Since you are interested in type contained in integral_c you can access it via integral_c<float, X>::value_type. Therefore: mpl::front<my_vector>::type::value_type ^^^^ ^^^^^ + => integral_c<float, X>::value_type + => integral_c<float, X> result in correct type resolution stored in mpl::vector. Hope that helps. [preprocessor] Argument list conversion

Hi, I have the following fun problem, seemingly simple, but couldn't find the trick. The objective is to convert a given argument list to some other one or more useful argument list. Each of the arguments are copied verbatim into the other list unless it is specified to be a SPECIAL_TYPE. For example the following two-argument macro function call: FUNKY_MACRO( 5, ( double*, SPECIAL_TYPE, const char[], SPECIAL_TYPE, int) ) would spit out: (double*, const char[], int, special1, special1); (double*, special1, const char[], special1, int, special2, special2); note that, in the first generated tuple SPECIAL_TYPE is replaced by some other text, and moved to the end of the tuple. In the second one, same replacement occurs and some yet other text is appended repeatedly at the end, same number of times as SPECIAL_TYPE appears in the original list. MSVC-7.1 does not compile all the project code

Hi, I downloaded and ran bjam from the BOOST home directory. Most of the projects compiled OK. But projects using read_graphviz_spirit.cpp cause "cl.exe" to terminate. cl.exe resulted in an buffer overrun error. The cl compiler I'm using is MSVC++ 7.1 standard edition (no optimization). ASIO: When part of official Boost release?

Hi, I don't know if boost has a solution for my problem, or there is just something simple I miss... I've been struggling with some preprocessor things. I'm trying to use it for versioning. Here is the problem: I've got these defines: #define VERSION_MAJOR 5 #define VERSION_MINOR 4 #define VERSION_BUILD 3 #define VERSION_SUBBUILD 2 Sometimes I just need a string like: "5.4.3.2". I do it like this: #define STRINGER_(s) #s #define STRINGER(s) STRINGER_(s) #define VERSION_STRING_1 \ STRINGER(VERSION_MAJOR) "." \ STRINGER(VERSION_MINOR) "." \ STRINGER(VERSION_BUILD) "." \ STRINGER(VERSION_SUBBUILD) So VERSION_STRING_1 is "5.4.3.2" Now I need a string like: "5.4.3b". (Note the 'b'. When VERSION_SUBBUILD == 3, I want it to be a 'c' etc) How do I do this in a preprocessor command???? The char is simple, its (VERSION_SUBBUILD+'a'-1). How do I add that to a string?? Error using boost::thread for the first time.

Hi there, I am using boost::thread for the first time as part of boost::asio. I am trying to compile the chat_client.cpp example. When I uncomment the threading line, it won't link. Hi, I still got some starting problems with the boost::serialization library. I want to serialize a shared_ptr to my own polymorphic class. I'm building my own networkprotocol and the basic idea is a kind of "header"-class which with a shared_ptr<data_base> which can point to a lot of different data structs, which are polymorphic children of data_base. This "header"-class is then serialized and send to another peer. But how should this peer get the real type from the shared_ptr<data_base>? Which child is it pointing to? I can get the name with "typeid()", but i cannot get the type through that way. I would like to get the type from it automaticly without using some case-conditions, so i only have to add a new child of data_base and can use it, without changing any networkprotocol related code. [boost] build of boost 1.34.0 with STLport

hello, I downloaded the new boost 1.34 and try to build it. I found the doc of the new release have been improved a lot. But still with one thing I'm confused - with version 1.33.1, I can build the libs using VC6, VC7.1 or VC8.0 with different toolset files, and I also can use seperate toolset files if I want to build with STLport. In 1.34, I found only a msvc.jam and there's no STLport counterpart. Can anybody give me an explanation on this and tell me how to make a STLport build? I'm using MSVC7.1 on Windows XP. I'm trying to use local_address_ = socket_.local_endpoint().address(); right after I connect to remote server, but it always return "127.0.0.1" as result. HI! Is there any opportunity, to avoid double allocation of memory using pointer containers? I have simple code (below) and I want allocate memory for objects, construct them, and _move_ (transfer) pointer to the container. [boost] building CVS HEAD on msvc 8.0

Hi, Moved from cygwin onto native msvc. Trying to build libraries from the HEAD sources on msvc and it can't find wtypes.h... windows.h etc I tried pointing at the mingw headers but that was a complete waste of time.... What am i doing wrong? Andy

[asio] some design questions

Hi. I'm looking at the Design page of the asio docs (http://tinyurl.com/2b5afn) and several questions come to mind: 1. The "Proactor" page has Advantages/Disadvantages section, but it doesn't specify in comparison to what (advantages and disadvantages are always compared to something). I'm getting the impression that it's compared to the Reactor approach. Is this correct? 2. The "Platform-Specific Implementation" page notes that when using select/epoll/kqueue, demultiplexing is performed in one of the threads that calls boost::asio::io_service::run(). I assume that when this thread is awaken to perform some task, one of the other threads that called run() on the same boost::asio::io_service takes it position as waiting on select/epoll/kqueue. Is this correct? 3. The "Platform-Specific Implementation" page also notes that "An additional thread per io_service is used to emulate asynchronous host resolution. This thread is created on the first call to either boost::asio::ip::tcp::resolver::async_resolve() or boost::asio::ip::udp::resolver::async_resolve()." So I guess that if I resolve() rather than async_resolve(), then no thread is created, and the actual resolving is done in the thread that called resolve()? I think all these notes would be a good addition to the docs. Thanks.

[Serialization] BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_GUID() destroying namespace

Hi, When i put the script BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_GUID() into my code directly after the definition of my base class and derived classes, my namespace seems to be broken. The classes are defined in my namespace "water". When i put the script into the code, it fails to find boost::bind in the source file! THe compiler searches for bind in the namespace "water::boost". But without the script it compiles fine! Someone got a clue whats wrong? Kind Regards Manuel Jung

How to Compile boost on AIX using xlC

Hello, I'm having a hard time compiling boost on AIX using xlC. 1) My general question, is what steps have people taken to compile boost on AIX using xlC? - did you modify makefiles, and use gmake ? - did you use bjam instead ? - what changes are needed to various makefiles, etc., to compile on AIX with xlC ? - did you use gnu compatible xlc ? 2) Currently I'm attempting to build regex right now on AIX with xlC I could compile it easily using gcc: gmake -fgcc.mak But I can't using xlC. I've modified generic.mak, to use xlC as the compiler, and it doesn't get that far. I'm using this within the */regex/build directory. Warning messages that I've encountered so far include the following: (these are just snippets) The incomplete class "gcc_3_2_wknd" must not be used as a qualifier. A non-type template parameter cannot have type "const bool" After the warning messages are printed out, gmake returns Error 1: gmake: *** [xlC/boost_regex-xlC-1_33_1/cregex.o] Error 1 Thanks for any help. Bug in Graph Library Docs?

At http://www.boost.org/libs/graph/doc/adjacency_list.html, there's a table of how graph operations affect iterators and descriptors. That table states that add_vertex will not invalidate vertex descriptors when the vertex list is a vecS. I recently discovered that this is wrong for Boost 1.33.1. That makes sense because adding an edge could cause the vector to be reallocated and therefore all vertex descriptors to become invalid. I would assume this holds for edge descriptors and iterators as well. Is the documentation wrong or has this changed in 1.34? -Dave

Boost Asio Error

Hello, I've just discovered boots::asio. Looks good but got a small problem. I'm basing my client on the chat_client example, but having a problem. In the example, command line arguments are passed to the chat_client specifying server details. My question is, what is the format of the argv in the example? I have modified things a little to fit into my system, but am not sure what to pass the chat_client class.
