Will libraries built on WinNT run on Win98? (MinGW)

I know that Win98 is not really supported, but is there any chance that libraries (specifically thread and regex) that were build on WinNT using MinGW work on Win98 (in MinGW)? My guess is no, but has anyone tried it? thanks reed

problem compiling with threads and stlport

hi, I'm new to boost, stlport and programming on linux in general, so I apologise now for any obvious beginner errors! I'm using mandrake 10 and gcc 3.3.2, and using root I created STLport 4.6.2 libraries, and then created all the boost 1.31.0 libraries using bjam -sTOOLS=gcc-stlport -sBUILD="debug release <stlport-iostream>on" install I had to have this little lot in my bashrc file to do it; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib export STLPORT_VERSION=4.6.2 export STLPORT_ROOT=/home/ncain export STLPORT_LIB_DIRECTORY=/usr/local/lib export STLPORT_INCLUDE_DIRECTORY=/usr/local/include/ export PYTHON_VERSION=2.3 export PYTHON_ROOT=/usr Everything seemed to build ok, apart from an "../lib/libstlport_gcc_debug.so does not exist" error in the final part of the stlport build and a continual "warning: "_POSIX_C_SOURCE" redefined" warning during the boost build. Both the stlport and boost libraries are in /usr/local/lib ok, and building thread/test passed fine too. Hello mpl experts, I'm trying to initialize the elements of an array using rules defined in a list of structures. The code below illustrate what I'm trying to achieve. The problem I have with this code is that the First_Descriptor structure contain this index member that will be used to access the right item of the array. This is not nice because it force the writer of this structure to deal with implementation details. Is there a way to get rid of this index typedef in the *_Descriptor structures by using another construct from the mpl that would generate it ? // The array I need to initialize. Vertex properties in BGL

I would like to use the BGL for a project I'm working on, but I haven't been able to find a particular piece of information. The system I'm modeling can be easily represented by a directed graph, but it seems that an essential vertex property can only be calculated on the fly based on the current in-edge and out-edge as the graph is traversed. Can this be supported in the BGL in a way which can feed this vertex property to the supplied algorithms?

I don't know exactly how you are traversing those nodes in the path, - ie how do find the path -, but as far as I know you have to use a visitor with an algorithm such as dijisktra shortest paths, so you define the event point, on_finish_vertex for example where you want the visitor to be called. This algorithm also stores in a vector the minimum weight pahts encountered from an specific origin vertex so you can go over those paths from the last vertex to this origin. serialization for indexed_set?

I'm trying to write generic boost::serialization functions for boost:indexed_set and I'm in a bit over my head. The serialization docs say to use something like the following for generic types: template<class Archive, class T> inline void save( Archive & ar, const std::auto_ptr<T> &t, const unsigned int file_version ){ ar << t.get(); } This is a non-intrusive save function for std::auto_ptr. The tricky thing is that the template parameters for indexed_set are much more complicated and the default index may either be regular (set-like) or sequenced (list-like). How would this be handled?

std::map(pair) and boost::bind

I am often facing the same thing again and again. Say I have a map: map< int, Foo* > m; and I would like to invoke method of Foo on all instances std::for_each(m.begin(), m.end(), boost::bind(&Foo::method, _1 ); The problem is that map contains pair of key and value, not Foo*. Usually I create some function taking pair and invoking method needed on .second. But maybe there is another way to do that? Thanks! Vytautas

Hello! I am new to the boost lambda library so this might be a naive question. Here goes. We have done exactly that without any problem at all. We didn't have to do anything special either. We used VC7.1 on Windows 2000, just as you are. I know that's not much practiacl help, but at least you now know it can be done. Running boost::thread compiled on w2k on XP

I have tried compiled boost::thread for windows using visual c++ from the visual studio .net 2003 suite. It compiles fine and I can compile things with the created libraries. However, when I move my program and the boost::thread dll:s from windows 2000 to another machine running windows XP, the program just prints out a blank line and exits without any other message. Attached is a program I have used to test out that it is this that is wrong. What have I done wrong? Is it impossible to compile the boost libraries on windows 2000 and then expect the created dll:s to work on windows XP? If this is the case, where can I get hold of the boost::thread libraries for vc71 compiled specifically for windows XP? If not, what could be wrong? /Ragnar Ouchterlony

uBLAS syntax issues

Here's the formula I want to reproduce in uBLAS: K=P*Mt*(M*P*Mt+R)^-1 Where K, P, M, and R are matrices, and Mt is the transpose of M. I have written the following function: void multi_state_kf::compute_gain(const matrix<double>& dev) { matrix<double> temp=prod(M,newP); matrix<double> transM=trans(M); matrix<double> A=(prod(temp,transM)+dev); permutation_matrix<size_t> pm(A.size2()); lu_factorize(A, pm); matrix<double> el = prod(newP,transM); lu_substitute(A, pm, el); K=el; } This function was completely hacked together as I'm new to uBLAS (and rusty with linear algebra), but it got rid of most of my compile errors. Assign and MultiArray conflict with precompiled headers

Hi. I'm trying out the recently accepted Assign library, and also the MultiArray library, which is new to me. I'm in VC7.1, and using the post review version of Assign. Depending on the order I include the libraries in my precompiled header, the linker complains about double definition of MultiArray's extents object. Date Time lib and time_t

Has anybody ever implimented a to_time_t function/method for the ptime class to create a time_t from a ptime. I tried doing it similar to the way from_time_t does it but I'm not getting the right answer. It's nice that you can convert from a time_t for use with legacy code but sometimes you need to go back the other way. This also isn't exactly what you are looking for, but I took built your test.cpp on vc7.1 running on windows XP using boost 1.31 (also built with vc7.1 running on windows XP). Both the debug (using boost_thread-vc71-mt-gd-1_31.dll) and the release (using boost_thread-vc71-mt-1_31.dll) builds of test.cpp worked fine. My boost dlls were built with all default settings (except I used the alternate namespace hack for boost::signals since we also use Qt). [boost.build] Patch for python.jam

Hello, attached is a patch for pyhton.jam which allows to use python installation on Unix which have been configured with different prefix and exec-prefix. Currently this is not supported by boost.build. The patch simply adds the missing include directory to the compiler command line as recommended in http://www.python.org/doc/2.3.4/api/includes.html . MY QUESTIONS: * Which is the right version of boost to be running here? * does the \tools\build\v2\example\hello sample bjam compile for anyone else? (i.e. is it broken?) * is there a good sample of a simple working example for bjam somewhere else? * Any ideas on why I can BUILD BOOST but not any of the subprojects (everything else I have tried has the same problems) * How do you folks debug this thing- ****any**** techniques would be helpful * is the toolsets it is complaining about the COMPILER (i.e. TOOLS envvar?) or is it something else entirely? * HELP ! :) I am doing this pain because I am trying to get boost defined as the standard in my company (It is within my power to do that). Bjam- racking my brain

For the last several days (a few hours each day) I have been trying to get the \tools\build\v2\example\hello sample to build with bjam- (windows XP, vc7.1) I CAN build boost from the command line, but when I move into the \tools\build\v2\example\hello dir and try various combinations of bjam (with and without -sTools=vc7.1 etc..) I get the same error no matter what I do. I took the bjam sources and compiled a debug version in the Visual Studio IDE, and have spent the evening stepping through the code and reading the docs. This is one of these things I think that I just have to completely internalize how this thing works before I will crack this.
