Will libraries built on WinNT run on Win98? (MinGW)

I know that Win98 is not really supported, but is there any chance that libraries (specifically thread and regex) that were build on WinNT using MinGW work on Win98 (in MinGW)? My guess is no, but has anyone tried it? thanks reed

I've got some code that uses the format library to format output, not out of necessity, but rather out of a wanton enjoyment derived from using the syntax, having lately (relatively) discovered boost, prefering the boost::format simple syntax to the posix printf and std::ostringstream flavored solutions. Signals - last call

Hello everyone, I have a question concerning signals. I wanted to force one of the callbacks to be called last. Obviously this needs to be done in an agnostic way since the calling function will probably not know how many other callbacks are connected and so on. I could not find anything in the documentation - only about numbered calls. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Georgios

Hi, Just want to know *exactly* how to use boost::signals in a Qt project. I read this : http://www.boost.org/doc/html/ch06s04.html but I don't understand how to do it. I try to recompile boost with : "-sBUILD=<define>BOOST_SIGNALS_NAMESPACE=signalslib". After that, I try to directly change BOOST_SIGNALS_NAMESPACE in signals_common.hpp but didn't work neither. ublas aix test failures

Hello, I am interested in using ublas for a large government project. I noticed ublas (as of 8-19-2004) failed test3 on the visual age c++ compiler. What does this test exercise? I've been experimenting with subgraphs. At present, they look quite useful in what I'm trying to do, but I've questions. If I add custom vertex and edge properties to my base graph, can I access these through a subgraph, using local vertex/edge descriptors? If not, is there a way of obtaining the mapping between global and local vertex/edge descriptors?

I've apparently succeeded in switching from external to internal properites in my application. However, I've done things in an OOP way, and would like to know if somebody can point out potential trouble. I've a class, called Graph, that inherits from the boost::graph object. The start of its definition is: class Graph : public GraphT { public: Graph(); // Graph Data accessor methods typedef boost::property_map<GraphT, vertex_Datum_t>::type VertexData; typedef boost::property_map<GraphT, edge_Datum_t>::type EdgeData; const VertexData& getVertexData(void) const {return vertexData_;} ... private: VertexData vertexData_; }; Note the typedef of VertexData. I initialize vertexData_ in the Graph constructor like this: vertexData_ = boost::get(vertex_Datum, *this); I've numerous methods like this in Graph: Vertex DataGraph::add_vertex(LayoutVertex *pLayoutVertex) { Vertex vertex = boost::add_vertex(*this); boost::put(vertexData_,vertex,Vertex_Datum(pLayoutVertex)); return vertex; } I guess my biggest concern is initializing vertexData_ once, before the graph has any data, and keeping it around though the life of the graph. Is this safe? Also, I expect clients of this class to be able to use the operator[] method via getVertexData(). Will this work?

problem compiling with threads and stlport

hi, I'm new to boost, stlport and programming on linux in general, so I apologise now for any obvious beginner errors! I'm using mandrake 10 and gcc 3.3.2, and using root I created STLport 4.6.2 libraries, and then created all the boost 1.31.0 libraries using bjam -sTOOLS=gcc-stlport -sBUILD="debug release <stlport-iostream>on" install I had to have this little lot in my bashrc file to do it; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib export STLPORT_VERSION=4.6.2 export STLPORT_ROOT=/home/ncain export STLPORT_LIB_DIRECTORY=/usr/local/lib export STLPORT_INCLUDE_DIRECTORY=/usr/local/include/ export PYTHON_VERSION=2.3 export PYTHON_ROOT=/usr Everything seemed to build ok, apart from an "../lib/libstlport_gcc_debug.so does not exist" error in the final part of the stlport build and a continual "warning: "_POSIX_C_SOURCE" redefined" warning during the boost build. Both the stlport and boost libraries are in /usr/local/lib ok, and building thread/test passed fine too. Hello, I have been using the spirit parser library, and other boost pieces (date, test, variant, ...), along with Mozilla. I recently merged in some parts of the application that were running separately, and the program started hanging. I did a bit of searching, but couldn't find anything significantly wrong, especially since the individual parts are working correctly. BLL and member variables

Hello, I really like the BLL and would like to use it as much as possible. I have run into a small problem though. For each element in v I want to insert a value and a key into the map something like this: void operator()(const A& a) const { m_.insert(std::make_pair(a.a_, a.b_)); } I found some information on how to use member variables as targets in the BLL documentation and that is what I have tried to use in the code above. Using external property map with a mutable boost.graph

I'm using a boost.graph via: typedef boost::adjacency_list<boost::vecS,boost::vecS,boost::bidirectionalS> GraphT; In my application, I've decided to use external maps. I have discovered a problem using vertex descriptors as a key of a map. Basically, in doing a remove_vertex sequence involving vertex descriptors 5, 3, 2, I discovered that the next vertex descriptor produced by add_vertex was 4. At this point the insert into my map failed because this element already existed. Given the mutable nature of vertex descriptors, I don't see how they can be used as a key in a map. I'm contemplating two options at this point. 1. Switch from map to vector in storing my vertex property externally. 2. Switch to internal properties. My questions are: 1. Is the first option viable? As I see things, vertex descriptors are always contiguous and in the range (0..num_vertices(graph)]. Is this true? 2. Do internal "maps" avoid this type of problem?

boost::thread callback copy problem

Hi, I am new to boost::thread but have come across the following problem and wondered if anyone could help... The problem is the copy overhead used by the boost::thread / boost::function0 code. The following code actually creates multiple copies of myclass rather than using a reference to myclass and due to the size of the class, this leads to a considerable overhead. I only noticed this problem because the thread kept failing due to the fact that my constructor held some socket initialisation code, which was being called multiple times. Is there a way that I can force the thread class to use references rather than copying? Looking at the code for the function library, I see that you can use boost::ref for function classes, any ideas as to how it can be used in the thread class? Venturing a little far afield, but one technique I've heard of is to grab a block, so you can release it in low-memory situations (or just every time you throw). This ensures (in theory) that you'll have enough memory to copy your exception, create your strings, and so on. If you manage to recover, you just grab another block ("prime the pump") and soldier bravely forward. Given STL's habit of allowing people to specify an allocator, you could even go so far as to build a custom allocator that worked on some pre-allocated block of memory for your exceptions (strings, vectors, whatever you deem necessary). Either way, you'll run out of memory a little earlier (not a big issue in many environments), but you _will_ get to pocket the $200. Generative Programming book

The ISBN for the "Generative Programming" book is wrong. 0-210-30977-7 is incorrect 0-201-30977-7 is correect That book is used and described in the Boost "Feature Model Diagrams in text and HTML" page. Also, the Generative Programming web site isn't working for me, but perhaps the problem is only temporary. Note that I am not asking for help with any of that. I obviously already know what the correct ISBN is. I am posting this in case it helps others; the web page needs to be updated for the ISBN at least. The Boost "What to do about Boost bugs" page says to submit "a bug report to either boost-users list, boost mailing list, or our bug tracking facility at SourceForge" and that "either of the mailing lists is a preferred way". However it does not describe what a bug report is. If there is not a formal format, then I hope the above is adequate.

Boost Build, custom-built targets

Hello all- I'm currently using Boost Build v1 for some of my projects. I must say, it's significantly better than Makefiles. Overall, I'm quite pleased, though it took a little while to learn. I haven't been able to figure out one thing, though. How to generate custom built targets. Basically, I want to auto-generate a C++ source file so that I can keep track of version information. I have a python script that determines the version information from various sources (such as the revision control system [arch]), and I would like it to be run before my library is built. If I was using a makefile I would do something like this: .PHONY: version.cpp version.cpp: generate_version.py version ./generate_version.py This would cause version.cpp to be generated fresh each time the build process was called. However, I don't really need the ".PHONY", it would be okay if it was only created whenever one of the other files changed. I'm sure it's possible to do this with bjam, I just haven't figured out how to do customized stuff like this yet. Thanks, John =:-> PS> Is there a better mailing list for this?
