Is this a standard procedure what people do when something is not working in boost? Could you give me your compiler/linker options and setting so that I could make something similar? But I can tell you that our product is built with STLport and VC 7.1, and we're using Boost filesystem, signals, Boost.Python, bind, shared_ptr, lambda, iterators, and undoubtedly a few others I can't remember off the top of my head. But as I've remarked a few times previously, we only briefly crossed swords with bjam. Then we backed away slowly, making the sign to ward off complexity, and built VC "projects" of our own for the three Boost libraries we use that need to be prebuilt: filesystem, signals and Boost.Python. It's only fair to add that we're still using Boost 1.31. The migration from 1.30 to 1.31 cost us a week, and we have since been shy about jumping into new Boost versions. I had a quick look at the regression test for boost using vc-7_1-stlport. It seems none of the tests has been passed. The question is, what is the point to add and release something if is does not work at all? Thanks for help, I would like to build (compile and link) some examples from the filesystem directory. Can anyone tell me how to do this? In which file I can find the compiler and linker flags used by bjam for vc-7_1-stlport build? Perhaps if I will not be able to link this will indicate some errors in the compiler flags I am using in my program. [Review][fixed_string] : First Example

Hi Reece, When I started of with the first example in the documentation I found that there some issues in compilation. All those issues are due to the two phase argument lookup problem that I have seen the second time today :-). Once I fixed it I was able to get a clean compile. Hi, I have compiled the boost library for VC7.1 with STL_PORT using the following command line arguments: bjam -"sTOOLS=vc-7_1-stlport" --prefix=C:\Boost\temp install Everything went fine after I have exported the STLPORT_PATH. I create a simple project, code is generated for dynamic runtime lib with the multithreaded option. All, I have a project generated as multithreaded DLL in VC++ 7.1. I have to use STL-PORT together with boos. When I compile the boost libs there is no single dll library generated by bjam. None of the compiled libraries links properly with my solution. Can anyone help me with this issue. I have a 4D multi_array and I define a 3D view on it. I can assign the view to a 3D multi array but I can't pass it directly to a constructor that takes a 3D multi_array. Isn't a 3d view on anything a model of a 3d multi_array? (for the sake of this discussion, element is always double). It is a pleasure for me to announce the availability of a preview version of Boost.MultiIndex as planned for shipping with Boost 1.34, downloadable at the Vault: http://www.boost-consulting.com/vault/index.php?&direction=0&order=&directo… (file multi_index.zip) This version includes several important new features: * New random access indices, which behave like sequenced indices with the added benefit of random access semantics. * Rearrange facilities in sequenced and random access indices, allowing for interoperability with external mutating algorithms. This is IMHO an important feature that can open up new usage scenarios for Boost.MultiIndex. * Several optimizations, of which the most important one relates to ordered indices headers, which are now 4 bytes shorter (on 32 bit systems): this optimization also leads to better performance for large numbers of elements. All in all, the upgrade is very extensive, so I'd appreciate if you test if for backwards compatibility even if you don't plan to use the new features. Additionally, I'd greatly welcome receiving any kind of feedback on the new stuff, the docs (which has been restructured and expanded) and whatever aspect you might think can be improved. <smart_ptr>: A newbie question (about BOOST_SP_USE_QUICK_ALLOCATOR)

Hi, I understand that shared_ptr uses the 'quick_allocator' when I compile the library with BOOST_SP_USE_QUICK_ALLOCATOR. But this means that I get the 'quick_allocator' working for every type that I use with shared_ptr, and this bothers me because this seems as a waste of memory for instances of classes that are not frequently used. Besides, the 'quick_allocator' unlike Scott Meyers suggestion (use a pool that can be destroyed) doesn't frees its free blocks which means that, shared_ptr of types that are used only in initialization stage will occupy memory which can not be recycled. Hi, Does Boost Math Library support Statistic Calculation? (e.g. median, std deviation, etc)? >From here, it does not appear Boost Math library calculate has statistic algorithm. If not, can someone please recommend some c/c++ library which does statistics? Serialization of static member variables?

Hi, If see from the serialization documentation that if I serialize a pointer more than once, only one instance will appear in the archive. However, what about static member variables? Will they only be serialized once, even if I serialize multiple objects of the class type? e.g. class foo { private: int i; static int j; friend class boost::serialization::access; template<class Archive> void serialize(Archive& ar, const unsigned int version) { ar & i; ar & j; // Will j be serialized multiple times, i.e. once per foo instance? } }; Thanks, Joseph -- http://www.cs.nyu.edu/~turian/

[serialization] default constructor problem

Hi, I am currently experimenting with writing a compiler tool which generates the code necessary for using boost::serialization. While working on this I found that I am unable to serialize a variable declaration which is a reference to a class constructed with the default constructor '()'( ex. class foo var(); ). I have tried to find an explanation for this in the examples, documentation and through searching the web without success. Using pointers it works fine with the default constructor and I do not see why it should be any different for references (as references in essence are pointers). Is it possible to serialize a class constructed using the default constructor using boost::serialization, and if so how? [mpl] inherit_linearly

I'm trying something new using mpl's inherit_linearly but I can't figure out how to do what I want to do. The idea, simply: template<typename Policies> class Test : public inherit_linearly<Policies, inherit<_1, _2> >::type { public: void do_something(void) { for each Base in Policies Base::do_something(); rof } }; Is there a straightforward way to do this or am I thinking about this in the wrong way? -Dave
