Hello I am having trouble to garbage-collect adjacency_list<>. I have instanciated it with correctly garbage-collected vectors and lists (I have copied vecS and listS definitions, and added Boehm GC's default allocator so that they are garbage-collected). In my application I need to dynamically allocate many graphs, but it does not work, there is a (big) memory leak. Unfortunately, there is no template argument in adjacency_list<> to specify Boehm GC's allocator. Does anyone have a hint ? BGL: INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR in VC7.1

This one was already posted by Nicholas Burlett awhile back (see http://lists.boost.org/MailArchives/boost-users/msg06534.php) but I have some new info that may help. The problem: ========= When compiling code that uses the boost.graph library the VC7.1 compiler shouts: c:\boost_1_32_0\boost\mpl\aux_\preprocessed\plain\apply_wrap.hpp(48) : fatal error C1001: INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR As Nicholas already noted, this seems to be due to some compiler problem with the boost.graph out_edge_iterators since it is caused by the following lines in my code: (FilteredGraphGenerator::FilteredGraph is a typedef of a boost::filtered_graph) typedef boost::graph_traits<FilteredGraphGenerator::FilteredGraph> ::out_edge_iterator oedge_iterator; oedge_iterator edgesItr, edgesEnd; boost::tie(edgesItr, edgesEnd) = boost::out_edges(itr->first, m_g.m_filteredGraph); while (edgesItr != edgesEnd) { // do anything! } In fact, it seems to be related to the operator!= between iterators (if the while loop is commented out it compiles). How ever, the error persists even after changing the operator!= to operator== : while (edgesItr == edgesEnd) { // do anything! } ========================================================================== Some findings: =========== * We used to use boost_1_30_0 and the code used to compile PERFECTLY. [BGL] how to actually search with DFS/BFS?

This may seem like a silly question, but how does one actually search with DFS or BFS? Say I want to find the first node for which a predicate returns true in a BFS traversal starting at node N... The function signatures don't have a parameter for "criteria" or "predicate", so I guess it's up for a Visitor to implement such a check. What is not clear to me is how the visitor functions can break out of the search once a condition is true. Building boost for 64-bit on AIX

Hi, I'm trying to build boost (1.32.0) on an IBM SP2 under AIX5, using the 64-bit ABI. This is troublesome. I do: bjam "-sTOOLS=gcc" "-sGXX=g++ -maix64 -pthread" --prefix=$HOME --libdir=$HOME/lib64-gcc --includedir=$HOME/include-gcc install But it doesn't work. Thread cancellation

Hi, I know at present that the Boost Threads implementation does not provide a terminate() / cancel() function, but the documentation suggests that work is in progress to implement this feature once a safe and portable way is found. I was just wondering whether this will appear soon in future releases, or if it is likely to be some time? At present I can kill a thread internally by simply throwing an exception and not catching it. But externally I cannot. I have a thread pool server I built some time ago using the pthread API and I'm porting it to use Boost Threads. The server has add() and remove() thread methods. Within the remove function under the pthread implementation I could call pthread_cancel(thrID) and that would be that, Obviously I cant call thread.cancel() as I'd like here and was wondering if there were any simple ways to signify that a particular thread should terminate? strange filesystem dll behaviour

Hi, I'm having killer problems with the filesystem library. I'm compiling it with bjam "-sTOOLS=mingw", which seems to work just fine. tribool question

Hi, I'm using boost::logic::tribool for expressing logical flags that may be nulls by their nature (patient not asked, he/she doesn't know etc.). Default initialization to 'false' seems to be quite unnatural in this context and initialization to 'undetermined' seems to be prefered. Is any significant reason for boost::logic::tribool default constructor initializing the value to 'false'? TIA -- Serge

RegEx Bug

Hello, I have this regex: ^.*(?=(?:.*[A-Z]){2,})(?=(?:.*\d){2,}).*$ According to RegExBuddy, this should match with a string that has two upper cases and two digits. However, using the boost_regex_vc7 dll the result works with two upper case, a single digit, and any other character. For example, AA1! Matches, but it shouldn't. Can someone help me identify if it is RegEx that has the bug, RegExBuddy, or if I am just off my rocker! Thanks Robert

How to copy binary file to dynamic bitset?

Hello, I would like to try one-bit correlation between two one-bit sampling VLBI data files using powerful dynamic bitset library. (VLBI:Very Long Baseline Interferometer) A binary file japan.dat includes one-bit sampling data of a quasar received at a Japanese antenna and another binary file usa.dat includes one-bit sampling data of a same quasar received simultaneously at a US antenna. The bitset block size should be more than 10Mbits What kind of constructor codes should I write to copy the bit-pattern of each data file to each very long dynamic bitset? Building on AIX

bjam's need of boost-build.jam

Hi, Is there a way of specifying the boost-build dir in the top-level Jamfile of a project? It seems like it can only be done in the boost-build.jam file (using environment var is not an option here). Seems like a bit of a cludge to have to use yet another file to specify that. Thanks, Oliver

Adapters library: using back_insertor with make_transform_iterator

How does this work? I'm trying to use the make_transform_iterator to make a writeable output iterator (looks like it is referred to as a "Writeable LValue" in the iterator template code), but I can't figure out how to do it. supressing "extra ;" warnings with GCC 3.4

Hi folks, Tried to compile our code with GCC 3.4 last night; our default is to always keep the warning levels turned all the way up. I'm getting many errors of the "extra `;'" type, as the result of various preprocessor metaprogramming constructs. Specifically, if a macro expands to a function definition (silly example): #define FOO(T) \ inline T FOO(T i) { ... } FOO(int); FOO(double); The semicolons after the macro invocations give GCC 3.4 fits; but without the semicolons, it looks strange, editors can't indent, etc. Is anyone aware of a way to silence the "extra ;" errors? (I've looked through their docs, can't find anything; I suspect other Boost users have run across this.) Is there something I'm missing in the preprocessor library that handles this sort of thing? Any help appreciated! Tuple.hpp: initialization data in header

My compiler is complaining that tuple_basic.hpp has data initialization in header, at this line: detail::swallow_assign const ignore = detail::swallow_assign(); Because of this, it can't cache the headers, and compilation times goes turtle speed. Is there a simple way to overcome this, without the need to create a .cpp and linking it or without using macros?? Thanks :)

Hi All, Given two vector<Rec*> S.T. : vector<Rec*> src; vector<Rec*> dst; Where 'src' has some elements that are useful, is there a more succint way to say: for_each(src.begin(), src.end(), if_then( bind<bool>(&vector<Rec*>::empty, &var(dst)), bind<void>(&vector<Rec*>::push_back, &var(dst), _1) ) ); Originally I tried using the member pointer operator, but this it gave me compile fits (Red Hat with a 2.4.20-8 kernel, GCC 3.4.3) with this: for_each(src.begin(), src.end(), if_then(bind<bool>(&vector<Rec*>::empty, &var(dst)), (&var(dst) ->* &vector<Rec*>::push_back)(_1) ) ); Is that a valid use of the member pointer operator? boost.regex doesn't implement character set complements?

Hi: I was trying to write "Match everything *except* Bar". I wrote this: bool aResult = boost::regex_match(L"Foo", boost::wregex(L"[^(Bar)]")); This doesn't match. But if I wrote the same thing in Perl, it does work, ie: print "match\n" if( "Foo" =~ "[^(Bar)]"); It looks a lot like sets can't contain subexpressions in boost::regex ... is that really true? Is there some other way to write the same thing? Rob.

Lambda and Borland C++

I've found a topic of 2 and a half years ago stating that the Lambda library was unusable in Borland C++. Now, in version 1.32.0, it continues unusable. The #inclusion of lambda.hpp itself triggers a lot of errors (nof_elems cannot be used without an object, etc...). There was a suggestion on using spirit/phoenix, but it also generates some errors in this compiler. So, my question again is: how to use Lambda functions or something equivalent in Borland C++? Thanks!

Boost.Thread tss_cleanup_implemented question

I'm having some difficulty understanding what I need to implement in tss_cleanup_implemented when using boost.thread I'm using Windows Borland C++ Builder 6 (bcc32 v5.6.4) Roguewave stl Static (.lib) build of boost.thread In my project I #define BOOST_THREAD_USE_LIB My first problem was a pair of unresolved externals - this seems to happen occasionally with boost, bcb6 & roguewave. The missing definitions were boost::thread::thread(boost::function0<void>&) and boost::detail::tss::init(boost::function1<void, void *, std::allocator<boost::function_base> > *) I resolved these by forcing the compiler to generate the relevant code by #including the implementation definitions and creating a function which is never called so: #if (__BORLANDC__ >= 0x560) && defined(_USE_OLD_RW_STL) #include <boost/thread.hpp> #include <boost/thread/tss.hpp> #include <libs/thread/src/thread.cpp> #include <libs/thread/src/tss.cpp> void DummyFuncToGenerateTemplateSpecializations(void) { // This forces generation of // boost::thread::thread(boost::function0<void>&) boost::function0<void> A = NULL; boost::thread B(A); // This forces generation of // boost::detail::tss::init(boost::function1<void, void *, // std::allocator<boost::function_base> > *) // but has the consequence of requiring the deliberately undefined function // tss_cleanup_implemented boost::function1<void, void*>* C = NULL; boost::detail::tss D(C); } But this then causes a call to the deliberately undefined tss_cleanup_implemented so I get another unresolved external. filesystem statistics

Hello all, I was browsing boost to find some portable means for getting file system statistics such as file system (disk) size, free space, etc. I kind of expected to see this in the boost filesystem library, but they don't appear to be there. Doesn't even seem to be in the "Do-list". Am I missing something? Looking in the wrong place? Thanks, Steve

Memory pool

Hi, I am working on a project, where the requirement is to share memory between processes. I have been reading at the boost::pool documentation. But unfortunately I suspect that I can't use it very easily. Basically, what I want to do is pre-allocate a large fixed size memory segment using mmap, and hand that memory over to pool. The pool should allocate memory from this segment. However I can't find such an interface for pool. I know that you can write a UserAllocator, but, I can not write one for shared memory. Dynamic nature of UserAllocator would mean maintaining free block myself, which is precisely what I wanted to avoid at the first place. Is it possible to use the pool interface to achieve this? If yes how? If not, can you suggest an alternate package or something? Or, Am I missing something? Please help.
