hello list, i have upgraded to boost 1.35.0. running under win32 using visual studio 2008, i get: lib/boost/libs/filesystem/src/exception.cpp(39) : error C2039: 'system_error_type' : is not a member of 'boost::filesystem' what should i do? get the latest from subversion ? or downgrade to 34.1 ? everything else works fine. by the way, i include #include "../../lib/boost/libs/filesystem/src/operations.cpp" #include "../../lib/boost/libs/filesystem/src/exception.cpp" #include "../../lib/boost/libs/filesystem/src/path.cpp" #include "../../lib/boost/libs/filesystem/src/portability.cpp" #include "../../lib/boost/libs/system/src/error_code.cpp" #include "../../lib/boost/libs/iostreams/src/bzip2.cpp" manually. maybe this causes the problem? thanks in advance !

install_name incorrect for dylibs on OS X 10.4

Hi, This seems to be a problem for a few of the dynamic libraries. Running otool on libboost_filesystem, for example, gives: otool -L /opt/local/lib/libboost_filesystem-mt-1_35.dylib /opt/local/lib/libboost_filesystem-mt-1_35.dylib: /opt/local/lib/libboost_filesystem-mt-1_35.dylib (compatibility version 0.0.0, current version 0.0.0) libboost_system-mt-1_35.dylib (compatibility version 0.0.0, current version 0.0.0) /usr/lib/libstdc++.6.dylib (compatibility version 7.0.0, current version 7.4.0) /usr/lib/libgcc_s.1.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 1.0.0) /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 88.3.3) The install_name of libboost_system-mt-1_35.dylib is missing the absolute path. Using gcc 4.2 mudflap with boost 1.34.1

First, please excuse the length of this message, I just want to provide a clear picture of what's happening. I'm interested in using the gcc mudflap feature (sort of valgrind/purify implemented in the compiler) with the boost libraries. http://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/Mudflap_Pointer_Debugging http://gcc-hk.internet.bs/summit/2003/mudflap.pdf Unfortunately, I'm running into serious problems. Preliminaries: I'm using gcc 4.2, boost 1.34.1, Ubuntu Linux Hardy Heron. I found a message from 2006-07-31 discussing mudflap (http://lists.boost.org/boost-build/2006/07/14546.php) but it only refers to build flags. I believe mudflap is implemented correctly, as I've used it successfully on other non-boost test cases. Has anyone used mudflap successfully with boost? boost::mpl::switch?

Hey guys, I was wondering if there was some sort of MPL Switch concept in the boost library. Before I go any further on that topic, let me first explain what I'm trying to do. I'm currently using a library that has several functions as follows: void SetParamFloat( char* name, float value ); void SetParamInt( char* name, int value ); void SetParamString( char* name, char* value ); I'm creating a sort of facade around this library, and as a result I have a function that looks as follows: template< typename t_type > void SetParam( char* name, t_type value ); What I need to do is map real types to function pointers, obviously. But I want all of this to be done at compile time, since I have all of the information to do so. My first thought on a solution to this problem was boost::mpl::map, but then I thought to myself: How do I pass function pointers as template arguments? And on top of that, since all of the functions I'd be mapping to types all have different types anyway, creating a functor object for function pointers seems difficult as you would have to do a lot of messy template class specializations. We'd have to wrap the function pointers in functors of some sort because boost::mpl::map requires typed template arguments, instead of non-type template arguments. This is what brings me to a sort of switch concept. If there was such a concept in the boost library, it might be more likely to hide the boiler plate code required simply to get to the point to where I can start adding items to a boost::mpl::map. I realize there is no boost::switch concept (at least that google shows), but I was wondering if there was something like it. As a pseudo code example, I would want the logic of my new function to work as follows: template< typename t_type > void SetParam( char* name, t_type value ) { switch( t_type ) { case float: { SetParamFloat( name, value ); break; } case int: { SetParamInt( name, value ); break; } case char*: { SetParamString( name, value ); break; } } } Any help is greatly appreciated. I guess what I really need is some guidance on the matter. I strive for a generic way to implement this, but I don't want it to look messy, as most template code has the bad habit of turning out that way.

To use the remove_edge() function I have to change my graph definition from typedef adjacency_list< vecS, vecS, ....> to adjacency_list< ListS, listS, ....> . now the add_edge (...) function gives me an error while compiling: 'boost::add_edge' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'int' to 'void *' what does this mean ???? also using these typedefs: typedef graph_traits < TGraph >::vertex_descriptor Tvertex_descriptor; typedef graph_traits < TGraph >::edge_descriptor Tedge_descriptor; typedef graph_traits <TGraph>::vertex_iterator Tvertex_iter; typedef graph_traits <TGraph>::edge_iterator Tedge_iter; seems to be no good idea, because I get many compiler errors now? I just did an upgrade from 1.33.1 to 1.35.0 and got bit by the BOOST_ALL_DYN_LINK et al macros. Anyways at http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_35_0/libs/filesystem/doc/index.htm#Build ing there is a reference to http://www.boost.org/more/separate_compilation.html explaining the macros, which does not exist. Any idea where this link should be as I am would be curious to read up on these macros. Consider the following example: template<int ()> struct X {}; This means your type X expects a function pointer type with return value int and no parameters. This can be used in a meta programming to make some type assumptions or inspection. This is how the result_of works. Think of result_of as of type X but a bit more complex and which can give an assumption about the function type passed. We can write: template<int ()> struct X { typedef int type; }; A more generic form would be if int would be any valid result type T, so that we could write smth like this: template<T ()> struct X { typedef T type; }; Actually this is not a legal C++ struct, since T was not declared as template parameter, but think of it as if it would. template<T MyFunc()> struct X { typedef T result_type; typedef MyFunc function_type; }; Here MyFunc is a name of the function pointer type, which allows us to reference this type from inside the template. this problem came from trying to create a 64bit executable using 32bit libraries. BOOST & STLport

What needs to be done to get BOOST (1.34.1) and STLport (5.1.5) to correctly coexist with each other under Windows and Visual Studio 2005? I have scoured the web and tried a ton of different configurations, none of which have worked. The problems that I am seeing appear to be related to STLport's IOStreams vs Microsoft's IOStreams.
