erveryone, I'm building a graph incrementally using boost::adjacency_list with bundled properties. I did the following typedef: typedef boost::adjacency_list<setS, vecS, bidirectionalS, EdgeClass, NodeClass> Graph; EdgeClass and NodeClass is some classes holding the properties of edges and nodes so that I can access them by using g[u].some_property = 1; My problem is that I'm building the graph incrementally and the graph is huge. And with the definition I'm using the vector to hold the vertices, which results in many memory relocation and copy and makes the program stagnate. I wanted to use listS/mapS for the vertex list instead. However, the bundled property seems to work only with vecS only. Otherwise, compilation error will be thrown. program_options and value<T>

I want to extend the program_options to support parsing of value types that are not supported by default. For example, parsing of enum types. Suppose I have an enum typedef enum { ValueA, ValueB, ValueC } TestEnum; as well as some other enums. What I'd like to do is something like this: options_description options; variables_map variables; options.add_options() ("test", value<TestEnum>(), "test") ("test2", value<TestEnum2>(), "test2"); etc. So that on the command line I can specify something along the lines of foo.exe --test=ValueA --test2=ValueAA and it will automatically convert them appropriately. Anyone can point me in the direction?

binary mpl::transform fails to compile with fusion::vector

I am hoping someone can point me the in right direction regarding this code snippit failing to compile. My suspicion is that it is a header problem but any help would be appreciated. In short, I seem to be missing why the binary form of mpl::transform won't work with fusion::vector. (unary form works just fine). The code below just attempts to make a std::pair<> from the contents of two sequences (this is just an example to illustrate the transform problem). If the two sequences are mpl::vectors, everything is fine. If they are fusion::vectors then 'lots of errors'. I'm fairly new to both mpl and fusion so I am not ruling out the fact that I have done something stupid. Simple fast parsing

I am currently using in a project a custom-writen recursive-decent parser, which uses an filtering_istream so I can support compressed input. The only functionality used is peekchar, getchar and integer extraction with 'stream >> i'. I am finding that C++ streams, particularly when it comes to integer extraction, are giving terrible performance. In a small test, uncompressing to a buffer and then writing a simple custom reader on that memory buffer gives 10x performance. I would perfer not to write and support such a tool if possible. Is there a boost library which easily supports a parser with 1 character lookahead and simple things like integer extraction? Looking at the documentation, Boost::Spirit seems like a very big hammer to crack this quite small nut, and it is unclear to me how well it would fit into an existing recursive decent parser. Has anyone ever used it as such? Is there a simple alternative? Chris

[Asio] Confusion with socket.cancel()

Hi, I am getting confused, could anyone clarify the following points? (Note that I am in a single thread context) 1- After a call to socket.async_send_to(buffer, remote_endpoint, write_handler) followed by a call to socket.cancel() is it possible that the write operation completed before I called cancel() and that my write_handler will be called with no error? 2- After a call to socket.async_send_to(buffer, remote_endpoint, write_handler) followed by a call to socket.cancel() is it possible that some data has actually been written to the socket (let's assume the buffer is quite big) and that then, the operation has been canceled? In such case, would my write_handler be called with both boost::asio::placeholders::error set AND boost::asio::placeholders::bytes_transferred equal to the partial data that has been written?
